I'm in the Ivy League now...

:^:Hello Ladies!
I've spent today dragging around town from my doctor and pharmacy to my daughter's doctor and phramacy because we've evidently touched some poison ivy. I itch from my neck to my arm to my tummy! My daughter's got it on her legs. (Try telling a two year old not to itch :nono: when you can barely stop yourself!)
The day's exercise was tubed so far. I'm determined to salvage something though so I promised DD that I'd take her to the swimming pool :swim: in order for me to get some water jogging in. (Besides that, I had a "frappe" (low fat, no whip) for lunch today. :nono: Not exactly low sugar! But I didn't add any calories with an additional "lunch." We're back to veggies and low fat cottage cheese tonight, so I'm determined not to get down on myself for my poor choice of lunch items. (Although I do wish that there was a low calorie substitute available for the icey frufru coffees that I like so much.)
Ok, back to focusing on the slender me that I'm working towards.
If only the poison ivy somehow burned calories this would be easier to endure!
Sorry, I'm itching, I've got to go.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend! :sunny: :beach:

Munchies

Hey Jo,
I was just re-reading your post.
I know how hard it is to keep my fingers off the munchies (which my daughter eats and I oggle and sometimes have one serving of).
But keeping myself outside (or away from the snacks) has been my saving grace. (Of course it also got me the poison ivy, so, I'm not sure how much I'd recommend it!) We have also instituted the evening walk/bike ride. Instead of watching TV from 7-8 (after supper) we go outside and walk, or ride my bike. It's been a blessing because when I come back in the house and get the munchie urge, I ask "Is it hunger or that I want something in my mouth?" Mostly, I want something in my mouth. So I hit the water or (if I've got a sweet tooth I drink) lemon water. It's not a fail safe, but it's been helping. (Not that the scale says anything really different, I just feel less guilty at the end of the day. Which for me, is a victory even if it's a NSV.)
I'll check with you next week to find out how you did with the "reduced sugar" lifestyle over the holiday weekend. I know it will help me to have to answer to you on how I did avoiding unnecessary sugars.
Thanks for "being there" and "being with me" on this part of the struggle.
Cammie

I've recently joined Physicians Weight Loss Center and am just starting on my weight loss journey. Has anyone tried PWLC? How successful were you?

Clydegirl 05-25-2007 08:35 PM

Welcome Jaxbarb. I've never done PWLC but just wanted to say hi. My husband is from Jax. We haven't been back for a couple of years.

Hi Jo was wondering where you were. Our schools are finished on Wednesday. I am not ready for summer vacation yet. My oldest back from uni has not got a job yet. She's been busy with all her theatre stuff but that doesn't pay. My middle daughter will be doing driver's ed this summer. We went and bought a wee car today, used. As I was having to share mine with the oldest and now middle daughter wants to practise all the time. It's scary taking her out.

I did enjoy visiting the colleges. I found it to be a very exciting and interesting time. I would love to do that now.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

:grouphug: Hey everyone... :grouphug:

:welcome3: JaxBarb to the group... :welcome3:

JaxBarb...Nope I have never done that diet...I've never done PWLC what does it entail...:dunno:

Cammie...I have been really fortunate and haven't had poision ivy but I have a lot of food sensitivies...so I frequently get hives...you know what helps penaten (baby bum cream---zinc cream)...I swear by it for almost everything and for my age I have next to know wrinkles and look considerable younger...now that could be my polish blood lineage (my Babcia looked about 15 years younger than she was)...

Susan B...Yes that damn dreaded buffet...I have had chinese several times but I generally have the egg foo young and chow mein...I generally stick with the veggies...But man this was so bad...I really wrestled with the scale and weighing my self today...but...One of the guidelines of the Best Life Plan is to weigh only once per week...so now I am stuck..so I will just wait till next week...and the journalling...is :blah: :blah: but I think you are right...it will keep me honest and aware!

And yes Jo You are right...chinese is beyond terrific...glad you are back...I missed you!

Thanks for the welcome Clydegirl and Kimush.

PWLC is a physician supervisored weight loss program. They put you on a low cal (800-1000) diet as well as giving you daily vitamins and other supplements along with weekly B12 shots. I'm hoping it will give me a jump start to get me back on track.

Kimush - I love your graphics!

Is that really me 05-26-2007 01:58 PM

Quickie post here -- I've got 10 minutes b/4 hubby gets back from dropping off Julie's dinner, which so (of course) forgot to take w/her!

Cammie -- I also find that as the weather gets nicer and I'm outside more I do tend to eat less. I go for hours w/out really getting hungry -- probably the heat squelches the appetite too -- and I don't munch as much. Of course, sometimes just getting my butt off the sofa and going out is the challenging part some days! lol I'm just trying to cut down on sugary stuff. Eating alot of it makes me so tired and lethargic, then that leads to not moving and munching. It's a never-ending cycle, isn't it? And boy do I feel your poison ivy pain. I'm so freakin' allergic to it. I used to get it as a kid riding the school bus w/all windows open I'd get it all on the side of my face! Got some the other year, don't know what it was. Poison ivy tends to start in a "line" of poison on me but this thing was a huge welt of poison something on my wrist. NOTHING helped. It just oozed and oozed. I finally started using perioxide and it dried it up. I've even gotten p.i. in my eye and had to get Prednisone fromt the doc. Nasty stuff that ivy. The chlorine in the pool might help dry it some too. Hope you get relief soon!!

