Well I just completed my 5K I am pumped!!! I didn't think that I would be able to complete it all at once! I turned on my Leslie DVD(what is the acronym you all use for it?) I told myself...."self you can do this, and if after 2miles you can't.....then pause it, sit down, drink some water and then unpause it!" (thank goodness myself didn't talk back!) ok so I started it got to about midway through the 2mile.......and noticed I was getting tired.....I just lowered my movements but kept the pace up........when I started mile 3 I felt great! finished with Jello legs but I DID IT!!! LOL

DMPLS CONGRATS on the 5K AND great on the fact you've raised a son who's not scared to show he loves his mum & family. You should be so proud of him.xxxxxxx
Catherine, 'oldest' ???? I thought you didn't have any children?
Sandy, XXXHUGSXXX GREAT to see you back, thanks for the PM, lol SO TRUE!!! I'm so pleased your son is on the mend, it must have been incredibly stressful, upsetting and awful for you and your family. Go easy on yourself, we all can start afresh & with the weather getting warmer it's bound to get you feeling more positive; even me the 'lame slug' has been in the garden AND exercising & OP!!! (hubby calls me lame slug when I'm just sitting & doing nothing even though there's TONS I should be doing, lol, I don't mind though, you ought to hear what I call him!!)xxxxxxxx
I haven't much more time to type so just a quickie, Ammi has BANNED me from posting the pic, lol, though it does NEITHER of us any favours!!! I look like FOOTBALL head (Soccer) with more chins than a Cinese phonebook & though I think Ammi looks great she doesn't so it looks like it's censored, lol, at least for the time being.

This is nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am cooking green beans for me!! they all want green peas. I wonder how this meal got so large. Hubby called middle daughter who is away at college and asked her to come home for lunch also. She said she cant justify the time today. It takes her 70 min each way. She reminded him this is tax season is tuesday is deadline and she has alot to finish.
It would have been nice!! She is coming home next weekend for one night. I am cooking a big meal then also.

Ammi, thanks for the pics. You do look amazing! You need to always look at your before and after pics. You've come such a far way.
Sharon, LOL Thanks for the validation.
Guess what?? I got up this morning, made coffee, made a little blanket to cover my mom's urn and then I hit the exercise bike for 5 minutes to warm up my knee (mad does it hurt ..the damp weather) and then I was on the Gazelle for 10. Granted, that's not much, but I don't care. I did it. I finally made myself do it. My lil sis even called me while I was on the gazelle & I told her I'd call her back.
I plan on doing my dance dvd this afternoon. It's hard work, but it's fun and the time goes real fast on it. It DOESN'T feel like exercise. DH made me some wonderful steel cut oats with blueberries a minute ago. It is so wonderful!! Sweet, creamy, super low fat, high fiber and DELICIOUS!
When I'm done, I'm gonna hit the shower, then go to Fashion Bug where they have a cute pair of shoes on hold for me cuz of as sale that starts today.
OH HUGE NSV!! Friday night I went to Fashion Bug to buy a pretty new bra, got several actually. Now, granted, I haven't had a new bra in 2+ years. I went from a 54 DDDD to a 46DD. My feet went from a size 8.5 to a size 7.
AND .....I had previously at my highest weight wore a size 32 or 34 pant. Friday I bought a 22/24! I was so excited! Still am! So, I'm trying to use that momentum to get back on the wagon.
Bernice, I love being you sil! It's a brilliant expression.
Gotta bolt. I've got several things to do today.
BL, I hope

Deb Have a wonderful time with your family! I can smell that Turkey from here!
Tonight we're having meatloaf, mashed taters and broccoli. Cuz I'm craving all three!!. I'm thinking of adding some wheat germ or some other good fiber to the meatloaf.
And congrats for your loss!!!
Hugs

Hiya Peeps!!

Thank you to GGG for kicking my behind and reminding me to post here instead of lurk

You all have been ssoooooooooooooo busy this week. 5k runs and lotsa walking, weight lifting and such! Keep up that great work!!!

Dmpls, I'm so glad your son liked your motivational package .. so great he got to read it in front of his peers! What a wonderful kid!

