Oh, Bobbi, Happy Birthday!!! Hope you have a marvelous dinner tomorrow.
DH and I did more gardening this morning. I now have less flowers and more dirt. I also have to thin out my irises and my poor day lilies have vanished into the jungle. I'll have to plant more bulbs as I really like them. I guess this is a long Memorial Day weekend in the US. I hope you gals don't eat as much as I did on the Canadian Victoria Day weekend. Have a good one, everyone. |
Good evening GG's,
Love the planters Rosey. You said Steve is good for a while.......good in that his cranky phase is over for the time being, or that he is good for a while and safe from a whack on the noggin with the rolling pin ;) Welcome Taxigirl, Amarantha and Cajunlady. Hello all ~ will have to catch up with everyone tomorrow. Hope you all rest well. Take care |
Rosey, glad your DH brought you flowers. He's always forgive for the crankiness when he brings flowers. He really is a good guy. I'm glad you had a nice day.
Bobbi, enjoy the dinner tomorrow. My sister, MIL and parents all said it was flooding type rains the last couple days. They all live in the Twin Cities. When I was talking to my parents (mid-week because dad had to go to the ER twice), it was snowing little flakes here. YUCK! Taxi, where in OR are you? i'm guessing the NW corner or coast since you mentioned it is always raining. I'm in the high desert in the southern part. I think if I ate 500 cals spaced 5 hours apart, I'd gain a lot of weight. Basically I eat ~1500 a day but 2000 would have me on the gaining side. I hope the hypnosis works for you. I've always thought it might be a good thing to try. Hi to everyone else. Work is still an ocean swelling drowning me. Marie |
I have heard others complain about the huge pop-up ads that appear when they log into 3FC. I have been getting them the past few days. What a pain!
Bobbi - I LOL about DH taking you out for prime rib! My mother used to say that my dad always got her a cake because he wanted cake. LOL I think I would choose fish. I love fish, expecially the way they prepare it at top rate restaurants. Isabella - My daylillies need to be dug up and split as they are huge. I wish I could send the extra plants to you and Marie. Taxi - I hope the hypnotist works for you. There is one here in the PGH area who is supposed to be really good. It's the same as most diets, you have to really want to do it, and it sounds like you are ready. Good Luck! Maryea - The way I interpret the SS issue, if your spouse dies, you will get whatever amount of his SS that will bring you up to what he was getting. If you are already getting more than he did, then yours will stay the same. You won't get both, just whichever one is higher. It just isn't clear the way they worded it. I think the best thing would be to call SS and get a rep on the phone, but did you every try calling them? LOL You need to have several days open while you wait on "hold". I think the woman who is getting hers plus 1/2 of her husbands was getting a really low check and he was getting a really high one. Cajun - That is my main goal....to be able to walk past tempting food and "Just Say No". I am doing fairly well at it, but there's room for improvement. Good for you!!! LOL about the flying cake! Time to get ready for the daily nurse visit. Be Back Later! |
Good morning goldies!!
Taxi- my mom done hypnosis when I was a young girl and I remember her losing alot of weight. Good luck. Bobbi I hope you had a wonderful b day and enjoyed you dinner out. Rosie I hope your b day was good also. Carol sue. The flying cake was real funny. Any other time I would have been upset because it was all over my floor. Today is last day of work and then I will have 3 days off. I will be packing for our camping trip. I have done really well on my food plan this week. I can feel the weight loss on my body. It's funny how you can feel it without even getting on the scale. Let's just hope that I'm able to make some good food choices this weekend. Have a happy memorial day weekend goldies. Cajun |
I only have 15 minutes to gab so I'll make it short. Carol Sue...that's an old joke between Bruce and myself. If we want something, we buy it for the other person. DH actually started it years ago when he purchased a record for me. (Yes, a vinyl record like in the olden days.) I can't remember who's album it was because it was his favorite group, not mine. But you've all read about me complaining about his selfishness before, no big surprise. I still wouldn't trade him, he has so many, many good qualities. He cleans the whole house from top to bottom every morning plus brushes out charlie. Cooks on occasions and does dishes at least once a day. He is a high energy neat freak and I love him.
Cajun...do you tent or have a camper for your camping trip. I love camping but haven't done it for years now. I just now mentioned it to Bruce and he said we could go trout fishing and tent, take Charlie. Now I'm getting excited. That would fit right into our budget. Marie...the twin cities got a lot more rain than we did. But we have more coming...hopefully. What happened with your dear dad? You mentioned 2 ER trips? I'm sorry you can't be with him but fortunately your family is still here. How did you get for far away from home? Gotta run, be back later. I listen to Dr David Jeremiah at 9:00. |
Good Morning, All...
Quick drive by... Marie - sorry you're still drowning in work! Boy, I bet you'll think twice before you take another long "vacation" for surgery, won't you?? How is BelovedKai... and Sasha, Kody, Blizzie, and David? Bobbi - enjoy your dinner out! That's always nice... and you never say bad things about your boy. You and Rosey, both, just kind of sigh and accept them! It's all good! Speaking of which, Rosey - nice flowers! Are you heading into your full light days? I'm looking forward to the long weekend, but right now I have to get ready for Friday! All is well here, no complaints! Welcome, newbies! Have a fine, fine day, lovelies! |
Carol Sue, I wish I had your day-lily problem. Mine is that bambi ate them and the bulbs just seemed to have died without any leaves year after year. Goog fo your Just Say No campaign.
Cajun, enjoy your camping trip. Great job on the weight loss. The cake story was quite humorous. Bobbi, your DH cleans the house from top to bottom every day??? Holy smokes, that's AWESOME!!!!! My dad was DX with leukemia the week after my surgery and before they can treat that, they have to clear a fungal sinus infection that the CT scan showed had been there for years and years. So they did surgery for that and the ER trips were one week post surgical for hemorraging. We will be visiting at the end of July and we moved far away as MN is not a place I ever wanted to live long-term. I love mountains and oceans. Although, that said, MN is beautiful occasionally. Donna, BelovedKai is doing well. No seizures for a couple weeks. She's a little trouble maker. Her dad took the week off of work so she's being spoiled with a house daddy. BTW, as DH made breakfast (pancakes today) for the 5th day in a row this week, he said "This is what it will be like when I retire and you go to work". I decided I liked being sent off to work with a yummy breakfast. Sasha's eye had problems earlier this week but last night looked better. I'm bringing her to the vet tomorrow. Blizzie and Kody are wonderful. My DD's kitty passed earlier this wee in a freak accident and it is very sad. I thought of SamCat. Keep him from poking his head out the door to look around. So this morning I woke up to winter. Thought I'd share the joy.... Anyone want to take a dip in my pool??? http://www.mariesdogs.com/images/May25-2.jpg http://www.mariesdogs.com/images/May25-1.jpg Marie |
Got this in an e-mail from my dad's cousin yesterday ~ thought with you all working outside these fine days ~ hopefully not a hint you will need, but just in case ~ thought I would share it.
Tick Removal........... A nurse discovered a safe, easy way to remove ticks where they automatically withdraw themselves when you follow her simple instructions. Read this one as it could save you from some major problems. Tick Removal: Spring is here and the ticks will soon be showing their heads. Here is a good way to get them off you, your children or your pets. Give it a try. Please forward to anyone with children, hunters or dogs or anyone who even steps outside in summer! A School Nurse has written the info below--good enough to share--and it really works! "I had a pediatrician tell me what she believes is the best way to remove a tick. This is great because it works in those places where it's sometimes difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc. "Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20); the tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This technique has worked every time I've used it (and that was frequently), and it's much less traumatic for the patient and easier for me. "Unless someone is allergic to soap, I can't see that this would be damaging in any way. I even had my doctor's wife call me for advice because she had one stuck to her back and she couldn't reach it with tweezers. She used this method and immediately called me back to say, "It worked!" Please pass on. Everyone needs this helpful hint. I have always been afraid I would get one, panic and in trying to remove it with tweezers, mess it up and end up with half the thing still stuck in me. So this sounded good. Nice to know, but still hope I never have to use it. |
Hello Girls.
Gayle, thanks for the tick removal information. We haven't had ticks in Newfoundland until the last couple of years. I'm really afraid I'll get one stuck in my leg or somewhere worse. I don't know if they are in our area but I'll certainly keep that little hint tucked away just in case.... Oh, Marie, I just shivered looking at those pictures. That could happen here any time in May and it's so discouraging after a great warm day to wake up to a snow covered yard. Thank goodness it doesn't stay at this time of the year. Carol Sue, I'd gladly accept Day Lilies from your yard if I could. I think I found a couple of stunted lilies this morning so I'm hoping with the sun able to get at them and a little fertilizer they may come back again. I think they were the pink lilies but not sure. All this camping talk has me longing to get out in the woods for a few days. Ha, ha, some of you would think I live in the woods if you could see where I live. People come here from larger towns or cities for the summer and we go down the bay to our cabins and those down the bay take their boats to an island...Ha, ha. I wonder if we still have our tent. Can't remember if we got rid of it. DH and I could spend an idyllic few days camping in a nearby provincial park.... The inside of my house looks like a hurricane went through. I have the front door window open and on the opposite side on the back I have the patio door open and it's like a wind tunnel in here. Papers, napkins, cards and newspapers are strewn all over the floor where the wind is blowing inside the house, lol. I guess I'll have to close one of those doors and clean up the mess. I didn't notice it until a napkin came flying past me as I was typing. Have a lovely weekend wherever you pitch your tent. |
Hello again
Bobbi. We actually have a winter camp in the woods and a summer camp on the river but this weekend we are going meet family that has a camper. Way way too hot for tent camping. We are only in may and it's 95 degrees.. Gayle thank you for the tick tip. We have them when we go to the winter camp. I'm always getting them off my husband. Marie that snow would feel so good now. It's so hot here already. I don't know what we will do in July/August. Have a good weekend ladies. Cajun |
Hi everyone! It's a fairly nice day here...it was kind of cloudy this am but the sun is now out and is supposed to be in the 70s. Still feels slightly cool though. Dh took our gs swimming this am, they came home for sandwiches for lunch and now are going fishing. I was going to go with them but felt like dh wanted it to be a guys time as he kept telling me negatives about the place...no place to put a chair, have to sit on a rock, you'll get bored etc. ;) It's ok, I recogize they need their guy time and I have plenty to do. I'm good with being alone. What a change in our gs now that he is 12! So obedient and much calmer, not so hyper. He is trying so hard to be helpful and fit in with our lifestyle which is way different than what he is used to. He didn't ask for me to read to him last night which I expected (afterall he's 12) but I kinda missed that special time together. Now he's all into watching movies on his little computer thingy and listening to music, but I realize they change and just feel blessed he still wants to visit grandma and Lolo.
Cajun/Isabelle/glynne - I've never been a roughn' it kind of camper. We've always had a RV of some kind or stayed in a cabin. Actually the cabin was the roughest in some ways as it wasn't very clean! It rains so much here that camping outside is not so pleasant except for a few weeks when we actually get summer maybe. Good to know the tip for ticks though, just in case. I remember our son coming home with a tick in his head after a camp-out with the boys in our church. Dh pulled it out with his very strong fingernails! Didn't seem to hurt our son and he managed to get it out. Cajun, good luck with the hypnosis. I've thought about doing that and have tried it here at home (with tapes), but I never stick to it long enough. It does put me to sleep sometimes though which is very restful. I think it's probably ok as long as it is a qualified person doing it for health reasons and not just entertainment. That sounds like a lot of calories, but maybe it's right for you right now. Let us know how it goes. Marie - Loved the pictures...looks so cold! I know you get a lot of snow in the winter but thought by now it was past. We go to our condo near Bend now and then and we have slid down the mountain coming home a few times. I still remember the first time we were in Bend when we went to our timeshare presentation and ended up buying. There was a lot of snow..up to our knees in places. We stayed at a hotel in Bend (got couple free nights) and they paid for a meal in a restaurant too. We had a great time and have never regretted buying into our condos. Your dh is like my dh with the pancake breakfasts.....our gc always look forward to his pancakes. Slmn11 - Oh, I didn't understand it that way but I hope that's right as in my case it would be better as dh does get more than me. Yeah, I can imagine about calling them as whenever I ask dh to call and ask a question about something to do with any of govt benefits he hates it as he's on hold forever. The way the govt moves I wonder how long it would take to get the increased pay after your spouse died. I've been doing pretty well with my housework schedule this week. Today so far I've done a little extra cleanig in our bedroom and the kitchen besides the daily stuff. I have a laundry load I need to go reboot. Should get a lot done while the guys are away. You all have a good day/evening! |
Evening all...Just checking in to keep Donna calm. Nothing absolutely nothing new down here in sunny hot Florida. 95 on the lania a little while ago.
Met friends for dinner at local seafood place. Decided that I'd try the portabella mushroom sandwich. Visions of big mushroom cooked like a burger....wrong...it was 2 baby portbellas sliced sautee with red/green peppers onions, dab of cheese on homemade cracked wheat bread. Disappointed but boy is that a start to creating a great recipe. Report will follow. Welcome newbies....hugs to you all. k3 ps confession.....I got another dvd set. So weekend will be with William and Mary...he's an undertaker and she's a midwife. |
Hi Everyone,
Bobbi & Rosey - so sorry I missed your birthday. http://caccioppoli.com/Animated%20gi...0cake/0067.gif Hope you enjoyed your day! Lynn |
Just found this site for free ebooks. I already have almost 900 books on my Kindle and I only read with it at certains times so it's going to take me a while to get through them! But I'm sure I'll keep adding more cause I love books.

Good evening GG’s,
Had a nice day off ~ back to work tomorrow. It was a busy, productive, fun day. Laundry, visit with a friend (instant message), my sister and my mom by phone. Dentist appointment and a little visit with Maddie. Back home made fruit salad for work and fruit mixture for evenings at home. Jason and Corbin stopped in for a few minutes. Needed Corbin’s help for a little surprise I was making for DD Sara. Then cooked ~ we were gonna have it Sunday (sloppy joes, coleslaw, corn on the cob and brownies) but they went to the coast and it was too late to do it when they got back, so we did it today. NSV ~ I did not lick one spoon, spatula, bowl or dribble of brownie batter. And I did not eat even one brownie (knew that would be my undoing) but took along my own dessert ~ the fruit/cool whip mixture. My chair dancing DVD’s came today, but I was so busy that I didn’t get to check them out. I have made it for 5 days now of no junk. Now back down to what my ticker says. I seem to be feeling better ~ maybe a combination of feeling better physically and emotionally ~ what ever ~ I’ll take it. Hope you all have had a good day and have a nice Memorial Day weekend. Almost bed time, so I will have to do the personals another time. Take care |
Hi Goldens!
Camping trip cancelled due to weather. It is very cold here and we are expecting snow tomorrow. I expect to cover the plants tomorrow as it will freeze. Bummer. Of course, it will clear up as soon as the weekend is over. :( My ds has gout again really, really bad. I turns out that some of our food is bad for him - mushrooms - that we didn't know. Also seafood. :( It's gonna be a chicken and fish household all the time for a while. He has had several flairs and they are going to try him on an experimental drug. We have been irritated with each other the last couple days..... Actually, NO, he has been needing a wack between the peepers with Rosey's rolling pin! Karen, nice to see you. I love portabellas. I will miss them this summer. :( Not much to share.... Sorry, no personals tonight. Rie |
Dropping in to say "hello" to all, will have to do some reading to get to know you a little. Posted my Bio for you!
|
I am so angry. I planted 4 collard plants and something ate the leaves off one of them. Now I remember why we don't plant more than tomatoes. This has happened in the past. I think a mothball or two might scare them away. I just might have to continue to buy my produce instead of growing it. I hope they enjoyed the collards as much as I was expecting to! We think it was a groundhog because Bambi doesn't usually come down this close to the house. We have a baby groundhog who is fearless.
