Hello goldens!
I lost my other post because apparently the tech people didn't give me any word processing programs so I was unable to cut and paste. I will do my best on personals from memory... Yay me! My preliminary budget is in and I don't have to do any more number crunching til the first of June! I am so happy! Bobbi, you are to be commended on your frugality. My granny would be so proud of you! Rosey, I am so sorry about your friend. It sounds like she is a well-loved person. Gayle, exercise is best in little chunks until you get used to it. You can do it - I know! Mary, I sometimes think that it is hard for others to comment on our bodies - even if we lose weight. Obviously your Joe loves you no matter what! Debbie, I think that yoga is wonderful and I have used the chair type exercise programs in the past. Whatever you can do, will make you feel better. Donna, I have befriended many feral cats. They can't help what they are - just like any other wild animals. Feed him from a distance. I hope that you heal quickly. Karenfl, LOL on gummy bear snouts. Thanks for the laugh, as always. Marie, I posted on the challenge site tonight. I am following your lead about staying off the scale for a while. I just am trying to behave. Freda, I suppose you are smack dab in the middle of grandma week. Enjoy! Zoe, how are you? Karenmo, Drink the champagne! Lynn, how ya doing? Isabella, that is a really nice car that your kids bought! Well, you now see the limits of my feeble memory. Happy May! Later! Rie |
Happy May Day everyone!:encore:Do you all remember the fun of making homemade May baskets and passing around?
DH just said he was hungry for waffles/pepper bacon tonight so we'll have a easy supper. I have some frozen blueberries in the freezer to add. Never used them in waffles before, do you think I can put them in the batter frozen or should I thaw them out first? Donna...I like the idea of keeping 20 bucks everytime DH annoys me, I'll keep that in mind. As to your feral cat, that's what was hanging around when we first moved out in the country. She wouldn't go away so we let her sleep in the breezeway at night and kept food and water for her. She was pitch black and passed away after a few years. We hadn't planned on getting another cat but a pitch black showed up at our door so we let her sleep in the breezeway. Only this one had a tummy full of kittens, All black. We gave all away but one, had her fixed. After her mom died we just had her until a big black tom cat came. Yes, we adopted him too, he used to jump up on DH's shoulders and go to sleep when DH was bent over weeding the garden. We are cat free now and plan to stay that way since I'm allergic to them. Dee...good new on the marrow results of hubby. At my age, I wouldn't want to train a new DH. I'm with Donna on that one. I think You and Tim have the adventure bug and like moving to new places. Brenda...hope you have your $180 back. Holy Cow, that's a lot for meds, hopefully it's a 3 month prescription? Freda...that's one veggie I can stay away from. We had sweet corn all around us last summer and was told by the farmer to eat all we want. I think I had 2 ears total, DH ate about a dozen. The farmer sells it all to Green Giant, do you buy that brand in your area? Mary...can you imagine men going thru child birth? They'd never let you forget the pain. Hi everyone I missed, my cp cleaner is starting it and automatically shuts down when finished. I don't want to retype this. Later Gators. Hi Lynn and Zoe. .00 |
Hello Goldens! Happy May!
Wow, I leave for Vegas in 9 days. I have a fishing trip planned for this weekend on Saturday. I better get myself together. The last couple days I have been carrying an index card with my "to do" list. I have also been practicing at least an hour per day. Bobbi, thanks for the new thread! How did your pancakes turn out? I am always leary of using frozen fruit because of the water content. Brenda, any news on your money? Rosey, how is your friend? I hope better. Zoe, where for art thou? Gayle, sorry that it is funeral wear day for you at work. Freda, I love fresh sweet corn - dripping with butter ! :p ARG! Marie, can you believe that they put my computer together without office or any word processing program????? GRRRRR. Carol, I would never eat the food on Chopped - ok maybe I would try it, I am pretty adventurous. I really enjoy the show though, and I like Iron Chef too. I don't enjoy Diners Drive inns and Dives but I like Guy very much. Isabella, perhaps the dear lady forgot how much money she was putting in the purse. that is an amazing story. Ok, with last night's late posts, I think I am all caught up. Have a great May day! Rie |
Good Morning GG's Happy May Day:cheer3:
I'm doing well with my eating and movement. I'm sure i could bump up my exercise, and i'm going to focus on that this month. Rie AWESOME, where are you going? A casino trip? I'm taking a 4 day casino trip at the end of this month. Bobbi Yes i noticed as i've aged that my balance is not what it used to be. I'm still going to give the class a try. Everyone have a healthy day! debbie! |
Good morning GG's and Happy May!