OMGosh, I'm sore. I just did 3.5 hours of yard work. There was a ton of things to do including cleaning the gutters. My 8 ft ladder wasn't tall enough for one end of the gutters. I've gotten a couple of 5 mile bicycle rides in when the weather has permitted. It's been crazy weather! Mostly rainy and cold, but several 70+ days!

Work has been kicking my behind stress wise. I took a week off to de-stress and unwind. It took until mid week before I felt human and not all teary eyed and depressed. I went back to work last week with a better attitude.

My eating has been off and on, but I've been staying consistant with weight. No gains or losses. I've been wanting fish lately, so I have a freezer full of it! I still have yet to crave veggies.. hehe.

Hugs and Luv to all... I'm here and lurking! Just not posting as much a I should.

Luv,
Rat

Sharon-I raised two foster sons who are 22 and 19 right now. I also raised a nephew while I was in college. We haven't had any of our own.

Good afternoon all,

Well, I finally started going through some of the clothes in my closet. I was going to wait for a while, but I was out shopping the other night and realised that the pants I had thrown on were just way too big. I started with the pants and made piles by size (each manufacturer, since plus sizes are often dependant on who makes them). I tried on one from each size and eliminated a couple of piles right away. Then I had my mother decide on the last couple. The ones I would have called too tight are the ones she told me to start wearing. I realised that I'm still not that comfortable with things that fit better.

Sigh, something I'll have to get used to. So when finished I've got three pairs of pants, two pairs of leggings, and three pairs of capris for the summer in the keep pile. The shorts will be okay as well, although one pair needs to be garbaged (they're about 4 sizes too big). I've started dividing the shirts into 1-okay to wear today, 2-need to lose a few, and 3-need to be altered before wearing them in public. I'm glad to say that the #3 pile is getting bigger as I go, and the #2 pile would probably do in a pinch, but will definitely be fine to wear as the #1 pile gets too big. The only real problem is that I've got way too many tops left to try on!

Okay, I decided to go finish off the sorting. I found a few more that can be added to the slightly too tight pile, so that's good. I also found two long sleeved tops from my top weight. I put one in the pile to give away, but I did keep one. It's probably the only thing that really shows the difference from my (probable) top weight, as I remember that it wasn't tight, but it wasn't loose on me either. I'm swimming in it. I think the days that I'm feeling that I'm not making any progress I'll go put it on and wear it for a while.

Bernice - it's amazing once you start looking at the calories in some items how they become, well, not worth it. I'm finding that's such a good thing. I'm glad you had a good long call from your son. On the sandwich spread, sorry, but I've always been a mustard person. That probably doesn't help, but I've never used mayo or butter on my sandwiches. I do remember making yogurt cheese once. Even though I don't like yogurt it might do the trick. You let the yogurt thicken by dripping in a couple of layers of cheesecloth, then season it to different flavours. Although I suspect as long as you're using just a little light mayo every now and then it's not such a bad thing. I still prefer ketchup with my omelets. I've tried salsa, but it's just not working for me. I use WATP (walk away the pounds) but I'm not sure that doesn't come from an earlier series she did. I'd like to do the 5-mile one at some point, but there's some jogging in it that just does me in. It uses a pace of between 4 and 6 miles per hour. The entire 5 mile walk is under an hour. I think it's something I might be more ready for in the fall. When I'm swimming I might go back to doing some of it (you can do sections of it), but it was too rough on my knees.

Carol - that sounds like a good weekend plan. I hope you enjoy your time with your sister. Enjoy your girly time with your DH.

Debi - I know what you mean about family and their perceptions. I sat my mother down back in Jan or Feb and we talked about it. She hadn't said much, but I could see as I got my evening snacks together that she was thinking 'oh, she's eating again'. So I made a point to tell her that I was working on a higher calorie count than even I thought would work, but that it was. Of course, in my case it's easy as I can remind her of the hospital visit at the time I was living on 1200-1400 calories and exercising like mad. I think the real problem is that when I ate more I just didn't do it in front of her. Since she didn't see the hidden food, it looked like I was in fact eating more. Maybe it's time to have a talk with your husband about calorie levels, why you picked them, and how it's actually important to eat enough sometimes.

TheWalrus - ranting is always allowed. Glad you're feeling better though. The financial angle may help though. It's amazing how well you can eat for less. It always seems like more money to start with until you add in the take-out meals, the junk food, etc.

