Good Morning Gg's
I've been a good girl all week. It's nurses week, and you could not imagine all the junk that has been floating around at work. You name it, it was there. I did have some. I always have something, so I pick and choose. I dobn't believe in totally depriving myself, I know I'll end up eating more later. And Yesterday there was a "lunch and learn" at work that I attended. There was food there also. After the class I had 1 small piece of vegiterian pizza and a small salad. that was lunch and breakfast. I have been eating well and exercisng most days, along with my weights and my hula-hoop. And, and course, it's worked. it always does. I just don't always do it. Rosie, I know today will be hard for you, saying goodby to your friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you and her family. And Congratulations to you girl! What an accomplishment. and so many more to come. You are going to amaze yourself and your family in the months to come, at the things you are going to be able to do! Isabella, I too thought your BIL might be able to have treatment. He must have been very sick when it was found. Prayers. Bobbi, Good luck on the Tea. Hope things go well. I know there is a special place in heaven for people like you. Jess, I'm with you! After work a couple of days i'm totally beat. The thought of retirement is soooo welcome. And then I'm off a few days and i'm bored. I guess I'm using to living off adrenalin. I worked Thursday and it was a particurally bad day. We have to get patients "down" to our floor by 2. The beds were not ready on our floor because the housekeeper hadn't cleaned them. We cleaned them ourselves, AND mopped the floor. First time for everything. But we got through it and looking back i'm pretty proud of us. Gayle, I'm so sorry you feeling like that. I guess we all do at times. If I waited to feel like exercising I might never do it. I set times when I know I will have the time and I know I have to just get up and do it. Don't leave it up to "wanting to". I know you can do it! Just make a note to yourself and stick it on the fridge. Carol Sue, I don't ever think of myself as Thin either. I always think I need to lose weight, even when everyone is telling me to stop, enough! Body image is a funny thing. Taking picture along the way is a good idea. Deb, very day is a new beginning, a new day to get it right. I couldn't do it without planning. Making a menu for myself is a must. Just deciding as I go never works for me. too many temptations. Mary, My husband had problems breathing, a few years ago. The doctors had a hard time figuring out what was happening, even diagnosed him with some things that I KNEW he didn't have. He passed all the breathing tests and they still said he had COPD. I knew that wasn't right! Finally found out, with an upper GI that I talked the Dr. into doing, that he had a hieatal hernaia that was being irritated every time is diaphram raised. Hi to the rest of you. Freda |
When I was a child in the 1950s, the bathing suit for the mature figure
was-boned, trussed and reinforced, not so much sewn as engineered. They were built to hold back and uplift, and they did a good job. Today's stretch fabrics are designed for the prepubescent girl with a figure carved from a potato chip. The mature woman has a choice, she can either go up front to the maternity department and try on a floral suit with a skirt, coming away looking like a hippopotamus that escaped from Disney's Fantasia, or she can wander around every run-of-the-mill department store trying to make a sensible choice from what amounts to a designer range of fluorescent rubber bands. What choice did I have? I wandered around, made my sensible choice and entered the chamber of horrors known as the fitting room. The first thing I noticed was the extraordinary tensile strength of the stretch material. The Lycra used in bathing costumes was developed, I believe, by NASA to launch small rockets from a slingshot, which gives the added bonus that if you manage to actually lever yourself into one, you would be protected from shark attacks. Any shark taking a swipe at your passing midriff would immediately suffer whiplash. I fought my way into the bathing suit, but as I twanged the shoulder strap in place I gasped in horror, my boobs had disappeared! Eventually, I found one boob cowering under my left armpit. It took a while to find the other. At last I located it flattened beside my seventh rib. The problem is that modern bathing suits have no bra cups. The mature woman is now meant to wear her boobs spread across her chest like a speed bump. I realigned my speed bump and lurched toward the mirror to take a full view assessment. The bathing suit fit all right, but unfortunately it only fitted those bits of me willing to stay inside it. The rest of me oozed out rebelliously from top, bottom and sides. I looked like a lump of Playdoh wearing undersized cling wrap. As I tried to work out where all those extra bits had come from, the prepubescent sales girl popped her head through the curtain, "Oh, there you are," she said, admiring the bathing suit. I replied that I wasn't so sure and asked what else she had to show me. I tried on a cream crinkled one that made me look like a lump of masking tape, and a floral two-piece that gave the appearance of an oversized napkin in a serving ring. I struggled into a pair of leopard-skin bathers with ragged frills and came out looking like Tarzan's Jane, pregnant with triplets and having a rough day. I tried on a black number with a midriff fringe and looked like a jellyfish in mourning. I tried on a bright pink pair with such a high cut leg I thought I would have to wax my eyebrows to wear them. Finally, I found a suit that fit, it was a two-piece affair with a shorts-style bottom and a loose blouse-type top. It was cheap, comfortable, and bulge-friendly, so I bought it. My ridiculous search had a successful outcome, I figured. When I got it home, I found a label that read, "Material might become transparent in water." So, if you happen to be on the beach or near any other body of water this year and I'm there too, I'll be the one in cut-off jeans and a T-shirt! You'd better be laughing or rolling on the floor by this time. Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain, with or without a stylish bathing suit! |

I just got home from the tea, it went well. I phoned ahead so the aides would have her ready. My dd went with, see picture.
