Hope you all had a glorious weekend!
Getting ready for our trip to CA for the holiday weekend. The Girls have their reservation all set for their regular suite at the doggie hotel. I have so many more cute clothes than I've ever had I'm having trouble decidiing what to pack
Getting really concerned about the way the scale is bouncing though - Afraid I'm going to have to adjust my ticker up another couple of pounds again! Not sure what the heck is happening since I'm still being really careful about my eating and logging in FitDay - all that happy stuff. I was threatening to drop calories all the way back to 1200 until my metabolism gets over the shock of not having the nicotine boost any more. Looks like I'm going to have to make good on that threat - Thanksgiving or not.
Have a wonderful day ladies
Hi YoYo,
When I first quit smoking, I gained a few pounds. They came back off. To up your metabolism back up to nicotine-based levels, just up your daily exercise - this will also help with the cravings.
Evening people. Bobbi, those stuffing muffins look really good. I made a cornbread stuffing off the Martha Steward site over the weekend. It had pomegranate seeds in it and it was delicious although I didn't like the pom seeds because of the hard center. I'd never had cornbread stuffing before and I was pleased with it.
Anyone have any good lo-carb ideas for appetizers? We're going out to dinner on Thanksgiving, but I'm supposed to take appetizers to my DD's earlier in the day.
Other than celery stuffed with Laughing Cow, & shrimp, I don't have any ideas.
Thanks again for all your warm support Lynn and Karen3 Feeling a little calmer and more collected already. Posted in another thread that refocusing on my food logging got me to notice that, while I've been keeping the calories in line, I've gone off on a fruit fest again - can we say CARBS I did read an article that says blood sugar can drop during nicotine withdrawal so I betcha my sneaky little bod was sending subliminal messages that made me plan more fruit into my day to make up for it.
You are so right Lynn I really do need to up my exercise - and be more consistent than I have been lately . I've been struggling with it the last couple of weeks - and for some reason that dumb ankle I sprained, like 3 months ago, has puffed up and is achy for no apparent reason and a compressed disk in my lower back has gone wacko - I'm blaming these aches on the nicotine withdrawal too can't possibly have anything to do with getting older Let me think, what else can I blame on quitting?.......
Taking my laptop on the trip so I'll try to pop in and post a little. If I miss anybody ~ Have a PERFECT Happy Thanksgiving

YoYo,
Don't underestimate the difficulties of nicotine withdrawal. Your body (as well as your mind) is going through a LOT. Be good to yourself during this time. You are doing a WONDERFUL and BRAVE thing. Treat yourself kindly.
Some things that helped me - doing jigsaw puzzles - keeps your hands and mind busy; coloring while on the phone - buy yourself a good coloring book & BIG box of crayons; do some type of exercise whenever the urges get bad.

Ooooh! I LOVE the coloring idea! I may go pick those up tonight and color during the drive to visit relatives this weekend! DH drives like a madman and I usually smoke like a locomotive - emphasis on loco - when we take long trips so I was a little nervous. Certainly not taking any little respite in cravings for granted though. Enjoying the fact that I can go longer and longer stretches before one smacks into me but still bracing myself for them so I don't get taken by surprise.
Gosh ladies, I apologize, this isn't a quit smoking forum and I'm sorry I seem to keep hijacking the thread to natter on about it
Yoyo, quitting smoking and losing weight have got to be the two hardest things to accomplish and you are doing them at the same time. You must be feeling so much better.
I am also nursing a sprained ankle after coming down some steps and landing on the side of my foot about a week ago. I was headed for the elliptical when it happened and was really bummed when I had to wear an ankle brace for a few days. It is still swollen and I haven't been able to do any exercise involving my feet.
Lynn, nice to hear from you too. How I envy you on your upcoming travel. We were in France about 10 years ago and my goal at that time was to visit the area that my grandfather fought in as an American soldier during WWI. He fought near the Argonne Forest. His brother (my great uncle) was killed there and is buried at the American Cemetery and Memorial near Verdun. My grandfather died at the age of 96 so I was lucky to know him a good part of my adult life. He was 100% French, so fighting in the country of his ancestors meant a lot to him.
We are going out of town for the rest of the week so might not get a chance to post. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday.
Evening all...Just trying to type over my lower lip that's hanging down on the keyboard. Everything is ready to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner and our company just called and canceled. Gesh...DH and I will be eating Thanksgiving until Xmas. I'll cut back on stuff but still alot for 2 people. EEEERGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
YoYo...I take the little puzzle mags with me in the car. They help pass the time and easy to handle. Like Lynn I did enough jigsaw puzzle to give them later to the senior center. Take a apple in the car...when the urgh to smoke eating the apple will give you a mouthful, some sugar and clean your teeth. Especially if you can keep the apple chilled.
Reward yourself!
Well, off to snuffle in my pillow....But actually kinda glad to be alone for the weekend. Oh Dh just brought me beautiful yellow roses with
red edges in a tall smokey glass vase. He said he wanted me to feel happy....ahhhhhh.... sometimes 50 years isn't long enough to say how nice a guy he is....Karen3

Hi Lily,
We'll be in Normandy as part of our trip. I just checked Wikipedia (I'd shoot my students if they used this source!) - it has a VERY nice write-up about this battle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meuse-Argonne_Offensive

Hi Karen,
Sorry about your former company. Hope you and your DH have a wonderful time with each other.