Debbie - yes, that's what I was going for (the HIIT). I need to incorporate them into Stage 2 of the strength building program and I was really just seeing what I could do. I broke down and ordered a heart rate monitor last week. I was getting a foam roller for my mother and I couldn't resist. I think it will be usefull in seeing how effective I really am at raising my heart rate. I've never been convinced that the one on the treadmill is the best way to check (as you have to hold on to check). I'll have to read ahead to see if you did your 5K outside. I know I wouldn't do one outside, but it would be nice to have the weather for it! Very nice win at the casino as well. The two cats are on the outs again today because of something stupid that happened yesterday (which reminded me of your dogs). Glad that Sadie is getting back to normal.

Sandy - sorry to hear that you're struggling. I hope you get back on track soon. It's good that your son is doing better and that the wedding went well. I'd like to say to try and enjoy your trip (but it sounds like it might be better to say hope it's just not awful). And hey, what a difference a day makes. I just say your post from today. It sounds like you've found some great motivation!

Luan - I'm in such agreement with everything you posted. I think shows like the Biggest Loser sometimes makes it harder for people to be happy with their weight loss. Assuming that they're eating enough, they're burning a lot of calories from exercise that most of us couldn't do. Hey, I have the time at the moment, but I still couldn't do it.

Catherine - how nice that you got outside for a little bit. I just looked at your weather and you're like 20 degrees warmer than us. And that's Celcius guys. In farenheit, she's at 73 and we're at 40 (and that doesn't include a little bit of a wind chill that we have going).

Heather_dw -
congrats on the loss!

Ratkitten - would you like to come visit in a couple of weeks? My mother can do hours of yardwork. I'm just not that into it.

Well, that's me caught up so I should post it fast before anyone else posts! I'm still looking at Tuesday for the pool opening (maybe Thurs/Fri for a swim assuming all goes well). We're using a new fellow, a local independant contractor. I'm only a little concerned that he hasn't confirmed (we're getting a new pump so I asked him to call with a price before he came), but I suspect he'll show up on Tuesday. Since I don't know when he's coming I'll have to be up at a decent hour, and dressed. Same for tomorrow as I'm expecting a delivery via UPS. Oh well, it will maybe start me back into a decent routine.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend, and that next week will be great as well.

Hi Peeps - boy do I feel old. I'm got an MP3 player for my 50 lb loss - and I have no clue what I'm doing. This cannot possibly take this long. Seems to take forever to rip them and not long to sync - is that what I'm supposed to be doing?

We had a nice visit with my SIL - we even bought a piece of her work although she tried to give us the $$ back. I have an international kitchen with tons of Polish pottery, Mexican ceramics, Australian art and now native American gourd/feather art. I love it - it is so me - everyone who comes in says it looks just like me.

I guess maybe it's just a blonde day for me but I'm also having trouble with the WATP videos - I move as hard as I can on the treadmill and do 3.1 miles in 55 minutes - yet with the WATP I can do 5 miles in 30 minutes - what's the deal?

Anne - I got my catalog yesterday with aqua fitness equipment - I have a lengthy wish list that I am starting to narrow down. The last several weeks I have been using the ankle resistance wraps and this has made such a big difference - I guess I will break down and buy some for home too. I do plan to continue my formal water work with my trainer but will supplement at home - once the water is above 40 degrees - or maybe even the outside temp too! It snowed most of the day yesterday - not sticking but still - YUCK.

It's really exciting to see so many of us getting in on the 5K. Three months ago if you would have told me I would have participated I would have said NO WAY (because I wouldn't have thought I could).

RK - gotcha!

Sandy - so nice to see you! Be careful and let us know when you're back.

Sharon - if we whine really really really bad would you post the pic? I'm a great whiner if need be. Tell Ammi HI.

Annie - how'd the sale go? Have you ran out and bought your Wii?

Debi - boy turkey sounds good. Those sides can be killers - I'm sure they all have their favorites that only you can fix.

Heather_dw - great job.

Debbie - special plans for the casino winnings? What a mixed blessing - Sadie is thriving and Marilyn has a prospective home.