KarenMo...I'll be in cutoffs too. We (dh & me) loved all the clear photos you emailed, I love looking at old pictures. |
Karen Thankyou thankyou and thankyou, that made my day  rosey

Donna, I’m so glad G/M is doing so well. Her BP is fabulous. Sabrino is just sharing his good fortune with his cronies, telling the neighborhood kitties that he found a soft touch. Glad your hand has healed completely. And  at the MILFH acronym.
Carol Sue, great idea on the trike idea. They make awesome adult trikes and they look comfy!!! I cannot believe your DH (and I use the D sparingly in this case) wouldn’t pedal. Tandems are a great way to bike. You can chat so easily. And yes, just searching for an image pulls all the files together and then you can have them in handy little thumbnails to see all the images easily to find what you’re looking for. Easy peasy. Isabella, I’m so sorry for the loss of your BIL. I know you will be a great support for your SIL and we’re here to support you. Deelee, where to you find coconut water? I’ve bought coconut milk but have never seen the water. I have exercise leg and foot cramping and am currently chomping one Blizzie’s banana chips (for her leg cramps). They are HIGH in calories. Rosey, at the idea of TWO crankypants keeping each other company! Bet they’re having quite the whine fest. Did you send cheese with your crankypants? Double :carrot: on walking in the store with your cane. You are such an inspiration. as you say goodbye to your friend. Good luck, Debbie, on starting your new day. Mary, I hope your DH starts to feel better. At least the dr is taking your DH’s problem seriously since your doctor didn’t seem to take your concerns about yourself very seriously. Lynn, enjoy your pretty day! Bobbi, good luck with the wicked witch. At least you have your daughter to help ease the blows. Yay Gayle on eradicating a funk with getting up and moving around. I swear exercise keeps my mood lifted. Freda, work treats left everywhere sometimes are the hardest. You, however, did great! You had the housekeeping flubber and you still resisted. I think I would have caved. Karen, I find bra shopping more irritating than swimsuit shopping. I am only in the suit a couple hours at the most. The bra needs to lift the girls and be comfy. A hard assignment indeed. But I did love all the visuals. Yesterday, DH and I went for a tandem ride and it was going great. We planned to turn around at 5 miles. My got the nastiest cramp right beneath the back of my knee. I thought I’d been shot. Walked it out while cursing like a sailor, thinking my Mom’s Day plan of a LONG ride was shot. Then we had to ride back. Wowza was my leg mad by the time we got back. I put a heating pad on it and now it is pretty good. We went for a hike with the doggies in the mountains. So I have hope tomorrow’s ride isn’t ruined. My DD sent me a pineapple tree/houseplant for Mom’s Day. It’s awesome. Small 6” pineapples. She knows how obsessed I am with pineapples. DS and DIL gave me an orchid with loads of flowers. Absolutely gorgeous. So I realized, I have a tropics house. Pineapple, orchids, kona coffee plants, lemon trees and orange trees. Pretty cool since I live in the desert. Marie |
I haven't bought a swim suit in years although I have a few that I would never put on where anyone else could see me. They have made great strides in full figure suits, but most of the ones I have seen that would really be good for an older out of shape woman were in catalogs. They might have some nice ones in Lane Bryant but I never shop there. I am somewhere in between the largest regular size and the smallest full figure size, trying very hard not to graduate! LOL
Happy Mother's Day everyone! |
Happy Mother's Day to everyone!! Enjoy this Beautiful Day!!!

