Just a quickie....Rosey she is tiny and you look wonderful. Your face is changing so much. Looking younger!
Mrs....Hi my name is karen3 and I binge at 71. Never saw a potaoto chip that didn't sing to me. Rie...I smiled all day about DGS wanting salad, too. Donna...on my way to check out the books. I have read all of Nevada Barrs books soon after they come out. thanks. Lynn...Funny how it is always down to the shore when you live in NJ/Pa. Quiet and boring weekend....have got to get something planned as a goal to look foreward to.....hugs k3 |
Hello Everyone,
I am looking for some support. I need to lose at least 20 pounds. Six months ago I was asked by my doctor to lose weight, excercise, watch my sugar intake, eat mor sensibly. Unfortunately I have done none of these things and now it is time for another blood test on the 20th and check up on the 27th. I feel like I have really let myself down. I am bumming. |
Hello All!
Just a few quick notes because I probably won't make it here tomorrow morning. I only got a little walk in today. Things just kept happening and then the day was gone.... Donna, the edema with GM is certainly concerning. It would be a great thing if you could get her into a nice family practice with geriatric expertise. Thanks for asking about my (never ending) knee problems... It isn't much better but it is slowly healing. I am just impatient. I am starting to fear that I will need to face the knee replacement surgery sonner than I want to :( Karen, the best thing about dgs Shawn and his love of salad is that it seems to simply be his taste. He also LOVES cucumbers. Like you, I thought it was funny that he brought his own fork! Hi Bluet! this is a great group. Grab a cuppa and join in... Lynn, glad that you enjoyed the family time. I don't like corned beef, either. I will get going on the walk as soon as I am able. Rosey, that new baby is precious. And, I join everyone in the opinion that you look wonderful. Freda, I join Marie in recommending Zappos. It is a great site. I like knowing what size I wear in each brand and then they have such a selection. It is great! Size 5? that is tiny! Puneri, 80 cals of fudge is a delightful, controlled snack. Brenda, good thoughts sent your way. CK, so glad that Donna heard from you. The idea of the champagne is wonderful! Hi Mrs.... I don't really consider myself a binger. I just have a lifetime of poor eating behind (hopefully) behind me. I like to eat like a farmhand - unfortunately I am not on the farm anymore and don't burn that many calories.... ;) Welcome to the group! Zoe, hoping that little Micah is up and around and that your grandmother's heart is ok. I find it harder to watch them hurt, don't you? Bobbi, how was your Sunday? Marie, LOL on the dancing and YAY on the reading! I will look for it. Keep healing. Well, I am off to get a couple things done. Sorry for missing folks. Tomorrow is a long day, including pool league. BTW, my team is in first place and it all comes down to tomorrow night. Wish me luck... Rie |
Good evening GG’s,
It has been several days since I have been able to post. I’ve been here and keeping up with you all, but after reading, run out of time for posting. Wow ~ I just looked ~ last time I posted was on the 8th. Time goes by so fast. Freda ~ I’ve been ok ~ thank you for asking. We had company last weekend, and before that were trying to clean a little and de-clutter and make it nice for guests. Not that the place was horrible, but we get busy and things get let go. We joke that it is good that company comes every once in a while as the place gets a needed spiffing up. Last weekend, my FIL and his wife, and my youngest daughter, her husband and little girl came for the weekend. Originally middle DD Sara and her family were going to drive to NC over Corbin’s spring break and visit youngest DD Jen and her family. But the closer it got, the less enthused Sara was about spending 4 days of her vacation in a car traveling. She (she is a master at convincing people to do things) convinced Jen to come down here ~ pointed out that Grandpa was gonna be here and has had some health problems recently and at 85 you never know what will happen, and that it might be the only chance he gets to see her little girl ~ one of his great grand children. So, we had a wonderful weekend ~ kind of a mini family reunion. Friday Jen’s family arrived. We gathered at Sara’s house. Ordered pizzas Friday night. First time all three of my kids had been together at the same place since Jen’s wedding in 08. Saturday, FIL and his wife arrived in the afternoon, and we eventually all congregated at Sara’s again. Went all together out to eat at a favorite local Mexican restaurant. Sunday, we met and went to the Aquarium down town. We had to find something to do that could be done inside as it rained the whole weekend. That was the only bad part about the weekend. It would have been fun to make a picnic and go to the park, or take the kids to the playgrounds, but the weather just didn’t cooperate. Ate lunch at the Hard Rock Café ~ Houston. Thought of Marie while there ~ her Bruce was playing up on one of those big screen TV’s. Really enjoyed getting to see everyone. Corbin wrote this about it on FB (I can’t help but gushing about what an awesome kid he is ~ sorry) ~ overall a great weekend. Lots of family came down and it was like a family reunion and was a blast. It’s sad seeing them all leave now but it was a weekend I won’t forget and I got to know some relatives more and meet my new baby cousin. Lots of memories we got to share and create. It makes u appreciate the good things in life and to hold on to them. A couple comments: Lynn ~ your story about losing your daughter’s recording, brought