Good Morning Everyone,

I'm still doing IE, but counting calories. I'm also learning how my body reacts to the food. Actually that part of learning came about by accident this morning. I bought wheat English muffins and made me a homemade Egg, ham & cheese mcmuffin. The only thing I ate that I hadn't had before was the muffin and boy did I get a terrible thumping/headachy reaction. It has gone away already without having to take anything for it, but made me realize that perhaps I should pay attention to how certain foods makes me feel. I recently read somewhere about someone else learning how food makes them feel. So I think I'm going to make that a part of this process as well.

I read yesterday that if you sleep 5 hrs or less that you can gain weight without overeating. So I'm back to trying to get at least 7 hrs of sleep which is what they said you need so as not to gain. Had to make myself stay in bed an extra 15 minutes to get the time in. However, I got the impression from the article that it doesn't have to be 7 hours all at once. You could have a nap during the day. I try to take a nap in the afternoon, but isn't always easy to do. Seems like when I decide to sit down and take a nap, I suddenly remember something else I need to do first and I seldom get the nap. Always figured if I took the nap that I wouldn't be sleepy at night.

Well, I rambled enough.

Carol Love the sound of your projects. I always loved those special switch covers. Your's sounds so precious. I bet the stones your DD makes are really pretty and quite the conversation pieces.

Jane I love B&B pickles. I'll have to look for the sf ones. I used to work with a lady who drank dill pickle juice to lose weight. It worked for her. As much as I always liked dill pickles, it gives me the shivers just thinking about drinking it. Can you imagine such a thing? Yuck poo!!!

Everybody have a great day!!!

Good evening, Ladies!

By the time I read through all the new posts in the SBD forum, I've already spent way too much time on the computer before I come over here. Sorry to be MIA.

Trish, I've been hearing more and more about how sleeping habits affect your weight loss, and I wonder if it really does hold merit? I go to bed at 10 every night, and get up at 5, so at least I'm getting in 7 hours. And I rarely get the opportunity to nap during the day. On the rare occasion that I do close my eyes, it's inevitable that the phone will ring or somebody needs me for something. I finally started paying attention to how certain foods make me feel, and have been avoiding the ones that cause me problems. I am feeling so much healthier and energetic. It's sad, though, that it's taken me all these years to finally realize that.

Jane, I used to go through a jar of B&B pickles in a few days, but it's been a while since I've last had one. Your snack does sound good, except for the pickled beets. I like beets, but not pickled. You were lucky to get to hear that cardinal singing. I thought I saw a robin today, but I was probably wrong. What with all the snow we have, and getting another possible big snowstorm Thursday, what would a robin be doing hanging around here? LOL!

Carol, you sure are a busy crafting lady! It's great that you have such a satisfying hobby.

I haven't done any crafting lately, but I have read a lot of good books this winter. I really enjoy curling up with a good book and a mug of tea on these long winter evenings. Before long it will be warm enough to start working in my garden, too. Usually we can plant some cold crops after the 15th of March, and I'm eagerly anticipating it. We had such a rainy spring and summer last year that rotted a lot of plants, and I hope we have a good growing season this year.

Good Morning, Ladies,

Well, I was up way to early this morning. Now I would love to have a nap, but have to leave in a few moments to go to my BSF meeting. So this is a quick one. Hope I'm alert for lecture time. Cold and rainy today so a dreary day. I certainly will be ready for a nap when I get home.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good morning, ladies,

Carol - you are one crafty lady, lol. Your items sound so pretty! And so does the table top your DD is making. Does she live close enough that you get to see her often? I haven't made anything for Christmas gifts for a long, long, time. Well, I did make a framed saying for my friends from church a couple of years ago. It said, "Let go, and let God" in pretty colors and a pretty font. Nothing special like what you're doing though!

Trish - I think you will do well with counting calories, especially since you are smart about choosing healthful foods. I, too, have been reading a lot about the lack of sleep causing problems with weight gain. Although I do have a bad night here and there, generally I get right at 8 hours sleep, from 11-7.

Linda - there you are! I finished the Kristan Hannah book True Colors, (very good, btw) and now I'm reading one my sister loaned me by Debbie Macomber, Where Angels Go. It features the angels Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, lol. It's very predictable, but a fun read all the same.

Hello to anyone else reading this.

We have many, many cardinals that live in the fir trees in the yard, so they are an everyday sight. I have yet to see a robin this year, but Neal has. One of my favorite birds is the rose-breasted grosbeak. Several of them come by this way every Spring on their way somewhere else. They are beautiful! We have a bird feeder on a post right outside the dining room window, and I love to watch all the birds.

I spent some time yesterday embellishing 3 t-shirts to fancy them up a bit. It's been awhile since I've done something like that, and having accomplished it made me feel pretty darn good, even if it was simple stuff.