I have had open heart surgery and at least 3 other heart events requiring a stent. One was 4 months after having a good stress test. None were considered a heart attack, although I had symptoms. Never have I had a chest pain. I have had shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, and my main symptom has been pain in my jaw on the left side. It wasn't severe pain, just there and caused me to reach up and rub my jaw in an effort to relieve it. Not everyone has chest pains, and they can be caused by something else. Be sure you are aware of the subtle signs of a heart attack, and never hesitate to get checked out. It's better to go to the ER and be told that you have indigestion than to wait and have a heart attack. If you call an ambulance, they EMT can check your vitals and will recommend whether you need to go to the hospital.

The Mother's Day "Chopped" Event
My meal = appetizer My ingredients – shrimp, crab, guava, Japanese Panko flakes, wheat berries My son-in-law’s meal = entrée His ingredients – steak, sour cream onion dip, squash, frosted flakes, wheat berries My daughter’s meal = dessert Her ingredients – refrigerator biscuit dough, kiwi, mascarpone cheese, cocktail hot dogs, wheat berries Anyone want to guess what we made? Lynn |
Hi everyone. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY :cheer2::encore::cheer2: i hope your day is awsome filled with the ones you love. lynn that chopped dinner sounds like such fun so what did you all cook and did it taste good? i'm spending a quiet day and later we are going to visit my mil. yesterday wore me out,it was bitter sweet, heartwarming to see my friends family and friends gathered to honor her.it was anice service, filled with laughter and tears. i managed pretty well and was glad to have my girls with me. and oh my gosh was there alot of food. my friend was famous for her partys and lavish spreads and we did her proud. one of her girls brought me a big bouquet of flowers last evening. i find im tiring quicker with the walking with a cane. a bit wobbly and thinking every step so i dont fall. im glad to take it easy today. rosey
|
Rosey, that was so sweet of your friend's daughter to bring you flowers. Just shows how wonderful we all know you to be.
DH and I went to the other side of the mountain and went on our Mom's Day adventure. We tandem biked 35 miles. Pure gooey, tired legs today but it felt so good to have my life back. Tomorrow is 10 weeks post op and I've never biked over 35 miles so I'm pleased. I received a cool pineapple houseplant that has a 6" pineapple on it from my daughter and a beautiful orchid from my son and DIL. Chatted with my parents and as they repeated (and repeated) the surgery schedule for my dad later this week, I thought of all wonderful chicks that handle so much dementia with a smile. I wanted to screech. Instead and rolled my eyes and the such since we were on the phone and they couldn't tell. The up side of the surgery and preceding appts this week is that I didn't hear about their weather over and over again. For that, I was thankful. And please know, I really do care about the surgery and have my worries but it would ahve been nice to talk about something else. But alas, my parents talk about the weather and medical issues. And that's it. In a way, it does make me chuckle since they complained about my grandfather doing that. Marie |

Glad you all had a nice mother's day. I, of course, spent the day attending my BIL's funeral and time with the family. It would have been really nice if it hadn't been a funeral. One of my other SILs and I stationed ourselves in the kitchen and helped get the food on the table. That's what she and I do. We make and serve food, lol. I ate too much...sigh...
Lynn, I'm going to take a stab at your Chopped menu. You all must have had such fun. Appetizer: Breaded and baked/fried seafood served over a wheat berry salad with a guava based dressing/dip Entree: Chicken fried steak using the Frosted Flakes as the breading, squash casserole made with the sour cream onion dip and a wheat berry pilaf Dessert: A danish style pasty filled with a sweetened mascarpone filling and a sweet wheat berry pudding garnished with candied cocktail hot dogs, lol I've got a lot of cycling to do this week to counteract the weekend but I'll probably only do what I usually do. DH took his bereavement day today and we went shopping. I bought a Shark floor steamer because I've heard so many good comments about them. Gotta run. Catch you all later. |

Hi Isabella, Almost exactly! I added garlic to the seafood, and mandarin oranges and honey and raisins to the wheat berry salad. My son-in-law put crunched frosted flakes on the squash (delicious) and made his wheat berries savory with onions, tomatoes, and garlic salt. My daughter had the most trouble - the kiwi curdled her mascarpone cheese so she had to start over. She put the wheat berries, kiwi, and apples in the pastry & covered with a sweet mascarpone sauce. She sprinkled the carmelized hot dogs (NOT delicious) over the pastry. Without the hot dogs, was pretty good. My favorite part of Chopped is trying to figure out what I would do with the ingredients. I think it is interesting that you guessed so close to what the 3 of us did. Lynn |

Hoping your day is filled with sunshine rosey

It was a LOT of fun. My DD & SIL selected my ingredients; I & my DD selected my SIL's ingredients; and my SIL and I selected my DD's ingredients. We then each had 1 hour to make our course & whoever cooked had to clean up. I would definitely do this again. Lynn |
