It was lovely outside yesterday! My walking was all errand running but it was good.

Hello everyone
I am new to the site and think this may be the group for me. I can completely relate to hot flashes, night sweats, overweight, stressed and need to move and lose. I read about the Best Life Diet on Oprah's site and this seems doable but no drinking sounds very hard. Have any of you tried this diet? Any tips would be great. I am a professional who can accomplish most anything they throw at me at work and at home but can't get this weight issue down. Never have been able to. I find trying to carve out exercise time almost impossible due to long communte into NY, demanding job and total exhaustion after years of doing this. I see that many of you walk daily. Any tips for how long, speed, etc. I am hoping being part of a group will help with my resolve. |
Checking in...
Hi Girls!
I was embarassed :o and didn't check in on Thurs because I wasn't able to walk. I'd forgotten a Retirement luncheon at work (when I normally walk) and had "trying child syndrome" when I picked up my normally fun-loving daughter afterwork. It was everything I could do to get supper, bath, and bed. (Besides it was raining on and off). The victory for Thursday was that (despite the munchies) I didn't give in. I ate healthy. Friday, after good eating choices and walking 45mins, I still had the munchies and for supper I had FF cottage cheese and 2.5 individual serving bags of chips. Despite the fact that I ate 900 calories in one sitting, (NOT GOOD) I learned that "munchies happen" and I simply need to be prepared with better choices. If I'd have had my normal cut veggies ready, I'd have had veggies and dip (salad dressing) instead. I just didn't have anything ready. It's the crunchy chewy response I'm evidently craving...ok...ICE would have worked. Wish I'd have thought of that! I think also forcing myself to write things down BEFORE I put them in my mouth will make a difference. Saturday, I walked a REALLY good pace pushing a stroller for 40 mins plus I kept myself moving as much as possible (including stores). Sunday I had planned to each JUST my sugar free muffins at 20 carbs with my coffee after church. Yet, I had a sweetroll as well. I really need to find away to "deal" with this and change my habit. Any suggestions? The scale has been "bouncing" a bit lately. 236 to 233 and some in between. I'll be happy with the lower numbers as they come. It's supposed to be in the 90's today at lunchtime. It'll be great - like a sauna and a workout at the same time. I'm wearing my "short socks" so that I can get a better tan on my legs. Helene - Glad you joined us. I'm a single mom, with the no support, single income thing going on too. I can sincerely relate. Kimush - Glad to hear you're feeling better! SusanB - Thanks for initiating the walking motivation...it's really helping me. Diane (Slashnl) - have you found a way to put walking in your daily routine? Clydegirl - We missed you while you were gone. How long was your family get together? I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to fit my fitness routine into a 2 week vacation with my family this summer. I'm thinking walk, walk, walk will be the key...Any suggestions are welcome. Gotta run, well, ok walk... Cammie |
Hi Cammie wasn't me. I wish I had a family reunion. I haven't posted in a few days but I've been lurking.
It's been so blooming hot here I haven't got to walk for a few days. We went to see "Surf's Up" on Saturday with my youngest. She enjoyed it. Stayed around the house yesterday and let hubs do what he wanted. It was Father's Day his choice . so he watched Grand Prix, US Open and then barbecued. |
Monday's Report
Hey Ladies:
Walked for 45 mins in 94degree weather today. I'm going to try to get some cross trainer time in as well when I get home. (That may be somewhat difficult as tonight is a "heavy cook" night...no not talking about myself, just my list o things to do...;) So far the nutrition plan is on track (573 cals so far and it's almost tea time...3:30pm). :coffee2: Clydegirl - Sorry :o...I misuderstood Family Fun Day...I guess in my mind it involved extended family because I'm looking forward to visiting extended family. Go figure: multi-tasking is all but out of my capability. "Surf's Up" was cute wasn't it? I took my daughter who enjoyed the music but thought there was simply too much dialogue (she is only 2 so much of that is translated from her response). :D How old is your youngest? The endorphins must be kicking in...I feel great and it's Monday with a "to do list" that's still a mile long. Gotta get running on the list. Cammie |
Cammie my youngest is 10. She loves all the cartoons. Last one we saw was Flushed Away which I enjoyed.
