Good Morning, All...
Sounds like we're all gearing up for our New Year's resolution! Some of the strong won't need to, those of you who have tons of self control and won'tpower! I want some won'tpower!! I have plenty of willpower...
Cold here, but we've yet to have any snow... ANY snow! When the WeatherGods discover that, we're likely to get buried in the stuff!
Lynn, I like the idea of you becoming a theater critic! You do enjoy your time, don't you? I was totally grossed out by the museum to the self-beating priest, though. I was brought up Catholic, too, and I had to run away as soon as I was able to get away. All I can say is "ugh"... and maybe "bah"!
PT/Zoe, the first link I posted yesterday on the surgery isn't gory; the second link I posted is. It's all so interesting! I'm glad Rosey is doing well. Her daughter is a delight! What a nice girlie.
Better get this big ol' butt in gear. Bobbi, I'm concerned about you! I hope they figure this out soon so you can get some relief! Good thoughts!!
Good Morning! Everything is OK here. The services for my Aunt are on Saturday and I've been making some calls for my cousin this morning.
I guess my sons "thing" left for Colorado yesterday about noon. She had promised her sister that she would be back on Monday night or Tuesday morning since her sister had to be back to work yesterday----ooops! But that is the way she is-- as long as she does what she wants to bad for everyone else. I'm really hoping that my son never gets back with her but I just have this sinking feeling that he will. He called yesterday and said he was staying up at the duplex for a little while to do some cleaning. She came back Sunday night and we haven't seen him since except he came and got a DVD rental that he had to return on Monday about noon. And he talked to my husband yesterday and said he has to work real hard to keep the duplex since she has a lot of her things still there!!! Now just what does that say???? I haven't done much talking to him since he doesn't seem to want to listen and I don't want to deal with it anymore. So I let Tim take the calls from him.
Anyway, enough on that subject and I'm going to get through this week, then put up Christmas decorations and I WILL HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS in spite of everything!
Bobbi, I hope the shots help you. I can't hardly stand getting a regular headache so I can imagine how you must feel. My Dad used to have those headaches too and he would end up just laying on the couch with a cold wash cloth on his head until it would pass. Not much would get him down but those headaches sure did!
I'm back.............doc just worked on my right side today, gave me 2 cortisone shots in my neck and 3 on my upper shoulder blade. I have to go back in 2 weeks and she'll do the other side if they help. She told me to stop using the muscle relaxers and the pills she gave me for the migraines since neither help. I'm going to send out Christmas cards today, tomorrow I'll decorate the house and put up the Christmas tree.............I love Christmas! You all have a skinny day!
Thank you all for thoughts and prayers for Mom. They certainly helped as I just got off the phone with her and she is doing splendidly!!! Sounded great and said that her I.V. was hurting worse than her tummy! She's been up and around several times and She gets to go home (to my sisters) tomorrow and will continue to recover there for around a week and then she'll get to go back to her own home where she wants to be. But she is doing great and says Thank you to all of you!
Hi everyone! So very glad that Rosey is doing well!! Thanks for the updates!
The days are getting busier and busier, even though I did stay home today. I got a little caught up with my housework and finished the laundry I started yesterday. If we get to leave I want to be sure my house is clean.
Today the pesticide guy came and he also set a big trap for mice baited with peanut butter which contains poison near our woodpile....nasty stuff but if we get to go on our trip, I do not want to return home to a family of mice. I wanted to refuse the treatment but they wouldn't let me as it voids the contract. Maybe I should have just paid the $130 and cancelled it but I was afraid dh would have a fit for me paying for something we weren't getting. But we now will have to pay for two more treatments which will be $224.
I wrapped another family's gifts. That's all I can stand to do each day. I love to give gifts but don't like to wrap any more.
I made some spaghetti and meatballs tonight. Meant to use those veggie crumbles but forgot and thawed out hamburger and used it! LOL We don't eat much meat anyway, but I've got a triglyceride lab tomorrow which I will likely flunk. Hopefully I'll remember to use the crumbles another time so I don't waste them. I went over on calories today but my carbs servings were great. How in the world does someone who has to avoid too many carbs, get the fat down I know the fat not only plugs up arteries but also makes it harder for the glucose to get into the cell...but gee I can't just eat protein all the time! Guess it's just another reason to keep to my beans and greens diet and not mess up so much.