I did pretty well last month and lost weight, but it was because I had a wedding to attend and wanted the dress to fit better HAHA. After that, I kind of lost momentum and the scale didn't move. May is a good time to start again, and maybe lose 5-10 more pounds before Memorial Day, when we start wearing summer things around here. It's beautiful outside today and I'll walk for an hour - hopefully every day this week. have a good one! Andi |
Rie...I had a comment about your frugal granny and was going to ask about her but my cp was trying to shut down on me. So what's the scoop about her and tell me what she did that was so frugal. I'm all ears! As to the waffles, we're making them for supper tonight and I'll have to google the questions of throwing the blueberries in frozen or thawed.
Andi...see your name reminded me to post my miles on the Colorado Escape. Are you still posting your miles? I haven't posted all week-end because of our rummage sale. |
Bobbi - I think someone you trust, maybe your daughter should know about your stash, just in case. DH said that his father used to stash money somewhere in the house but when he died they could never find it. I think he spent it. They said he was never home...maybe he had another family somewhere. I know of someone who did that and it was revealed when his wife passed away. Years ago there was a man at work who didn't believe in banks. He told me he kept his money behind a loose brick in the basement of his home. When he passed away, I always wondered if his wife knew about that loose brick. I would have called her and told her but she might have wondered why he shared that info with me. LOL
Let us know what you did with the blueberries....defrost or not. I would think all it would take would be to run some water over them. I panicked when I read that you threw recipes away! My mother used to cut recipes from magazines and the newspaper etc and she kept them for years. When she died I inherited them. She didn't cook these recipes, just collected them. Funny, but I find that I'm the same way. I have a couple file folders full of recipes I have cut out. Some I have used but most, not. I can't believe I inherited that trait from Mom. I keep telling myself that when DH is gone I will cook these recipes. He is the picky eater who will never eat anything new. Isabella - I can't imagine carrying that much money around. Women's purses are such a target in shopping areas. They can grab them and run off in a matter of seconds. I get nervous just having credit cards in my purse. Maryea - You could try stretching your shoes a bit. When I buy shoes that are a little too tight, I wear them around the house for a few hours with 2 pairs of socks. Sometimes it stretches them out just enough that they're comfortable. The coated fries are peeled and cut and tossed in a bowl with some olive oil. They they are seasoned with some salt, pepper, garlic powder and then coated with the chicken seasoning that I think might mean Shake and Bake. Then they are baked in the oven on a cookie sheet. If you want to take the easy way out, they are sold in bags in the frozen food section of the grocers freezer. They are not healthy, or diet friendly, but they're good. I always loved potatoes but when I was single and keeping carbs to a minimum, potatoes were only a rare treat. After I met DH they became a daily staple. I still try to limit them but I'm not as successful as I was when they weren't in the house. If I know someone is dieting, I try to make a nice comment now and then, because I know how good it makes you feel and gives you incentive to continue. DH never gives compliments. One time a friend made a comment to him that I looked good with my weight loss and he said "Yes, but I won't tell her because then she'll think she looks so good that she doesn't have to try anymore." That made me angry, because actually, hearing good comments gives me the incentive to continue so I will get more positive feedback! Men!!! Rosey - I am so sorry to hear about your dear friend. How kind of you to sit with her. She is in my prayers and so are you. |
Bobbi, I put frozen blueberries in pancakes all the time so I think they would be alright in waffles. They take a little longer to cook but not too much longer. I have loads of wild blueberries in the freezer so I try to put them in pancakes every time I make them. I hadn't thought of May Day baskets in years until you mentioned them in your post.