Clyde - my oldest (yes, Julie the forgetful one :)) w/be 17 the end of July and still hasn't gotten around to taking the permit test yet. She wants to learn but just kept putting it on the back burner. She had to take the SATs twice. Now that she's done we're going to push her to get her license. I'm tired of 10pm pickups from work! The thought of her driving is fine w/me -- it's all the other lunies out there that make me nervous. You can teach the basics but only time and experience w/teach them how to react in certain situations and near-misses. Yes, the college search is interesting indeed. You get different information from each visit. I can't stand the thought that she won't be here but I'm so excited for her. I wish I had gone away to college. I got my associates then went back part-time at night while I worked. I finally went back a few years ago -- the 42 yr. old college student! -- and got my bachelor's in bus. admin. in Dec. of '04. Definintely not the way to go!

Gotta run right now. Will be back soon though! TTFN

Jo

:grouphug: Hey There Everyone...:grouphug:

Jo...Here the heat hasn't kicked in but we don't eat well when it is too hot either...Hope the poision ivy clears up! :goodvibes:

Jaxbarb...The graphics are in the "smiles more" area...I just love them...I can't remember but someone on her told me where to find them...So that diet is medically supervised...Sounds really interesting...I think that someone else on here was doing something similar (Metabolic Research)...

Have a good weekend...Well whatever is left of it! :encore: :cheer2:

Slashnl 05-28-2007 10:12 AM

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. It's been really nice here! We've been spending a lot of time at the baseball field. We have the Junior College World Series here and it is a great time. Lots of great baseball and fun! I think I'll only go to one game today because I really need to get some things done around the house. You all know how that is!

Cammie: Hope the poison ivy has cleared up. I don't think I've ever been "in touch" with that. It doesn't sound like a good time! I've been pretty lax about keeping up with yard work. The kids are so busy all the time and we're running a lot. I just put that on the bottom of the list! But I need to get out and do it. I really enjoy it and yes, someday!, my yard will be how I want it to be! BTW, any other thoughts about your surgery? I hope you are doing better with that added stress!

Clyde: Sounds like you are in the middle of driving world with your kids. I haven't reached that point yet. I wonder if I keep ignoring it, will it go away!?? Guess not! I just wonder if my kids will magically get responsible enough to be able to drive. So far, I don't see it!

Jo: You said something that I just totally agree with. It absolutely drives me crazy when hubby or kids come up behind me when I'm on the computer. It is just not for their eyes all the time. It just sends me when it happens and I would think that they would figure it out when I minimize everything and look at them. A little privacy please!!!

JaxBarb: I have talked to another lady who is doing a similar diet. I'm not sure if it was exactly the same thing, but sounds close. She is doing really great with it. I guess she had tried it before, but had trouble with the transition from the diet to a regular maintenance plan, and she put the weight back on. But she's back on it and has a really specific plan for maintenance and she's really excited about it all. Good luck!

Kimush: So, have you started journalling? I wasn't sure. I am still dragging my feet on that. I just wondered how it was going with you? I know that there are so many that feel it just works wonders.

Susan: I've been seeing your posts in other areas. I always like what you have to say! You're very positive and practical!

Well, better close this novel. I'll talk to you all later. Work has been ridiculously busy, so I have to wait for weekends now!

srmb60 05-28-2007 10:53 AM

Thanks Diane! I've been accused of being perky :dizzy:

I coulda sworn I posted a Good Morning here this morning. What the hey ... Good morning again!

Slashnl 05-28-2007 12:21 PM

LOL, Susan! Perky is a good thing! (well, unless it is morning, before coffee...)

Have you tried Sugar Free Torani Syrup and fat free half and half? With some crushed ice and a blender you can make a pretty good coffee smoothie. There are tons of flavors of syrup - some are made with Splenda, some with NutraSweet. I find them at Smart and Final...dunno if you have Smart and Final where you are. My favorite flavors are Almond or French Vanilla.

djmommy 05-29-2007 10:28 AM

HI new to this thread just starting the best life diet....Been on ww and tried the sb. I have a thyroid issue and I sweAR everytime I start a new program something happens to me......I workout 4-5 xsa week. It is my eating that does me in.....However I just woke up Saturday morning with heal pain...Yikes yep Ithink I have that plantar fas thingy. My brothers are podatrist so I need to put a phone call in to them. I did go and buy anew pair of good tennis shoes. They have a gel pack in them so hopefully that will cushion my heal....I did walk 3 miles today and they felt fine. We will see how the day takes off.

Poison Ivy i the worst...My ds just had the worst case of it. He had to go on a steroid . I was using a steroid cream on it and THAT did not even work. Poor thing he is fine now..second time having it...I have heard rubbing alchol works well too.

Looking forward to chating with you all and hope for a success this time.

JaxBarb 05-29-2007 10:23 PM

Thanks, Diane. I'm off to a good start and hopefully, I won't have the transition issues (if I ever actually get to that point). If I can stay away from the stress eating and chocolate binges life will be wonderful.

Kimush 05-30-2007 09:39 PM

:grouphug: Hey There Everyone! :grouphug:

Hey :welcome3: chick_in_the_hat and djmommy:welcome3:

chick_in_the_hat...None of those names sound familiar to me so I bet being from Canada we can't get it here...at least not yet! :hun:

djmommy...I am glad you joined this thread! :cheer:

jaxbarb...I love chocolate and could really use some but my allergies are not too terrific so I don't dare risk eating any and it is too hot to contend with hives...:frypan:

Slashnl...What is the saying you can never be too rich...too thin (oh yes you can!)...or too perky! :bubbles: :bubbles:

SusanB...I am journalling...I hate it...but I am doing it...my daughter will be analyzing it for me! As she is a vegetarian (for almost 10 years now) and monitors all her nutrient and mineral intakes very carefully as she doesn't want her hair becoming brittle and breaking off (happened to her one friends)...:stars:

Tomorrow is weigh in so hopefully last weeks gain is gone and maybe more...I have reall kicked up the steps and have done 4 days of over 10000 steps... hopefully that works...:encore: :cheer2:
