You're right, Meowee, that verse of those lyrics is great and appropriate for any age. What really got me tickled was that when the song first came out, that verse kind of made me think of rebelion against parents...sneaking out of the house and doing whatever I wanted etc. (Even though the song is really about him basically "cheating" on a girlfriend and living off other women's money) So, it brings to mind to me "doing whatever I wanted" as a teenager, sneaking out the house etc...so to see a man "of a certain age" singing that, I found it really funny. I could just picture him sneaking out of "the home".

Hi Everyone, It was such a nice day yesterday. Milder weather and the sun was actually shining. So nice out that I wore a sweatshirt shopping insteady of the usual heavy coat. Hope it stays and brings in MORE warm weather. I think my husband said it was in the 50's yesterday.

Karen31, Prayers are being sent out for you and your father. I hope when you get back home you get some good news about your house too.

YoYo, The time change hasn't bothered me much but it's driving my poor little dog crazy. He goes to the front window every day to wait for my husband to come home from work at 4. At 3:45 he stops what ever he's doing and goes to look for him. He doesn't understand why that's not working amy more. It takes him a while to get adjusted.

KC, Thanks for sharing family pictures. Aren't grandchildren great? If you would like to share a recipe you there is a space on the top of these posts that is for that, or you can share them here. We're always looking for new recipes. I like to make something someone has already tried. A lot of the things you find in the magazines are really BAD. I want to join the Red Hatters when I don't have to work anymore. Seems like such a fun group.

Linda, Glad you didn't get as much snow as you were expecting.

PhillyGirl, Enjoy your trip.

Cat, Good to see you again. The house just seems so quite after everyone leaves, doesn't it? But that quite will be gone when you son moves back in. I love the old 60's music too. When I see some of the groups on TV I always wonder, "do I look that old too". I know I do, but it doesn't seem possible.

Everyone have a good day, Freda

Good news on the scale this morning... lost 3 pounds this week!

Had a good on plan week, got most of my exercise and plenty of water in!

Son returns overseas on Thursday! Will spend the weekend with us, then set out to Boston to see his sister and visit with his children...has been great to have him around. His teen brothers enjoy him so, and look up to him. We all will look forward to his eventual return to the area late this year or early next year.

Lots of company this weekend to visit my son...lots of cooking going on with good options! Prayers please for WILLPOWER at the buffet banquet on Sunday for the basketball team! Thank you...

Will check in over the weekend! :hug:Bethz

Morning GGs

I love seeing all the "old" guys who are still performing and singing their old stuff. Not too long ago we saw Kenny Rogers and one of the really fun parts of the concert was when he did What Condition my Condition Was In with a video of the 1st Edition behind him (you'd be surprised how many of us remembered enough of the words to sing along :D ). Even he made fun of the lyrics but I remember when that song first came out and my friends and I thought it was sooo deep.

Other fun thing about going to "old guy" concerts is watching their new and very young crop of fans. Went to see Tom Petty and was standing next to a kid who probably hadn't even been concieved yet when the song the band was doing first came out but this kid was totally in to it and acting like it was a brand new song written just for his generation. Of course, the new fans are shoulder to shoulder with all us old hippies reliving our youths :D I also love remembering the time my youngest stepson came home one day just sooooo excited about the cd he got of this cool "new" band. It was Aerosmith :lol3:

Only working a half day today - getting taxes done then going to see the doc. Probably doing this in the wrong order. I can just see my BP being through the roof after seeing the tax lady :stress: This will be my first checkup since implementing "The Plan" so I'm a little nervous. Trying really hard to avoid a whole laundry list of meds he threatened me with if I wasn't able to get things in line by improving my eating :crossed: Wish me luck.

TTFN :grouphug:

Oooh, BethZ I was posting and missed yours. 3 lbs! :bravo: That is so great! Buffets are tough (belive me I know - being here in the buffet capital of the world) but you CAN find reasonably healthy choices. And here is some :dust: to keep you from straying to the dessert line :)

Hi All, I'm just so excited! I actaully went for a walk outside today. To all you Southern gals that might not seem like a big deal, but to us stuck up here in the winter-wonder-land it's BIG. Ok, so i had to wear my coat and gloves, but the sun was shining and it was so nice to get some sun on my face. (shielded with 20 sunscreen of course).