Been busy last couple days and tired later in the day so that's why I haven't posted. Had a lovely Mother's Day and felt very pampered as my dh gave me a corsage and after church we went to our dd's house. My sil had flowers and a $50 GC for me to my surprise! Our dd served a great dinner and we celebrated not only Mother's Day but her birthday which was actually today but her dh had to go out of town today. On the way home we stopped and visited an old friend in the hospital. Today we met our (and gc) at a restaurant for her birthday lunch. We had a nice time. Afterwards we went to the bx for a few things and planned to get my military ID as I lost it with the wallet I mentioned losing?/misplacing? a while back. Had to get a new SS card too. Anyway the office was no longer on base as the city has moved some of the military offices to a different site so we had to find the right place which happens to be not far from where we lived but we didn't know that. So we did a lot of running around and it was hot. Thank God our new car has AC but it was still tiring. By the time we were done there I was exhausted. I didn't get much housework done...cleaned bathrooms a little bit and stripped bed and did two loads of laundry...that's it. Still have to remake the bed and finish one load of laundry. Since we had a big meal at lunch we just snacked tonight. Hopefully I will manage to empty/fill the dishwasher before bed. Not sure the way I'm feeling.
On Sat I called tech support about the color fading in and out on my computer. Wasn't sure if it was a monitor problem or computer problem but it's been happening since about three or four months after I got the computer. Unfortunately I didn't keep after them about it. I called a couple times, thought they got it fixed and then shortly after it messed up again and I just lived with it. Now I am out of warranty. In the process of troubleshooting we shut down the computer and it wouldn't restart! They called Dell and they think it is the motherboard. So I had to pay $200 for the motherboard and I'm waiting for it to arrive, they said 3-5 days. I'm glad I have my iPad and phone but I sure miss my desktop! They think the motherboard was going out and it as affecting the color and the printer (it stopped working a couple days ago too). So that's why my sil gave me the Best Buy GC to help me pay for the GeekSquad installing it. What a nice sil I have! :D Lynn - Your Chopped Challenge sounds like fun! Isabella - I'm amazed how well you did guess how the ingredients were used! Rosey - How nice you got flowers too! You are a good mommy to help your dd by doing her laundry. I kind of enjoy doing laundry too, esp the folding of nice clean, warm clothes! Yes I can imagine you tire more using the cane. Hopefully you will build up your strength in time. Just do it for short times, very gradually increasing as you can, but rest between and don't overdo is my advice. Marie - Your energy amazes me. I don't have nearly your energy. I realize I'm quite a bit older than you but sometimes I think I wear our faster than my dh who is eight years older than I even. Well I need to get the bed remade before I forget and it's time for bed. You all have a good evening. I plan to sleep very good tonight. :D |
Good Morning...what a beautiful day in Minnesota.
Today our taxes are due and we won't have the complete amount until tomorrow when Social Security check comes. I called to see if they had a grace period, Nope. She said to take it to the post office today and make sure it's stamped the 15th and I'll be okay. I'm not sure how banking works, if the check gets cashed tomorrow before the social security gets wired into our account, will I still be safe? Our Visa bill came yesterday and would you believe it was only $136.59? Geeeeeeeeez, what a difference from last months of $1968.59. I think paying cash for everything gave us a huge wake up call. Lynn...I love the chopped idea, do you watch the chopped programs on tv? How did you come up with the idea to compete and is this going to be a monthly challenge? I wish my family could do something like that, but everyone is busy working. (I'm the only one that retired early) Marie...things went well, thanks for asking. (wicked witch MIL) I thought she was going to bite my head off when I went in to get her. She was just getting off the toilet, pulled her dress down, then started walking out the door. I said you forgot to wash your hands. She said quite loudly, WHAT? I repeated the hand washing bit and she said oh, I thought you told me to take a shower. I don't like her ever touching me because she always forgets to wash her hands. Before she was diagnosed with dementia, she wouldn't have dreamed of not washing her hands after using the bathroom. I think I'd rather died of some dreaded disease than lose my memory. Mary...sorry about your computer, but what would we do without them. I sure couldn't afford a new one a few months ago when mine crashed but I think I'd go without food first. Rosey...enjoy yourself today, will you have to climb bleachers for the graduation? Those are hard for me to climb unless they have a hand rail. Isabella...I heard again on the news one of the top names for new babies...Isabella. How vogue you are. I'm out of time and need to stop back later to gab. At 9:00 I listen to Dr. Jeremiah 25 minute sermon while I paint on my face and do my hair. I need to get a quick load of clothes in the washer first...........later gators. K3...all my myer lemons have fallen off but one. I finally put the whole plant outside, I don't think it was getting it's 6 hours required sunshine. |
It sounds like everyone had a nice Mother's Day. Mine was nice. Both step children came and gave me a card and gift. It's nice that they do that. Their mother passed away 20 years ago, and I did raise them from preteen age. I didn't serve dinner, but had meatball sandwiches and potato salad and they ate when they felt hungry. Not a big deal.