Rie, you probably have to buy a word processor program for your new computer. I don't think mine came with one and we purchased WP as that's what I was used to. I was able to purchase the educator's package at a cheaper price. Rosey, I hope your friend is doing better but I know sometimes we wish these things for ourselves. I'll keep her in my prayers and hope that she can be at peace. Donna, my sister feeds all the stray cats in her neighbourhood. She's even built a little feeding station so they can stay dry when it rains. You'd get along with her. Marie, I've had a good meal at Costco myself eating the samples. LOL At least it was enough to keep me going until I got home to a real meal. Senior's Buffet, I must remember that. Hahahaha. Brenda, any news on a reimbursement for those stolen drugs? That's a lot of money to lose. Andi, I always lose better when there is a goal to achieve like a wedding or summer clothing. That old scale will start to move again. Carol Sue, we were posting the same time. Those potatoes sound delicious. I love crispy, coated foods. Yum! And I love potatoes. Lynn, how did the Chopped dinner go? Or is it still to come? Can't wait to hear the details of that dinner. Well, would you believe it, I have another funeral to attend this week. I did a little baking for it today and will make soup later on. I'll have to rename my vegetable soup "Funeral Soup" as I'm on my third potful in a month. It's actually a memorial service for a woman who died in Ontario and was cremated. Half her family lives here and they want a service to celebrate her life. I don't know them well but DH grew up with them and knows them well. Happy May Day to you all. Here's a little basket of flowers for you all. http://vintageholidaycrafts.com/wp-c...wer-basket.jpg |
Happy May Day everyone,
Yes Bobbi I remember doing the may day baskets.. Here in my little town we are having a May Pole dance and party at the park. should be fun, having a flo wer sale too, i hope i can get there for that. About my meds. i have heard nothing!! Yes i went to the post office and i filled out a complaint. Walmart says they are not liable because it was scanned at the post office as recieved since it was put in my PO Box. And yes Bobbi it was a 3 month perscription.180.00 I have medicare and they paid for the ones that were stolen but will not cover the the new script i have for another 3 months so that is were the 180.00 comes in. I will keep fighting with whoever to get my money. That is just not acceptable. well off to Town today. Gotta get that dang perscription and go to costco. Get my fat kitty her diet food and pick up some dirt for my flower pots. DH and i will probably go out for lunch and make a day of it. have a great day everyone. Rosey sure hope your friend gets better. I know the hurt your feeling I lost my dear friend Marie about a month ago and I miss her dearly. Cheers! Brenda |
Isabella thanks for the Cute flower Basket !!!

I hate to post a non healthy recipe, but since a couple people have shown an interest, here it is. Eat at your own risk! I don't know if they are the same as the ones we get at the casino or not.
OVEN - BAKED FRENCH FRIES 6 lg. baking potatoes 3/4 c. water 3 tbsp. oil 1/2 tsp. Tabasco 1/2 tsp. onion powder 1/2 tsp. garlic powder 2 envelopes seasoned coating mix for chicken Salt Peel potatoes and cut into long strips. Mix water, oil and Tabasco in a large bowl. Add potatoes and toss to wet thoroughly. Drain. Mix onion, garlic powder and coating mix. Add potatoes and toss until well coated. Place in a single layer on a foil-lined cookie sheet and bake in a preheated hot oven (400 degrees) for 30 to 35 minutes or until easily pierced. Sprinkle with salt and serve hot. Serves 6. |
Good Hola!
Wowsers, there are a lot of posts already today! Rie - you sound very serene, now that all your budgets/visitors/inspections, etc. are finished! And yes, I'm feeding Sabrino and being very circumspect about touching him. He can stay as long as he likes! Debbie - have you tried yoga yet? I love the stretches, feel so good!, but I have such a lot of trouble bending (big belly!). Even the beginning poses are difficult for me; however, I do the leg stretches religiously for my hip. I suppose if I'd just stick with it on a regular basis, all would get better. Good luck! Isabella - the really good thing about feeding a stray is that he's grateful for anything and isn't picky! SamCat picks at his food and then lets it dry out, and I used to just toss it. Now I put it in a plastic bag and mix fresh food and give it to Sabrino. Is that a bad idea? Sounds terrible when I write it! Anyway, I'm not wasting food which is still good, and it's not really costing much more to feed two than it did to feed one. I went to Catholic schools as a wee tart, and the May Day celebrations were always such a big deal! The 7th and 8th grade girls in our grade school dressed up in (to us) fancy outfits and carried bouquets down the church aisle to place in front of the Virgin Mary's statue. It was really special... I'm off work again today. The hand is still a bit swollen, but it's coming along. I feel REALLY GUILTY about being home from work, but I'll go back tomorrow (regular day off) and try to mitigate the guilt that way. The Catholics did a good job on me. Rosey - any news on your friend? Good thoughts. SS/Zoe, Marie, Freda, CK, KarenFL and everyone I missed... hope you're having a lovely May Day! Later, lovelies! |
Happy MayDay every one!! I remember celebrating it in school too. Always so much fun to fix up the baskets and we had a HUGE pole on the playground that we would attach ribbons too and just have a good time.
