Wow. A higher goal for Misti and Melissa can't wait for strength training! What's happening to us!!??

60 min on weights for me today!

Vilandra485 11-12-2006 03:22 PM

wyllenn - 60 minutes on weights...sounds like a great session....I get mine done in about 10 minutes (shoulders, chest, back, abs, biceps, triceps, and calves are my staples...for now I'm leaving the lower toning to my walking) and repeat it 2-3 times to get a longer/better session...what do you do during yours? Exercises, weights, reps, etc...if ya don't mine me being nosy. :D I'd love to do some longer sessions! :)

It's an evolving process as I started working with a trainer about 6 weeks about. Before that I was doing a BORING 20 min routine or so. I really recommend at least a couple sessions with a trainer to show you the machines/exercises. Form is important!

Anyway, for now it's 13 different exercises. A lot of what takes a while is the 60 sec break between many of the exercises. Also, some of the exercises are done 1 limb at a time, so it takes 2ce as long.

Here is my routine from today. I expect it to evolve. Eventually I think I'll move to separate upper and lower body routines.

Chest Press – 25 kgs /15 reps x 2 sets
Row – 75 lbs /15 reps x 2 sets
Shoulder Press – 12.5 kgs /15 reps x 2 sets
Flys – 60 lbs/15 reps and then 65 pounds /12 reps
Delts – 35 lbs/15 reps and then 50 pounds/12 reps
Vertical Traction – 37.5 kg /12 reps x 2 sets
Back XT – 60/20 reps x 2 sets
Tris – 30 lbs/15 reps x 3 sets
Bis – 25 lbs/12 reps x 2 sets

Squats – 60 lbs/12 reps x 2 sets
Leg Press – 170 lbs/ 12 reps x 2 sets
Leg Curl – 60 lbs/15 reps x 2 sets [each leg separate]
Leg XT – Right leg 30 lbs/15 reps x 2 sets
Left 20/15 reps x 2 sets

Right now I'm using machines, but we will be moving to free weights over time. On some of the machines I may have reversed the kgs and lbs, but that's it! I go 3 times/week.

Oh, and I also have a separate ab/core routine that takes me about 20 min right now, 2 times/week. PLus yoga x /week

Yowsa, I'm doing a lot, as I'm trying to get cardio in too (though that isn't quite worked in yet!)

SOrry girls, I'm slacking on my scheduled exercise these days, but I do have 50 minutes of weights to report.

50 + 7487 = 7537

Zeitgeist 11-12-2006 09:08 PM

2 hikes this weekend.

Personal: 395/950

Group: 7537 + 240 = 7777

(cool number!)

Vilandra485 11-13-2006 04:05 AM

wyllenn - Thanks for the info! I use free weights - I can't afford the gym right now...and I much prefer the "no excuses" route of having everything at home! :D I do about 3 sets of 12 on average, except on calves I do about 3 sets of 25. I was thinking about starting to use my resistance band again for some variety. For now I'm working pretty much everything besides my butt, hamstrings, and quads...but I think from my uphill, downhill, and flat surface walking those should be toned from that. When I lose some more weight I might add exercises for those on later if needed. How long have you been doing strength training? Have you lost alot of inches from it?

Vilandra485 11-13-2006 04:11 AM

22 minutes of strength training tonight! I would've liked another 10 minutes or so, but TOM was making it kind of uncomfortable today. New totals are:

Personal Total: 618 + 22 = 640/1200 - 560 minutes until goal.
(533 cardio, 107 strength training)

Group Total = 7777 + 22 = 7799
Still a cool number, lol :D

Did my WATP this morning. Even though it's the same workout I've been doing for the past 4 weeks (wow, I just realized I'm in my 5th consecutive week!!), I really really upped the intensity. I get up by 4:15 as it is, so I don't have time to do a longer workout, so I just decided to try to make my 30 minutes more intense. I really focused on keeping my abs super tight as much as possible, I added some arm movements even when Leslie was just using legs, and I really focused on getting my feet and knees as high as possible during walking, kicking, and knee lifts. Oh, and I stole tips from my Tae Bo tapes and made sure to really "snap" my kicks as hard as possible but without ever fully extending the knee--could definitely feel it more in my thighs today! I was really panting during the workout, but my recovery time seems to be pretty short :)

Anyway, that brings us to:

Personal: 270/600

Group: 30 + 7,799 = 7,829

Well, once again, I have been VERY bad about logging on my minutes here, but I do keep a good record. I have been mixing walking outside, walking on the treadmill, exercise bike and walking to and from school. I have even started walking the LONG way to and from school, which takes 25 mins and involves a really good hill or two. Since I last posted (about the first of the month) I have clocked up 615 mins of exercise. That includes two rest days, which is fine with me. I quite like having a rest day now and then.

Personal Goal... 65 + 615 = 680/1200, leaving 520 mins left for November

Group Total... 7829 + 615 = 8,444

Saturday: 80 mins walking, 20 mins. cardio.
Sunday: 60 mins walking, 30 mins cardio.

Total for weekend: 190 mins.

8,444+190=8,634

I don't expect I'll meet my goal this month but that is ok. I started feeling sick last week, so I let up on the exercise. Also, my wedding is this weekend and I had to do a bunch of school work (wrote a 22 page paper) as well as organizing the home in preparation for company. So between nonstop cleaning/homework and not feeling well, I didn't get any exercise in this weekend.

Personal total: 405 + 25 = 430
Group total: 8,634 + 25 = 8,659