Bobbi - I think SS checks are entered at the opening of the business day so you should be ok. |
Good Morning GG's
It's a beautiful day here too Bobbi. Sunny and not too cold. It got pretty warm yesterday and then turned cooler in the evening. I had a tract meet to go to and then a soccer game. I wore long pants and looked kind of out of place for the tract meet, but sure felt good at the soccer game. Mother day was nice. The kids came over and we went to the park and played ball and then went for ice cream. I had frozen yogurt, a small cone. Not bad. I also bought myself some cheap chocolates, Just he boxed morley creams. I love them and they are not toobad calorie wise. I have one a day. It's perfect with my cup of tea in the adternoon. I look forward to it and it soothes my craving for chocolate. Rosie, Have fun at your GS's graduation. They grow so fast. One min the are little boys and the next min. they are grown. Bobbi, Glad you got a handle on the finances thing. Is DH still behaving himself? I think if you call the bank you can request that they put the money into your account right away. Otherwise, I think it takes 3 days, which will still give you plenty of time. Your check isn't going to be deposited for awhile. Marie, going for my first bike ride of the season today, with my DGD. Looking forward to it. It will NOT be 35 miles! ha! Not sure I could manage that. No, not right. I know I couldn't manage that, and I haven't had surgery. Lynn, The chopped sounds like fun. But hotdogs? They just don't go with much and had to be a real challenge. Mary, Glad you had fun with your kids for Mothers day. Isabella, Good guess. Carol Sue, When you raise kids, they are yours. Donna, are you working too hard? Stop that! Rie, are you home yet? Hope you had a good time. Karen, are you feeling better? Go out and make it a good day, Freda |
Hi Everyone,
A VERY rainy day here today. Bobbi, yes - we watch Chopped on TV. I really appreciated it that my DD & SIL were willing to play. Tomorrow the 3 of us are going to a nearby museum - it has an exhibit of art from the Uffizi Museum in Italy. No special plans today - just working on class stuff & condo association stuff. Nothing fun. Lynn |
Mary, big bummer on your computer! I'm glad you have the GC for the motherboard installation. I don't like doing that type of stuff. I make DH do it (since he went to school for computer repair and we had to pay for something he didn't like and decided not to make a career of). When push comes to shove, I do it but I'd rather he do it. At some point I figure we'll break even on the school cost.
Bobbi, way to go on the lowered VISA bill. All banks process deposits and withdrawals differently. I had a credit union that chose to take out the withdrawals on a day first, then the deposits. That was a nasty practice. I now have BoA and they always put the deposits in first, then the withdrawals. So call your bank. And if your SS check is direct deposited, you really should be fine. Freda, enjoy your bike ride today. I bet you have fun. Just no sandals on the bike. I bet you have a great time with your DGD! Lynn, enjoy your museum visit tomorrow. I'm not a museum person as I look then want to go. I've never been able to stand and admire for any length of time. Mostly because I'm very visual and sort of take a snapshot of what I see and I can keep seeing it. No big plans for my day. It is sunny and beautiful. We're now having the most lovely spring. Last year we couldn't swim in our pool until June 30th because of La Nina. This year, I've been swimming 3 times and the water is 84 degrees. It is wonderful. So after my elliptical workout this afternoon (after the dentist - yuck) I'm going to gork in the pool. Marie |

Hello Gals. Just got our satellite tv installed today and I'm not sure I like it. But now it's in it's staying. I guess it's just a matter of getting used to the different screen display and remote control. I haven't figured out how to use the volume button yet and have been adjusting using the volume on the tv. DSs will be here the weekend and I may just wait until then or maybe I'll read the manual. We have the cheapest package and that doesn't give us much to watch but DH usually sticks to a couple of channels, except when he's channel surfing (which drives me crazy). I don't have the food network or TLC or any of the movie channels. I guess I'll be more productive with my time.
