Merry Christmas to all my friends here in the Golden Girls. We had a lovely day starting with a special oatmeal pudding for breakfast and then with MIL over for dinner. It was quiet with the kids not around but we watched baby GS open his gifts via webcam. He was quite unconcerned over all the festivities and sat happily playing with the boxes that his toys came in. We talked to everyone by phone and wished them all a Merry Christmas. Our youngest DS will be here tomorrow so it begins again, hahaha. I ate enough for 2 maybe 3 people but considering I had about 1/3 of my plate filled with cabbage I didn't bat an eyelash over the full plate. But I could hardly eat my dessert. It took some deliberate concentration on my part to demolish the martini glassful of trifle. (It's amazing how much trifle can fit in a martini glass.) Needless to say I'm not hungry for supper. DH ate even more than I did and is not hungry either. I washed dishes in 3 sessions and had a nap in between. DH offered to help but I told him to relax and that I needed some activity after such a big dinner. He was fine with that. The kitchen is now all cleaned up and supper is not going to be served and if anyone gets the munchies later on there's lots of fruit to nibble on. It's been snowing on and off all day long but it's dark now and the soft lights of the tree are lighting the room. DH wants to go for a walk around the neighborhood so that will be my official exercise for today (besides our winter challenge stuff).
Zoe, I'm vegetarian.
Lynn, thanks for that explanation on the fish. In Newfoundland it is traditional to eat boiled salt fish and potatoes with molasses raisin bread on Christmas Eve. Our family never did but my uncle always had that and so did many of our neighbors. My DIL was busy yesterday making raisin bread so I guess her family kept to that tradition.
Thank you all for the lovely graphics you've been posting. Makes everything look so festive.
I have good news and bad news. Good news, my foot has finally healed, according to the Dr. Not sure I am willing to take his word, since he was so tottaly wrong last time, but this time I saw the X-rays and there are signs of healing. so I can stop wearing the cast and wear a regular shoe. My Best Christmas present. Bad news, I have the virus that has been going around. Sorry i've been missing, but the last 3 days has been spent in bed. I am up a bit today, but still feeling bad, coughing, headache... the usual.
Welcome to all the newcomes. I look forward to getting to know all of you.
Lynn, we all have our own traditions, but the fish is an interesting one. 7 different kinds? or just baked, broiled, fried, poached, roasted? and that is only 5 and I can't think of any more. OH, pickled. one more.
Everyone enjoy your loved ones today!
Freda
Hi Freda,
7 different kinds. We had scallops, escargot, clams, crab, lobster, calamari, and Fish Food ice cream.
I think there are actually specific foods that are part of my SIL's family's tradition (including eel), but my DD & I pick the kinds we like.
I had a nice day ~ got to spend time with daughter Sara's family (grandkids Corbin and Maddie), visited with Mom and Dad and daugher Jennifer and her husband Mike by phone. Then went and spent a little time with son Jason and his girlfriend at Jason't place. He had one of those fire pit things, so we sat out around the fire and visited ~ it was chilly, but the fire made it nice.
Jennifer shared exciting news ~ she and Mike are expecting in July. Another grandbaby to enjoy.
Sorry for the absence. One of my brothers died on Monday and we are on our way to NYC in about an hour for the funeral tomorrow morning. I will be back...I promise.
Deena.....sorry for your lost, especially a dear brother. I had a crappy Christmas, we were snowed in, no travel on our country gravel roads My two brothers/wives and two sisters/spouses are town people and all made it to the Christmas party at my dad's. They had a good turnout considering the weather. We missed our Christmas party with daughter/hubby and grandkids too! All their gifts are still under the tree, we'll take them in Sunday and just skip Christmas this year. I'm taking the tree down and all the Christmas decorations and pretend it never happened. I'm really bummed. DH and I ate meatballs and Christmas cookies all day yesterday, made me feel not quite so bummed out. Today I refused to weigh myself, I don't care if I gained. I did go down to the torture chamber and jumped on my new stepper that kills my knee. I'm going to check out some other type of stepper/stairs thingy today and buy the most expensive one I can find. I'll be in a better mood tomorrow, I promise. I just need to get all the holiday stuff packed away and outta site.

Hi Bobbi,
I am so sorry that you had a sad Christmas. Hope you enjoyed those meatballs and cookies.
Everyone,
I'm going to see Nine today with my book club ladies. I'll let you know about it when I check back later. Saw Avatar with my DD & SIL - VERY interesting - too many battles.
Good Morning, All... from (can you believe it???) SNOWING in Colorado....
Deena, I'm sorry for your loss. No time is good, but this is such a sad time to lose a family member. And, Bobbi, your delayed Christmas with your family will be more memorable, because you won't be competing with all the crass commercialism. It'll just be Christmas.
I feel bloated and icky and my sister-in-law last night said she couldn't tell I'd lost any weight, except in the face... guess I need to redouble the effort, and I'm happy to do that. I don't feel well, physically, having put on a few lbs. this month.
Lynn, I'm anxious to hear about Nine... some of the cast members are really good actors, so I'll be interested to hear about it.
Is anyone making resolutions? The given for me is weight, so I'm not even going to list that one!
Relax and unwind, everyone... Have a good weekend!
First the semi-good news: I weighed myself, as planned, on Thursday, and lost 3 of my projected 5-pound loss for the month. Not great, but better than nothing.
Now for the downright bad news - I'm pretty sure I gained them back yesterday. It started out with a chocolate chip cookie straight from my daughter's over, and well....you can probably guess the rest of the story. SO ridiculous. I could kick myself. (or ask someone else to do it for me? LOL) (But can I tell you how delicious everything was? No? Oh, okay.....)
Deena, I'm so sorry for your loss. Awful anytime, but soooo sad at Christmas. My condolences to you and your family.
Bobbi, oh, I'm so sorry you were snowed in for Christmas! What's going ON with this weather, anyway? It's been so extreme! Well, it'll be fun to make your gift deliveries - maybe invite folks for a New Year's day lunch or something, and exchange gifts with them then? That way, you could leave up your decorations and have something fun to look forward to! Think about it - could be the start of a new tradition!
We had a good day except for the overeating part. I feel like I'll be starting all over again, now, with working towards my goal - three steps forward, (probably; I'm NOT weighing myself!!!!) three steps back.
The little twins were a delight. Both are teething like crazy, of course, and trying to chew on everything in sight, but they did like all the new toys. I'm going to try to post a picture. We'll see what happens.
Oh, and Sue - Institches? I think I left you out of my Christmas greetings, and didn't mean to, naturally - so - a belated Merry Christmas to you! I hope your day was a happy one.

Zoe.....adorable babies, I love them! Too late about New Years Eve tradition, I took all the decorations and the tree down today. I kept track of my steps going up and down the basement stairs, 598 steps. I also packed up my stepper and will take that dumb thing back tomorrow. I ordered a new stepper over the internet that glides, counts steps, etc. And it has handle bars to hang unto. I will do some sort of steps to stay in the challenge, maybe run up and down the stairs many times a day. It's 13 steps down so I can rack up 25 steps in one trip, I'll think of something. Tomorrow is a new day and plenty of time to get back OP everyone, enjoy your Sunday!
Zoe, I LOVE those beautiful babies! You are VERY lucky. All I get is cats!
Nine was WONDERFUL!!!! I LOVED it. However, I REALLY love musicals. This one is reminiscent of All That Jazz. Related to the theme of creativity and obsession and overindulgence. Nine has a much more upbeat ending - at least no one dies.
