  • Hi all,

Emm - I just read your bio, and am tickled to find another Lonesome Dove fan. I just love that mini-series! We have it on dvd, and I watch it every once in awhile. Good for you, keeping the tempting foods out of the house. If it isn't there, we can't eat it!

Silver - you've been missed! Hopefully, when things settle down a bit, you'll be able to post more often.

Neal got sick as a dog in the night, and has the flu, which I'm sure he got from me. Poor fella! He's better now, but still looks peaked. Our DD lives next door, so when she got home from work & could look after Neal, I dashed to town for groceries. The grands will be here tomorrow night, and the cupboards were getting bare.

Hope your week is going well. TTFN!
  • Good Morning Ladies

Finally got on here. Never know if I'm going to get to this thread. I can get on 3fc fine, but don't seem to be able to navigate. I don't have problems any where else except getting to threads on 3fc.

Just in case I can't get on here tomorrow I will do this today.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANE!!! HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT DAY.

Em and Jane I too am a Lonesome Dove fan. I love that series and have it on video, but not sure I have them on dvd. I'll have to check that out.

Nothing new here. I've decided to order some lowcarb books for diabetics and will have to go back on a stricter lowcarb plan because I'm not happy with my BS #s. Tried doing it the way ADA suggests doing even lowcarb for the past 3 weeks and my BS#s and my BP stopped going down as well as the weight has stopped going down as well. However, at this point, I'm more concerned about the BS and BP going down than I am about the weight.

Well, I will be back here when I can get through.

Have a great day and weekend.
  • Jane, I hope everyone at your house is feeling better today.

Trish, which books did you order? Would you mind posting what you think of them?

I'm keeping on plan these days and especially enjoying my morning walks.
  • Hi Pattygirl, I am diabetic T2 as well and have a very handy little carb counter book plus Diabetes for Dummies which has a lot of very interesting info.
I actual forget that I am Db most of the time as mine is controlled by diet and I feel that whilst I am sticking to good healthy food regime it should encompass that anyway. So between that and going on the Spinabifida forum I have enough to think about.

P.S. About navigation problem - I found going to my profile and looking under "posts by" you will get all the posts you have done and then choose which one you want to click open.
  • Hello everyone! Our gs was here the last couple days (came Tues early eve) and left today. We had a nice time with him but I did use it as an excuse to overeat. It's going to be hard to get back into my diet as I was already having trouble. But I have to try. So far so good today. Haven't actually counted my calories, but have kept my portions small and watched my carbs.

I'm doing laundry today between other chores. Stripped our bed and still need to remake it but other than that and the laundry I'm all done today. We had "lightly fried" rice and lots of fresh vegetables for lunch. Gs doesn't like onions and garlic so I left them out but used a little bit of the powered kind and he took second helpings so guess he liked it. We got some pictures before he left. He will leave next week for college.

Hope you are all having a good day! It's been cool here but the sun is finally out now.
  • Hey Jane, thanks for asking! I don't get on here very often, taking 5 classes that are hard. But to your question, that BF is gone. I had many sincere talks with him about many things, he would agree, but then act as if we never talked about anything. Very controlling, threatened to call the police to "check" on me after I told him I was going to a neighbors. (We live 80 miles apart). Anyway, thanks! Hope you are doing well, see you all over this place giving so much support for all! I bet you don't know how much it means sometimes to those of us with no one in our daily personal lives.
  • Didn't make it to church today and no exercise for 2 days. Have had to run to the potty all day. Not sure what is going on. Plus my BP is up a little bit. I found out I was not supposed to be taking potassium so not sure if that has caused the BP to go up or not. I also put a lot of season salt on my roast I cooked the other day so that could have caused it to go up and may just be taking a few days for it to come day.

My FBS was 102 mg/dl this morning and was only 102 mg/dl 2 hrs afer breakfsst so that is going very well. I lost a lb this week which is good. So I'm happy about that.
  • Started out a wonderful day but then got very frustrating as I tried and tried and tried to transfer a VHS tape to digital! Finally got it going (I thought), it worked for 2 hours and we weren't sure how much was on the tape and thought I'd better stop it. But when I put the SD disk into my computer...there was nothing there! So tomorrow I'm calling them (found number online) as the instructions with the device are very helpful. I'm thinking perhaps the video did not get saved...It talks about replaying a "saved" video but doesn't tell me how to save one...there is no save button anywhere. So I have all these VHS tapes scattered about my family room and didn't get one transferred! Disappointing!

Other than that though it's been a good day. I watered our plants and noticed we have LOTS of tomatoes...some orange now. It's strange...the hanging tomato plant produced sooner and they have changed color sooner but the plant in the ground has much bigger tomatoes, all green though so far. I have a cucumber almost big enough to pick and some small green peppers and one small Japanese eggplant.