Marie, swimming is definitely is not on the plan around here, burrrr.... It won't be warm enough until sometime in the middle of June or early July unless you're a brave sort of polar bear swimmer. Oh my, I just hit the wrong button and posted, lol. I'm in edit finishing this post. :o Bobbi, Isabella was my grandmother's name and her grandmother's name so guess what I may have to insist my first granddaughter be named? LOL I may not have much say on that one. Now, I'm relying on memory and I'm drawing a blank even though I just read all the posts just a few minutes ago...think, think, think, think, think...nothing... I remember Mary, Lynn, Freda and Rosey posted also but I'm drawing a blank on anyone else or what was said. Oh, yes, Mary needs a new mother board and had a nice mother's day and so did Carol Sue. I guess so did the rest of you. No one will ever accuse me of having a photographic memory! The sun is shining and it's almost warm. The grass is green and the leaves are starting to burst forth. It's the best time of the year. I love that spring green. Well, I'm gone to recover my memory. Have a good day. |

I love going to museums, but I do NOT like to take a lot of time at one thing. My family teases me because I go through them so quickly. I don't really know a lot about art, so I really like it when someone who does explains things to me. I am NOT at all visual - totally auditory. I could NEVER be one of those persons who works with a police artist. I would recognize a voice in a minute, but not a photo. Lynn |
Hi Golden Chicks -
Just got back from visiting DS in D.C. last night. Had a great time but I got so sad when we were leaving. Better now - getting busy helps and increasing the meds too - I'm not kidding! I have to get caught up on the posts but when I saw that Marie had exercise cramping I wanted to get back to her right away. When I first bought coconut water I found it in health food stores and Whole Foods. This was almost a year ago. Now I have seen it in a few grocery stores and Walgreens, I think. They are starting to put it in some sports drinks. My husband drinks 5 or 6 ounces before strenuous exercise and about the same amount afterwards. I don't remember the exact comparison but it supposedly has more potassium than 5 bananas? not sure how many but more than you would want to eat. He is not one to take pills or vitamins so I don't know if a pill form of potassium would be as effective. Hope it helps. I'll be back later. |
Quick hola....
You're not abandoned! It just seems that there's less time or more to do or something!... anyway, I'm here. You all sound upright and at least fairly functional, which is good! Later, lovelies! |
Good Morning, never did get back yesterday to gab. I spent a few hours outside weeding. I haven't purchased any annual flowers yet this year, will do later today. We have a city wide rummage sale on Saturday. DH and I are bringing our left-over rummage sale stuff into town and set up in the park. Hope the weather is nice, suppose to be rainy.
Carol Sue, right you are. It was a direct deposit of DH's social security check. I logged unto my bank this morning and it's already deposited. We're safe! Quote:
I left a large venison roast out on the counter to thaw out last night, was going to refrigerate it at bedtime. I forgot about it, DH stuck it in the refrig at 6 this morning. He said to cook it well and we should be okay. Geeeeeeeeeeez, I don't know if I dare eat it, would it be a terrible thing if I let him eat it first? :D If he doesn't double over with stomach cramps, I'll try some. It was a large roast and frozen, it might not have been thawed out all that long. Time will tell, until then.............:kickcan::kickcan::kickcan: |
Bobbi - your roast should be okay to eat. It doesn't sound like it was out that long... and it's a good idea to let DH try it first. Check on his life insurance first, though! (LOL?) (ha!)
Doing laundry and other domestic drudgery. NO TIME anymore! I don't know what's happened! Sabrino seems to have disappeared. CK - your SIL's stray cat with the missing tail (seems to be a connection here) also disappeared, remember? Probably they ARE the same cat... Onward to Domestic Goddesshood! Bah... |
Bobbi - I would not be as disciplined as you are, deducting part of the bill each month so the money will be in the account. I (and dh) would know that the money was actually in the account even though the checkbook balance didn't show it. Instead, I have a savings account connected to my checking account. I can go to the ATM and transfer money back and forth. If I want to set money aside for something, each month I transfer part of the money into savings and when it comes time to pay the bill, transfer it back into checking. It's the same concept, and we do know the money is there, but not seeing it in the checking account balance when we go to the ATM makes it easier to forget it's there.