back a memory for me ~ sort of funny and sort of sad. One year DD Sara got a stuffed animal for me for some occasion ~ it had a button on it that you could press and record a voice greeting. She recorded Corbin wishing me ~ what ever the occasion was. It was when they lived in Texas and I lived in NC and missed them ever so much. Well, my husband was checking it out before he gave it to me (I wasn’t home yet) and accidentally pressed the wrong button and erased the voice message. He packed it up and sent it back to Sara for her to have Corbin re-record the message and didn’t want her to tell me about it. I got it and loved it, and eventually Sara had to share the story with me. It was too good not to tell ~ especially knowing how frugal my husband is ~ he really does care ~ to have spent money to send that back and fix it. The sad part was that a couple years later, I hadn’t listened to the message in a while and wanted to hear it, and darn if I didn’t do the same thing DH had done and erased it. Grrrr at self. Oh ~ Lynn ~ the lady who has been helping me with my physical therapy was telling about reading something about the cholesterol meds causing people to start into diabetes. I guess where I was going with this thought was that I asked her ~ then what is a person supposed to do if they need the cholesterol meds ~ she said that there are “natural” things that you can get at health food stores that will control the cholesterol. If you have to cut back on the cholesterol meds, I wonder if something like that would help you. I was wondering for myself, if since I am pre diabetic if the cholesterol med I take is pushing me in that direction and if I should look into the natural stuff. To all of you who have that binging trouble ~ you are not alone. I am right there with you. I can go all day and do pretty good, then some evenings I undo all my work. Bobbi ~ I am with you ~ I can not do just a small bit of some goody. I want to eat as much of it as I want, or I would rather not have any at all. A little bit is just a tease and makes me want more. I am better off if I can just not have it. It seems like there is just no easy way to this ~ if I deny myself too long, I end up binging just the same. What to do?????? Like Freda said ~ if it was easy ~ we wouldn’t be here. Good thoughts for your friend LS ~ Brenda. Welcome Bluet Rie ~ good luck tomorrow night Well, it is almost time for bed. I am feeling discouraged ~ there simply aren’t enough hours in my day. I don’t have enough time to do what I need to do and want to do. Something always has to get left out. I am needing to find some kind of balance for it all and am struggling to do so. Also, I’d better get this done before I get the “finger” again from my computer ~ LOL. This funny floaty little picture of a finger on a mouse pad (lap top) with a slash through it came on the screen and I could not do anything that I do with a mouse. I don’t have a clue what made it come there or what I might have touched to make that happen. Sent out a distress call to DH. He did something, and he’s not sure what he did either, but I am back in business. So, I’d better not push my luck. I know I have missed some of you ~ hopefully I will be able to finish the personals another day. Hope you all rest well. Take care |
Just a quick wave to everyone. Had a busy, busy week and weekend. DH and I laid the cork flooring yesterday and it looks gorgeous. I'll be back later on to chat a bit more.
Oh, and on a happy note, I was back on my bike today. My back's not 100% but it's getting better. |
Thanks for the two new book authors Donna, I read one Neveda Barr book. I just finished "One Good Dog", have lots to say on that book but won't because some are in the process of reading (Marie, listening) to it. Hi to newbies, can't talk this morning. It's suppose to rain and I need to get the bedding washed and out on the clothes lines to dry before the nasty weather comes. Later |

I know that all these meds have side effects and that as we age and have multiple health issues, one med interacts with another. When I cut back on the cholesterol pills, I added crill oil. I am hoping that it will work. Lynn |

I just got labs back, and am now looking into natural supplements to help lower the "bad" cholesterol, as I don't want Big Pharm prescribing yet another pill I'll have to take for the rest of my life. >: And I have also heard that statins don't work for everyone and can cause liver issues, too. Lynn, crill oil is good, but not as good as Fish Oil which contains more Omega 3 fatty acids. I just bought a good supplement from Kroger called Heart Support that has Fish Oil, Flax Oil, Omega 3's and something else (?) in one gel cap. Dosage is 2 times a day. I also just ordered a supplement that contains Red Yeast Rice, Co Q-10, and Omega 3's in 1 tablet from NOW products. Another good thing for cholesterol is Vitamin B12. Everyone, do your research first. :-) I had a productive weekend and managed to stay OP. Yesterday I finally got my tax returns completed and e-filed: what a relief! Had a good night's sleep and am striving to lose 2 pounds this week by walking. Love to read your posts and hope everyone has a great day! Andi |
Lynn...My favorite tv program, Dr. Oz said to use Krill oil because of less toxins.

Lynn, I love the Jersey shore. Actually I love any shore along the Atlantic. Moving from the east coast to the west in regards to oceans is a regret. Mountains is not a regret. I love the rockies and cascades. But the Atlantic is swimmable and so much more fun than the might Pacific (which is fun to watch just not to get into). So I will be jealous of your trip in May. on the lost tape. I know I will love this video forever.