Donna, take care of that hand!! That gives new meaning to the words, "Bite the hand that feeds you!" I also have a little stash...Very little but none the less.... When my Mom passed away my sister and I went through her house to pack up, sell, give away--- Gosh, we found several thousand dollars there. She had money in cups, dishes, coffee cans, under the ironing board cover (we found $500 there) Also she had a panel in her bathroom to take off if you had to get to the faucets for any repair work-- Can't remember how much there but several hundred!! So needless to say we had to go through every nook and cranny before throwing anything away! And yes, she loved her computer--- but printed out every email she ever got...jokes, pictures, emails you name it... OMG!!! Well, I need to get in to the kitchen and fix some lunch. Think I'll do some kind of a smootie again today... We had portein Oatmeal Pancakes for supper last night and they were good BUT I forgot to put blueberries in them... I usually just had them in frozen Bobbi!! Have a good day. |
Carol Sue, thank you for that recipe. I'm absolutely going to make those when I have a few people to help eat them. They sound so good and I have a couple of packs of coating mix I've been going to use just to get rid of. (pantry shopping, lol)
Oh my, Kare31, about your mother's money stashed all over the house. I wonder how many people get rid of their parent's things and get rid of money at the same time? Years ago most women had a "sugar basin" for emergencies. It's not a bad idea but I wouldn't want to keep too much around the house. Donna, your money saving on cat food is not terrible at all. Cat's don't mind and Sabrino is eating well. Brenda, hope you're having a nice day shopping. Must go get supper. Mostly fruit tonight with a slice of homemade raisin cinnamon bread. Catch you all later. |
Hi Everyone,
My DD made a bunch of chocolate, peanut butter, Fiber One cookies - haystacks. She got the recipe from Hungry Girl. She used DARK chocolate. They are DELICIOUS and filling. Just doing coursework here. I did it again - doing 2 courses at the same time - just for 1 more week. I am a sucker - I hate to say no to these courses. Friday evening is a dinner dance with some of my students. My DD & SIL are escorting me. Hopefully, it will be nice weather - it is outside in a big tent. Chopped event is on Mother's Day. I am looking forward to it. Have a GREAT rest of your May Day - anyone else used to do MayPole dances? Also - get rose petals and strew them down the aisle of the church? Lynn |
There's a little cool breeze today and no sun. Dh wanted to work in the yard but it's a little too cool and damp to enjoy being outside long. We worked out as usual..this was his tai-chi day so I worked in the machine room alone (well with all the other people. :D ) I did the bike for 30 min as I didn't get to read the first 15 min due to talking to the lady next to me, so did an extra 15 min just so I could read! I ONLY read my Kindle at the gym or when waiting for an appt so it takes me a while to finish a book and I get anxious to read esp if it's a good book. So that made me run late so only did ten min on the treadmill and only two weight machines.
I survived last nights dinner out pretty well. Only gained back .6# so hopefully I can lose that fairly fast. I think I did pretty well however next time I go there I think I will cut back on the dessert a bit more. Still, I didn't feel like I really pigged out. My bs was very high at bedtime, but today after breakfast and exercise it was only 107 which unusually low for me even after exercise. Of course dh's bs was great last night and he actually LOST a pound even though he ate about the same amt as me maybe even more!:dizzy: Lynn - Oh your dd's cookies sound SO good!! I'm glad they are not in MY house! Jess - Hope your hand heals quickly. I think what you are doing for the stray cat is great. If you weren't feeding him he might not have anything or eat very poorly. Slmn - Your oven baked fries don't sound terribly unhealthy to me...it is 6 serv so you aren't really getting much oil and can use a healthy oil. Of course I don't know what's in the coating mix...is it high in fat or is it the sodium you're worried about? Sounds good. Some men sure aren't good with compliments. I don't know if stretching would help with the shoes because they aren't too tight...in fact I wouldn't want them any wider..I have narrow feet and these are slip-on shoes. It's just that they are a little short esp for my left where my great toe is a bit longer I guess. When dh and I go to Costco...we usually do the samples AND share a slice of pizza! We call it our "cheap date." But it's really too many calories and carbs for me esp if it's a day when there are a lot of samples. Bobbi - Yes, you did tell me about finding the budgeting program. I hope you like it. Yes, I can't imagine most men handling childbirth but if they had to (like us) they'd manage I guess. There has been one man who had a baby and I hear he's pregnant again! But doubt he had to go through labor at all. Probably just put him to sleep I'm guessing. However, my dh is not much of a complainer. Sometimes I wish he would complain more...he'll have pain and won't tell me until it's been hours sometimes. Well, he's calling me to watch Judge Judy with him...yes that's how our afternoons go..sad isn't it? LOL Mary |
About men having babies - when you think about it, with artificial insemination, and ceserean (SP?) deliveries, I would guess that this might become more common. Especially if the wife has some kind of physical problem. Is the man then the mother?