Deelee and Marie - Be careful about taking potassium or something that is supplemented with potassium. Be sure the cramping you're having is from lack of potassium, because if not, too much potassium can be harmful. Maryea - I am sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your computer, especially since you had trouble from the beginning and wasn't able to get it fixed during the warranty period. We are having problems with our computer but DH doesn't trust computer techs. (Sorry Marie! LOL) He always says it's better to just buy a new computer. He's saying the same thing about our car. It's having a problem and he wants to just get a new one. He thinks we have an ATM in our backyard. Just put your card in, and money comes out! LOL |
I am making city chicken for dinner. I haven't made that for years. I had to get our my recipe to remember how to make it. I like it, but dh doesn't. Finally he told me he would eat it if I made it with veal instead of pork. I like it with veal or pork, so I bought some of each. It is breaded and ready to go and resting in the refrigerator. I am curious to see how it turns out. DH might just be making a run to McDonald's. LOL He is such a picky eater. I am so tired of making the same 4-5 meals over and over. He was never this bad before. So many things I used to make he won't eat anymore. I think he ate those other things so that the kids would eat them. Now that they are out of the house, he has limited his food choices. I will eat just about anything and I like to try new things. If I could do it over I would have wanted to marry one of those guys who will eat whatever you put in front of them as long as they have something to eat.
When my step children were growing up, I used to buy big cans of Chunky Soup and pour it over rice or noodles. They loved it, and I thought I made it up. Now, Campbells is advertising that on TV for a quick, inexpensive meal. They stole my idea. |
Haven't gotten to the gym yet. Not sure I will. Dh went to his mens early am meeting at church. I'm glad he enjoys it but I would have a very hard time going anywhere that early in the am!! He sleeps in the recliner after he gets home and then wben I wake up we usually go to the gym but this am he said he's still too tired so he went back to bed. I'm trying to catch up with things around here as I haven't done much at home for several days. It's a beautiful day and I'm enjoying it. Got more bad news about the motherboard...it's now on back order and won't be sent until the 22nd. That feels like a long time to do without my computer. My life is on it! I have a app for my budget program (YNAB) on my phone and ipad but not the complete program. I can enter transactions but they are not yet connected to the Cloud so I have to sync with my desktop program and I hadn't done that recently so the app is off. So I'm just entering transactions....you know how I feel about my budget so I sorta feel like I'm spending with blinders on. Speaking of spending, Joe had his hearing tested again yesterday and sure enough he is now ready for hearing aides. I had a feeling he was the way his hearing seemed to be worsening. So they will cost $3500-$5000. Since they can wait a bit I'll start pushing bits of money toward that category in our budget now. Just means not as much can go toward travel but it's important. I offered to cancel our fall trip but he feels I need to see my family. We also have another trip planned for later on but don't think it will cost much.
About my computer again...I'm going to call Best Buy in a little bit and find out if the Gook Squad will cover the cost of the motherboard itself. If they will, I may just buy their $279.99 service agreement and have them install it. I already know that will cover the installation and if it also covers the motherboard too it would be a good deal since I will also be covered for two years on other stuff. I can cancel the order from Dell and get my $$$ back. Slmn11 - My dh used to eat anything I set before him but as he gets older he is more picky. He is Filipino and although he still likes some American food he tends to want to eat Filipino food more and more. I'm ashamed I haven't fixed it more for him through the years ...I did some but not often enough. It wasn't til I was older that I thought about how I'd like it if I had to eat another type food that wasn't what I really wanted almost every day. But he never complained til the last few years. At least we have always eaten a lot of Asian type dishes, and he likes them. Now I try to also prepare a Filipino dish at least once or twice a month and sometimes weekly and regardless of what I fix I try to make sure we don't have many meals without rice in a row. It makes me feel badly when he doesn't like what I cook. Sounds like your dh has a money tree in the back yard! Perhaps he hasn't told you about it? ;) My dh suggested maybe it would be just as cheap to buy a new computer but I don't think so, not one I want anyway. If I can do it for less than $300 at least and if the motherboard fixes it. If it doesn't I won't be happy about what I did. I'm going to have them test it with another monitor at their shop and make sure before they do the work but I'll probably have to pay for the service plan before that and not sure if I can get my money back. Will ask about that too. Bobbi - Sounds like your dh is beginning to get