 Brenda, good thoughts are headed to AK for you and your dear friend. Donna, I think changing GM’s doctor makes sense. 10# of water gain is significant. And I don’t take meds anymore. Exercise and blue light and regular sleep hours made it so I could be off them. That’s why not exercising scares me to no end. Rosey “stinkin cute” just made me laugh. She is darn cute. Tootsie is a cute name. My grandkids exhaust me too. KarenFL, well shoooooooot, I’ve never heard a potato chip sing. Is that a Florida thing that I’ve missed on my visits? Puneri, bless your heart for worrying about Rosey. I know she’s just following doctors orders and thank goodness for that because we want her around for a LONG time. Bluet, welcome to the group and just face the appointments and ask your doctor if he/she has any ideas how to go about the directives. Rie, perhaps you should think about the knee surgery so that when you are at goal you can run and play to your heart’s content. Mucho luck being sent your way. Cue your pool goddess and go for it. Ooooo Gayle – Bruce on the big screen. That would be delightful. Especially if I was eating Hard Rocks Mac and Cheese. It is spicy and delish. LOL that your computer is giving you the finger. I’m sure it meant no harm. Isabella, glad that the flooring looks great. Take a picture. I have no idea what cork flooring is. Bobbi, from what my family says, MN needs rain. Lots of rain. I still think having your sheets catch all the maple pollens is not a good idea… Andi, welcome back and good luck eradicating two pounds this week. My material for my Rosey copycat quilt should arrive by Fedex today. In case you don’t remember Rosey’s beautiful airplane quilt she made, I’m making one for my soon to be born grandson. Today I get to start on it. Other than that, life is just a couch potato. Six weeks left of me on the couch. I’m 25% done with the couch life. That is something. Marie |
Hi Golden Girls -
Donna - I read “Peace Like A River” w few years ago and loved it too. Marie - So nice you had nice time with your family. Your DGS reading “Go dog Go!” sounds adorable! I’m so ready for grandchildren but DS aren’t going to be fathers any time soon. I am very proud of my son.(Of both sons - the other is a civil engineer.) And there was no cake at the ceremony so I don’t have that for an excuse! Puneri - I’m right there with you. I was on IP. I maintained for a while but gained back about 15 lbs. I’ve lost about 4 of that. I keep losing and gaining the same 2 lbs. I’m trying to get back on IP full fledged. I do okay during the day. I drink the drinks. I do okay with dinner. It’s that night time craving for carbs that gets me almost every night. I know it’s the dopamine, brain thing, yada, yada, yada. I’ve tried stripping my house bare and I still find something - salad croutons, etc. It’s embarrassing… I’ve got to figure it out. But you are not alone. Marie - LOL - we think alike about the scale - I would worry that the painted devil would add weight! Thanks for the info on Mac and I Pad. I learn a lot on this site. Bluet - welcome! Okay gals. I’ve got to find a way to get through my bewitching hours. I guess I’ll take it one hour at a time. I kind of feel like the old commercial where the lady says, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” Maybe I should try eating 80 calories of chocolate? But like any addict I want a thousand. Hmmm. What works for you? Oops. Have to go pick out paint. Gotta run. Maybe I should start a thread on that when I get back - What do you do to get yourself back on track or thru the ugly hours. |
Good Morning, All…
I’m wasting my time (rather, my employer’s time) at work; however, I’m multitasking and am also working! (you need rationalization? Just call me!) Rosey – how old is your Toots? Is she big enough to play with Gizmo? How is she with Daisy and Sadie? She looks so TINY that I’d be afraid of smooshing her! You look great! Your chin is so defined! The weight loss is so noticeable! Puneri – it’s so sweet of you to be so concerned about Rosey! She seems to be doing well, though, following her doctor’s instructions! Bluet – welcome! SS/Zoe – is the baby feeling better after his surgery? Those little ones seem to recover rapidly! Gayle – good to hear from you! Have you gone into your black scrubs yet? How ARE things on the work front? Isabella – I’m anxious to see the pictures of your new flooring! It sounds plumb lovely! Bobbi – ditto on the pictures of Tiff’s new kitchen! Marie – I can’t imagine you with another 6 weeks of “couch rest”… you’ll be a babbling idiot by then, not to mention stone broke! I didn’t realize how the laparoscopic surgery so much differs from the “old fashioned” hysterectomy. I know you’ll do a fine job on the airplane quilt, too… pictures, pictures!! Deelee – I’m so glad you liked that book. I’m always a little hesitant about recommending books, so it’s good to know that you also liked it. It’s time for lunch! I’m weak, pale, and wan… better go feed this tum! Hope you’re all having a fine Monday! Later, lovelies!:hug: |
Good Morning GG,
welcome Bluet you have come to the right place for action! everyone here is so friendly and interesting. Helpful too. Rosey your furbaby is so precious. what joy they bring. Marie Hope your day is a good one. Hope you get your goodies soon! Bobbi i love Dr Oz show, watch it everyday. Did anyone see Dateline last night? It was really interesting and shocking. A lot of our suppliments are not what they say they are. There is no regulation on them. Some have been found to be very dangerous. Nothing seems to be what its suppose to be anymore. It all comes down to $$$$ Hi to everyone i didnt mention. Enjoy the day:) My friend who is in ICU is doing better~ thanks for your good wishes |
Watching Dr. Oz show just now, I like it too. I am generally awake till 2 a.m. But, 2 nghts back I was awake till 4 a.m. So, took 3 mg melatonine. Next day was bad, I was drowsy and had headache.