Good evening GG’s,
Ahhhh ~ done with most of the “have to do” stuff for today. A few more things to do to be ready to go back to work tomorrow. Had a little sewing to finish on the wardrobe of gloom. One of the tops ~ when I washed it, the trim did not fare well, so I had to take it off and put on a different one. Then finished up making some of the things like those Cami Secret things that they show on TV. A cloth insert that you fasten to your bra straps and it goes across the space in a V-neck top so your cleavage isn’t hanging out. I hate that. I had bought some of the ready made ones (found a better price on-line than at Walmart), but had worn those out. A lot of people wear a colored T-shirt under their scrubs, but I get too hot doing that, so the Cami Secret knock offs I made were cut from the bottom of little kids shirts and will look like a T-shirt, cover up the “girls” and I won’t get too hot. LOL. Made them in colors to match the trims. Then, got the rest of my education stuff done. I thought I was done before, but the corporate office added more stuff. Hopefully they won’t add more for a while ~ I’d like to be done with that stuff so I can do something fun. Glad not to be there today, as the state inspectors were supposed to be there. I feel bad for my coworkers, but glad at the same time not to be there myself. Lynn ~ your chopped thing sounds neat. So does that recipe for the fiber one haystacks ~ I probably shouldn’t ask, but where can I find the recipe for that? Mary ~ glad you did well with your eating out last night. LOL at your cheap date CK ~ the idea of a “secret stash of cash” sounds cool, but I couldn’t get away with it as DH keeps track of just about every penny. Maybe a little here and there wouldn‘t be missed, but it would take an awfully long time to add up to much of anything. Donna ~ hope your hand is healing and feeling better. I think what you do with SamCat’s left overs is a great idea. Nothing goes to waste that way, you don’t have to buy extra for Sabrino and he is probably very thankful for it. Brenda ~ hope you get your medication mess straightened out ~ that is just not right. Isabella ~ thank you for the May Basket of flowers. Happy May Day to you too. Andi ~ did you enjoy your walk today? Love it when the weather is nice out to be able to do that. Debbie ~ glad your eating and moving is going well for you. Rie ~ enjoy your fishing trip then your Vegas trip Bobbi ~ I hadn’t thought about those May baskets in a long time until you mentioned them. I remember making them in school and coming home and hanging them on mom and dad’s door or grandma’s door. Marie ~ wasn’t today your first full day back? Or was that last week? Sorry I forget ~ how did your fur babies do? Rosey ~ sorry to hear about your friend. Will pray. Any news today? Freda ~ how are you holding up with all the running for the grandkids ~ you are one busy grandma Mrslosingit ~ how did your WW weigh in go? Looks like from your ticker, you are doing well so far. KarenFL ~ are those gummy bears still keeping those pesky armadillos at bay? Cindy Gail ~ welcome back ~ you’re off to a good start doing some yoga. Deelee ~ I can identify with the annoying DH ~ mine irritates me at times, but I wouldn’t want anything to happen to him either like you said. Darcy ~ your kids and little grandson are so cute. Wow ~ what an undertaking to read the threads from all those months ~ and then to remember it all to comment and keep it all straight. Guess I’d better quit fooling around here and go finish the rest of the stuff that awaits me. I got some personals, but will have to finish more at another time ~ forgive me for those of you I didn’t get to this time. Hope you all have had a good day and having a good evening. Take care |
Lynn - I wonder how a man could possibly "grow" a baby, without a uterus to provide nourishment to the fetus? And HOW WOULD HE GET IT OUT?????????????????????????? I'm having incredibly entertaining graphic images!
Mary - the "man" who had the baby was a female to begin with... http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2...tes-from-wife/ I think this is all just a bit too much!! Gayle - I love the "wardrobe of gloom"! I'll be eager to hear how the administrative inspection went... and is just a one-day deal? Back to work tomorrow. I feel like a zombie and, apparently, need the stimulation of work! So sad, yes? Onward, lovelies! |
Lynn/Jess - Yes the "man" who had a baby (and is now pregnant again) WAS a woman and has a uterus. For now at least they have to have this organ, but the way things are progressing who knows about the future. LOL Seems like if one went to all that trouble to not be a woman, you wouldn't want to have a baby but then I understand that couples can be desperate to have babies. This world is changing so fast..sometimes I think I looked the other way for a few minutes and it did a flip on me or something. Good question, Lynn, is HE then the mother? I suppose not since he is now a man. Oh it's a confusing world...:?: Feel sorry for the children growing up in it but guess they won't know any different.