You crack me up YoYo, I could heardly believe it when Ton Petty played at half time this year. Someone asked me if he was new. And one of the kids had heard "the first cut is the deepest" and thought it was new. The old is new again.

Beth Yeah!!! 3 lb. is awsome!! You are doing something right, girlfriend!! I know that will give you the incentive to make good choices at that buffet table, along with YoYo's piziedust!

Pixie, Welcome! Come often and post lots.

Freda

hi y'all....Boy have I turned me upside down! Last night took an cold pill and went to bed. Read awhile and took a cold pill. Woke up at 9:30 this am with my face sealed to the pillow case in dry drool. Am almost awake now. Did anything major happen in the world while I was gone? hehehhehehhe:D

Hi pixie....Welcome to a great site for support and friendly gals.

Bet....Double wow on 3lbs. Must ask are you a retired teacher? Looking at your pencil/ladybug

YoYo....just love you. You get my jokes!:dizzy:

Philly....Where in the world is Fancy Gap, Va? Sounds like a town out of novel.

Got the darnest letter from the USPO yesterday. Enclosed was the front page of my monthly bridge bulletin magaine says we tore it but it's all better because we admitted we tore it up. Yup only missing about 60 pages.

I have gotten the full daily dose of water into me, but apparently cold pills are appetite suppressant and have not been able to eat enough today. That will crush my diet for sure. OMG if I have to start over on level one I'll cry.

Do as I say(not as) take care of yourself, eat healthy and hugs...karen3

Good Morning . . . :grouphug:

My official weekly weigh in has me 2 pounds above my ticker. I know exactly what it is, of course, but that doesn't make me feel any better about it. I had a major carb-binge yesterday and am now hanging onto extra water big-time. Hopefully I'll be back to my ticker again soon -- I plan to stay away from the carbs and drink lots of water this weekend.

Don't know if carbs affect everybody the same as they do me, but for me . . . think about throwing a piece of bread into a shallow saucer of water and you get the picture of how my cells react. High sodium (as in Chinese Food) has the same result. Actually, I'm not sure which is worse. Pizza  really does me in because it will combine both the sodium and the carbs all in one place.

No big plans for my Saturday . . . just going to sit around and watch the latest snow storm move in. Well, guess I'll do a little gazelling and maybe some light weight work to while away the time and let me think I've been active.

Hope everybody else has better weather and lots of great plans for the day. See you all later . . .

good morning y'all....It is nice to be back on real time instead of the zombie day like yesterday. Won't know until Monday if I screwed up my level.

5 thats 5 more days until Spring. Just 5 days! :carrot:

Decided to go to PBS last night to see if could catch the old tunes. Nope, but The 3 Tenors were singing. Paravarotti had such a magnificent voice. Wasn't the blast from the past but still beautiful.

Be extra careful today is The Ides of March. What a wild week coming up....St Pat, 1st of Spring, Purim, Good Fri, Easter!

Take care of your self, eat heathy and hugs....karen3

Karen3 03-15-2008 10:08 AM

PS...Linda we must have been posting at the same time. I'll race you to the spigot. Between the 2 of us should consume buckets of water this weekend.

Beth....making a difference tickled me. my sister was a school nurse, at Clemson U, and her motto was "attempting to make a difference especially in birth control.....pause.... and failing miserably."

hugs,karen3

Another ps....jumped on the scale and have renamed the scale to "Et Brutus"......karen3

lynard21 03-15-2008 08:53 PM

Hi all...Congrats to those "losers" this week. I got on my brand new digital scale this am and was down 2.5 pounds! Not bad.

My DH and I took a rambling ride into the backwoods country today to go to the "Maple Tree Inn" in Short track , NY. They are only open during maple sugaring time and serve the very very best buckwheat pancakes and real maple syrup. On the way down, two huge wild turkeys swooped over our car and we saw lots and lots of deer. Then we meandered further down state to a friend's cabin and maple sugaring operation. We helped him empty buckets of sap and skied a bit (I fell three times and thought I'd never get back up again), and then ate homeade chicken soup and bread. It was in the high 40s and the sap was running beautifully. We got the first taste of syrup off of the evaporator. Yum. Then we drove back a different way and stopped on a whim to see some old friends of ours from Dansville (where our DDs were born). Hadn't seen them for about 20 years! We had a great visit, heard all about their grown kids, and then wended our way home. What a perfect day.

The scale may be up a bit tomorrow. Oh well. 10 more working days!!!!

Lyn