Has anybody tried wild lettuce extract? Dr. Oz recommended it. |
I will probably get beat over the head by all the DR Oz fans, but I think he is too into supplements for my liking. I'm not saying that medicine is better, but has recommended supplements on his show that I have otherwise heard are dangerous. Supplements are not regulated by the FDA. It's bad enough when medicines that ARE regulated end up causing problems, but with supplements, there are ingredients in them that might be good on their own, but if you mix them with ingredients in some other supplement they might end up being harmful. And there's no way for you to know. And they can interact with meds you are already taking. When it comes to supplements, I don't go much further than vitamins and minerals.
|
I too have heard about the statins causing people to get diabetes. I wonder if that's what happened to me? I am about to quit taking all my meds and start all over. For example. My cardiologist had me on statins, then he added something else for triglycerides and my cholesterol and triglycerides did improve some, but the good cholesterol is still too low and the bad cholesterol is still too high. Then he added Fish Oil (Omega-3). This really dropped my cholesterol and triglycerides, but did not effect the HDL or LDL. Now I'm wondering, if the fish oil does so well, maybe I should just be taking that and eliminate the statin and the Trilipix (for triglycerides). He would never approve of my doing that. The only way I could do it would be to quit taking them until the next time they check my lipids and see what happens. My husband just shakes his head at how many pills I take a day.
|
i haven't binged in 9days but when i do it i do it bad.Mine can last for days
|
Deelee, my experience of getting back on track is to just keep trying. When I’m in a “wanna eat everything” mood, the more I fight it, the more calories I’ve kept from my hips. I figure if I always fight it and often lose it, then when I really hit the “I’m so in the zone” mode, there’s less to lose or re-lose. So just keep fighting temptation and when you aren’t victorious in the battle, keep on so you win the war.
Donna, “stone broke” would definitely be my outlook. However, there is bad news on my family front and so I’m saving my pennies. At least somewhat. My father is failing and we’ll be taking an another impromptu visit to Minnesota. Sadly I think that it may replace the MN trip that is/was planned for the end of July. Brenda, I’m happy your friend is doing better. You’re still in my thoughts. Carol Sue, I am so with you on Dr. Oz. I liked him at the beginning of his Oprah stints (I saw a show with him on eating and heart problems because of eating – I admit that’s the only show I’ve ever seen him on). Basically he’s a heart dr and is now spouting everything. I know the spouting because you can’t miss all his “recommendations”. I’m not a supplement girl except iron, calcium and D3. Since all my doctors have prescribed these, I’m comfy with them. BTW, I’d go with your gut instinct on the fish oil versus many drugs that did nothing. Just make sure your DH knows in case you have problems. Mrs., Good job on the no binging. My material came and I like it. I have all the pattern pieces created and counts of what I need worked out. I spent a while on the phone with my DD, mostly because she wanted to plan what we will do when my father passes. Apparently I’m an ostrich because I haven’t thought about it other than horde a stash of $$$ to pay for a trip across country. So DD had me think about it then DH and I talked about it. DD will talk to DS so we have a plan. Hopefully it won’t be soon. DS’s wife is 4-5 weeks from due date so he cannot go no matter what he says. And I can’t travel. So I figure it won’t happen too soon. See, I’m an ostrich. BTW, if I seem insensitive to my father's longevity, it isn't. He started failing last June and I went through my fears and emotions then. I saw him in Sept and it was a wonderful visit. Now there is another nasty diagnosis and he'll be going to Mayo soon. But everything I've read says, this will be it and he has no plans to fight it. "I've had 84 great years." is his saying and I trust him. Marie |
Oh, Marie, I'm so sorry to hear about your daddy.... I tell you, these parents of ours are going to make us old! I hope that his time is lengthy AND comfortable!
My cousin in KS died last night, suddenly.... heart attack. The family is reeling! He had a good life, a good wife, 6 good kids... and it's just very sad. However, it was quick and, likely, painless. The fickle finger of fate... Later, lovelies! |
Thank you everyone for the welcome. Today I had oatmeal for breakfast and bowl of beef noodle soup for lunch, and 1/2 turkey sandwich on wheat with a cup of clam chowder for supper. I ate at the rehab wing at the nursing home, because my mother is there and I spent the day with her. She suffered a crushed vertabrae and had surgery to repair it. Now she is in rehab the doctor warned us that she should not fall again. We want her to move to the assisted living but she is giving us a pretty good fight, she wants to go home, but what if she falls again?