ETA: I notice this article is dated this year and says nothing about him being pregnant again. It even says he was contemplating a hyst, but I heard recently that he's pregnant again. Not sure now if it is true. |
Hi all!
Busy day today and I came home to a ds that is ill and the drain pipe from the kitchen sink busted and water went everywhere. Ugh! I was cranky with ds and I feel kinda bad about that. It bothers me how when there is something wrong with men, they become incapacitated but us females (especially moms) carry on.... Oh well. I did get in about an hour of pool practice. Bobbi, My beloved grandma marie lived until she was 97 and was still caring for her own home. She taught me a lot about living frugally and well. Everything she made was from scratch and most of it she grew. Only home canned fruits and veggies. (and meat, too) She made amazing breads and pastries and used to remind us girls that flour and yeast were cheap when bought in bulk. Scraps from veggies and meat went into the stock pot. Gma and Gpa had a couple hundred thousand in the bank when they passed but they always lived on their social security. They despised credit cards and didn't use them until Gpa discovered incentive programs. Then they were used and payed off every month. I absolutely adored her and I still miss her every day. She passed 6 years ago. Sorry to go on... Mary, ewwwww. That whole man/baby thing creeps me out. I forgot to tell you that I read the book "the mirror" on Saturday. I loved it! Donna, I am busy developing and enhancing my recreational interests in preparation for retiring. I don't want to need my work. :D On the other hand, most of my friends are convinced that I will work forever. Gayle, I am so impressed that you actually make yourself things like the cami secret things. How I wish that I had your talent! Lynn, I love those haystacks - so much that I can't have them in the house. I learned to make them with chow mein noodles but I think the fiber one is better. I am enchanted with the idea of the dance. Isabella, I love hearing about your vegetarian menus! Karen, nice chatting with you tonight. I loved the story about your mom and her money. I have small stash's of money everywhere. It is always nice to find it. Carol, I like the potato recipe. We do oven baked fries all the time. Brenda, have you ever tried the Self Watering planters they sell at Walmart? they are amazing! Rosey I am sending good thoughts your way  I don't remember who asked me about Vegas. I leave one week from tomorrow on my annual quest for glory at the Billiard Congress of America National Championships. I will be there a little more than a week. I love it - it is heaven for pool fanatics. There are usually about 5000 players in the various tournaments. Can you goldens believe that I am headed back for my second trip since I joined this group? Amazing. Time flies.......;) Sorry for anyone that I missed but I am tired. Rie |
Good morning GG's
Not feeling so great this morning. I knew I was coming down with something last night, but I was hopeing it was just sinus. I guess it's a cold. Not serious, just miserable. I know weather doesn't cause colds, but I'm thinking that sitting out in the rain and cold for 2 nights is not helping. Gayle, I need some of those inserts for my uniforms too. They are making them now and I found them at the drug store. One of those online TV things. I used to could buy petite scrub tops, but haven't found them in awhile. I did find some tops at Sears (of all places) that had a higher neck line, so that worked. Now I don't have to worry about leaning over a patient and causing an MI. Karen31, When my DIL's grandmother died they found money hidden all over the house. They had to go through everything with a fine tooth comb. It was in books, and there was a can of nails in the basement that had thousands of dollars hidden in the bottom. I guess it's good to keep some money at home, in case of emergencies. But with credit cards even that is questionable. And a little "mad" money never hurts. Rie, too true. Women have to carry on and have little down time when they are sick. Only men have that luxury. Bobbi, Congrats on the budget issue. I try to live frugally all the time. It's just how I was raised. Buy on sale, use what you have. All the splurges I do are for the Grankids. Donna, I saw the Man that had the baby on Oprah. It also showed how he looked as a femal. This will be their second child then? Don't know where they live but some areas are much more supportive. Lynn, I don't know what all the ing. are in the cookies, but they could be fairly healthy. A much better treat than some other things that you could choose. Isabella, I love potatoes too. I make the baked, fried, potatoes. Potatoes are a starchy vegetable but they are still pretty healthy. I use a mister for the oil and you can use a lot less. Debbie, have you tried the pilates yet? Balance is a problem for us all as we grow older. Something to really focus on. |
Hi Everyone,
A VERY rainy day here today. Mainly working on my classes. Have a great day, Everyone, Lynn Originally Posted by maryea: I do the same except mine is a Nook. Rie - I think the Fiber One haystacks would be healthy. I would use dark chocolate (healthy), peanut butter (healthy) and Fiber One cereal (healthy). A while back I bought the cereal to make them but never did. So far, all I did was taste the cereal as cereal, and didn't like it. Add PB and chocolate and I would probably love it! But eating 1? Not going to happen! LOL The only thing is I don't think the carb count would be favorable.