I'm doing well with the food and exercise, and I hope you are, too.

Have a good day!

Well, I made it very well through the lecture at BSF. I got lost in my note taking and hope I got everything right. I'm home and as you might guess, I'm not sleepy like I thought I would be. I'm watching the Olympics Figure Skating that I recorded last night so I could go to bed early.

Jane Yes the calorie counting is working very well. After all the reading I did on calorie counting on 3fc and some other places, I decided to go with the cycle for a while to get things moving. I decided to use what I thought was high calorie count of 1800 cals. Rounded it off. And ate close to that but never made it exactly that high and amazingly the scales started moving downward again. I guess what they say is true. I wasn't eating enough. I guess those of the old school of lower calories have to learn that we were wrong. I did read here on 3fc that it is recommended to start at around 1800 for a week, if you don't lose go down 100 calories a week until you get to the place you start losing weight. I like that idea. I am choosing healthier foods and also variety. It is strange that I avoided calorie counting for so long (counting anything as far as that goes) and now this has suddenly become so easy for me. I am totally enjoying it. One thing that has happened, is my attitude. Like IE teachies, I eat only what I like. I also realize that I don't have to eat a whole serving of something. Example, I love Klondike ice cream bars and I found them with NSA. I find that 1 is too much for me to eat. So I cut it in half and eat one one day and save the other half for another day. Don't know why we dieters think we have to eat the whole serving of something.

You girls have fun with your projects and your reading. I'm going to watch my recording. Catch y'all tomorrow.

Trish, I'm glad you got through that lecture just fine. Are you enjoying the figure skating? It's one of my favorites of the Olympics. I really enjoy the ice dancing competitions, and thought all the skaters did a beautiful routine. My heart went out to that Canadian skater who just lost her mother. What a courageous young lady! I hope you were able to catch a nap today!

Jane, I'm glad you liked that book. You'll have to read Firefly Lane, as I think you'll enjoy that one, too. I like Debbie Macomber's books featuring Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, and have read all of them, I believe. I just finished a really good book, Shanghai Girls, by Lisa See. Now I'm looking for something else to read. Your shirts sound like a fun project. Did you embellish them with rhinestones and sequins?

I have off the next 4 days, and I'm really looking forward to it, even though we're supposed to get another foot of snow tomorrow and Friday. I had planned to strip the wallpaper in my bedroom and paint the walls, but I don't think I'll get to that if I have to shovel snow all day. At least I can count it as a workout.

Linda Yes, I've enjoyed the Figure Skating. I too was heart broken for the girl whose Mother died. I'm sure it was not easy to go on, but I'm sure her Mother would want her to. The ice dancing was so excellent that I told Tony that I don't know how they could choose the winner. They all did such a great job that you wanted them all to win. They don't have the mistakes and falls like the other. I'm sure it is very difficult to judge. Enjoy your days off and yes I think shoveling snow would definitely count as a real workout.

I'm doing the calorie cycle and today was my high calorie day and boy was it hard to get all those calories in, but I really want to do this to get my metabolism fired up and the weight going down. Didn't quite make the high cal target, but close enough. Next 2 days are regular calories and I am really glad. I had a dream years ago where someone was forcing me to eat and I really felt that way today. But I made it OP. Yea!!! Will make the rest of the week go easy. May only do this for 2 weeks at the most.

I ordered 3 Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds dvds today. I like to exercise in the mornings while Tony is sleeping and we haven't been able to work the video machine since we hooked up the blue ray dvd player. Besides the dvds will last longer. I am actually looking forward to getting back into an exercise routine.

Goodnight all.

Evening Ladies,

Jane--I use other patterns, but always seem to change them. Haven't followed any directions 'by the book' in quite a few years. It takes me longer but then it's more my style when I'm finished.

Yes, daughter lives 9 miles from us. Don't see her often now. She use to be a sub for sign language interpreter teacher (worked when she wanted) but she took a full time position this past school year with the high school, so our fun days have been shortened. I took lunch to her last week so I could visit.

I try to give gifts that I make to our friends. They all enjoy home made/painted presents.....less expensive for me, plus I get the fun of trying a new pattern.

I bet the shirts are darling! I love painting on jeans shirts. So comfortable and no ironing. The best kind!!

Was wondering if Debbie Macomber was a 'clean writer'? I enjoy easy reading mysteries. Have you ever heard of "cozylibrary"? Great clean authors listed on it. Found out about it from the ladies who work at the library sales.

Bet those cardinals are beautiful. Do they stay around all year or just in the winter?

Had to go google the rose-breasted grosbeak. Such a pretty bird!

Linda--So glad I have a hobby that gives me so many smiles, and I can be indoor wen it's hot or cold outside.