Hi everyone Jess and Marie im so sorry for your sadness.Life just stinks sometimes and there is never a rhyme or reason for it. On a brighter note i had a great day with my furbabies. Toots fits right in,gizmo and daisy are playing with her and shes very fiesty and gets right back at them so cute to watch. we are keeping sadie away from her as she tends to be a bit rough.I tried to get some pictures of them playing but all i got was blurrs, tails and butts. we cleaned the spar bedroom today, you know the "junK" room. grdd wil be using it and we also have half a loft and bathrm upstairs for dd and sil. im so excited as i havent seen them in 2 yrs..i finally found my quilt cutting board, fabric and patterns and a lot of other stuff i'd been searching for,im afraid that rm looked like the hoarders show but all spiffy now. My niece came by last evening to pick up some things the girls had left and she brought 2 of her puppies. she raises mini weiner dogs and has tried for yrs to breed long haired and wired haired and smooth and the result is these adorable fluffy mop like puppies. im posting pictures of them. they are 2 weeks older than my toots. hope you dont mind the ramblings about my puppies but ima dog nut. hope your day was as fun as mine rosey

good Morning GG's
What beautiful weather we have! I washed clothes yesterday and hung the bedding on the line, along with the pillows to air out. Too early, and I'm afraid we will have to pay for it later. You know how I love heat (not) and i think we might be getting ready for a long, hot summer. Cleaned the car yesterday too. The Grands are coming today and I promised them we would go knock around some tennis balls. Rosie, Your puppies are lovely. I'm a dog nut too. Especially puppies, but aren't babies of any type beautiful? I saw a friends new DGD yesterday and just wanted to cuddle her. I miss that. Bluet, Welcome, look forward to getting to know you. How old is your mother? I work rehab in the hospital, and our goal is getting people back home. And safe of course. It's always scary when our loved onces are old and we turn into the care givers. But it's very hard on them to lose their freedom and move away from their home. Jess, Sorry to hear about your cousin. How old was he? Marie, Sorry to hear about your dad too. We're all getting to that age, aren't we. Our parents are getting older and more frail. Carol Sue, I still like Dr. Oz and watch him, but i'm not really big on suppliments either. I take some, but not every new thing they come out with or mention. You would be taking a handfull every day if you did. I take calcium with D, the megan dose of D that the Dr. put me on after the fracture, and a multi, and omega 3. that's plenty, thank you. Ladysheets (Brenda?) that's the problem with all the vitimans and minerals and suppliments out there. No real guidelines, no one to answer to. Good for you one day, not so much the next. Mrslosing it, Yeah!!! Good for you. One day at a time. Deelee, I'm one of the girls, ladies..what do we call ourselves? that can have one piece of really great chocolate or treat with my cup of tea in the afternoon and be happy and look forward to what i'm going to have tomorrow. I can't do that with corn chips, i'll eat them untill i'm sick. So I can have chocolate and cookies in the house, but not cornchips. You know you, plan accordingly. Andi, good luck with the walking this week. I hope the weather stays good for you. I find that if I keep my weight under control and exercise, my choolesterol comes down accordingly. I hope you find that too. And we did taxes this week too. Hi Bobbi, still hard at work? I thought of you yesterday while I was hanging clothes outside. It's so nice out I really want to get out and start playing in the dirt, and I know it's way too soon. Puneri, I tried melatonin too and it just didnt' work. I have a hard time sleepign too. Everyone, make it a good day. Freda |
Hi Everyone,
Last night I went to my DD & SIL's for our first cook-out. That hot dog was REALLY delicious and the weather was much more like May than March! Lynn Quote:

Hello Gals. I'm so far behind with posting I'm going to try and do two posts and try and catch up. DH is busy putting the molding and baseboards back in the kitchen. When it is all "perfect" I'm going to post the before and after pictures. I'm quite pleased with our DIY kitchen project.
So here goes a marathon posting. :D Bobbi, I almost sent you a sympathy card when I read that your computer crashed. How do we live without them? I just saw a news article last night that said that people would rather give up sex than the internet. Hahaha. So true. :D Glad your back on the WWW again. I used to decorate the boys' birthday cakes, too. I never took a course but I worked in a kitchen during my college days and picked up a few tips along the way. Marie, just a comment on dgs birthday cake. Yes, it was as large as a wedding cake and certainly under priced for the size and time that went into it. I just think it was just too much for a little guy. Everyone loved the cake, though so his other grandma was very happy. The woman who made the cake was a friend of the family and gave her a very good deal. I'm glad to see your feeling much better as the days go by. The body's ability to heal itself if marvelous. Donna, I think DGS is the most handsome little man I've ever seen. Now there's a bragging grandmother statement. :D I sure every grandmother feels the same way about their little tykes. Yes, the cake was well worth the money. Karen31, butterscotch concrete sounds like something I'd love. So glad you're in your new house and starting to get things settled away. I'm amazed at how efficient you are at all this moving, packing and unpacking. Karen3 , glad you are hearing much better now. Seems as if DGS will not kiss me or anyone else if his mother is anywhere close. All his kisses are for her. The only exception to that is if DH, his grandfather is there, then he leaves his mother for Poppy. Ladysheets, your cat is so pretty. Ciecie, I knew about Oreos being 100 years old but not the GS Cookies. I usually buy a package to support the girls. For all you Oreo lovers out there, here's a story for you. When I was in grade school I had a friend who loved Oreos. One year when the season of Lent came around she gave up the icing between the Oreos. At lunch time she would dutifully pull the two cookies apart and scrape the icing off before wolfing down the two naked halves. That comes to my mind every time I see an Oreo cookie. :D Lynn, that Walmart birthday cake is hilarious. My friend's nephew was christened the wrong name in a similar way. When his father was leaving to see the priest about the christening he checked with his wife to make sure he had the name right. She said, "Call him John." When the husband spoke to the priest he said, "We are naming him Collin John," mistaking his wife's words. So the boy was registered with the first name of Collin. That was about 40 years ago when the churches in Newfoundland registered children's names with the government. Rosey, that little pup of yours is adorable. And you are adorable as well. How nice you look in your pictures. Deelee, thank you for your compliment on DGS and cake. Losing weight is certainly an accomplishment that has been worked on very hard. Potato chips are my "drug of choice" so I try to abstain like you do with cake...sigh... Carol Sue, that was quite the story about your MIL and St. Patrick's Day. Rie, my back is getting a bit better, enough to get on the bike. I don't care for Oreos either. I guess we never had them growing up. My father was the cookie baker in our family and we just loved his cookies. His signature cookies were chocolate chip, peanut butter and a most wonderful coconut cookie (not a macaroon) that he made specially for my mother. I never got his recipe for the coconut cookie and he went to his grave with the secret. I've tried to replicate it but just can't get the same flavour. End of Part I. |
