Bobbi - I went to the kindlenation site that Mary recommended for free Kindle downloads... and there are some, um, like, racy books on there. I downloaded one of them, not even very good porn!, and then couldn't get RID of it!! I did discover that the book title has to be in first position in the queue before it can be deleted. Such fun! I found a book on her Gutenberg site about Elizabeth Packard and her trials and tribulations during the years when women were very much the property of their husbands; her preacher husband had her put into an asylum for disagreeing with him about Calvinism! He just had to say she was (obviously!) insane and away she went. Anyway, it's pretty interesting.
I'm having lunch with a long lost buddy and am looking forward. Since it's a holiday, I did some domestic drudgery yesterday and, by that plan, don't have to do any again until July 4th.
Later, lovelies! Have a safe day, and enjoy the bbq!
Hi everyone. its a beautiful day here but cold. we just got back from a picnic lunch by the kenai river beach, dh the dogs and I eating a kids burger and watching the waves. we saw 2 kyakers load their dog and push out into the river, the dog was sitting on the front of the kyak. also saw a few seals and lots of birds. then went to the memorial service in kenai. today i honor my dad and fil. both served in ww2. my dad flew p38 fighter's over italy and flew escort for the yalta conference, and steves dad was a navigator in a b24 bomber and was shot down and spent 18 months in a german prison camp. they and all the others that served in wars fighting for our freedom deserve our gratitude. hoping your weekends a good one rosey
Hi everyone. Just popping in for a quick chat. I've been pretty busy in the yard this past week and it's starting to look like I have flower beds again, lol. DH and I went to our youngest DS's place yesterday and did a bit of shopping. Then it was back home again. Last week's gorgeous warm weather has disappeared and it's cold again. We had ice pellets coming down today but changed to rain. It was intermittent with sun and showers all day and cold. Not supposed to warm up until the weekend.
Someone asked if I was baking any cakes for church. No. I'm baking a birthday cake for my SIL. She'll be 55 tomorrow and her DH, my BIL asked me to make one for him to give to her. So we're all headed to their place tomorrow night for a slice of cake. I'll be reserving a few calories for tomorrow night.
I finally have pictures of my "new" kitchen and will try and post them this week. Hopefully, I'll get the backsplash this summer when we are in the city.
Sounds like everyone had a nice holiday weekend.
I'll try and get back tomorrow but may not as my schedule it is going to be jam packed. This is a busy week for me as I'll be at the Goodwill Centre for part of it.
I've been trying to type a post all day but soon get distracted from it. I cleaned house this morning why the guys went swimming. This after noon I made Lumpia and all three of us participated in the rolling of them. I was disappointed though...meat mixture tasted fine to me until after I fried them in the wrappers but then they tasted too salty. I don't think I added any salt before just a little soy sauce but this time I followed a reciple and never thought about it.
Trying to think of things for our gs to do...he put away silverware and helped fold laundry for me and he learned to mow the lawn and used the blower on the patio this afternoon. If we don't keep him busy he's always watching or making videos on little computer thingy or else he gets really hyper. He's a lot better than he used to be but his mom said to put him to work even though from what I've seen and heard he doesn't do much at home.
Jess- I guess Kindle for PC is different. On my Kindle device, I just underline the book I want to delete and left click and it's gone. It probably stays on my online digital account though as Amarantha said..haven't checked that. Glad you found some "interesting" books to read, Donna, even if not exactly what you were looking for? I didn't mean to lead you astray..
Slmn11 - I love my Kindle for any kind of reading, however I can't read in the dark. Sunlight is fine. I don't care for reading in bed so it's ok. If I wanted to read in the dark, I'd choose a Nook or anything that is backlit...I think Kindle Fire is probably.
Lily - Sounds like you are really getting your kitchen fixed up nicely! I used to have a gas range and loved it. I have a electric one now and don't like it as well, so think my next one will be gas. We already have a gas furnace and a gas connection so will be easy. I like Charlie Pride too and the Chinese Buffet sounds yummy. Glad you had a nice evening and your dh sounds like a keeper!
Slim - I read to our sons at 12 too and they loved it. But I think our gs is just too into electronics now. He has this little computer thingy and is always watching videos and movies (streamed from Netflix) and he also creates his own videos and puts them on youtube. He is very good on the keyboard now too and can remember tunes and also writes his own. He's in a rap group at home and has performed publicly once. He usually falls asleep either on the floor watching videos/movies/TV or as soon as he gets to bed. Doesn't seem interested in me reading to him. When dh and I have our couple devotions though he likes to come in and listen which kinda surprised me.
Forgot to tell you about a strange thing that happened to us last night. Someone rang the door bell three times with about 15 min between. So we'd get up, look out, no one there, and go back to bed and it'd happen again. Very irritating esp when you never know...not long ago one of our neighbor's woke up to find a stranger in the house just walking around. He ran when the neighbor got up. Our doors were all locked, windows locked and also have an alarm system but still had to get up to make sure all was well. Probably just kids pranking us I guess and they didn't do any damage, but I told dh if they rang it again, I was calling 911. He said by the time the cops get here, they will be gone but I thought perhaps when they saw the police car in the area it might make them give it up at least. First time anything like that has ever happened and we've lived here 35 years.
I had a fabulous work-out yesterday, spent many hours outside with my pedometer on. (9,000 + steps) I took it off after supper when I showered, probably made 10,000. We had a couple bald spots in the shade garden where last years plants died. We had no snow last winter and I think the plants didn't have enough protection. I divided a bunch of Hosta's and re-planted them. I'll post picture some other day, right now I have to get some hummingbird feed juice going, then out to clean the shed. DH puts out mice poison and glue traps in one of the sheds year around, they love it in there. Come spring I usually find a bunch of dead mice and a few live one. Thought I rid the shed of them this spring, nope. Yesterday while digging out some tools, one jumped out at me. YIKES So my mission today is to drag everything out and fumigate it. They like to burrow into the extra bag of mulch and dirt to make nest. I'll pull out all the bags and store them behind the shed from now on.
Lynn....Hope you're feeling better today.

I am out of commission for a while - a UTI and antibiotics are making me miserable.
Mary...I looked up Lumpia and see it's something I'd love. I have a recipe for baked egg rolls with the same ingredients and won ton skins. We really love them, Lumpia is just a Filipino version of the chinese egg rolls. What do you put on yours Mary? I love plum sauce but DH prefers mustard sauce. Darn, now I'm hungry for them. I know fried taste better but baking them comes close.
Rosey...they had a tribute to all the fallen arm forces last night on tv and made me want to cry. My dad didn't get called during WW2 because he already had too many kids. Did your dad or fil have stories to tell? My brother was in Viet Nam and he never, ever talked about it. It messed with his mind when he returned. He worked thru it on his own and left it behind finally. He was Navy and they didn't see close battle, many floating dead bodies tho.
KarenMo...we finally got the video open of the 56' chevy, that two tone color was pretty.
I need to get started on the mice palace...later gators.
Isabella...yes, post your pictures. I'd forgotten all about your new kitchen.
I have a presentation to the Commissioners meeting today and I am hosting a meeting with judges and other officials at noon. Busy day for the day after a holiday.... I guess it won't be a casual clothes day
Just a couple quick notes:
Mary, I have a friend who married a Filipino girl. They have a food truck business called, "Mia's Lumpia" it is wonderful!
Bobbi, I know that you are already out there cleaning out mouse heaven. I hope that you are careful. Do you all have hanta virus? It is really dangerous. Inhaling mouse droppings or dust can actually be fatal. My friend lost her brother after he contracted it cleaning out a barn. Despite what we did when we were younger.... we always wear masks when there is lots of mouse droppings. I don't even know if hanta is all over the country or just out here in the dry air.
Donna, lol on the naughty books. You just tickle me sometimes...
Sorry, I am just out of time here. I will try to get back tonight. Have a great day!
Hi all...I have an appt in 1/2 hour but stopped by to ask "who the heck is Beryll? We have had 9" of rain so far. Have the water sharks soaking up the lania....and the storm is actually off the Carolinas and pulling Gulf air up over us. Lost power for hours last night (thank goodness for my clip on light for kindle) Our rainy season starts Friday...early I guess!
Before anyone gets scared water sharks are tubes of fabric at absorb gallons of water. No Great White Shark swimming on my porch!!!!!!
Be back later and have so much to say about you chatty chicks...k3:sw im:
Yippee ~ a day off. It is sunny, I am in a good frame of mind, going to just enjoy. After I get the laundry in, gonna try out the chair dancing DVD.