The soundtrack to Surf's Up was excellent lots of good music in there. Family fun day was a thing on Friday at the base where my husband works. Sorry didn't realise that's what you meant :) I don't do well in this heat and you must have the humidity too. Mind you if you're near the beach you can always go for a swim. :coffee2: anytime is tea-time.I do love a cup of tea. |
:grouphug:Hey Everyone...:grouphug:
:welcome3: greyokeefe ... :welcome3:I am a Best Lifer and have been since Jan 22/07 love the plan...very simple...I am an abstainer and so the lack of alcohol is a no brainer...but the plan is so doable...and I have lost the weight and it hasn't been too traumatic and tragic...in fact except for this set back and then one about 4 weeks ago all was good...and so...I need to just wait! Nothing new with me...Canada is so crazy hot...so I have to beat the heat the best way that I know how...last night I was going for a walk at midnight...but we have to be careful around here as we have had a peeping tom and some real weird stuff happening lately...so I need to take pepper spray just incase! :rollpin::frypan::kickbutt: In fact it is so hot I will be bathing (cool water) and then I will be going for a walk! Yeah! Cool air! :running: Hey Cammie...You are doing awesome...and really making some really good solid choices so what about maybe planning treats to cheat with...one that I love are sour jujubes as they have so few calories and no fat...I found that when I planned the treats the same way that I was planning all my meals it worked so much better...and the bouncing scale maybe H20 and heat and sodium...I asked my sister who said that in this weather we are retaining some of our water as it is a survival thing...from when were cavemen! Fabulous I wonder if they invented the preparation h...:yay: |
Morning! I dodged walking yesterday. I did run a book back to the library but I sauntered in sandals :D

Hey everyone. Thanks for the welcome.
Kimush:Thanks for the words of encouragement. am doing my best on the Best Life diet . I am starting on the food and exercise part and will cut back on the drinking. Can't quite resign myself to totally signing off but already mood very improved. Think evenings are the hardest when I just fall into the rut of TV and wine. BAD Combination. And eating before 7:30 is hard too. Hey one day at a time. And time to find a life beyond TV. The encouragement of the group is tremendous as well as the amazing results of all of you. Look at that SusanB! And I love the weight tracker. |
Hi Everyone! I'm not quite 40 yet but I will be in Feb'08 and I think I would rather join this group than to join the 30's and feel that I should leave in a few months. Besides I am actually looking forward to turning fit and 40!!
I'm married with 3 sons:dizzy:(10 almost 11, 7 & 5) I've been overweight my whole life and am finally getting the weight off:joker:I'm a walker too, I do 3 mile walks about 3-4 times a week. I want to get back up to 6 miles like I did years ago. Looking forward to joining in on the conversations:D |
Wow, Yann welcome :welcome3: Look at the weight you have lost that's impressive. How did you lose so much weight?
:congrat: I just looked at your before and after pics and you look amazing. |
Thanks Clydegirl for the big welcome:hug:I had the lapband done March '06, but I still have to eat right and exercise.
|
Welcome Tann! Congrats on your weight loss! I'm looking forward to getting to know you!
Also, not sure if I already said "welcome" to Greyokeefe, but "Welcome" anyway, if not!!! |
Hi new folks! I think I've seen Tann around the boards but she's a mere shadow of her former self ;)
I did not walk today either. I worked, took my neice out to dinner and I'm now cramming in some housework. Then bed! |
:grouphug:Hey Everybody...:grouphug:
:tantrum:I can only pop into tonight as I am still stuck in trial preparation and my time on the stand is Thursday morning...Weigh in day...good omen? :cloud9: bad omen? :badbat: who knows? Anyways... :welcome3: to Tann :welcome3: Anything that I could say would be trite...but in the true social worker spirit...you are someone to be reasoned with...:congrat::congrat: Greyokeefe...the eating before 7:30 am or pm? is it the Breakfast thing as I have NEVER :barf: eaten breakfast and I struggle but perservere and eat rice pudding when I am really feeling just gross...I find that if I am not doing something in the house...sitting outside (when I dont have a peeping tom issue)...mending things...doing paperwork... I also chew gum if needed or plan my cheating...also as Susan B will attest to...JOURNALLING is the thing to do...it makes us accountable and gives us a reference to go back too...Right Susan B :listen:(See I listen!)... Susan B ...We were really hit with only a little rain and a lot of grumbllings of thunder very distant...so I just did a lot of stuff in the house tonight (vacuumed/washed my floors) and then got some groceries...and maybe by 11pm it will be okay to walk...I am hoping :crossed: |
