Glynne - just got notice of your posting and I wanted to say you are not alone..I have found my dh's stash before too. And I have also taken some a couple times. I did tell him, but I can understand your embarrassment too. These men just don't realize how much we see when we putter around the house. Maybe mine should keep it in the attic or even better his old shed in the backyard...even I wouldn't want to eat anything he kept in there! :D My dh keeps a can of peanuts on the floor beside his recliner and he thinks it's hidden! LOL Of course by now he knows I know. Funny the games we play isn't it?
ETA: To Everyone: I just discovered this website and have enjoyed readiing it Bookmarked it to read more later. My grandmother (on mom's side) was born in 1872 and died in 1976, so I focused on that time period. Interesting to see the changes in her lifetime! |
Yes, Mary, he is the same one who drove us crazy.I would really liike to think that those days are gone and he has grown up and becoming more responsible but I think I really need to reserve that opinion for some time down the road. He really seems happy but I have thought this before. So I will pray for the best for the both of them.

Hi Goldens!
I am feeling a little better but I am still fighting this darn cold bug. I have to do a training tomorrow that will involve me talking a lot for almost 3 hours and I am NOT looking forward to it. Oh well. It can't be changed. I have been thinking about the issue of snacks around the house. As you know, my ds and dgs live with me. Obviously, a 5yo boy needs his treats. My ds is pretty good about it and doesn't bring my favorites into the house. (like reeses peanut butter cups). Too bad that it is little man's favorite so he gets them sometimes. Ds buys treats that aren't my favorite and it works ok. He always has ice cream in the fridge, etc. I also can't leave fritos alone. (Hello Freda ;) ) I am not sure what the right answer is. I always have my treats around like super dark chocolate and skinny cow ice cream bars. I just can only have a serving if I need it. There must be a solution for all of this???? :?: Karen, I think your approach with your son is just right. Hope is good, but they have to find their own way. Hi Cajunlady! Welcome! Tell us more about you. Isabella, what great memories I got from the pin curls. Thank you! Sorry about everyone that I am missing. Time to hit the hay. Later. Rie |
Hello
The last time I was on here was Sept. of 2010. Since then I have lost 63lbs. and gained back 48. I'm now trying to take it back off and get to my goal of 160 lbs. I'm having problems with my knees and need to get the weight off of the poor things before they just plain quit working!! I need all the support I can get and gladly will give support back. It's so much easier with people to share.
Taxigirl |
Freda, that you’ll pray for rain while on vacation so you can listen to the rain on a tin roof. I love listening to the rain on a regular roof but I’d hate it on a tin roof. And my DH also would rather learn a whole new trade than pay anybody to fix anything. If he doesn’t know how to fix something, he will learn it.
Gayle, I’ve always thought the same thing about drinkers and the WHY? Until I really understood that an addiction is an addiction not matter how it makes us feel. I always feel better without the junk food but I succumb more than I’d like. The nose cutting off face was my mom’s favorite saying as well. Carol Sue, I wish I could help you thin your perennial garden. I love taking the neighbors’ cast offs. Then bambi eats them from my yard but not theirs. And they don’t use any repellent so I don’t get it. I think Bambi like visiting my huskies. Cindy Gail, I know everyone is saying to not bring the treats into the house. I’m the exact opposite. If they aren’t in the house, I will graze through the cupboards (including croutons DeeLee) and eat until something satisfies what I really want. And it never does. So I keep the goodies in my house and taught myself restraint. Other than right after my surgery when my brain thought I was the Cookie Monster, I have been successful with that strategy. Just thought I’d throw out the idea that not keeping it in the house doesn’t work for everyone. Isabella, those pin curls look like way too much work. I’m the high pony tail if I’m working outside and it’s hot. Welcome Cajun, LOOK at your weight loss progress. You’re doing fantastic!!! :carrot: KarenMO, you’ve grown your hair longer. I love the pics! Welcome Taxi, let’s cheer the positive – you’re 15 pounds in the good so you’re on your way back down. You will get there. And you're right - it's easier with a group of chicks that have been down the same path. I’m caught up even though I didn’t say hi to everyone personally – so HI!!! Work is crazy ridiculous and has no chance of slowing down. I will have to seriously consider working some on weekends or I might not make all my state deadlines and building the new website. Dilemmas. I’d rather play so for now, I’m going to be focused at work and that means less playing here. I didn’t think I’d be here tonight since I sat down for the results show of DWTS and they’re playing last night’s episode first. So I turned it off and had an hour free. Marie |
Thanks for the welcome, trying to figure out how to get the weight tracker on to my post??
|
Hello golden friends. I asked to join in your group and you welcomed me. Thanks. A little bit about myself: married 28 years to my high school sweetheart with 2 sons 25 and 20 years old. I gained my weight after I was married. I've done just about every diet that I knew. Stayed on for awhile lost a few lbs only to get tired of it and gain all I lost plus more. Then last year I asked doctor for help to lose this weight. I was 281 on a 5' 2" frame. I lost about 42 lbs. The minute I had lost this I started to gain back about 20 lbs. Then I discovered the dukan diet. It's a high protein low carb low sugar and low fat diet. I am a meat eater so decided to try it. I love this diet so far. I bought a mini trampoline and I've worked up to 15 minutes jogging on this. Then I do floor exercise. I always try to do 5 days a week and take weekend off. I've lost 33.5 on dukan and 22 from last year for a total of 55. That's a lot for me. So with your support I would hope I can continue on my weight loss journey. I have never wanted something so bad as I do now. That's a little about myself.
|
:welcome:Welcome Cajun and taxi girl, nice to see new faces. I haven't heard of dukan but it'd work for me since I'm a meat lover too. I have some outside things to do, tie up my climbing roses for one. The branches are sticking out every which way. I have 3 or 4 early roses blooming already.
We had a very bad turnout last Saturday for the whole town rummage sale. If I wasn't so hard up, I'd donate all the left over treasure to Salvation Army. We'll have another rummage sale this fall, if it doesn't sell the 3rd time around I'll give up and donate it. Off I go...later gators. |
Thank you bobbolink.. Wish I could go outside and play. I'm stuck inside working. My husband are going out of town this weekend to see some family. They own land in the woods and have a pond to fish in. I'm so looking forward to the weekend. But they will be cooking all kinds of things and I know I will go off plan. I hope it's not too bad. Lately there is so much going on the weekends they are sabotaging me. I still manage to have losses but at a smaller amount. Frustrating. I have to learn to deal with it and not overeat the bad choices. There will always be things thrown at me. I can't stop living. I'm trying so hard to stay on tract.
|
Taxi girl. I don't know how they get that chart showing the weight and goal either. But from what I understand I have to have 20 posts and 20 days and it's not 20 days yet. Maybe it will show up when it's time.
|
Good Morning, All...
Welcome, Taxi Girl and Cajun Lady! Yes, it's 20 days/20 posts, and then you have to set up the weight squiggly. You can get help with that after you've met the 20/20. Marie - what did you think of the DWTS finale? I was disappointed, all around! I'd have liked them ALL to win, and I'm glad I didn't have to make the choice! Any one of the three would have been a fine choice. It was a particularly good season, I thought. Off today, doing a little laundry. The cat box OBVIOUSLY needs attention (I HATE summer!), and I have a few things on GM's grocery list to purchase. Nothing very exciting on the agenda! Sounds like you're all doing okay. Bobbi - sorry the rummage sale didn't go as well as the other ones did. Mary - what IS the website you found? You mentioned it, but you didn't provide a link. Hope you're all doing well! Later! |
Isabella - I lose 4-5 lbs every month. Unfortunately, it's the same 4-5 lbs over and over!
This morning I was in the kitchen and heard this thump, thump, thump noise and I went and looked outside and it was DH starting on the flower bed by himself. He was digging out a weed. I grabbed my gloves and went out to help/supervise. We dug out everything (except the azaleas) I pulled out what were weeds and we replanted the purple cone flowers. They resemble black eyed susans but they are a purplish pink flower. I ended up with some extra plants and they are sitting in a bucket of water while I figure out where to plant them. If I were still working I would take them to work and people would take them home. Then we covered the dirt with red mulch. Looks nice. He also put some red mulch around the shrubs in front so now we have to go get some more mulch to do the other side of the house. My knee is screaming. If I had had time to think about it I would have worn my knee brace that I wear when I exercise. I also dug out a bunch of pink gladiolia bulbs. They just keep multiplying! LOL And while digging I dug up some other bulbs that I think are daffodils, so I replanted them. I think at one time I had tulips in that flower bed too, but I didn't find them, unless the ones I thought were daffodils were the tulips. Lord knows what I'll have next spring! Marie - I understand the concept of not having the bad food in the house. I do. But it's always going to be somewhere. In the long run, we are all better off learning to resist it and then it doesn't matter if we see it or not. I refuse to blame someone else for food that I put in my mouth myself. Everytime I resist I get a little stronger and feel really good about myself. |
Oh sorry Jess I thought I posted the url. Here it is: http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/
Not much going on here. Still working on the house but keep getting interrupted by other things...paying bills, phone calls, etc. Dh decided to go to Costco and I had to go too...we usually share a combo pizza there but he wanted a hotdog today and I don't care for them so I ended up with a whole piece of pizza...I ate about 3/4 of it. And I also picked up a macadamian chocolate cluster and a sample of mocha. :( I will likely regret all that because it doesn't leave me many calories tonight. Taxigirl - Not sure if I've welcomed you. So, WELCOME!! Always glad to have new people join us!! Cajunlady - I know how it is to want to go somewhere but dread the food issues involved. But do go and have fun. You can always take care of business when you get home.. Rie - You are so disciplined you probably can keep your own special treats in your house. I'm not sure I should tempt myself that much yet. Only multi-packs I ever get are those 40 cal fudsicles a few times a year. Even if I eat the whole pack I don't too much damage! |
Hi Golden Chicks -
This a quick drive by. Tomorrow I will be able to catch up on everything I think. Just read the first page of posts as I scrolled down. Welcome to Taxi and Cajun Lady. I look forward to getting to know you. Marie - lol when I r4ead about my salad croutons. However, I do less damage with those than I do with the crack, I mean chocolate! Glynne - I too have found DH stash. And DS once left a box of lemon heads out (just 3 weeks ago,) and I ate them. He said, "I didn't think you had a problem with Lemon Heads." I told him I tried one in desperation and found that I like them...Better than salad croutons. I told DH he had to find a new place for his stash. Going to play bunko tonight. Will be LOTS of evil treats around. I'm not in the mood for that. I am in detox mode. I had a big chocolate binge a few days ago:(. I'll be back later tonight or tomorrow. Hugs to all! |
Hi GG's,
Just got in from DGD's soccer game. Nice evening for a change. It was warm today but not too. Got a lot of stuff done around the house. cleaning and laundry. This afternoon I decided to clean my closet. WHAT was I thinking? It took forever. Took everything out, washed it down and sorted. Lots of stuff in there that must have hidden forever. I actually had "mom" jeans! nice everything is sorted by type and even color. Maybe I can find something to wear now. Welcome CajunLady. Look forward to getting to know you. Have fun on your camping trip. Gets lots of exercise and eat as well as you can. We do what we can, when we can. If you're taking food make sure that you take stuff that you can eat. Hi Taxigirl, There are a lot of us here, and everyone is really supportive. It takes awhile to get all of us straight, i'm sure, but soon we hope to be like family. Dee, Actually, I like salad croutons, so I might be tempted to eat them too. Hubby's candy, not so much. I guess it's a good thing. He likes stuff like those pink circus peanuts, and candy corn. Those I wouldn't eat even if I was pretty hungry. Mary, got a flyer from Costco today. I don't have a membership but I keep thinking about it. I do like to go in and look sometimes. And some things are pretty cheap. Carol Sue, Sounds like you really got a good workout today, getting the gardening done. I love prenenials that I can divide and share. I guess we all have our own way of avoiding temptation. DH has lots of "his" stuff around and i'm not too tempted. Some stuff is just too hard to stay away form. I know the stuff is out there, but I'm not tempted by it every day. Bobbi, Sorry you didn't get rid of more of the stuff that you took to the garage sale. I hope you made enough money to make it worth your while. I have a couple of roses blooming too. Hi Donna, did you get a lot done today? Freda |
Hello Goldens,
This will be a quick post tonight as I want to bury my head in a book. I was training today and it went well but it always makes me tired. Particularly when I am a little under the weather. Every day I have been checking my garden plants when I come home. It is fun. They are out of shock and growing away in their little wallowaters. I can't wait till the cucumbers start producing.... Bobbi, sorry that the garage sale didn't work out. It sure is a lot of work. I have been thinking of doing that and I sure have enough stuff but it is SO much work. I will have to consider it. I could start my own used book store the way it is and I know that I could sell lots of clothes and stuff. It might be worth it. Taxi, hello and welcome! Freda, I was laughing at the idea of you cleaning your closet. What were you thinking indeed! i always think it is a good impulse until I get in the middle of the huge job and then I have to finish. I need to do that, though. DeeLee, have fun at Bunko and good luck with the evil treats. Mary, doing the family research is so much fun. I hope you enjoy. Donna, a friend is headed for Denver next week and I told her she simply must visit the Blue Bonnet. She said they are also going to a "peruvian steak house" where you eat salad and then they just keep bringing around all kinds of grilled meat for sampling. Have you heard of this? Cajun, just keep posting and you will get a ticker! Well, to the Karens, Gayle, Rosie, Zoe, Isabella and anyone else I missed... Later! Rie |
Cajun, great job on your weight loss effort. You seemed to find a diet that fits what you like. How cool is that?
Donna, I was a very happy DWTS fan last night. Heavens chickie, Donald is a PACKER for goodness sakes. I used all my text votes, all DH’s text votes and my house phone votes for him on Monday night. But I really liked all three. It was an amazing amount of talent. Carol Sue, I totally agree about letting bad food in the house. Heck, I will eat some of it and DH likes junk. I wish you could send me all those discard bulbs. I’d love them. And I could have my DH plant them. I’m such a lazy gorker. Mary, at the sample of mocha. We are mocha addicts. Deelee, there are moments needing the croutons and moments (most minutes in the day) that need chocolate. I LOVE chocolate. I worship the cocoa bean. And I’d take the croutons (especially the focaccia garlic ones from Costco) over lemon heads any day. Freda, glad your weather was finally nice for your DGD’s soccer game. Good thing she’s not playing here. We have frost warnings and it’s supposed to rain. I wonder the weatherfools know that 32 and rainy means snow??? Rie, my wall-o-waters are supposed to be delivered on Friday by Fedex. YAY! I told DH to read the directions as you got so muddy. And truly, I’d set them up but he has this habit of taking over anything and everything needing a handyman. So I let him. Aren’t I generous??? ;) Still drowning at work and since I was up late watching DWTS last night, I’m too tired to read (will put me to sleep) or anything else. So I got to visit two nights in a row. Now, I need to go to audible dot com and pick out a new book to listen to. I finished my audiobook and need another. Or else I will be miserable on my way to work tomorrow. Marie |

Welcome to Cajun and Taxi and any other newbys I might have missed. I like seeing new members on this board. Keep it active, girls, I'm retired with nothing else to do. LOL
Happy Birthday, Rosie! Enjoy your day! Mr Crankypants better be nice to you today! LOL Bobbi, Happy Birthday to you, too! Now you're even another year older! I can't handle this! My gardening certainly was a workout. I used muscles I forgot I had, but it felt good to have that flower bed looking good again. After the flowers take root and start to bloom I will take pictures. On the other side I have a shrub I have to dig out and find another place for it. I have 2 daylillies that are huge. I'm contemplating digging them up and splitting them but I have no one to share them with. I need to get more friends. LOL One of the daylillies I brought home from the cabin years ago and shared with my step son. It means so much to DH to have something from the cabin growing in his yard. I probably should thin out my iris but I think I will wait til fall since they are blooming so well right now. Then I will be done until next year. We don't have a big yard. |

hAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MISSY BOBBI, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU. |
I found something online regarding Social Security survivor benefits. To me, it looks like you will only receive part of your spouse's benefits if his benefits are considerable higher than yours, and then you will receive the higher of the two payments. In other words, my husband and I receive almost the same amount, so there wouldn't be any significant additional payment if one of us dies. That's not what I wanted to hear.
Read the paragraph "If you are already receiving social security benefits". http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10084.html#a0=2 |
Marie. There is nothing I love more than chocolate candy. Had I not been on this weight loss journey the Easter candy in my house would not still be here today. There is a candy jar sitting on my island and I pass that jar every day and look at it. Some days I say I think I will set one. It won't hurt. But then I think if I start with one I'll never stop. Then I think I will feel so guilty if I eat that and I've walked away so far. Let me tell you something funny. My dear old mother in law made me a pineapple cake with cream cheese icing. Favorite cake. I was pretty upset because I knew I didn't want to eat any. Well I did have a very small piece and I was going to hide and give it to my sister and her family. Really felt guilty for giving it away after mother in law went to all of that trouble to make it at her age 80 years old. Well my sister came to get it and I told her not to say a word and when she was done to bring back the cake pan. Sneaky. On her way to the door the cake slipped out her hand and flew across my living room. All I could do was laugh. I thought to myself that's what you get for being sneaky. That cake was not meant to leave my house. At least it was on the floor and not on hips. Just thought I would share. Looking forward to getting o knowcall of you.

Quick good hola, All...
Been on the phone to Juno Tech already... the rains washed out the DSL connection (or something) for two days.... anyway, I'm BACK. Rie - I haven't heard of a Peruvian steakhouse but 1) I'm no longer an connoisseur and 2) the one I googled is downtown, which mean I am NOT. I'll be interested to hear her take on it. Freda - no, I pretty much gorked on my day off. GM has been asking for Nicholas Sparks books, so I got her three at the library and have read them all in three days. I'm so overloaded on sugar that I might have diabetes today!! Gotta roll.... Later, lovelies! Happy Birthday Rosey!! You are such a special person and I feel blessed to have gotten to know you! I hope you have a wonderful day!
I may not have time later on so thought I'd better post now. Our 12 year old gs is coming this afternoon for a few days while his parents are busy with their businesses. Our life is much different than what he normally has but I think he enjoys the difference at least for a while as he usually chooses to come to us when they give him options. I have to run out and get a little more meat for tonight's dinner soon. My new computer gave me problems yesterday and this am. I called tech service (Costco provides it free for two years). I think she was not sure what to tell me as didn't seem too familiar with this kind of computer, however in the process of troubleshooting, I accidentaly removed the power cord and when it started up all was fine again. Don't know if it will last but you can bet I will stay on them this time if things aren't working right. I lost some recipes with the restoration of my files, not sure why. Who knows what else is missing but that's all I've noticed so far. It is cloudy and drippy today again. The sun did come out for a while yesterday though and tomorrow it is suppose to be at least 70 and dry. Dh plans to take our gs swimming and fishing as he mentioned he was looking forward to that. Marie - The sample of mocha was made with soy milk. I've never made it that way. It was ok, but mine is better.;) bobbi - Just saw its your birthday too!!! Happy Birthday!! Have a wonderful day!! You are another very special lady...seems like the GG are a bunch of special ladies!! I'm very glad to know you all. Well much to do before we pick up our gs so better get moving. ETA: Slmn11 I read the the SS link and that sounds more like I have been told before by others. It doesn't say the % one can get of the spouse (if you also get your own SS), but if I get 1/2 like others have told me, I think at this time my own check may be better. |
:bday2you::bday2you::bday2you::bday2you::bday2you: Bobbi!!!!!
:bday2you::bday2you::bday2you::bday2you::bday2you: Rosey!!!!! Mary, the mocha sample would be a killer (soy is a personal killer for me). I'm not into mocha mixes. Actually there aren't many things I make pre-mixed. Marie |
Hi everyone,
I've been pretty busy since my first post. Thanks for all the welcomes. I have tried every diet in the book. My final diet. (I hope) Of course, how many times have I said that. I know a young man who has a practice as a hypnotherapist. He only does behavioral change type stuff. Tonight is my second session with him. Last week we did a session on breathing, and how to be calm and relaxed. I stepped on the scale and recorded my weight of 225 lbs. I'm 5'2 1/2 " (My poor knees suffer) He said to put the scale away. Not supposed to weigh for 6 weeks. He told me not to worry about calorie counting, except to make sure I never eat less than 500 calories at a meal, and never go more than 5 hours between meals. It's very important to eat brkfst, lunch and dnr at brkfst, lunch and dnr times. If I do need to go a little longer I'm supposed to have a 260 cal. snack. He explained the body doesn't know that next meal is coming, so after 5 hours it starts to store fat to compensate. As long as the body gets fuel at reg. times, it has nothing to store and the fat leaves. It makes sense, I guess. Anyway, here I go again. I'm hopeful. He guarantees the weight loss or I get my money back. I've known him for about 5 years and I'm pretty sure I can trust him, as long as I don't start clucking and doing the chicken dance. Haha!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY - BOBBI AND ROSIE!!!!!!!!!!! |
Thank you for all the birthday wishes. DH is taking me out for prime rib tomorrow night. His favorite, I might have something else. I usually like fish but who knows what I'll be hungry for.
taxi gal...sounds like a good food plan, good luck. We're finally getting some good rains here, the earth has cracks in it. I'm enjoying the pitter patter of rain on the windows while DH is cleaning up the kitchen. Life is good! |
We've had nothing but rain here all week. I like the rain, probably why I've been in Oregon all of my life. I think I may have webbed feet. Anyway, it's supposed to be partly sunny over Memorial Day weekend. I really look forward to that. I bought a couple of tomato plants, green beans and a clematis I would like to get in the ground.
I'll be back later. I think I need to get back to work. :( Bobbi: Have a great time at dinner. Salmon and halibut are always my favorites. Of course, surf & turf if good too!! Oh heck, I just like to eat!! |