Welcome Lily!- Jump right in with us! I will go back and read your bio to get to know you a little bit. Gayle - That tick removal tip sounds great, but I hope I never have to use it. I am so afraid of ticks. Because of my allergies, I am not outside much so I hope I never have to deal with one. Marie - I'm so glad I never moved to Oregon! LOL I would not be wanting to have snow or even cold weather in May. We are pretty much guaranteed not to have snow May - Sept. But come warmer weather, I'd love a dip in your pool! Marie/Isabella - I have 2 daylilies on one side of the yard and 3 on the other. We must have perfect conditions here because they are each about 3-4 ft across. In the past we have dug them up and split them, but right now I don't have anyone to give them to or anywhere else to plant them. I don't think they will bloom in shade. I have given some to people, but in the fall when they go down to nothing and disappear into the ground, they tell me they died and they usually plant something else over top of them. Even if I explain to them that they will peek back out of the ground in the spring. I guess they don't believe me. LOL Karen3 - A few years back a local restaurant had a portabella sandwich on the menu and it was just a big mushroom like a hamburger. It turns out that I was the first person to every order one and there were several of them standing around just watching me eat it because they wanted to know what I thought of it! That was just rude and annoying! LOL It wasn't something I would order again and it's now off the menu. I think the audience turned me against it. Gayle - Good for you on not eating the brownie batter and taking your own healthy dessert! I am so proud of you! Rie - I did not know that mushrooms affected gout. I love mushrooms, but then, I don't have gout. My BIL has it pretty bad and he loves everything that's bad for it. Hope ds gets relief from the new meds. |
Morning....It is already getting hot out! Must continue the armadillo tale. Couple weeks ago something growled at Dash in the hedge at 12M. It knocked over the birdseed can. DH put out the rest of the gummy bears and the next morning the bears were eaten and the can knocked over and it pooped on the tile. He swore it was the armadillo. 3rd night repeat of feed getting dumped. I took over! Googled raccon and armadillo scat and it was Rocky Raccon! So got out the box trap, bought more gummy bears and set up trap.....took 2 nights but he was caught this morning. Rocky was given a long ride out of town. We've been laughing all morning about using gummy bears for bait.
Dh's grandfather was not only a fruit farmer but also a fur dealer. Mostly muskrats and coon...oh deer hides and occasional fox. But his biggest money maker was coon carcass (had to have one foot still on so you knew it wasn't possum) and people came out from the city(NYC) to buy. I'll bet nothing he never bought was baited with gummy bears. Wonder if we had cooked him would he have been fruit flavored sweet? blahhhhh! The noise you hear in the South today is just us.....GIGGLING! k3:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: |
Isabella, I had to giggle at the idea of going camping when you live in the rural camp haven as it is. We built our house where most would put a tent.
Cajun, I would love 95 degrees right now. We were into summer, turned that corner into hot, then it turned back. That is unusual for us. Usually once it gets hot, it stays hot. The Pacific doesn’t have big mood swings in dictating our weather. For the next three weeks it’s supposed to be cold. At least there’s no snow predicted for the next few days. Opposite of your AC, I built a fire in my wood stove this morning. Mary, sounds like your DH and DGS had a great time yesterday. And your alone time is always nice. I love Bend as well. Their round-about streets are sort of freaky but ok once you get used to them. KarenFL, enjoy your movies on the lania. Good job at baiting Ricky. Gummy Bears… I’d loved to have watched him try to chew it. Gayle, Way to Go! On no spatula tastes. Unless I chew minty gum while baking, the beater always goes in my mouth. You are doing great! Rie, I think our snow moved NE toward Montana. I’m sorry your trip was cancelled. And I’m sorry about your DS’s health. Try not to borrow the rolling pin on him. Lily, welcome to the group!!! Carol Sue, I, too, got sick of feeding the outdoor critters. It’s much cheaper to buy the produce at the store or farmer’s market. BTW, my pool is still pretty warm. We have a complete solar heating system (cover and panels) and it stays pretty warm. But getting in and out of the pool in the cold is too much for me. No big plans for me today. Sasha has a vet appt in a couple hours. I suppose I should get dressed. Then pick up my prescriptions. After that, I think I’ll quit and at some point go on a little hike with the pups. Tomorrow, though, DH and I are going to go to Redding, CA and go biking. DH found some awesome trails that wind along the Sacramento River (and it’s offsprings). And the starting point is a dam that is second in size only to the Hoover Dam. I will be bringing the camera. We’re going to have a blast. Marie |
Good Morning! It has been a busy week here (I guess) it went by fast anyway! Yesterday we had the first get together with the music club that my sister is starting up. There were 6 of us there which was pretty good. Had a lot of fun. We started at 3:00 and before we knew it, it was 5:45! So much fun but we all found out we need to practice lots!