Marie - I used my epilator for the second time. It was much better than the first time. Hardly even felt it! I'm glad you recommended it. Maryea - I am concerned about the coated french fries mainly because of the carbs. That probably wouldn't be an issue for someone who isn't diabetic. I think one could look on the package from the coating and see what the total foods counts are. And they ARE baked, not fried. I use mainly canola oil at home which is a good oil and olive oil could probably be used. Here is a question for the resident nurses. My home nurse who comes every day checks my blook pressure and she said it is running high, averaging 150/82. Shortly after starting me on this new med I went to the dr to get it checked and it was 134/72 and the dr was satisfied with that. Still, when she checks it each day, it's high. Today I went for my regular check up with the cardiologist and it was 124/67. I know the nurse isn't going to be happy about that because she wants him to do something about the blood pressure, but when they check it, it's good. He said maybe I don't like the nurse and get stressed out when she's there. LOL I don't think that's the case, but I AM stressed out about WHY the nurse is here, because of the seromas in my incision. What do you think about this, and should I go by what the doctor is telling me? If I would hide money and DH found out about it he would go bezerk! His first wife slipped out one day while he was at work and he would suspect that I was saving up to do the same thing. Like I would consider leaving a guy who does the housework and the laundry! LOL |
Hi Golden Chicks - I found the secret to keep myself from eating carbs or anything at night - doing a sleep study. My endocrinologist has been telling me to have one done for about 2- 3 years. I finally did it last night. Very sweet technician “wired” me up, tucked me in, turned out the light. I was wired up so I couldn’t really get up to go to the bathroom. I knew about that so I prepared. AND THERE WAS NO FOOD THERE! I didn’t even miss it that much cuz I knew it wasn’t possible. Amazing. I’m going to try to replicate it at home - throw out the salad croutons. I have to go to the health club. I’ll be back later to do personals.

Just got home from the gym and grocery shopping. We skipped the treadmill today because we got a late start and we did walk ten min on the track and I walk very briskly. I told dh at first that I wanted to still walk the treadmill but after the bike I was tired so decided to just do the weight machines and call it enough. It's fairly bright out even though it's not really sunny and slightly cool.
The guy that was going to repair our roof is out of state on a job so that project has been delayed. We are both wanting to travel somewhere but not sure when we will do it. Our grandson (12) will be here this month and we may also visit our son who lives a couple hours away so perhaps that will be enough excitement for the month. Breakfast was my mocha made with and 1/2 c milk and regular pb. Yummy! It's creamier with regular pb but usually I use PB2 to keep it lighter. AM snack was three sm samples at Good Seasons store..a very small pc of waffle (without topping), about a tablespoon of berries, and two corn chips with a 1/2 t. of salsa. I liked the fruit the best and I gave the rest of the salsa and chips to dh. Lunch was a sm can of V8 juice and then an English muffin with 1 t. Smart Balance and 1 t. sugar free blueberry fruit spread. Also yummy! Karen3 - Sorry about the virus! A new laptop is nice though...I haven't tried a big ball mouse but have had wireless in the past. Mine didn't seem to last as long as my regular mouse does though. Not sure why. Deelee - Yes we can go without food when we have too, can't we? I always felt like I couldn't, but as a believer I knew that food is not in control of me and I'm finding that it is true. I just have to trust that. So far I'm doing fine. Slmn - Understand about the carbs however even though I'm diabetic I do still eat potatoes. I just count the carbs. If it weren't for my diabetes I'd eat much more potatoes though...so guess having the dx is good in some ways because it is limiting. About the BP, could you take it yourself now and then to see what kind of readings YOU get? If you don't have or want to buy the equipment you could go into a drug store or some place that has a BP booth set up or a nurse to do it. As long as that does not make you nervous. Doing it yourself would be best probably if you can. It is interesting that it is low at the doctors as that is when so many people stress, so it might just be the situation as you say. Rie - Glad you enjoyed The Mirror. Did you read it ALL in one day? Don't think I could do that but I remember having a hard time putting it down the first time I read it and so has everyone I've lent it to. |
Hello GG's
Yeah! my second round of 'surgery' went well this am. I was told He got it all. I have 4 stitches that come out in a week. I'm so glad this is behind me. I have been starving all afternoon! I'm still doing good about not giving in. Mary i use pb2 in my powdered protein, i love it. Lynn have an awesome day also. Freda please feel better! The slim me Not yet, i had a bit of surgery this am, and just got the community schedule yesterday. I will give this a try. lol Its warm and sunny here, i got my tomato plants and more flowers in. I'm a biggest looser fan, and the finale was last night. It was the worst year i have ever watched. 3 people with a chance of a lifetime QUIT. Way to much 'game play' for me.