I went shoe shopping in my closet - I found a brand new pair of New Balance walking shoes - I guess they must have been too small. It was fun to wear them as my Nike's are getting a little worn. I must do that with my clothes too - I am putting that off because (as Anne suggested) I might need to wear something that is not quite so loose.

OK - I gotta see if I can figure this MP3 thing out - is there a MP3 for Dummies Book?

Hugs to all,
Carol

I've got a 5-mile one and I think it's 14-min, 10-min, ?12 or 14-min, 12-min, 12-min for each of the 5 miles. I'd have to put the DVD in to figure out the middle mile (but let's call it 13).

The 5-miles adds up to 61 mins, which makes sense as the DVD run time is a few minutes longer (titles and cool down stretch). The 3-mile walks on the DVD were just under 40 mins. I can walk a long time at a slower pace, but I definitely couldn't keep up for the constant faster paces of the DVD. Since I know I'm finding the treadmill easier, I suppose I should go back to using the DVD a little more often. I just won't count doing less than 90 mins (which I do on the treadmill) as a failure.

Sandy:

I make turkey meatloaf and toss in spinach and brown rice instead of bread crumbs. I also grab whatever spices are handy and sometimes mix in some BBQ sauce. DH loves it..in fact that is tonight's dinner...unless I decide that I do not have to cook and heat up the apartment when it is 95 degrees outside and then we will make other plans. I'm kind of on a food OD right now...enough already.

We almost bought a GPS today when we were by the mall. The Shaper Image near us is going out of business and they had a good one for $139...but it turned out they actually had not updated their computer and the only one of that model they had was an out-of-box model...no thanks. Not even at that price.

I got some drops for my eye thing...it's still reddish but not as red as it was...and it's a littel burny...but I am thinking that it's a mild infection from wearing my contacts for...a month.

Oops.

Sandy, it's so good to see you posting. Sounds like things are just crazy right now for you. Hope it all settles down soon. Take care of yourself and have a safe trip.

Luan, what you said is soooooooooo true!

Catherine, so glad you got to go out and enjoy the sun

heather dw, HURRAYYY!! for you on the 16lbs gone forever!!

Bernice, YAY on getting the 5k done. I've done a mile on the treadmill but my belt is slipping so I'm going to pop in a 2 mile WATP dvd and finish up. I'll just walk extra to make up the .1 part of it.

HI Ratkity, glad to see you posting!!

Anne, sounds like you've got yourself quite a few pieces of clothing. It is so hard to get used to things that fit better on us. I'm having issues with my skinny jeans...lol if you want to call them that. The legs are just tighter than I'm used to, but Jim says they look just fine. So I have to get brave and wear them outside. It's so nice that you'll have so many things to wear that were too tight before but fit great now.

Carol, It is weird how the miles go quicker on WATP dvds than it does on the treadmill. I don't get that either. Good luck on the MP3, I don't even own one. LOL

Gotta run and make dinner. Things are fine here. Been working on the woodcutting and plan to try and get further on the afghan before the weather changes too drastically. We're back to rain today.
Gotta do two more miles to finish the 5k. I think I'll be doing it with a 2 miler WATP. My belt is slipping on the treadmill.
toodles

Hi everyone,

I did the 5k too. I went hiking at one of my favorite spots. Since my usual hike there is about 5k, I decided to go a little further in the name of making today's hike special for the event. I went about 4 miles, and my knee told me it was time to stop. It was a very enjoyable walk. It's warm here today, in the 80s, and the hike is mostly shaded so it wasn't too bad. Any hotter and I don't like it.

I haven't had the greatest eating weekend, but I'll be alright. I know the drill.

Julee: I also had a red, burning eye problem. Mine cleared up in a couple of days. I was worried that it was pink eye, but whatever it was sorted itself out.

Congrats to all the losers and the gals doing well OP. Hugs to the strugglers.

Well kids are gone and im on the depressed side. I hate when they only stay a few short hours. Hubby and i went for our walk but only made it half of the 5K. Its freezing outside and we are going to warm up and then go back and finish up. I think we still enough time before dark.I am not really up to doing the whole thing straight thru without the break.
I ate a bit much at lunch but still within my calories.Just felt really full.

hubby is ready to go again...be back later.