Karen, Love the Gummi bears story! My aunt has a HUGE groundhog living under her storage shed and they have tried just about everything to get rid of him. He lays on the porch of the storage shed and doesn't seem to be afraid of anything. Maybe she can get a trap and load it with gummi bears!! I'll let you know what happens! Welcome Lilywinsit! Glad to have you join us. We look forward to getting to know you. Rie, sorry that your camping trip was cancelled. I know how much you were looking forward to that. Have you had any bites on your trailer? I hope that you are able to get just what you want. I'm sorry that your DS is having problems with that gout...I'm sure that not only makes him miserable but others around him. Hope he feels better soon. CarolSue, I lived in PA for about a year WAY BACK but moved back to Colorado from there. Still like living here in MO. best. We still have family back in Selinsgrove that we visit, along with Mass. and NH. There is some pretty country there. Gayle, Congrats on your NSV!! I still have to have my licks whenever I make anything like that. Let us know how you like your chair dancing DVD's. I'll bet they are fun. We went looking at pools and hot tubs this past week. Not sure if we will get a pool or a hot tub. I think it would be nice to have a hot tub that you can use all year but I think I really want a pool too. Maybe settle for a smaller pool and a hot tub! Guess we will see. Still need to get a storage building in and then a privacy fence around the back yard before we get the pool for sure, the patio has a lattice type fence around it so a hot tub would fit nicely in there! Well, need to stop this dreaming for now and get back to cleaing this house and whatever this day might bring. Have a good day everyone. |
Marie, you were posting at the same time as me! Gosh I did mean to mention it looked like winter time at your house again.
I hope Shasha appt. is a routine one. Give pats to all from Ginger and Sissy. Enjoy your bike ride and look forward to seeing the pics. |
K3...between the gators, armadillos, coons and dash, you have plenty of excitement don't ya. DH saw a red fox in our back yard last night, unusual because the coyotes have eaten most of them. So sad, I love the foxes. Marie... As to taking a swim and dashing to the house, it's good for you. Really! Dr. Oz had a segment on taking cold showers and the benefits of it. When we were small and went up to Northern Minnesota on vacation, we took very hot saunas, then ran naked into the icy lake. It was awesome! I'll bet you did than when you lived here. KarenMo...I thought of your fur kids just before turning off my cp. It turned pitch black about an hour ago, had to unplug the cp and wall cords because of lightning and thundering. Charlie doesn't seem to mind the bad weather but then he's used to having a gun go off over his head. Carol Sue...bummer on the collard greens. I've never had them, but probably would like them. be back in a minute. |
continued...had to run outside for a minute to take a picture of my roses after the storm went thru.
Rie...I was wondering the same thing KarenMo asked, any bites on your camper? Or did you figure out a way to hook it up to your vehicle? We have a friend who gets Gout and he calls it a rich man's disease. I couldn't believe how painful he said it was in his foot. Don't know if eating rich foods are bad but mushroom? Lynn...thanks for the B'Day wishes. DH took me out to a new supper club on the golf course. We both ordered Prime Rib...never again. I got the 10 oz. size and it was 6 ounces of fat and maybe 4 oz of meat. What a rip off for $16.00. I ordered it med. rare and she brings me a med. well. Of course I rejected it, but DH said he'd eat it and gave me his med. rare. We never did get our salads, didn't realize it until we got home. The vegies were awesome, fresh yellow carrots, green beans. I ordered the sweet potato fries. They came with a container of whipped marshmallow cream topped with nutmeg. Tastes like dessert, and yes I ate the whole thing. Tiffany gave her dad a gift certificate for $50.00 last Christmas and we just got around to using it at the new supper club. Monday I'll have to get back on the diet wagon.......again. Mary...thanks for the 'project Gutenbery' site. Tiffany gave me her kindle to use and so far I'm on my first book. She forgot to give me the instruction booklet so I'm not very good at finding my way around. I saw a few simple instructions installed right on the kindle fire. I have a couple of questions, can they crash like a computer? You have 900 books on it? Does that slow it down, how many can you put on it. Can you delete the books after you've read them. I see I can download and print out a booklet, but since I'm trying to spend less money and printer ink is expensive...I won't. Cajun...speaking of food, when I see Louisiana territory on the food channel, I can almost smell the wonderful foods you make. I'm not talking about the entree items but the sweet fried goodies. Lily...welcome. I'll check out your bio after submitting this post.:welcome: Isabella...I have plenty of day lilies growing, I dug many out last year as they were taking over the garden. My neighbor took them. Wish I could have sent you some. glynne...I'm so proud of you, not even one little, bitty lick? Reading about your fruit salad reminded me of getting a macaroni salad made for tonight. Yikes, it should be marinating by now. Guess I'll plan something else for supper. I love fruit salad but DH isn't big on it, he like mac salad or potato salad better. Too fattening to make too often. Quote:

Good Saturday everyone! I'm alone today again. We were going to Sat Market this am and then fishing this afternoon but the weather was not nice enough for me so we spent the morning here at home and then the boys went fishing. They were anxious to try some new bait today as they didn't catch anything yesterday and I couldn't see sitting for two or more hours (probably more) on a rock or in the car by myself. I think it will get warmer before long but I still didn't care for it plus I have other things to do like planning meals and grocery shopping. We had a nice time last night watching a couple shows and gs fell asleep othe floor. Tonight we are going to a buffet restaurant so he can have his choice of a lot of food. He's a good eater...never complains. Each of my gc are different about food...some are very picky others not. Most eat very healthy, but a couple (maybe three as haven't seen my youngest gs but his dad eats terrible) eat way too much junk. Their father is the only one of my four kids that doesn't eat healthy.
