Good BFC Morning! I am doing my happy dance, I am down another pound.
It puts me to my lowest again!:broc:

Wannabehealthy 08-26-2011 09:51 AM

This must be a day for losing, as I am down 3.5 lbs this morning! That's a whoosh I rarely get! I know why....this might be TMI, but I was constipated for 2 days and that is no longer the case. LOL Whatever the reason, I am accepting the loss! A loss is a loss!

I cannot follow the BFC plan. For one thing, there are too many carb substitutions that are not normally on my shopping list, and I don't want to buy them when I will be the only one eating them, and also buying "regular" carbs for DH. Being diabetic, I do have to cut back on carbs, but choose to do it in my own way. I am following what I would call a "modified carb" plan along the lines of Intuitive Eating. I am trying to be more aware of actual hunger and satiation. (is that a word?)

BCL216, I'm glad to hear that you're OK. Congrats on being at your lowest! I am almost there. I like your little dancing broccoli.

Hi Carol and thanks,
Congrats on your 3.5 loss! Thats awsome! It does not matter what plan you are on, it matters that you have inco-operated a new healthy life style and you are losing. Way to go!

Carol, my husband is diabetic, but until I read this book, I didn't really understand how to limit carbs for myself. I'm not buying all the alternative carbs either, but I am so glad to finally have figured out how the numbers work. That alone made the book worth the price! It's also been very eye-opening how much sugar is in food I used to eat and drink, like nonfat milk. I am following the guidelines and trying to adapt it to something I can follow for the rest of my life. My husband has lost almost 70 lbs since his diagnosis, I would love to do the same.

My husband is also diabetic so I feel your pain. I haven't quite got the numbers down but am working on it so any help you could give would be appreciated.

Smart Planning

Hello Everone and good to have you check in Mary.

Be SMARTabout any plan. I read this in an article and I hope it helps.

•Specific –Be Specific about what You want, to lose weight or get fit; or both.
•Measurable – Define how much weight you want to lose, or how much fitter you need to be.
•Action – Define exactly what you will do – specific diet, exercise plans etc.
•Realistic – Set goals that you will be able meet, do not try to lose too much weight too soon.
•Time-limited –Set a time limit and then assess your achievements at the end.
************************************************** *********
I also think that if you Journal daily, it will help you find out where you are falling short. Be honest with yourself about the food you are eating and how much. Be accountable to someone other than your self. It will help keep you on track. To lose weight you must be willing to change your diet and lifestyle. So your action must cover both of these bases.

For those that are Diabetic, use the low G.I guide and it can work with the BFC plan or just about any other plan. I know it can be confusing but with effort and planning; you can do it.:df:

Finally moving 08-29-2011 12:56 AM

Nanmalott, here is how I understand it to work. 20 grams of carbs is one serving. You can have six servings a day, preferably two per meal. If I eat something with ten grams in it, I count one half serving and allow myself to save the second ten grams for later in the day.

When we went to the nutritionist for my husband last year, she was waving sample sizes of plastic food around and it was very confusing. He is more spatial than I am, and he got it right away. When I told him how this plan worked, he said, yeah, that's what I've been doing all year! I wish he'd just told me.

I spend a lot of time reading labels and making sure I keep my serving sizes where they should be. As I mentioned before, I've also been paying more attention to sugar and trying to eliminate that from my diet.

My husband was told by his nutritionist not to worry about the carbs in fruit, veggies and sauces, so he doesn't. Since I have kind of a lot to lose, I am tracking all carbs, but hope to be able to relax on that when I hit my goal.

I hope that makes sense, and helps some. I was delighted to come back from my two week vacation only up one pound, and I've lost that already. I wasn't perfect, but I did my best to stay on track, and it worked!

"Five Pounds to lose.....Sept.1st"

:flow1:Good BFC Morning,
Well August is almost gone and time for our New Challenge starting Sept.1st.
(But first, don't forget to post this months weight loss stats.)
Remember to use SMART strategy when setting your goals(see my previous post). If you use a SMART strategy to plan your weight loss then it will really help you to stay on target. You can set realistic goals that are attainable through calculated actions over a set time period.
For example, As a general rule of thumb we lose 1 pound of fat each week when our daily calorie intake is consistently 500 Calories below our needs.
So to lose that pound you must cut say 250 calories from your diet and perhaps burn another 250 calories by exercising.
Our Goal is 5lbs. per month until you reach your goal. Please don't look at it as I have say 60lbs. to lose and it will take 1 year to lose it. SET your goal of 5 pounds. Then when you reach that goal set it for the next 5 pounds. (Don't forget to reward yourself with your appropriate 5lb. ticker icon.)

Please don't use excuses for not staying on whatever the plan or exercising, own your mistakes and be honest. Then we as a team we can work together to figure out what is going on. If we discuss these things that trip us up and allow others to help, maybe we can finally make a real life change. It is important to keep daily food logs/journals. I will committ to keeping mine daily starting Sept.1st. It will be available for anyone who wants to read it.
I will post a link to it. Ok everyone get ready, plan and post. Have a great BFC week. I am heading to the beach for aweek Sept.1st. Wish me Luck on staying BFC.:flow1:

Most fruit raises my blood sugar a lot. I can eat canned pears without a problem, and that's good because they are one of my favorites and I can buy them canned in juice rather than syrup. I also eat bananas within limits. Some diabetics can handle fruit and some can't.

During my last hospital stay, they were giving me things I usually stay away from. For one thing, they gave me chocolate pudding that wasn't sugar free. I could tell as soon as I tasted it. When they would check my sugar it was so much higher than it usually is at home. I mentioned it to the doctor, and they sent the dietician up to talk to me. She said they give regular pudding because the amount they give is within the 15 gr allowance for a diabetic, as well as some of the other things they were giving me. It doesn't work that way for me. After I was there a few days I was able to order my own selections from the menu and I could avoid things that I knew raised my sugar. I have heard that every diabetic has to do trial and error for themselves....find out what raises their sugar and what doesn't.

Happy September, and I'm up for the 5 pound challenge! Last month I lost around 5 pounds, and look forward to another 5 melting away this month.

I had a 2-egg omelette with cheese this morning @7, and it keep me very full until around 12:30 so I'll try that again! I keep forgetting how filling protein is...for lunch I had a chicken breast, lettuce and tomatoes from the garden, so having a good day so far.

I'm at 165 and with luck will be able to say goodbye to the 160's by the end of the month!

BCL216 09-01-2011 03:29 PM

Good Morning all,

I'm down a pound this morning, and have been waiting for that drop! Having eggs for breakfast seems to work for me as they are satisfying and filling. This weekend will be a challenge, as I'm baking for my BF's family reunion: carmel cheesecake and apple pie. I may have to have a small taste of each just to see how they turned out, but that's all. ;-)

How is everyone else doing?

BCL216 09-02-2011 10:59 PM

Hey webwoman,

I got to the beach around 7:30pm. I am tired and ready to get some sleep.
My meals for today was not as good as it should have been, but I will be able to do better tomorrow. Congrats on your 1lb. loss, that is GREAT! I hope I don't blow it. well have a safe holiday and enjoy.

fitchy 09-03-2011 01:38 AM

I'm in, but I want to set my goal at 7 lbs to get out of the 240s. I've been doing the BFC for 6 weeks and have lost 10 lbs. I'm following the concept more than the meal plans. It has been so easy, I believe I can live with this plan indefinitely. Good luck, everyone! :)
