Coralee, glad to have you back! You sound like me, I love my gc but I'm always glad to be back to peace and quiet too!
You mention diet power software. Sounds like you like it? I use calorieking ...the stand alone program...not the website. It allows me to enter weight and what I eat and lets me know whether I've met my goals or not. Of course I usually know anyway! There are charts and graphs of how my weight is going etc. Pretty basic software. I Went to the power diet website and sounds like it has some extra features to keep you on track. What do like about it?
HGC? Aren`t those steriods? When she said hormones, I thought she meant estrogen! Oh well, whatever. It doesn`t matter. I don`t do hormones well. Never did, even when I was younger, I couldn`t take birth control pills and about 10 years ago my gyn wanted me to take hormone replacement, that didn`t suit me either. They completely mess up my circulatory system. I`m popping veins out all over the place when I take any hormone.
I`d just rather do some things the old fashioned way.
The weather has turned quite cold here. It was 52 here yesterday and the rain made it feel more like 42. I have a love/hate with the weather here. I hate the cold and rain but love love love, the cold and snow.....uh....when the sun is shining of course.
I have a really bad sore throat. I need to baby myself today.
Helen - I just got over a bad sore throat myself, followed by a head cold. I hope you get better soon. I'd rather lose this weight the old fashioned way, too, because at our ages, we already know losing it so fast doing some of those crazy things is harmful, and the weight won't stay off, anyway. Btw, if you have any, try some Chloreseptic spray on your throat. It sure makes it feel better.
Trish - the pollen rate in Indiana is very high right now. Out here where I am, the farmers are harvesting corn, and there's all kinds of stuff blowing in the air. Glad you're having a little more energy. The weather affects my energy level - when the cool front went through, I was busy as a bee around the house, inside and out, getting things done. Don't want to wish my life away, but I'm so glad Fall is almost here!
Mary - I'm one of those who has to write down everything I eat, lol. I keep a 3-ring binder with cheap school paper in it, and use a sheet each day. Usually I fill it out the night before, so it's all accounted for, but sometimes I have to make adjustments.
Coralee - welcome back, chickie! You were missed! I love So Cal! So clean and bright and fun! LOL about the toddler, and I agree that the peace and quiet after the grands go home is nice. But I sure miss them, though.
Em - I agree that a challenge where we each pick our goals would be ideal. We have crickets here, too, starting in. I like their noise when it's outside. Once in awhile, one makes it indoors and I don't like that so well, lol.
Karen - I'll get the challenge started soon. How about beginning Sept. 1st?
It's rainy here in Indiana, so I plan to get some paperwork done, and do some little chores that mount up.
I'm down another 2 pounds, for a total so far of 38.2 pounds. My knees are grateful.
Jane - I like it when it is cooler too. Had a few days last week not as hot as usual. Nights are cooler which makes good sleeping as well.
I'm one who writes down everything I eat as well especially now that I'm trying to keep up with calories as well as carbs. Got a lot of salt yesterday so scales are up this morning, but I'm sure it will be back down tomorrow.
Coralee Glad to hear from you.
Helen, Mary, Em, Karen and everyone else reading this
Trish - wow, I'm loving these cooler days, and the night temps are just so nice! I've been sitting on the back swing each evening, listening to the crickets, and enjoying the late summer.
Hello to everyone reading this.
Today I'm going to do some more sewing. I like to add a little length, about an inch, to some of my tops that have too-short sleeves, and have a couple of those to do. The extra fabric looks like it was there all along, and helps hide these upper arms of mine! I'm also going to cut down and hem another tablecloth to use as a diamond-shaped cloth in the center of the table. I plan to get outside for awhile, too.
I have a severe ear infection. I had to go to the doctor yesterday to get antibiotics. While there she looked at the x rays of my left knee. I have arthritis in all 3 parts of the knee. grrr.. will have to keep walking every day to keep me mobile I think. My doctor also said I need to take the weight off the knee so now I have more motivation to loose. I turned down medication for the pain right now. I just don't like to take a lot of medication if I can avoid it. so I guess you could say I am sorta bummed out this AM.
On the other hand, no hurricanes headed my way ...
Jane sewing is such a great thing. I was in Jo Anne's fabrics recently, so many lovely fabrics.. makes me want to break out the sewing machine. Emno crickets that I can hear, but that doesn't mean they aren't around. The noisiest thing we have are the tree toads in the spring. little guys big croak
Jane Never thought about adding to short sleeve blouses. I may check into that. I see so many cute blouses I would love to have but won't buy them. Adding to the sleeves would solve the problem. Thanks for sharing about it.
Chicpanda Sorry about the ear infection and the knee. I don't like taking a lot of medication either. I feel about some meds the same way I always felt about drinking. I never had a problem with people drinking, I just never knew how it was going to affect me and I never liked feeling like I was a zombie walking around. I take over counter sleeping meds from time to time and it makes me feel the same way the next day. So I just don't take any of that stuff if I don't have to. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Well, I guess I have my woe... carb/calories figured out daily and now that I received my first Diabetic Living Magazine yesterday, I also have my exercises pretty well planned. With the diet alone, my FBS is below where the doctor wanted it (hope my next lab work shows what my monitor does). And of today it is down below where I want it. I made my challenge for a minimum of 20 minutes of exercise, but think that the routine I plan to do (my own routine) it could be more like 30. The DL magazine had an article on exercises to do so I'm taking those and adding them to the routine I have already planned to do. I've been doing a few things a little bit each day to ease into more so I'll be ready for the challenge tomorrow.