Bobbi - I love your roses! You have beautiful land I notice in all the pictures. I'm thinking about making a trellis with roses just off our patio which we would walk through going out to our backyard. The Kindle can hold 1500 books as I remember and no, I do not notice any slowing down using it. Crashing I don't know but I haven't had any problem and I've had mine about a year I guess. And yes, I have deleted the books after I read them, so far nothing I've wanted to keep but it's your option unless you are borrowing them. I love my Kindle because there are so many free books for it...not sure there are as many free ones for the Nook or iPad. I ate well calorie-wise yesterday but my weight was up a little today...I think I got too much sodium...the potato soup and I also had one serv of popcorn. Have to be careful about having more than one salty thing a day. Karen31 - Must be fun fixing up your back yard now! I look forward to seeing the pictures! :D What I want to do in our back yard...plant more flowers, lay some stepping stones with names of children and grandchildren on them going from patio to garden probably, a rose trellis as I mention above and a new shed. Karen3 - Glad gummy bears are working for you! :D I'd probably end up eating them and forget about using them for bait. I love anything sweet and cinnomy. Rie - I didn't know about mushrooms and gout either, but in the past they always used to say rich foods caused it. That's why they used to refer to it as the "King's Disease." Dh used to have bad attacks but hasn't had one in many years. Stress often brings on attacks and often he would get them before or during a trip, got one when his dad died and he flew back to Manila etc. In nursing you frequently see a gout attack after surgical trauma. Also Filipinos tend to be predisposed to gout for some reason. We couldn't tell about foods and doctor never advised a change in diet as I remember but he's been on Allopurinol for years and I can't even remember his last attack, it's been so long. I hope your ds is better soon as I know a gout attack is very painful. That's all for now...Hi to all I missed! You all have a good weekend! |
Here I am again - sorry I have been missing but my eyes have stopped me from looking at the computer - everything is all blurry.
During this time I have lost any motivation I had and the weight has gone on again. I have decided to give the South Beach diet a go. What does anybody know about this way of dieting? as I have never tried this before. Thanks. Jenye. http://www.3fatchicks.net/img/bar-bl...r01/lb////.png |
Good Morning Lovely Ladies,
Nothing much going on this weekend. It's been wet and cool here. I wanted to get outside and walk yesterday but every time I put my walking shoes on it started raining again. Not that hard, I could have taken a umbrella, but just easier to stay inside. I was kind of tired anyway, after working Friday. It could have been a good day, but we just had so much Drama at work! I can deal with the work, Please leave the drama out of it! You would think that grown, older women would act a little more mature. I guess maturity does not always come with age. Finally found a washer. Glad that's taken care of. I hate spending money on necessities. HA! Don't know what happened last night, I really over ate! Don't usually do that. I guess it wasn't too bad. It was late and I doing that look in the cabinet, look in the pantry, there's got to be something in here I want. Looked in the fridge and took another BBQ's chicken beast. Mary, I know you're enjoying your time with your DGS. I guess LoLo wanted a little more bonding time. And I still read to My DGS and he's 12 too. Last time he spent the night we were both reading Hunger Games and I read that to him. They are never too old to want special attention. Marie, I just stopped complaining about the weather when I saw your pictuers. Burrrr. Have fun on your bike ride. Girl, you must have some toned legs! Gayle, I am so proud of you! You are doing so well. I made brownies last week too, didn't have even one. and they had extra walnuts, just like I like them. Hard to resist, you deserve extra credit for that. Liliwinsit, Welcome. Look forward to getting to know you. Rie, Sorry the camping trip got cancled. I know you were looking forward to it. Di you win a lot of money at the poker game? Sorry DS has had a flair up of Gout. I know it is really painful. Was he taking the usualy drugs and they aren't working? What new one did they put him on? Haven't seen any new ones come through the hospital lately. I'm not sure what foods you aren't supposed to have, I really haven't looked it up inawhile, but i'm sure you have. Hope he, and you, get some relief soon. Carol Sue, Really frustrating to plant something and have all that hard work go for nothing. I guess someone else really like collards too. Karen, Congrats for getting rid of your little friend. Hope he is gone for good. Now, if the company was as easily gotten rid of! Karen31, Pool or hot tub? big decision. I think I'd go for both. Maybe one now and one later? Bobbi, The sweet potato fries with marshmellow cream? I'm still trying to figure out if that sounds good or not. Sorry you didn't enjoy your Bday dinner more. I hate going out and not enjoying the meal. DH hates going and and we don't go often, so when we do I want to really enjoy it. Love the roses on the trellis. I hate to find a new climbing rose. My old one died. Actually DH (and this time I don't mean darling or dear) killed it. It was a Don Juan and had lovely blooms. Donna, Hope everything is OK at your house and you aren't working too hard. Isabella, How are you? I miss you Z. I know you're getting used to being retired but come around and visit occasionally, Jenye, What kind of problem are you having with your eyes? Sorry. I can't help you with the South Beach diet, I just count calories. But i'm pretty sure there is a SB thread on here somewhere. Good luck. Freda |
Good morrow, all! Jenye, the South Beach diet is great, IMA. It is similiar to the old Sugar Busters diet that I stayed on with my own modifications for years and felt wonderful. Sorry, I can't find thy specific postie to know what you were asking about, just had to put my oar in.