Hi Golden Girls -
Marie - First, I’m very sorry about your father. Second, I’m glad you are feeling better each day. Third, thanks for your ideas about eating. I agree that to keep battling is the best thing. When I am at a daytime function - like bridge or my book club - the ladies wonder why I don’t eat their home made desserts. It’s because, while I could easily eat and enjoy them - I can pass them up then . At 8 p.m. I will want them, even if I had some in the afternoon. So, that saves me some calories. Isabella - My father once asked me - is there anything you won’t eat? He didn’t mean it as an insult, he was just curious. Nope. I love potato chips and other things. I don’t keep those in the house either. Bluet - Almost 2 years ago we moved my parents into a “retirement community.” It has independent living, assisted living and nursing care. I had tried to talk them into it 3 years before that. They had been falling a lot and my dad couldn’t get my mom up, etc. They are in an apartment in the independent part. It is beautiful and they love it. They really need to do assisted living but we are waiting for an apartment to open up on the same corridor they live at now. They don’t do any cooking, unless they want to - they don’t want to. There are 5 restaurants, beauty salon, health club….They have so many friends. Clubs, lectures. Theatre outings to downtown with transportation provided - on and on. Check some places out, find someplace nice, and then show your mom. You both may be surprised. Mrslosingit - good for you - 9 days without binging. I hope tomorrow I can tell you, “one day - no binge.” How do you end your binge? I would be intereste3d in the smallest details... Hi to everyone - keep suggestions coming. I'll be back later! |
Marathon Post Part II Donna, I was wondering why you have trouble posting at home but not at work. Could it be your internet connection. My boys are always talking about the different speeds and their effects on downloading, etc. Lynn, your story about meeting your former student was so interesting. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I used to love corned beef when I ate meat. It was one of my favourite meals. Glad your children enjoyed the meal. I'm going to start posting my eats and exercise again. Thanks for mentioning it on one of your posts. Rosey, all the kids must be thrilled when they hear they are going to visit you. Heck, I'd like to visit you and have my nails done and make bracelets and watch a movie. Sounds like a great time for the little ones. You must be very tired after a day like that. But what memories for the kids. Marie, your convalescence seems to be going well. I just love when I can find a place online that has free shipping. I just won't buy if I have to spend a fortune on shipping and handling. So sorry your father is not well. I hope he has many more happy years ahead of him. Bobbi, isn't it amazing how long a kitchen remake can take when you're not on a TV reality show. Oh, and check out these links on double underlined words and how to disable them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IntelliTXT http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=564572 Carol Sue, strange things happen. That's quite the story on how you and your DH met and married. BTW, I figured your dates were off as things didn't add up. :D Puneri, don't give up on losing weight. The worst thing you can do is to give up and gain it all back. Try something new. Rie, it must be really dry in Montana if you have a "burn warning" in March! Hopefully, spring will bring rain for the crops. So glad you will be "walking" with us in the challenge. I know all about bad knees and I have to watch my pace as well. Welcome, Mrsloingit. You're in the right place. I can be a binger. If I'm stressed I'll eat til I burst. Happy Birthday, Nancy. Late I know. Mary, if your worried about your DH on a ladder get someone else to clean or install the gutters. The bill for repairs will be much cheaper than a funeral. Freda, wish it was warm enough here to hang cloths on the line. It's the first day of Spring and it's snowing and the week promises to be cold. I never had a problem with my back until I retired. Maybe if you retire, your back will get better. :D Ladysheets, how is the dear lady doing? Hope she is on the mend. Donna, you would do well to find a new doctor for your GM if you're not happy with the one she has. My mother was given medication that made her shuffle instead of walk and she had Parkinson's Disease where you need all the help you can with walking. When mom was with my sister she fell and had to be taken to emergency and the doctor there said he never prescribed this medication to seniors as it affected their ability to walk. When my sister asked mom's regular doctor to take her off that medication the doctor got very huffy about the whole thing. When mom came to live with me we got a new doctor who took her off the undesirable meds and got her on new ones. So sorry to hear about your cousin's sudden death. That's really hard on the family. Rosey, what a story about your trip to Alaska when younger. Tootsie is such a cute name for the pup. Welcome Bluet. You'll get lot's of support here. I hope you can find suitable arrangements for your mother that will keep everyone happy. Gayle, I was wondering where you'd gotten to. Glad to hear from you again. Nothing like company coming to get things cleaned and tidied up. I don't think the downstairs bathroom would ever get cleaned if we didn't have company coming, lol. Sounds like you all had a great time together. Webwoman, hope you are successful with the 2 lb loss this week. Marie, cork flooring is a laminate floating floor. It's a click and lock system. Each piece is 1x3 feet. You can see the cork on the top and bottom with some kind of wood product laminated in between. The colors are very natural but range from quite dark to light as the one in the picture. It's very easy on the feet. http://www.corkfloor.com/images/Snap1web.jpg http://www.finishingstore.com/images...PecanLarge.jpg Deelee, "my bewitching hours" really resounded with me. If I can say "no" I'm all right, but if I give in I'm like a maniac. Zoe, you must be a very busy lady. Haven't seen you here in a while. A question for all you fish oil people. Does fish oil have cholesterol and is it significant? Just wondering.... The kitchen is starting to be functional again. I had a few spots to repaint today where the paint got scratched. I was quite pleased that there were only a few places and that was because we removed a door and scratched the paint removing the hinges from the door. I thought we'd have the baseboard molding down today but have to wait for it to be delivered to the store tomorrow but that hardly stops me from working in there, lol. I think I got everyone in these two posts but if I didn't you may beat me unmercifully with your typing fingers. Catch you later. |
So many post to catch up to, so much to do. Isabella, thanks for those links to rid myself of those underlined words. I'll work on that tomorrow when I don't have a migraine headache. I can't think or see straight today.
