Would love to join your group!
Hi everyone -- I found my way over to the 50's group -- yeah!
I have set a goal to get 4kg off by mothers day -- since I am starting again (for the 100th time) I hope this is realistic. We're living overseas at the moment, so the scales are in kilograms -- hey it is kind of nice getting on the scale and seeing numbers that you never thought you would in your life -- and then you have to double it and the reality sets in:dizzy: Thanks for letting me be a part of your group -- I look forward to the support! I suppose you all are still sleeping since it is early morning here -- so have a great day today! Blessings! |
Just a quick note - Karen3 - you surely DID save a life yesterday! Good for you - my hero!

Mornin y'll..:welcome:..Welcome......LouMak. The ladies here will be glad to have one more chickadee! Your post says 4:42am. Must admit I was still abed.
Got a dozen emails last night about my partner. Seems the ER nurses told her husband I had saved her life. That kind of feedback doesn't happen often in my career. Something you just do. Now have get her OP and decided to engage the entire bridge club....she'll have the support of 150 people. Think I have the begins of anthropological study. gotta run take care of yourself, eat healthy and hugs..karen3 |
Good Morning . . . :grouphug:
Wowee, K3 . . . you are definitely due for a :high:. Even at my very worst, I've never been that high. I know how awful I can feel if I happen to hit the 300's (16 to 17 on my metre). I'm suprised your friend was able to remain upright. She's very lucky you were there. LYNN . . . You may be sure about those dead relatives, but the bureacrats of the world will always want proof. I've got somewhat the same kind of problem. Need to get a new passport (over five years since I renewed; so have to start over) and I cannot 'remember' the exact date of my marriage or divorce from #2 (a piece of my life I'm trying to block out, I guess :s:), nor can I lay hands on the documents at the moment. At least I do know I can get those records, eventually. Good attitude about the scale, LAURIE . . . . . . some times you just have to outwait the little . BTW, we have heavily overcast weather right now, but no snow . . . so far . . . but it is in the forecast. :( We will miss you PATTI . . . . . . Hope you have a great trip. :welcome: to the group LOUMAK . . . and :wel3fc: also. We will all be looking forward to getting to know you better as we travel down the bumpy road to better health and fitness together. Hate to tell you this, but, you have multiply the kilograms by 2.2 to get to pounds (we use metric in Canada, too). Now, having said that, I think your goal of 8.8 pounds by Mother's Day (approximately six weeks away) sounds doable; bottom-line, of course, even if you don't get rid of the whole 4 K, you will definitely be lighter and healthier than you are right now . What kind of plan are you following? Now . . . ME . . . not much planned for today . . . just going to sit around and wait for Laurie's kind gift of the snow I guess. Might have to have a nap -- I was up way to early this morning. Just about the time you were posting Lou, I got up to go to the bathroom and 'discovered' that Mouse (my big grey hairy cat) had thrown up right in front of my bedroom door. As you can imagine, by the time I cleaned my foot and the carpet, getting back to sleep was not in the cards. Well, guess I'd better get myself moving and shaking. Lots of places to visit around 3FC . . . see you later . . . :carrot: |
Good Morning LYN and K3 . . . you both snuck in while I was writing my novel.

Oh what a beautiful morning, oh what I beautiful day, I've got a......
OK, never mind, now that song is going to run through my head all day  sorry if it gets stuck in yours too :o Wow! Karen3 you surely are a hero! And great idea getting the whole bridge club involved. Every little bit of healthy encouragement helps. I can see you all now using doing seated leg lifts as an excuse to kick your partner under the table  :welcome3: LouMAK terrific bunch of Golden Girls in this group. Come by often. Look forward to getting to know you! Have fun on your trip to Virginia PhillyGirl. I bet it will be beautiful. Are Dogwoods blooming yet? ewww, bureaucracy. Linda & Lynn that's pretty much a swear word in my book. I've never had a passport (sad but true) but family is talking about a trip to Italy and I'm simply dreading having to go through all that mess. They really want to know dates of divorces? Isn't there a statute of limitations or something that makes them just disappear from history :p Lyn sorry to hear that your community lost such a cherished character but it is so nice to know there are still small towns (villages?) around that are true communities that care about the loss of one member. Eesh Cat fluidity at 5 am?!? I am actually up and about around 4:30 but hoisting a coffee cup to my lips and lifting my leg over the edge of the tub to get into the shower is about all the energy I can muster that early :D Busy planning my weekend getaway (I know, I know, it's still 2 days away but that's the first thing I learned from 3FC - Plan, Plan, Plan :D ) Gonna take my resistace bands and an emergency bag of raw almonds in case the rest of the troops are thinking fast food for lunches. I know the restaurants where we'll be having dinners so I can stay OP for that meal and most of the coffee shops have fruit plates available for breakfast but those lunches have me nervous. :grouphug: Beautiful day to all. |
Hi Everyone,
I'm waiting for the TV repairman to come fix the on/off switch on my TV. It sometimes works & sometimes doesn't. For sure, it will work just fine when he gets here. I've been having a LOT of trouble with after-dinner-eating. Last night I managed to overcome the urges, but they are REALLY strong. I'm trying to NOT have stuff in the house that will tempt me, but I can get REALLY creative when I'm being overcome by my "Chew." On Easter - after a day of sticking to my plans perfectly, I gave in and ate around 400 calories after dinner. Anyone have any good ideas? Lynn |
Hmmm Lynn Besides brushing your teeth or swishing with mouthwash, the best idea I can think of to fend off after dinner noshing would be hop on line and post away. Take a glass of water with ice cubes for chewing on (maybe make some "flavored" ice cubes by adding a little juice or, my fave, drop a grape or other piece of fruit in each section of the tray) and find a thread or a blog that really piques your interest (or do some more family tree research for that DAR application :D ). Or, if you haven't seen it, the Chicks In Control board has a whole thread where you can go post what you feel like binging on and talk yourself out of it. If you're anything like me, you'll get so involved in what you're writing that next thing you know it'll be beddy-bye time and food will have been successfully avoided.