My youngest son got married the other day. He lives in another state and we will be visiting him and his wife soon.
Bobbi - I hope the headache is gone soon. I rarely have them but I hate them when I do!
Zoe I was thinking of you today when I heard they are considering making the minimum age for SS 69. I know people are living longer but I would have HATED to have worked that long! Most women I know who are working in their 60s are so tired and counting the days!
Bobbi, Zoe - I had to laugh reading your comments about boobs! I was at a resort function once and saw this smallish slender (otherwise) woman wearing a light t-shirt with what I thought at first glance was fat around her waist, it was flopping around as she walked around the room talking to people. Then I realized it was her boobs!! She was one of those little women with huge boobs and they had fallen to about her waist!! She was not wearing a bra and they flopped and flowed about as she walked! I couldn't believe that someone would go out in public like that!! I wasn't sure to be proud of her for her courage or tell her to get out of there! LOL I used to want bigger ones but now they are plenty...and not perky anymore sad to say but that's life. I remind myself there are a lot worse things.
Went to the Weight Watchers meeting yesterday and got the information on the new plan. Spent last evening reading through the stuff and trying to understand it. Today, re-doing a little booklet I had made myself with lists of foods that I used frequently and recalculating the points values of them. (I can't remember all that that stuff in my head ~ LOL.) Trying to make it as easy for myself as I can. The easier it is I am less apt to make an excuse to not do as I should.
They have changed the formula by which they determine how many points a person gets a day. They have also changed the formula by which they determine how many points a food gets. You still go about it the same way ~ tracking your foods and how many points you have used, but at the start of it ~ a lot of work learning the new points values for foods.
They say that they are trying to keep up with the latest scientific information on how the body processes the different parts of foods. They are gently nudging us to make healthier choices. More protein and fruits and vegetables, less carbohydrates and fat. Not eliminating any one of those as some diets do.
They have made all the fruits 0 points except I think avacados. Even canned fruits if they are canned in water or their own juice. I think that will help me a lot.
Taking a lunch break right now, then back to work on my booklet.
Just got home from running around all morning. I had to fast overnight due to having lab work done. Should get the results in a few days. My A1C was down to 6.4 (6.8 last time) so I and the doctor were happy to see that! Guess that greens and beans diet is helping with that. I checked with him about the amount of Vit D we are taking (2000 U in supplements) and he thinks it's fine, so we are going to continue it. We don't get much sunshine.
Stopped at a new store my dh read about. Forgot the exact name but it's Harvest Marketplace or something like that. They are going to be good competition for Whole Foods and Trader Joes. I plan to start shopping there. Lots of good prices on produce but of course it is the opening so just hope that will continue. We also stopped at WG for some diabetic supplies as I've been testing more often and ran out.
Came home, got the p/u and I followed dh to the garage to get the car checked again. These people agreed with the others that the engine is still good so we are going ahead with the transmission rebuild. They gave us a good price.
Now I need to get to work cleaning house and wrapping more gifts. Still no packages that I've been expecting. Hope they are here soon!
Glynne - I considered starting up again with WW since they seem to be taking carbs into account with the new program. As a diabetic I'm glad to see that, but I hate to pay and if I just stick to my limits, calorie counting is easy (I use Calorie King software) and works, so think I'll just stick to what I'm doing and keep trying to do it better. Good luck with the new program!
My class is VERY large. I have 21 students in a Graduate course. Typically, I have about 12. I REALLY hope that I will be able to give everyone enough attention.
Yesterday's play - Lombardi - was GREAT. The guy who played the father in Wonder Years played Lombardi. Fantastic acting - minimal but effective set design & realistic dialogue - Zoe, how's that for my first review? Driving to the play was HORRIBLE! My car was getting blown all over the place.
Today was my Irish Genealogy club meeting. Coincidentally, I came home to a letter from a researcher who found LOTS of information for me about one of my Irish lines (Morris family from Philly).
Tomorrow is a funeral in the morning & lunch & genealogy with an old friend in the afternoon.