To all, apologies for lack o' personals in this postie but am still gettin' to know folkettes in these two groups (this and the 2012 challenge). I have a lifelong habit of brunch on Sundays as that is what my family did and so I always do my Sunday weigh-ins just before I start the brunch or if I go out to eat, before I leave. So hanging around, had a lovely walk already. It is SO unseasonably cool here in central AZ and loving it. Do love the heat but it is nice here right now. The cool weather is perkin' moi up. Anyway, woot! |
Good Sunday, All...
I'm enjoying this nice weekend! The weather cooperated yesterday, and we might get some moisture today and tomorrow. Suits me fine. The green is very green; the flowers and trees are lush, and I'm enjoying this interlude before the hated heat arrives. Freda - I always enjoy your posts. You're just so very calm... Jenye - welcome! I used the South Beach plan several years ago and did lose quite a bit; however, be prepared for the potential to regain very quickly. (I guess I should qualify that with: IMO!) It's such a low carb plan that when you go back to carbs, if you do, you'll balloon. It has to become a lifestyle of low carb, to maintain the weight loss. The weight loss/weight maintenance is never ending, isn't it? Bobbi - did your roses perk up? I love the archway trellis... very pretty! Just thought I'd better check in... watched a couple of movies yesterday ("Descendants"... very good! and something else I had saved on the DVR). I suppose I should do something constructive with this long weekend, yes? Hope all is well with all of you! Later, lovelies! |
Hello Goldens!
Sorry that I didn't make it here yesterday. The day just got away from me. I enjoyed the poker tourney even though I didn't win. Good times, good food, wine. All good. We didn't get around to smores though, so ds and I will do them tomorrow night. I simply cannot have a holiday weekend without my smores! The weather is showing signs of clearing here - of course it will be time to go back to work soon. We are doing a family barbeque and card party at my aunts tonight. I haven't gotten any bites on my camper yet because I haven't really done anything. I have done a lot of research and I know what it will cost to get set up to pull it. Today, I am going to make a flyer and put it up on craigs list and a couple of thrifty nickel papers around here. A friend is going to move it for me tomorrow so that it is out by the road where it can be seen. Ds's gout is almost subsided and he is starting on the meds tomorrow. He is taking alopurinol and another med to help him tolerate it. At 30, he has moderately high bp and apparently they have to treat that so he can take the alop... Always something. He inherited this from my dad and his father. Apparently, lots of the foods on a low carb lifestyle are bad for gout. Who knew? Marie, I am looking forward to your pictures and tales of your adventures. pats and cookies to the pack from me. Donna, I loved the Descendents. Great movie and one can never go wrong spending a couple hours watching George. Karenfl, oh, you crack me up with your animal adventures! Gummy Bears :D I think you should call Billy the Exterminator over in Louisiana and let him know. Bobbi, that archway is just beautiful! I love my kindle fire. Some books I delete and some I keep. If you just hold your finger on a book cover, a little menu pops up that allows you to delete it or move it off the carosel. Apparently, they don't slow down as the memory fills like a computer. Freda, eating an extra barbeque chicken breast is not much of an over eating episode. Sometimes we are just hungry! I agree with you - I have always been the reading granny and auntie. Hi Jenye, I don't know much about south beach but it is a popular plan. Karen, I think a pool and hot tub is a great idea. Best of both worlds. Maybe both? Amarantha, enjoy brunch! Good thoughts on the weigh in. Gayle, your brownie victory is so cool! Way to go. Carol, sorry about losing your plants to creatures! Darn things. I have started really considering the cost of produce verses the cost of farmers markets. That's why I am still growing cukes and tomatoes and not much else Isabella, I hope you are having a good weekend. I am sure that you are busy today with church functions. Mary, I laughed when I read about you not going fishing in the cold weather and the boys desire to try out their new bait. Sure wish I was fishing this weekend. I think I got everyone.... Sorry if I missed you. Off to get some things done. Rie |
Bobbi - Love the roses and trellis.
I remember when you were telling someone that you lost all your weight with diet....never exercise. But all the work you do around the house and in your garden, plus all the work you did with your daughters kitchen is physical labor, so yes, you do exercise...just not formal exercise. I never ate greens at all, but I tried swiss chard a few weeks ago and I loved it. I noticed collard greens were cheaper in the store, so now I bought some to try to see if I like them as much as I like the swiss chard. The critter only ate 1 of 4 plants. Actually, the plant is still there...he just ate the leaves off. I don't know if it will get more leave or not. DH put a box trap nearby but 2 night and he hasn't caughy anything, and no more nibbling. The critters don't usually come this close to the house, but we have had a baby groundhog around lately that hasn't yet learned his place is up on the hill. LOL One year we had trouble with racoons who were coming right down to the back porch. I think one was rabid...it came all the way up onto the deck in broad daylight! I thought it was an awfully big cat. DH trapped them and took them far, far away. I don't mind them living on the hill. We actually feed them scraps of produce etc, and rarely see them down here in the yard. Rie - My BIL has gout and the things that bother him are fatty meats such as pork, and beer. He won't stay away from either. I think the meat is the reason why the low carb diet is bad for gout. I have a question for you Kindle or Nook readers. Does anyone have one that doesn't get glare in the sun? My Pandigital is impossible to read in sunlight. If it ever breaks I am going to look for something that doesn't get the glare. I know someone makes them and it would be worth paying the extra money to get one. I have never bought an e-book. Most of mine are from the library and are deleted when I finish them. I did get a few free books from Barnes and Noble when I first got the e-reader and the only one I didn't delete after reading was one about low carb dieting. I refer to it once in a while. I have saved the site Maryea posted and will go back and take a look at it later. I don't know if they can be downloaded to a Pandigital tablet. We haven't had any rain since I planted and transplanted all those plants. It's a pain going out and watering all of them. It would be nice if God would do it once in a while. I guess he's busy with more important things! |
Rie - not only are you a GOOD person, but you're also helpful! I've had Kindle for PC for years and have never been able to figure out how to get rid of a book... I've googled the question in endlessly-varied constructions, all to no avail.... that is, until your comment in passing to right click on a title. Eureka! My offensive book is GONE. I worried that someone would find it after I die and would think ill of me (LOL).