Y'all have a great day and I'll catch y'all tomorrow.
Trish - I save hemmed sleeves and bottom bands of t-shirts and tops that I no longer wear, for this purpose. Since layering is so popular right now, they blend right in with what's current. I wouldn't care if they didn't, though, lol. The magazine Diabetic Living has some good articles in it! I've bought it sometimes just for the recipes, lol.
Speaking of clothes (I was, wasn't I, lol??) I took two baskets of my "Too Big" clothes in to a 2nd hand shop for Plus sizes, and got $70 for my things! Whoo hoo!
Also, I ran a bunch of errands and then washed my van when I got back home. I usually use the drive-through car wash, but wanted to get my exercise in for the day.
hi all --
ear ache still doing me in. I set up my Diet Pro at my lady's house today. that way I will have no excuse to not follow my food plan while I take care of her. The ankle surgery is scheduled for one week from tomorrow. We plan to do something fun this weekend, such as go to Tarpon Springs. We were planning to drive to the Atlantic but my ear kinda slowed us down.
Coralee - hope your earache gets better. Also your knees. Taking the weight off will help a lot. Even though I have a long way to go, having lost 38 pounds has made a tremendous difference in how my knees feel. I have arthritis in my right one. We have a Joanne's fabric store near me, and I love to go poking around in there. I get their coupons, and can sometimes get a good bargain that way. I looked at patterns online the other day, and found one for a skirt that's kind of gored, and has some sass to it. (Simplicity #3827) Now I just have to run in and get the pattern. Have fun this weekend. I don't know a thing about Tarpon Springs, but it sounds fun.
Hello to anyone else reading this.
Today, in addition to my regular chores, I'm going to take care of the 1st of the month paperwork, sweep off the porches and dust off the porch furniture, then pull weeds. Darn weeds!
A quick flyby here. Busy afternoon. Tony has to go have lab work to be sure is blood isn't too thin taking the coumadin. Then to Walmart for a prescription and a few groceries.
I think I've come up with a project that will also count as exercise. My rockers on the deck are weather worn and starting to peel. The kids love to sit out there when they come at Christmas time. So I think I'm going to sand them down and paint them. Just got to decide on a color. They are white, but I don't really want white again. Would like to pain them to endure the weather better. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to share.
Also Tony has never let me help with the yard work, but he really can't do all of it by himself any more. Our Pastor and the man next door have been doing it while Tony couldn't. I think I have talked Tony into letting me do the edgeing. I told him that if he would get me a lighter weed eater that I could do that part of the yard as well. It would be good exercise for me so I hope I can talk him into letting me do it.
Jane I used to love to sew when I was thin and when I lose some more of this weight, I may go back to doing that. I don't know of any cloth stores here in town. Will have to look or see what I can find online.
Coralee Hope you get to feeling better soon. Hope you can enjoy your trip.
Just a quick one today. No special plans for us this weekend.
Things are going good right now. Staying OP and got more than half my exercise done for today already. DH didn't go for the redoing the rockers so may just purchase deck chairs for when the kids come.
Those of you who may be in the way of hurricane stay safe. And y'all have a great Labor Day weekend.
Trish - glad that things are going good for you. I asked Neal about the weed eaters, and he says that if you buy a 8" electic one, it would be the lightest kind. You and Tony probably already know that, but just in case, I thought I'd share. You have a fun and safe holiday weekend, too.
Helen - I was thinking about your challenge, you might want to think about saying, Don't Eat Fried Foods, instead of Stay away from DH's & DS's French Fries. Then you could count a point every day instead of just when they have fries. Just a thought. If you do edit it that way, go ahead and change your points for yesterday.
grabec - to our little group! We're all in the same boat here, so just jump right in. I look forward to knowing more about you.
Hello to anyone else reading this.
I did a new exercise video yesterday, "Losing Weight by Lifting Weights" by Kathy Smith. Yowza! My butt cheeks hurt today, so it must be effective, lol.
The weather here is gorgeous today, and I plan to stay outdoors as much as possible. Before we know it, it will be too cold to stay out long.
Janewhen I lift weights I use cans in my cupboard.. may be I should incorporate a video too!
Pulled a package of mystery meat out of the freezer and am now frantically making turkey rice soup.. for the neighborhood. ....
Tarpon Springs is a greek community on the gulf that still is going strong, although mostly through tourism these days. The colony started as sponge divers and I think they still harvest sponges.. Their are many great restaurants. so I should find something good within my food plan.
doing the exercise tonight as this afternoon a nap grabbed me by the neck and threw me into my bed.
hello to the newbies I hope you enjoy the support of our group as much as I do.
