Active Folks Over 50 is a place to talk about fitness and healthy eating information as it relates to weight loss and/or maintenance--and also about any work, fun, hobby, or volunteer activites you're engaged in. In other words, the active part of your life!
Just a few guidelines for this thread:
- Raves about grandkids or ranting about your kids is out of bounds.
- Lengthy discussion of your illnesses, conditions, treatments, and medical procedures in general is also out of bounds on this thread. So is whining about old age!
- Positive stories of vacations taken, volunteer work, or achievements at work or elsewhere are highly encouraged! As are recommendations for books, movies, discussions of weight related issues, etc.

Gosh, did we all make it to May? And will CountingDown ever get that bike? What's up with everyone today?
Sunday is going to be a quiet day for me--nothing planned except the usual work and chores. This is the time of year when all my neighbors pick up and go back north for the summer, so it's getting kind of sparse around my community.
Am motivated to post by the brand new thread for which I'm not behind, LOL.
Just got my old (35 years old!!) ten speed Raleigh Grand Prix 10 speed tuned up to get started riding again. It's in great shape, needed a bit of lubrication and adjustment along with a new chain and reversing the rear sprockets to get wear on the backs. Then I went to REI and bought a new helmet, so I'm ready to roll. Plan to use if for trips to the local farmer's markets this summer - combine some exercise with gathering the fresh vegetables.
Looking for tips on buying rear panniers for carrying the purchases. Anybody have suggestions?
Another and mild day. Must get out and about for a little bit -- but since I spent sooooo much money yesterday, I'm going to try to stay away from the stores.
HI all! I spent much of today cleaning my sewing room closet. I don't sew much any more, so it was a task that was LONG overdue. It's a big walk-in closet, so it took about 4 hours to finish. One more closet to go, to meet my goal.
The youth at church are having a rummage sale to raise money for a mission trip. I thought it was an excellent time to purge. I can't believe how much JUNK I have squirreled away in the last 19 years. Sometimes, I think I should move every 10 years, just to force myself to deal with it.
I'm down 2 lbs. for the week, which is a very rare thing these days, so I am delighted
Hey Bill! Haven't seen you for a long time! Your bike sounds too cool! I like older bikes--that one can actually sit up on and ride, instead of having to hunch over. Is that what yours is like? I hope you get it all fixed up and have a blast riding!
Hi Jay - My old Raleigh is a classic bent down handlebars that require you to lean over. I keep my hands on the upper part (with brake extensions) so it's closer to sitting up.
Took it out today. First Light was a trip to the supermarket to buy polenta and lean hamburger to make Barbara (BlueToBlue)'s Tamale Pie. Bike rode great; Tamale Pie is a keeper.
A quick fly-by to say that it was a GOOD day. POP and - drum roll - I have a vendor that says he is shipping my moped tomorrow. I SO looking forward to parking my car in the garage and scooting around on a bike that takes 10 cents worth of electricity a day
Hope you are all having a GREAT start to the week.

I have never posted here. Been off line for a year because of no phone line where I live. Got back on line through a satelite connection which I love. I am a Steel Magnolia and decided to lurk about this evening. I found this area and wanted to say howdy. I like your "rules" ~ I am not a whiner nor do I like to listen to them so I just thought I would stop in where I felt comfortable.
Have a great evening folks and I just may come back and type at you later.
And good morning to everyone else . . . So far the day looks overcast and for a change I'm fine with that. I prefer this kind of weather for the 90 minute drive to the airport and once I'm plane-bound to Ontario, I'll be above the clouds anyway.
Don't know if I'll be around much for the next few day, gang -- but you never know -- I might get lucky and find a computer. See you soon.
Bill, I'm glad your bicycle is so much fun. I had a bike some years ago, but I ended up not riding it very much. What I'd like is one of those "touring bikes" with the wide seat and high handlebars. One can find them, but they are expensive.
CountingDown, I hope you have that Moped soon! it looks very nice!
I hope some of our other regulars pop in...
Things are good here. I went to the gym yesterday--and tried to take it a little easy with the weights since I was sore from using the pressure washer on Sunday.
Countingdown, I love your bike! Wish I had enough nerve to drive one. I'm frightened to death on bikes.
Hi Maggie, nice to meet you. How'd you live without a phone line??? Glad you've got one now.
Today I've decided to dust. That must be done. I also have a half dead zucchini that must be cooked/baked into something and sweet potatoes that are begging to be eaten. So today, I'm devoting my life to housework. Now, that wasn't so hard to say, was it?
Hey! I never checked out this thread before. May I join? I really, really love the "rules" as I refuse to give in to creeping old fartism.
Meowee is coming to visit me and I'm pretty sure I can trust her on my computer. We may even go for a walk or two with my dog. (I am getting active again after something we won't talk about. )