Yes Marie, you can tell me........I TOLD YOU SO. I washed bedding and hung outside where maple pollen must have travels for miles to get to my sheets. We cut down the only Maple tree in our yard last fall when I found that to be one of my allergies. I'm going to sleep on the same sheets tonight and see if I still wake with a headache, if not ....then it wasn't maple pollen that got to me. later gators. |
Donna, sadly my dad’s time won’t be lengthy or comfy. I am sorry about your friend’s passing. I’m not sure most day’s I feel old but the number of family or friends’ deaths gives me a good clue.
Bluet, sometimes I think we have to put our foot down harder with our parents than with our children. If your mom falling is detrimental for her longevity, you’ll need to get pushy. Rosey, sounds like you’re having a great time with your puppies. I love all the pictures. Freda, how fun to play tennis with your grandkids. I’m jealous. And of warm weather. Six inches of snow dumped on us overnight. Most is melting away but my huskies sure had fun this morning. Lynn, a BBQ in March does sound off whether in Oregon or Pennsylvania. Isabella, I’ve got to say that it is cute all your DGS’s kisses are for his mommy or granddad. You’ll get more during the next stage. And if you ever figure out the flavor missing in your coconut cookies, post the recipe. Yummy. How cool on the cork flooring. We have laminate and I’d think the cork would add more cushion than the plastic squishy stuff we’d used. Deelee, I so agree that everything that I pass up is a step closer for a day’s success in the war. Thank you for the kind thoughts. I appreciate them. Bobbi, here’s a link for pollen forecasts. Maple wasn’t listed for you. Seems my DGD wasn't just teething when she was over on Saturday. I seem to have a cold. boo-hiss. My dr appt went well. We talked about what to do if the cold makes the asthma go haywire. Since I'm two weeks post-op, prednisone could slow recovery but I am two weeks post-op and that's good. Usually I don't have asthma crashing until a week after a cold starts. So that would be three weeks post-op. Got my DGS's quilt material yesterday and it's prewashed. DH moved my sewing cabinet into the living room. Yesterday I made all the patterns and worked out the instructions. So today I will start working on it. Having Spicy Cajun Pasta for lunch/dinner with DH and hope that the spicy knock the cold on its butt. Marie |
Isabella - I don't know what you mean by is fish oil significant. Did you mean is it a significant source of cholesterol? It lowers your cholesterol. I think to lower your cholesterol you have to be taking around 3000 mg daily. You can also get it in your food. Salmon is a good source and my favorite!
|
Marie...thanks for that thread, since I'm new to allergies I didn't know it existed. Sorry about your dad's health, I meant to say that in my last post but my head isn't working very good today.
|
Carol Sue, what I was wondering was is there a significant amount of cholesterol in fish oil?
|
I'm not Carol Sue but I asked my doctor about this and he said yes, it does and it is strange but it still helps lower cholesterol in humans. My dh and I were told to get at least 2000 or 2500 which is what we take daily.

I also love cozy mysteries.I'm reading SAMMI CARTER'S PEPPERMINT TWIST

I stayed home today but it's been a busy but pleasant day. I ordered PB2 from amazon and got it today. Of course I had to try it right away in a mocha! It was almost as good as using my regular pb and saves me about 60 calories. So it's a keeper. Can't wait to try it with apple slices like Rie does!