Chat more tomorrow,
Carol

Hi ladies,

Trish - I will look for the nsa Klondike bars, since I do like a little ice cream once in awhile. It's not a trigger food, though. You will like the LS dvds, I think. I like her, and the walking, but I'm ashamed to say I have to be distracted when I exercise, and like to watch a tv show, or listen to my iPod to help pass the time while I exercise. Yay for you, staying OP.

Linda - I plan to pick up Firefly Lane when I go to Evansville next, since Vincennes has no bookstore. I'm at the mercy of whatever Walmart has in stock, which is mostly those vampire books! Wow, you've had lots of snow this year! Enjoy your 4 days off, and I hope you get to work on the bedroom. I would like to re-do the den/playroom while Neal is gone for a few days next month.

Carol - clean writer - as in not dirty? Yes, you would like her books. For those who knit/are crafty, she even has a whole series about the same people in a town in Washington state, starting with ...oh darn.... I can't remember the name but it has "knit" in the title, lol. I'm glad you get to see your daughter at least as often as you do. One of mine lives next door, and the other lives about 50 minutes away. My son lives in town, but has plans to move out her in the country this year. Our yard is full of cardinals all year long, and a couple of the males are real show-offs, lol.

Teresa - please pop back in and let us know how you are.

Hello to anyone reading this!

I'm headed to town after lunch, with many errands to run. One thing on my list (if Walmart has it!) is Danielle Steel's new book, Big Girl. I tired of her repetitive style of writing years ago, but am curious about this book, since it deals with an overweight woman. Might just flip through it, to get a feel for it.

Have an OP day!

Trish, I've had those Klondike Bars, and they are pretty good. But they're a trigger for me, as is all ice cream. And I just could not imagine only eating 1/2 of one! You remind me of my DIL. A spoonful or two of ice cream, and she's had enough. If only.

Jane, it's nice to have our grown kids and their families close by, isn't it. My son lives about 2 miles away, and my daughter lives about an hour away. Even that's too far, in my opinion.
I think the Debbie Macomber knitting stories are part of the "Blossom Street" series, if I'm remembering correctly. One of the books, I think it's called Twenty Wishes, or something similar to that, was really good. Let me know about the Danielle Steele book. I used to read all her books, but they were always so predictable. I still pick up one of her books every now and then, though.

Carol, your friends are really lucky to get a homemade gift from you! I'd rather have a handmade gift than a store bought one, any day!

It's been snowing all day, but not accumulating much. They're still calling for 6-12" though, with the bulk of it overnight. I ran out earlier to get a few groceries and go to the post office, and the grocery store was packed with shoppers with their kids. All the schools were closed today, in anticipation of a nasty storm, and it's not bad at all. It's a shame that they will have to make this up at the end of the school year.
Well, I'd better go put the finishing touches on supper. Jake wanted "Slum" today, which is basically a thick beef stew, topped with biscuits and baked in the oven. He grew up on that and raves about it. Whatever makes him happy. I made a pot of Hobbitshire Soup for myself, and that will last me a couple of days.

Carol - the 1st in the series of the knitting books is called A Good Yarn. I remembered it, finally, lol.

Linda - I read Twenty Wishes and enjoyed it very much! Slum stew sounds good to me. What in the world is Hobbitshire soup? Sounds very British!

My Wally World did have Big Girl, in hardback, and I bought it. I'll let you all know what I think of it after I get started.

Well, guess what I didn't buy? SF bread and butter pickles. Seems they no longer carry them! Phooey! So I bought regular, and the calories are still fairly low. The only SF pickles I saw at all were baby gherkins, which I do not like. That's one bad thing about Walmart, if you see something you really like, you better stock up because they may not have it next time you want it. I also couldn't get any nsa Klondike bars.

Later,

Linda - the soup sounds very good!

Trish - you have a good weekend, too.

Hello to anyone else reading this.

I'm down 2 more pounds today. That helps make up for the .6 last week.

I'm spending the day with Caylin, then this evening, Neal and I are going to a community play, "Barefoot in the Park". I saw the movie starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford (hubba hubba) back in the 70s, and it was a cute show. Neal offered to take me out to eat, but I passed on that. I'll get more food for my calories right here at home.

Have a good weekend.

I hope everyone is having a super weekend!

Jane, CONGRATULATIONS on your continuing weight loss! That's fabulous! The play sounds great, and good for you for opting to eat in, where you can control the calories. Have fun with Caylin today!

I'm waiting for my daughter and youngest granddaughter to get here. They only live about an hour away, but with the traffic it can sometimes take a couple of hours to make the trip. We're just going to spend a nice afternoon here at the house, and I'm making a lasagna for them and my husband, and a butternut squash lasagna for me. The sun is trying to make an appearance, but it was snowing hard again for a while earlier. Sometimes I think this winter will never end.
