Don't Be SPOOKED by Exercise in October!!

Welcome!

...To the October exercise thread! We're trying to make exercise a habit and give ourselves some accountability!

In this thread, we're setting the number of MINUTES we want to exercise for the month -- whether it's walking or swimming or housework! Early in the month (or before it starts) set your own goal! If you're just getting started, feel free to start with a smaller number of minutes (I did!), maybe just a few hundred. It seems easier for many of us to build on the habit rather than meet a very high goal right away.

We're also tracking how many minutes we have exercised as a group! To date, we have exercised well over 100,000 minutes! Here's the monthly breakdown:

January: 9418 minutes
February: 11,129 minutes
March: 15,917 minutes
April: 10,700 minutes
May: 16,091 minutes
June: 13,603 minutes
July: 14,758 minutes
August: 26,640 minutes
September: 21,748 min

TOTAL: 140,004 minutes thru September!

We blew past our 100K goal... how far will we get??? Help us go further, and get fitter in the process!

Please first post your goals and then add your minutes (for yourself and the group) and get some support and accountability!

If you want to join us during the month -- GREAT! Just let us know how many minutes you want to exercise in what's left of the month!

Finally, if you're new to this, pay attention to how to add your minutes to the group... people get confused if they can't easily see our new total. I recommend showing the previous total, then your minutes, then the new total (which should be the sum of the other 2 numbers). For example, if the group had don 500 minutes already and you did 30, here's what you would do:

Group total ~ 500 + 30 = 530 minutes

Let's get moving and shaking in September!

Heather 09-29-2006 11:03 PM

I'll start!

I'm tempted to set a higher goal because I am going to be working with a trainer starting this month, plus some yoga and other stuff (maybe swimming, and elliptical!). BUT, this is also going to be my craziest month, so I am going to keep my goal at 1000 minutes, but I hope that, for once, I really kind of blow past my goal.

I'm energized about exercise for the first time, well, EVER! We'll see how that translates into action....

dogpal 09-29-2006 11:11 PM

Okie Dokie. I'm in for a goal of 400 minutes. I have never met my goal yet so hopefully this month.

Annie

VioletSwerve 09-29-2006 11:33 PM

I'm in!!

Put me down for 360 min. That's 30 min 3x/week at Curves. I've been doing 4-5 days/wk but I AM moving this month so I dont see 4-5x/wk happening every week.

pgray1229 09-29-2006 11:54 PM

Here goes! Put me in for 720 minutes this month! That's about 30 min a day 6 days a week! I hope I can make it!

NoLifeWithoutHorses 09-30-2006 12:01 AM

Being off the truck and not working yet, I'm having a WONDERFUL September as far as exercise is concerned. (This is not the checkbook thread, or the word 'wonderful' would not apply.) I'm going to see how many minutes I can rack up for the month total, add 1, and that will be my goal for next month. Hopefully it will be harder to make because I'll be employed, but I intend to make it regardless. :sumo: :jig: :cb:

--pearl-- 09-30-2006 01:31 AM

I'm in, too!

500 minutes in October!

Vilandra485 09-30-2006 02:34 AM

Of course I'm in! :D I'm trying to get back into the more intense pace I started at (in August) so instead of 30 minutes a day my goal for October will just be a little step up...35 minutes a day, everyday, on average. So, my October exercise goal is 1085 minutes!! :o That's alot for me, lol. :)

Melissa

Lavandel 09-30-2006 04:28 AM

I like the idea of making a workout goal, so yeah Im in :) I quickly calculated and I do around 450 min/month, so lets say I set my goal at 500 in October. Though I feel its gonna be more!

Zeitgeist 09-30-2006 08:25 AM

I didn't think I would make my Sept. goal of 900, but I did. So, I am going to up it a little to keep myself motivated. My new goal will be 950.

NotTheCheat 09-30-2006 10:27 AM

I will go with 1200 minutes again. I didn't make it in September (at least I won't unless I spend over two hours exercising today which I don't see happening :)), but I would have if I hadn't been scared to exercise because of my recent diagnosis. I have not turned into a wilting flower overnight, I just need to be careful and work smarter.

kimpossible 09-30-2006 11:14 AM

I surpassed my goal of 820 last month so I want to up my goal this month-- I'm going to go for 1000- I fell just short of that this month, and if it weren't for my car trouble I would have passed it--1000 here we go!

Heather 09-30-2006 01:47 PM

Great goals, ladies! Nancy, I think it makes sense you take it easy on the insides there! I would have been scared too!

Great to see some new faces as well as the returning ones!

mechell81 09-30-2006 02:33 PM

Ok I am in. I hate that Sept. was so messed up for me! That cold threw off everything. My goal is going to be 450 minutes. I hope to reach my goal this time.

Michelle

NoLifeWithoutHorses 09-30-2006 03:29 PM

I can't believe I'm putting this number down, since before I was missing every goal of even 300-500, but here it is: 1500 minutes. I don't even know how many a day that is average, but I made it this month - I wanna keep the steam up.

Vortex_VVV 09-30-2006 04:54 PM

I'm shooting for 400 minutes this month. I hate the slowness of my progress, but I keep telling myself a little progress is better than none....

sandybar 09-30-2006 05:38 PM

I'm in too. But only for 130 minutes. It's more than I have done in FOREVER and it's a start. I'm counting the 10 mins today for October as long as that doesn't throw us off. :strong:

Heather 09-30-2006 09:54 PM

sandy -- As far as I know, we've always only counted minutes for month, not add minutes from other months, at least for group totals. If you want to add today's minutes to your personal total, go for it!

Good to see people's goals -- and it's okay to set small goals!!!! You're going to build!!

princesspuffypants 09-30-2006 11:32 PM

put me down for 800 mins. thats 100 over what i have now. i still have 30 mins to do tonight to meet my sept goal, but i will get arround to it. its been a bad day for me, but i will do it ;)

voodoo1 10-01-2006 05:56 AM

Hi, with having to walk Aiden to nursery and then walk home & then from home to nursery to collect him & go home again I can now expect to get in 1,500 minutes!!!! That allows for the odd day off for TOM etc, almost double my previous targets!!!
WTG everyone,
xxxxsharon

sandybar 10-01-2006 09:37 AM

Okee Dokee. I've fixed my goal to 120 mins for October. I know it's not as much as most of you, but I'm glad to just move and have a goal!
It's a start!
:)

nelie 10-01-2006 09:42 AM

I actually didn't meet my goal of 1200 minutes last month (barely 48 minutes) because well I didn't exercise for an entire week and then I tried to play catch up. On the 30th, we were supposed to go hiking but it was raining so oh well but we did do a lot of walking/shopping but I don't count that :) So I'm going to go for 1200 minutes next month. I think I can do it although I know hiking might slow down a bit. I need to boogie since I'm getting married next month!

AmmiUK 10-01-2006 10:00 AM

Ok I figure as I keep beating my goal total I will try for 1500 minutes this month. I started today with 30 minutes of my Gazelle Rider. So whenever we are ready to get the group ball rolling please add my 30 minutes :D

Hugs

Ammi :grouphug:

Heather 10-01-2006 10:57 AM

I'll make Ammi's exercise official:

Group total = 30 min!

Let's boogie, ladies!!!

Misti in Seattle 10-01-2006 11:15 AM

Okay, I had to think about this since I usually make my goals and already set September quite a bit lower because I couldn't do the outdoor water aerobics any longer. But I didn't even make my 1500 goal last month.. BUT I have been a mess of allergies and that did set me back... so hey, I am going to go for 1500 again this month.

kimpossible 10-01-2006 02:25 PM

I'm off to a good start for the month- I did my weight lifting class (60 minutes) and 45 minutes on the treadmill. Today I upped my normal weights by 2.5 pounds and made it through- I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, but it was good!

Group total 30 + 105= 135

azcyn 10-01-2006 04:44 PM

Hi everyone! This is Cyn..I use to be active in this group some months ago..hope yall don't mind me trying it again. I am gonna start by setting my goal lower since I could not make the higher one and I would get discuraged. Sooo my goal is 200 minutes.

going to lose 200 10-01-2006 05:27 PM

Hey guys!!

I was short last month (by 30 min) but I'll use the excuse that I was sick.

My goal this month is 1200 minutes :)

Brenda

going to lose 200 10-01-2006 05:28 PM

oop sorry
add 180 minutes

Personal total~ 180 minutes
Group total ~135+180= 315 minutes

Brenda

Zeitgeist 10-01-2006 08:40 PM

I could have done more today, but my motivation was lacking. So, just 30 minutes for me.

Personal: 30/950
Group: 315 + 30 = 345

Nightkatt 10-01-2006 09:15 PM

I just reached my goal last month .. but I had a whole week off of "official" exercise as I dont count the work we have been doing out in the garden and getting the wood etc ... but I am determined to boogie with Richard a minimum of 4 times a week this month ... so I upping mine to 900 (giving me a chance to pass on Richard if I do less outside this month lol).

Vortex_VVV 10-01-2006 10:24 PM

30 minutes of walking: 30/400

Group 345 + 30 = 375

Vilandra485 10-01-2006 10:58 PM

Starting off the month right - got in a nice 41 minute walk!! :) New totals are:

Personal Total: 0 + 41 = 41/1085 - 1044 minutes until goal! I'm tired just thinking about it! ;)

Group Total: 375 + 41 = 416

C'mon Ladies - Let's BOOgie up a huge total for October!! And BOOgie off some pounds while we're at it! ;)

Vilandra485 10-02-2006 04:23 AM

Me again!! Didn't wanna just edit my post...it would confuse me to pieces! So, I got in a second walk tonight - 36 minutes this time! Woo Hoo! New totals are:

Personal Total: 41 + 36 = 77/1085 - 1008 minutes until goal!

Group Total: 416 + 36 = 452

Heather 10-02-2006 07:38 AM

heh. Love BOOgie!

Only 15 min last night with the dogs. We nixed going to the gym yesterday, but each have our first meetings with our trainer tonight...

Group total ~ 452 + 15 = 467 min

voodoo1 10-02-2006 08:12 AM

Hi, happy October:dance: :yikes:  !!!! Add 80 mins walking today for me, I'm not up to doing other exercise (tummy bug:o :barf: )
GROUP TOTAL 467+80=547
MY TOTAL (1,500) 80 (that looks scary now, ooops, :o lol)
xxxxsharon:hug:

nelie 10-02-2006 09:13 AM

I just wanted to report in. I don't have any exercise minutes to report but yesterday I ended up walking almost 5 miles (over 15,000 steps on my pedometer) while hanging out in DC. My legs were pooped last night so I wasn't able to get any "official" exercise in but I'm going to start today.

toofatforu 10-02-2006 10:20 AM

547+60=607

NoLifeWithoutHorses 10-02-2006 10:55 AM

Sunday I did 20 minutes of hill climbing/walking, and today it was back to aerobics/strength workout for another 90. Thank goodness the regular instructor is back - I worked a lot harder with a familiar routine.

110 + 607 = 717

AmmiUK 10-02-2006 12:31 PM

Personal Total: 90 of 1500

Group Total: 717 + 60 = 777