Good Morning Golden girls, The sun is shining, always a big plus. It's still cold out but a hint of spring to come. I actually had a day off today. Nothing urgent to be done, no kids, no dinner to worry about. I made a huge pot roast yesterday so it's left overs for us. I did go buy another charm today. I know i'm jumping the gun a bit but I wanted a charm for each of the grandkids birthdays. If i should gain before the end of the month I won't put it on the bracelet. The place where I buy them is some distance away and I was near there.
karen31, thanks for sharing the pictures with us. Are you sure you need to lose weight? You look good. Gayle, I always bribe myself. It works for me. YoYo, I hope the feeling of contentment continues. I think it's wonderful that we finally come to terms with things and feel good with ourselves. Rosey, I have a day to myself too, at least untill my husband comes home from work. Ain't it grand? Karen3, Your bridge partner had all the classic symptoms of diabetes. Good thing you were there to recognize them. And 2 good things have come of this. one, you saved her life, two, you have done some diabetic teaching here too. Laurie, You walked outside? I'm looking forward to the day.... patti, Have a wonderful trip. I think things are beginning to green up down there and it's warmer. Lou, Welcome!!! Come and visit often. It's a wonderful means of support. The gals here are great and have a lot of information about a LOT of things. Everyone have a good day, Freda |
Hi, me again. I just read something that I really want to share with you. One of the health magazines are saying that white potatoes have actually gotten a very bad rap, and are really quite healthy. And that they do not raise blood sugar the way we've all been told. Lots of fiber and nutrients.
Of course, if you're had them and found this to be the opposite, go with what you know, and has been proven with your body. But we get misleading information all the time. Remember when eggs were strictly a no-no? And the lower the fat the better. We now know that eggs are great if not eaten in excess and some fats are very healthy and necessary. Just wanted to share this, especially since my lunch was a baked potatoe with lowfat sour cream mixed with salsa. Freda |
Lynn, a couple of things I snack on at night are my "yogurt ice cream" recipe, South Beach "peanut butter cups" and trisquits (or another type of whole grain cracker such as Mary's Gone Crackers) along with a wedge of laughing cow cheese. or I have a sweet AND a salty. I just can't go without a snack of some kind at night since we have our big meal at 2 in the afternoon. I will have a salad or some leftovers around 5 or 6, then a snack around 7 or 8 while watching tv and winding down for the day.
I think I posted my "ice cream" recipe, but if not, here it is: Take about 3/4 of a cup or so of FROZEN fruit and put it in the food processor and whirr it up till the pieces are small. Then add a little agave necter (or splenda ...I like vanilla splenda) Then add about a 1/2 cup of GREEK yogurt to it and whirr again till it gets all mixed well. It tastes like a cross between sherbet and ice cream. really yummy. But only make as much as you will eat in one sitting...it doesn't freeze well at all. I've tried all different kind of fruit and fruite mixes and they have all been good. I usually can't stand frozen fruit, but it's great in this and what gives it the "ice creamy" feel. |
Morning everyone.. sunny and cold here today..the dh got back from the cabin yesterday..glad he had a safe trip..the cabin is really in the "boonies" ..our dogs made a real racket at 3 am.. stray dogs in our trash..after all the barking and woofing my dh got up and delt with it i pretended i was asleep(hee Hee)..i weighed this am.. wanted to know what damage i had done ugh 10# gained since i was in Minnesota for my mom's funeral..emotional eating for sure but started back onww yesterday..its great we can fix our mistakes..now if id just learn to not backslide :?:..so far so good..not to hungry and staying busy.. i threw out all easter left overs so there's no temptations..hope u all have agreat day ((hugs))) rosey

Howdy y'll...It was a lovely quiet day at bridge!
Pattie...We expect a detailed report of Va. Thought you went a few weeks ago and looked up area on net. Neat Place! YoYo...I hate that song. Even in H.S. yearbook had that I hate that song. Thanks been humming it all day! I got my passport a month ago. No sweat. Need your birth certif with raised seal, fill out form(can do on line) a passport photo(walgreen's 9.99) and then to county office with check for I think $90 more. Had it in about 3 weeks. Lynn...For after dinner eating watch the Brit Doctor's show on TLC..."I can make you thinner....." You'll end up tapping like me. Hate to admit but it does help. Freda...you called it on Diabetic teaching. Have fielded a dozen questions from other older diabetics on basic things. Actually scary when you realize how much they don't understand. First one the morning was surprised when she told me her BS was 60! I started yelling eat.....quick have some OJ. I can't tolerate white potatoes but sweet potatoes occasionaly are a big treat and OP.(baked) Linda...I have been outside flapping my arms sending warm Spring air up to you. We are mowing grass down here. Rosey...Way to go. Tossing that old nasty candy was the perfect way to jump start. Good girl. Omy forgot to tell you that when they carted off my partner yesterday she left a 15"latte whip cream drink. They gave it Roscoe a 93 yrs old. Spent all nite thinking he was probably out there dancing on table tops. Maybe humming too.:dancer::dancer::dancer: Oh well, take care of yourself, eat heathy and hugs....karen3 |
My son decided it was time for Rupert the little blue duck to get swimming lessons. I had to get a video of it...adorable. And yes, I made Beau scrub out the tub when Rupert was finished with his lesson!