Sara and Maddie were over Sunday night. I had some fish and invited Sara to share it with me (DH doesn’t like seafood ~ silly man ~ doesn’t know what he is missing). So, we had fish, jasmine rice and salad. Got to play with and hug on Maddie and give Sara some hairapy.
It was a fairly quiet weekend at work.
I think Easter grass grows in my family room ~ LOL. Maddie had it here at Easter time, but now ~ a few months later, I still keep finding a strand of it here and there. I pick it up and throw it out, and think I have finally got it all, then a few days/weeks later, there are a couple more strands.
I just did 30 minutes of my chair dancing DVD ~ it made my heart rate go up and my breathing a little hard ~ so I think it is something worthwhile. I am tired ~ I think it lasts for 60 minutes ~ I will have to work up to it I guess. It's a start anyway
wtg glynne thats so awsome. im going to have to look for that tape too. not to much going on here. did some house work and am now gorking.Bobbie, i get very patriotic and tearied eyed when i watch those on tv too. My dad and fil never talked about their experiences. esp my fil as he was in a german prison camp, ive seen pictures tho and have my dads war records and the missions he flew. there is a book called Finding Billy, thats about folks looking for there reative who was shot down over italy and his remains never found until a few yrs ago. he was my dads friend and my dads mentioned in the book. ive read it and i learned more of what war was from that. i also have a scrapbook that my paternal grandmother put together about my dads older brother who was shot down over tokyo and never recovered. it has the original telegrams.newspaper clippings etc in it. sad but also interesting and makes me proud of my heritage. when my girls where studying ww2 i sent the album with them for their class to look at. lynn so sry you feel like "POO" hope this helps Jess what naughty books i like them sometimes mr cranky pants is at his 1st physical therapy spt today. bet he will be sore after. ttfn and for all rosey
Hello ladies. I'm back from my camping trip. What a wonderful weekend it was. But.... The diet.....not so good but not too bad either. Today is weigh day and I have maintained for the first time. I'm really glad I didn't gain. Today I start back 100%. Hope every one had a good holiday. My dad was a veteran of WW and was commander of our local VFW. He believed in his country and loved the flag. We suddenly lost him 3 months ago. The holiday was with lots of bittersweet memories.
Karen I know how you feel. We lost our home 3 years ago to hurricane Gustav and are not looking forward to hurricane season which is a few days.
Glynne I would like to hear about this DVD
Our gs is gone. The house always seems too quiet after he leaves but then we gradually get used to the quiet and like it again. We stopped at Kohls and Costco on the way home from the airport. I bought a bunch of Yankee voltive candles in five different fragrances and a picture frame as I had a $10 coupon plus 15% off. Went to Costco to return some memory foam pillows we had bought and didn't like. Told the clerk we think we prefer our pillows with dementia rather than memory. She wasn't sure she heard me right at first but then had a good laugh. Silly me..
Glynne - Glad you're getting your exercise...yes, working up to it may be best. I'm probably going to need to do that too as I think I've missed at least two weeks at the gym....plan to start back tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it actually.
Bobbi- I used to have a friend who called Lumpia, Filipino burritos. They are never baked though...they are fried or served raw..what they call fresh lumpia. We love them and prefer the fried ones but rarely eat them because of the fat. I use as little fat as possible, fry them quickly and drain and pat with paper towels. They are really good and except for the fat aren't that terrible for you. The true lumpia wrappers are very thin and are only about 40 cal and 9 gm carbs a pc. Of course they aren't whole wheat but it's not like we are eating them all the time. You may have trouble finding them if you aren't blessed with an Asian market though. We have a few in our town and even have one now that is just a few blocks away from us. I don't use any sauce but dh likes to dip his in a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce with (of course) garlic and onion. Almost everything Filipino starts with garlic and onion! I got mine too salty this time...first time I've done that but dh is still eating them afterall!
Lynn - Oh no, Lynn, you got a UTI again too? We must have some connection as we seem to get the same illnesses all the time! I hope you are feeling better quicker this time than last time. It seemed like my body did not react as quickly to the antibiotic this time, but mostly I feel like I'm over it, just now and then I wonder.
Hi to everyone I missed, hope you are all having a good day...it is beautiful here today!