But im sure the ratings were good for them. deb |

Good afternoon.....have got a homepage and maybe half of my favorites restored. Can't remember the favorites until I go to click on them. Can't figure out how to get the little hotmail icon back but if I sleep on it I'll know in the am.....seems like my brain works better when quiet????? My bedroom looks like a bomb went off worse because I removed a bunch of cords from under the desk that were not attached to anything???? Do they mate and multiple down there in the dark?
No way can I do personals...gesh you all are on page 3 in 2 days. I read you all and sending hugs instead. I battling this darn cold...have a cough that scares people as if I were a croupy kid. Just my normal hack... Survivor is on shortly....watching that this season like Lynn with Biggest Loser. Last year was bad and this season even duller. A week off BP meds and Bp is now 112/78 with 69 P. If I didn't have this head cold I'd be feeling really good. Back to my chair and tall glass of ice water...k3 |
KarenFL - sorry your PC imploded! Those viruses are BAD... and they seem to be getting worse! And I agree that there's so much chatting that one has to keep up daily or get lost. I'm lost. Maybe tomorrow I'll have a chance to catch up... or Friday? or Saturday, for sure!
Went in to work today, and there was a lovely bouquet of flowers for me. Aren't they just the best?????? See why I feel so guilty when I do something stupid like being bitten, which makes me stay home from work? I was like a zombie, anyway, and it was tough to get back into the routine. After 4 days off, I pretty much had to be retrained! Spring is definitely here... so gorgeous! My big ol' butt seems to have grown. It's time to get myself wired up like Dee was (that made me laugh), but for about a month!!! Onward, lovelies! Later, later.... |
I'm lost too. LOL
What a long day today. I got up early and made the Funeral Soup and then when it cooled down enough I took it to the church along with a cake I made for my friend to donate. She never bakes a thing and always has me to make any baked things she takes to our church potlucks or funeral luncheons, etc. I don't mind because I love to bake. I'm always worried there won't be enough food at these functions and I bake and cook like a possessed woman and make my DH wonder why all the good food is leaving the house. Well, it's late and I'm tired. Do have a good evening. Catch you all later. |
I'm going over to post my miles, then going to bed and listen to Chuck Swindahl. He's got a 25 minute sermon every week night (9:30-10:00)and a great way to round off my evening. He has the best sense of humor, I giggle often. Anyone ever listen to him? Gayle, you've probably heard of him since you're a Texan. |
Just a quick post tonight:
It has been a long day. Donna, they better appreciate you and shower you with flowers! Karen, it is not fair to have a cold and a virus in your computer at the same time. GRRRR. Lynn, I swear that you posted that your dd and dsil are escorting you to some kind of dance related to your school. Did I get that wrong? Isabella and Rosey.... Bobbi and Gayle, rest well. Caddyk, it was nice to chat with you last night. Marie, miss you. Time to rest. Morning is too darn early these days! Rie |

Good Morning GG's,
I'm feeling so much better today. I guess it was a 24 hour virus instead of a cold. I'm so glad, because I have to much to do to be sick. DGS's first tract meet is today and so is DGD's first play. So looking forward to going. I would have gone sick, as long as I could crawl, but I'll enjoy it so much more. Carol Sue, if you are getting good blood pressures at the doctors office I would question the calibration on the home nurses equipment. They can get off and have to be re-calibrated occasionally. Is your BP good at different doctors? Deb, I hope you enjoy the new exercise. I think you will find it really helpful. I really wish I had the patience for it. I know it's supposed to be relaxing and I just lay there and make lists in my mind. Rosey, I know your DF is taking comfort in your being there with here. Even if they are not even awake or in a coma, I've noticed that their BP goes down and their breathing eases when a loved one is talking with them. Donna, I'm glad you're feeling better and are back to work. And I'm glad that they appreciate you and got you flowers. makes it easier to go to work when the people you work with appreciates you. Brenda, how did the sleep study go? Rie, Are you resting up for that tournament this weekend? Isabella, You sound like my family. we always cook way too much because we're afraid there won't be enough. There is usually enough left to feed another group of people. How nice of you to bake for your friend. Karen, I hate , HATE computer problems. Probably because I'm so computer challenged. Lynn, Did you already do the Chopped? How did it work out? Everyone have a good day, Freda |
:grouphug:We're with you in spirit Rosey.