MrsLosinit - I found your book and have it in my cart at amazon. will buy when I earn another GC. Isabella - At this point dh won't allow me to hire others often. He feels he is still able to do most things. I think the Leafguard system will make our house look better (we need new gutters regardless) and will also make it easier for dh. They are coming tomorrow to give us an estimate. I am hiring others for anything that requires going on top of the roof or trimming (high up) or cutting down trees now. I don't want to restrict dh's activity too much...the yardwork is good exercise, just want to keep him safe and I think he will in time realize there are somethings he shouldn't do anymore. Today he went to his retirees brunch, then shopping at about three stores for things he needed and a few groceries. Came home exhausted. Sorry I can't do more personals right now. Have to get dinner started. |
Hello all....sorry for being MIA, but I've been popping in on FB here and there. Just so danged busy, and then little Micah had a couple of really bad days - or nights, I should say - waking, or semi-waking with night terrors, which apparently happens fairly often with small children who are given anesthesia. A lot of feedback from parents on the internet with children who had tonsillectomies and adenoids removed and then had night terrors for anywhere from a couple of nights to a couple of months. They are really scary, as the child isn't really conscious and can't be consoled, just screams and screams until he wears himself out. Last night he didn't have them, so we're hoping that they're over with. My poor dd is pretty sleep-deprived. She took him back to his PC, who said there's nothing that they can do about them. Great, huh?
Thanks for asking about me, Isabella. I'm still plugging away. I found a diet buddy - one of my partners on the Vermont project, and we're checking in with each other a couple of times a day via text message or email and coaching each other to stay focused on eating less and exercising more. I've been keeping up, more or less, on FB with most of us GG's...Oh, Marie! So sorry to hear about your Dad, hun. Wish I could give you a hug. Glad to hear that CaddyK is finally moved into her new place. The pics are awesome. Beautiful house! Well, much as I'd like stay and chat a while longer, I'm dead tired and need to get myself prone. I hope to get caught up sometime soon. In the meantime, I'm thinking of all of you....ohhhhh, Rosey, Toots is just adorable! :grouphug: Z |
Hey everyone,
Beautiful sunshine here today I enjoyed it very much,so did my kitty Sylvee. My dear friend is still having a hard time still in ICU. she dosnt want to do what anyone tells her to do so its making things hard on herself. She can be a pill. going to anchorage to see her tomorrow i have a follow up w ith my surgeon to see how the spinal fusion is coming along.Hoping for good news. Marie I know ups and downs you have when your parents begin to fail. Mine are both gone now but it can be a very stressful time. I hope things go well for all of you. suppliments i take are fih oil, vit. D3 and multi vitamin. Not big on taking anything but Doc reccomends this and so i use it. chat with all of you later |
Hello Goldens.
Wow, I missed yesterday and I am way behind! I am having a busy week at work and home. Oh well, it keeps me moving, right? I am easing back into Walkitout and weight lifting and it sure feels good. Marie  So sorry about your dad. I know that you really enjoyed your time with him on your last trip. Hopefully the asthma monster will spare you this time. The quilt is a nice diversion. Donna, to you too! I am sorry about the sudden loss of your cousin. It sounds like he was well-loved and had a good life. I lost my gpa after a long illness and my gma suddenly. I can't figure out which is best. Probably quickly for them and sadly, harder for those they leave behind. I think losing people is a good reminder to treat our loved ones well while we have them. I am hoping for you to find GM a good doctor. Zoe, poor little Micah. And poor granny and mom, too! Hopefully, he will be one of the kids that passes through it quickly. Their little neuro systems are just not developed. The only good thing is, like his pain, he probably won't remember.... Hang in there working lady! Rest up. Isabella, I loved your post(s). Fish oil has cholesterol but it helps to lower it in humans. Very strange. My doc is not big on supplements but he is all over omega 3's. Of course he had stints in his heart a couple years ago and worries about the heart a lot. The cork floor is wonderful. Bluet, most of my relatives who have entered senior communities have lived longer and healthier lives. I think it would be good for you to check some out for the "future". Your mom might become more interested. Mrs, the night time battles and binges are always a problem. I plan my evening snack and look forward to it. I can't say that I never want to munch, but I do pretty well. I can savor small doses of chocolate or other treats. Like Freda, though, please don't bring fretos in the house! Rosey, LOL at the hoarders reference. I have been worried lately about the hideous state of my bedroom. Ugh! but it will be a month or more before there is a free day on the schedule to deal with it. A major cleaning is on the horizon in my life! Bobbi, so sorry about your headache. I think m'dear, that your days of hanging sheets on the line are gone. Feel better. Lynn, we had a Monday snowstorm, barbque on saturday, sunday and tonight. :?: Go figure! gotta love Montana. If the weather keeps up, I expect the asparagus to poke out of the ground soon. Andi, good luck on the loss this week. On the hanging sheets on the line.... I am using new products from scentsy. My friend sells it. It is non-allergenic and I can use it - even though my dgs cant be around any fragrance soaps, etc. My sheets smell like sugar cookies! Lovely. DeeLee, yes, keep up the fight. Gayle, how ya doing? So glad to see you walking. Caddyk, I hope the house stuff is going well. We miss you. I loved your pictures. Karenfl, here's hoping that you are figuring out the medication stuff. Be careful, ok? Freda, my ds did all the cleanup that we didn't get done last year. I am sure itching to get out there but it is way too early here. I can't wait to have my cucumbers, tomatoes, and fresh stevia.... The best. The iris are out of the ground and I hope they don't freeze. I love them. CarolSue, the thing that troubles me about all the supplement stuff is that there is always the newest one around the corner. I get tired of taking them although I am pretty good about the D and fish oil. I have also been taking biotin in a hopeless effort to stop my hair from falling out :( Well, all, I am very tired and I need to wind down for a while. I am sorry for missing some, be back tomorrow.