For those of you who haven't seen this elsewhere, enjoy!! It's wonderful!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_v7QrIW0zY Gracias, amiga! |
Busy Week
Hello everyone, boy has it been a busy week around here. Our new kitchen countertops arrived and were installed, and holes for sink and stovetop were cut... the counter tops look great. The new sink hole was cut for the new sink before hubby realized that the drains were not in the same place as the old ones. So we made 2 trips back and forth to Home Depot to try and get a sink with the right hook ups, finally got one. He was not impressed We had to wait another 2 days for the gas fitter man to come and put in the gas line and connect the new gas stovetop. WOW is it nice to have instant on and instant off when you cook!
We have spent the last ten days cooking out on the patio on a 2 burner electric oven (antique type convection oven). I'm still slowly adding food back into my eating plan and my body is not reacting adversely to anything yet, so I am feeling confident that in three weeks I can move on to other foods. My blood sugars are staying very good and (no insulin for almost 3 months now) I'm still taking metformin. We went out to hear a Charlie Pride Concert, it was an early Fathers Day surprise for DH from me! He wanted to go have Chinese Buffet on the way to the show, and I made wise food choices. Lots and lots of veggies, chicken leg, only 2 forks of chowmein, 2 spring rolls, 3 - 4 Tbsp sweet&sour sauce, soya sauce, and a bowl of wonton soup, water and Jasmine tea. Felt pretty proud of myself. The nicest part of the whole evening was having my hubby tell me I looked pretty before we left the house... sniff, sniff, and then he took my hand as we drove and said those magic words again Hope everyone had a happy and safe weekend! |

Happy Memorial Day to all in the U.S. and Good Day to others in other place.
Apologies again for lack of personals as aching to get out in the glorious, unseasonably cool morning for a walk. Just wanted to say that when I had a stand-alone Kindle it did have an option in there to remove book from device and that worked well. It continued to store the book as my property on Amazon. I have since fallen out of love with Amazon and just use iBooks. |
I want a new avatar that represents exercise. Can someone point me in the right direction?
|
Carol Sue,
I typed exercise into the search bar and clicked on images, and it came up with a whole bunch of choices. It will be fun to see what you come up with :) One more day of work. Right now, I would rather just sit here. Oh well. It is sunny out :D Be back tonight ~ hope you all have a nice day. |
I'm burning sunlight, have 24 Petunias to put in. Home Depot had a good price on them yesterday. I wanted to make a couple of comments about the Kindle Fire. Thanks for telling me how to delete a book after I finish reading it Rie.
Lily...good job on the food choices. Amarantha...tell me about the ibooks? I'm new about kindle and no instruction book. Carol Sue...never thought of all my garden work as exercise, I guess it is. Good luck on the new avatar. They don't have much selection on 3 FF's. Glynne...good old search bars, where would we be without it. I'm amazed my two older sisters don't have computers, I couldn't get along without it. Yesterday I googled homemade cake mixes. I used my last cake mix and need to have one on hand for last minute church/funeral request. (Hi church lady Isabella) In my newtight wad mode, I won't be buying any more mixes. I found a recipe that equals 3 cake mixes. Today after planting my flowers I'll put the mixes together. I also googled homemade pudding mixes. I don't think my mixes will have as low calories as the box mixes but close. I told my DH last night that I was getting pretty frugal, he laughed and agreed. Freda...the sweet potato fries tasted like sweet potato hot dish baked with marshmallow on top. I've never cared for them that sweet if eating with Thanksgiving dinner but these were awesome eating like dessert. Mary...thanks, our yard is beautiful. We don't have much, only 1.25 acre but it's all in lawn, trees, flowers, garden. We both enjoy keeping it up, my DH's energy gets zapped the most because he does the lawn mowing. We have a rider but he still insist on mowing the immediate back yard with a hand mower. We have a free standing deck by our shade garden, didn't want it attached to the house. The area between the deck and house is what he hand mows and lots to mow around. Jenye...good luck on the S.Beach diet. I tried it once but always go back to calories counting, works for me. Rosey...I'll check out your photos as soon as I sign off here. Donna...okay, fess up. What do you have on your kindle? Quote:
I've gabbed much longer than I had time for...later gators. |