Good Morning! Wednesday after arriving home after my cortisone shots I crashed and slept the rest of the day and night. I had a bad reaction to the new migraine pills and was so dizzy I couldn't stand up. I'm better today, have to run in and get another prescription for them. I DO NOT HAVE A MIGRAINE THIS MORNING! The cortisone shots must have helped, praise the Lord. One good thing did come out of it, I jump started my diet because I was too sick to eat. I dropped 2 pounds and the weight didn't come back. I have a question for all you girls, what kind of computer chair do you sit in? My DD told me to get one of those chairs you sit in with your legs bended under and back and no backing on the chair. It makes you sit up straighter and some of my problems comes from hunching over the computer. She said this would help keep my back straight and not strain my neck and shoulder muscles. Does anyone use this type of chair and what do you call it? Inquiring minds want to know!
Oh, Bobbi, that's good news! I hope it continues!! I own one of those ergonomic chairs (the S-shaped thing). It's really great for storing file boxes. It didn't work for me for two reasons: 1) my back got tired, and I slumped; 2) my legs and knees hurt from the pressure. Maybe you can find someplace that will let you try it out at home for a duration before actually buying the thing. I use an old-fashioned wooden dining room chair with a back on it. Regardless, my posture isn't good, and I have to stretch and "crack" my shoulders. (Everything that's ever been broken or operated on has arthritis now, so nothing is comfortable!)... Good luck!
Nothing going on here. I woke up yesterday with a RAW throat, which usually means strep. Today the throat is a little better, but I have a not-so-sexy deep croak in my voice. It's not the Suzanne Pleshette huskiness... just a froggy croak, pretty attractive, haha. I don't feel too bad as long as I don't allow myself to cough; that hurts! This is my second cold this year (actually, second cold in THREE years!), which is not acceptable. I'm usually very resistant to these little buggers.
PT/Zoe, all well? Everyone, hope you're well. Rosey, I'll bet you'll be glad to get back to your own home! It's hard to feel crummy and to have to stay in someone else's house! Hope you're doing very well (apparently, you're the poster child for this kind of surgery, and what a good girl you were!)...
Hi everyone..just a quick post before I go out to do yard work...yes, the sun is shining so this am I poured plant food around all the front yard plants that I hadn't gotten to because of the rain. The soil is damp so I was able to work it in pretty well. In the process of rummaging around the garage I found my gift from my dh...shsss...I won't tell him! BTW it is what I wanted! A Cusinart stick blender... I plan on using it to make lots of good soups!
Otherwise, I have caught up with my housework and have all but one of my gifts wrapped. Can't find a box or giftbag large enough so will have to buy one I guess.
Rosey, how you doing today?
Bobbi - glad your headache is gone! I have a regular office chair...one I was given by someone ..can't remember who years ago. It's kinda torn up but it'll do a while longer. My desk is starting to fall apart too, but again it will do. Hope you find something that works well for you.
Another quick update on Mom...
she is home (at my sisters) and doing well. Feels pretty good and is anxious to recuperate in her own home. Sounds great but tired. Told her to borrow a laptop so maybe you'll actually hear from her later instead of me
Sorry I didn't post yesterday...pneumonia is miserable bug and has really knocked the life outta me...zpak started tho
Have a great day and know that Mom is doing well!!!
Good Afternoon. I finally slowed down long enought to let that nasty cold bug catch me! Darn it!! Feeling pretty miserable right now and I'm thinking that I see a zpak in my future too! Tonight is the visitation at the funeral home and tomorrow are the services. I just talked to my cousin and apologized but I just don't think it is smart to get out when I really don't have to. In fact, Tim has been sick for about 4 or 5 days now and he is starting to feel better so I just sent him to the store to get some groceries.
Bobbi, if I remember right, Linda(meowee) used to sit on her big exercise ball when she was at the computer. She said it made her sit up straighter and also worked her abs a bit while she was doing it... I've never tried it but it kind of makes sense.
Glad to hear that Rosey is doing good. I'm sure she is anxious to be able to get back to her own home. Thanks so much for keeping us updated.
Well, Tim just got back from the store so better go and help put stuff away. Take care and I'll catch you later. Hello to anyone I missed--- the brain don't work so good right now.