Nothing really to talk about and my leg is starting to hurt so gonna get off this 'puter.
  • Good morning, ladies,

Trish - thank you for the birthday wishes! I had a great day with the family. I'm glad your blood sugar is staying steady. Salt consumption can really play havoc with your numbers. If you do eat extra, maybe you should be sure and drink lots of water. I have to do that, too, just to keep from retaining. It's amazing how much more energy I have when I am hydrated.

Silver - I love morning walks, too, especially at this time of year! Fall just makes a person feel good, kind of like Spring does. YAY for you, staying OP!

Emaline - is it you that has spinabifida, or someone else in your family? If you already mentioned that, please forgive me for not remembering. I don't know a lot about it, but know that it presents some extra challenges. Tell me more about it, if you'd like.

Mary - do you get to see your grandson very often? Glad you had a good visit! Our dvd has a "finalize" option when we record something. It doesn't save it right if we don't use it. Very frustrating. I did transfer our old family videos to dvd, and then made copies for the kids. Hope your leg is better.

Gonnadoit - thank you for the kind words! And good riddance to the controlling bf. Sounds like you'll do much better on your own. How are the classes going? Which is your favorite?

Hello to anyone else reading this.

Ladies, if you haven't already added your birthday to the Age 50+/Golden Girls thread, please do if you want to share, and I'll edit it onto the master list. It's up in the Sticky area.

Yesterday was our anniversary, (yes, the day after my b'day, lol) so Neal and I drove to Evansville for the day. The weather was just beautiful, and it was good to go do something different.

Today I have to do some middle-of-the-month paperwork, and spiffy up the house, then I have errands in town.

    Have a good day!
  • Good Morning Ladies,

Up early this morning trying to get back to that as BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) starts Wednesday morning for me and I'll need to get up early each day to get lessons done. Seems if I don't do them early I get behind.
Blood sugar was 102 mg/dl again this morning and BP was 114/64 which is where I like it to be and way below where the doc says it has to be. I always thought 120/80 was normal, but doc says they like it to be 130/85 of less. So many things are different these days than when I was younger.

Jane Glad you had a good birthday with your family and belated Happy Anniversary. Glad you and Neal were able to do something fun. Good to know he got over the stomach flu in time for it. As for the retaining water from eating extra salt, I also read that I need to be drinking lots of water with the BP medicine that I am on as it is also a diuretic. Also after reading up on some of my meds, I changed my vitamins up a bit as I'm not sure I need all the vitamins I was taking since the meds takes care of some of what I was taking them for.

SilverLife Sorry I missed your question about the books I ordered. I ordered Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars". I think that is going to be a good help for me as I've been reading some excerpts from it on his website and reading what people have said about it on another a diabetic thread on another website. I've been trying to follow his diet plan just from what I've figured out and put together from reading on those sites and it seems to be working. I look forward to learning more when I get the book tomorrow. The other book is "The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes: An Essential Gude for the Newly Diagnosed by Gretchen Becker. I don't know anything about it, but it was highly recommended by readers of the Bernstein readers who did reviews on Amazon.com. I'll let you know what I think about it. I hope to get mine under control, lose weight and never have to deal with it ever again. I never want to have to take insulin. I had it about 15 years ago and got it under control when I lost about 70 lbs and stupidly gained about 60 lbs and of course the diabetes situation came back. I think from what I've read of Bernstein's plan, I will learn how to not only lose the weight and get control of the diabetes, but I will be able to keep the weight off when I get down to where I want to weigh. He is T1 and has kept his diabetes under control & takes no insulin, but takes oral meds for 60+ years. I had a SIL years ago who was T1 and she did the same thing. So I figure this man knows what he is talking about and I can learn something from him.

Mary Are your hanging tomatoes the ones they advertise on tv? I've wondered about those. What is going on with your leg? Hope it is better soon.

Emaline I saw the book Diabetes for Dummies at Walmart, but didn't buy it. I do have Dr. Atkins' carb counter book which will fit nicely in my purse when traveling. It comes in handy because it has the total carb and net carb counts for foods as well as fiber and calorie count. I have to use my calculator a lot because it allows many more ozs of protein than what I usually use. It also helps that so many foods have the counts for such on the packages. Even a lot of meats have labels with that info on it these days. I actually try to keep my net carbs between 30 to 40 grams a day now which is much lower than what I was going to do. Glad you are able to take care of yours with diet. That is the goal I have for myself.

This is getting long so guess I better close it off. I've got to get wash done today so I can do some ironing tomorrow. May have to go to the store tomorrow as well.

Sorry I didn't get around to everbody. So Everyone else that I didn't get around to

    Y'all have a great Monday!!
  • Hi Trish, First of all did you notice we have the same birth date except I'm 76!
Won't bore you too much about the Sb bit except to say that I was born when it was not a thing that was dealt with very much and the surgeon who closed my back left an awful ugly scar there. These days the ops are done with great finesse and very little "mess" left behind.