it. We all need a wake-up call at some point I think. My dh has always depended on me to do the budgeting but he is very frugal and almost always asks me before he spends much. One exception, many years ago he bought an over-the-pickup camper without asking me. He had mentioned it, just never said he was buying it. But we managed and enjoyed it. Recently since we've been doing well on our budget, I've actually felt I had to tell him he can loosen up a bit and spend more. I mean he's 77 if he doesn't buy what he wants now (within reason/budget), when will he? So he spends a bit more freely but still doesn't go overboard and still usually asks about the budget first. Marie - The gc will help with the computer expense so I am grateful. I wish dh knew how to work on computers. I'm sure he'd be quick learner if someone taught him, but I can't and I don't want him fumbling around in there not really knowing what he's doing. He's very handy with most things but dosn't know anything about computers. If my oldest gs were here I'd have him do it but he's away at college. Well it's finally time to call Best Buy (don't open until 10 am!). Let you know what happens. I SO miss my desktop! |
Well, things have changed. Called Best Buy and they will have to ship it out to fix plus hardware would not be covered under the Geek Squad agreement. Called a local tech and he said it's not worth doing as my computer is now only worth about $125. He does not sell computers so wasn't pushing anything. Very nice guy and helped me understand a lot. He said often when they do install a motherboard it doesn't fix the problem as they find other things wrong. I would definitely go to him for smaller repairs. So guess we're going computer shopping today..love a new computer but it's bittersweet as we need the money for other things. We will start at Best Buy...I don't care for that store but I do have the GC to help out, but I will also check other places too. Have to get ready to go out. Talk later again if I have time.
ETA: My printer is also not working! It's old so probably not worth fixing too. |
Isabella, I am definitely not a polar bear swimmer. The water had to be 80 before I'd jump in. I much prefer it at 84 so I don't have to swim so hard to stay warm. BTW, I was a channel surfer and drove my DH nuts. Now, without cable or satellite, that habit stopped as I don't turn the tV on. But I do channel surf in the car. I just can't help myself. Perhaps your DH is ADD like me.
Lynn, sounds like I could go to a museum with you. I love seeing the stuff, but then I want to be on to the next one. And at a speedwalk pace. On art, I don't know if I'd like having art explained to me. I'm the type to make my own impression and leave it at that. If it has to be explained, I think I'd only want the artist herself/himself to do it so I can understand why they created what they did. Other's guesses wouldn't make a difference to me. Deelee, I saw the coconut water in the natural food section of our grocer. It was EXPENSIVE. So I decided I could do without. I did buy potassium supplements. I'm hopeful that will help. And raising my bike seat as I think it was a hair too low and my triathlete friend says where I got the cramp would be a sign of the bike seat too low. Hi Donna!!!! Bummer on Sabrino disappearing. Just when you were getting SamCat to eat out of jealousy. Bobbi, I bet there was still plenty of frost in the meat if you took it out yesterday evening and DH put it in the fridge. My guess is it will be safe. No different than taking it out in the morning and cooking it in the evening. And Donna is so right - have DH taste it first. Eat all your veges and side first and see how he does... Carol Sue, you dound just like me on the too much potassium can be harmful - that's what I told DH last night when he looked at the bottle and said it hardly had any potassium in it. BTW, I'd know the money is in the account and would play games with the money. I transfer the money to my ING account where its harder to get at. They have no problem with several deposits a month. You'd like my DH because he's the human garbage disposal. He'll eat anything and never complain. Mary, good luck on the geek squad idea. Perhaps the motherboard is on backorder because they were shoddily made. I admit I despise Dell because they aren't reliable computers, both their business and commercial lines. My DH never has to work on computers anymore because we only have Apples. Only thing we've done to either of our Apples is to install more memory on my previous Macbook. It was easy and I did it. Not much happening other than working a bit. The weather is lovely but is suppose to dis-improve over the next few days. That's a bummer. Kodiak had a birthday yesterday. My boy-o is now a decade old. He thinks he's a toddler and acts like one. The pack had cake and ice cream on their dinner nuggets. They liked it but it pretty much made the ice cream and cake disgusting looking. Even I could pass that dessert up. Marie |
Mary, get a Mac and their 3 year service agreement and you will be set for at least three years. Also, I noticed that if a computer goes to that 3 year mark, it will never die. My DS had to send his Mac in for repair and everything was covered. No additional money spent. Also, if you're Windows bent, look at the HP business models. You can get them brand new and inexpensive on Ebay.
