Default 300+ Weekly Thread #1152

WELCOME

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.

We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.

Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

There have been some concerns expressed by the powers that be about copyright infringement. So please, if you are directly quoting someone else or printing an article in whole or in part, please give credit where credit is due!!!

Yay, new thread!

Hey gals!
Start of a new week and I hope it's a new week of movement on the scale (in the down direction of course)

As for me, I'm holding steady this morning. I've already done WATP 1 mile, I just need to start drinking water.

Good morning peeps,

I'm up 1.5 lbs for no reason today, but that is nothing new. Probably after this long whoosh, I will play around with the same few pounds for a while until my body is ready to release another few. Past experience tells me it may take a while. At least I know eventually it all works out. Slow and steady wins the race. Or something like that.

Have a great, OP day today. Let this be the start of a super week for all of us.

Look at it this way. You didn't eat 3500+ extra calories, so you know that pound and a half isn't fat

Annie, Have a safe trip and enjoy your time with your parents.

Mandy21,

Lauren, we've all been in the same boat. There will come a time when you look at something really good and really want to eat it, but then think how hard it was to lose the weight you've lost, and is it really worth eating that just to have to work so hard to get it off again. I can tell ya, many a time I've wanted something and then look at it and not eat it, and be so proud of myself for the control I had. You'll get there.

Cyn, I count calories too and it sure does help. Journaling everything I eat, counting calories, and also fat grams, has really helped me. So good luck to you, I think you'll do just fine.

Bernice, you've done so well on your exercise, puts me to shame. How nice that you got to go see your DD. I'm sure it was a nice surprise for her too. I would of loved to see the look on her face.

JuliaHood, it will come off. We all go thru the weeks with no weight loss. Just part of the journey.

Battle, you're doing awesome though, so don't let it get you down.

I'm feeling somewhat better. It seems all the crud is breaking up. So I guess that's a good sign. We had a very LOUD thunderstorm last night and even had some more snow. So weird. It's all melted now though, and suppose to be warming up. I'm so ready for spring. Usually I love the winter, but this has been going on long enough and I want to get out there in the dirt!!!
I'm still working on my bank patterns and then as soon as it warms up, we can get back out in the shop and start cutting. Always something to look forward to and it's fun to get out there and meet people while selling.
Have to go pick up some meds at Costco, and then going to get a subway sandwich for dinner. Staying OP and drinking my water are going well too.
I keep track of my weight loss on a graph, and set goals for myself each month. I missed my goal by 3 lbs, which isn't that bad really. I had hoped to get to 280 by today but missed. So I'll set my new goal for April at 270 (yes, I know it's alot of weight for one month) and see how close I get. I don't get bummed if I don't get there, it's just something to shoot for. It always makes it more interersting with the graphs and goals.
Keep moving and groovin
Debbie

Battle - yes I could almost feel the muscles holding on the water for comfort. Tomorrow is the official WI so I'll drink my water and stretch a little today. Thanks for the kind words about sharing how I had been feeling.

Debbie - glad to hear things are finally breaking up - I'm sure you are glad and can look forward to feeling better very soon. Tell me about these banks.

Move your bodies, drink your water and SMILE (try it in the mirror today).

Hugs,
Carol

You know I really never realized how much my horrible food choices were a form of rebellion! I guess I can trace it back to puberty when I started to put on weight. Being told that I shouldn't eat ... and my stubborn dutch attitude would say "oh ya I'll show you, I'll do what I want." Ya I REALLY SHOWED THEM. I show them a whole lot of me! What good did that really do me? Now the job is to use that same stubornness to show them I can take it off & keep it off!

I may actually eat solid food today. My jailer is going to let me have some tapioca and a banana if I'm very good. The medicine makes me sensitive to the sun, so I can't go anywhere, plus, I'm still immuno-suppressed so I can't be around people anyway. Himself is practically dipping everything in the house in lysol. He even put my soup spoon in boiling water. This new sterile version of him is weirding me out. It is so unnatural. We normally describe him as a walking toxic waste dump, and I scream if I see his stinky robe on my side of the bed. He's spiking my apple juice with pedia-lite. I may need rescue.

Good evening all,

I'm starting this before dinner, but likely I'll finish it off after dinner. I was sitting here at the computer and saw a large hawk sitting on the back fence. It stayed just long enough for me to sneak outside (wet socks instead of shoes) with the camera. Just taking off as I was lifting the camera up to snap a picture. I don't think it saw me, but seemed to be after some type of prey in the neighbours yard. I grabbed the guide to NA birds, but couldn't quite decide what kind of hawk it was. At the last house we lived on a hill, with a field behind us, so it wasn't unusual to see hawks from time to time. Here, it's very unusual. There is a small creek that runs about 4 or 5 houses away, but I don't think it attracts much more than the occasional kestral (much smaller than what I saw today).

Of course this likely means that the neighbours behind us have mice or rats. When we first moved in the people next to us had mice under their shed. Our very pretty long-haired white cat (tortishell points) spent the first week clearing them out. She would catch one and hop up on to the kitchen window ledge to show us her prize. One day the neighbour was here and saw this and suddenly realised why his mice didn't seem to be a problem. I don't think either of our cats now would be of any real help in this respect. They're nice boys, but I think they lack the killer instinct. Well, the little one might, but he's afraid of pretty much every stray noise. This is a cat that runs downstairs when someone rings the doorbell. I was kind of surprised last summer (took him until Aug to venture out on the patio) when he chased a squirrel, and cornered it on the garage wall.

Julia - I notice that a lot of us weigh in on Monday. I'm never sure why. I started on a Friday, but until recently used Monday as a weigh in date as well. I'm now using Sunday as my official day. Anyway, that's a long way to say that I hope you have a good weigh-in. Meals out though can contain lots more sodium than we think, so don't be too disappointed if it wasn't a good week. Oops - just saw that you held steady. Hopefully next week will be better.

BattleAx - You are right, slow and steady is the way to go. I've seen the same kind of thing (holding on for a while, then sudden drops). Who knows why our bodies do this. Perhaps to drive us crazy. I saw your post in the last thread, about comparing your weight loss to others. It's so hard to not do, but it's probably the least helpful thing we do. I don't know why, but it is. Especially when you start off. I mean, you're not eating junk, you're hungry all the time, you feel like the weight should just fall off. I've yet to figure out why sometimes it seems easier than others. And it's funny, but I don't feel much like celebrating crossing the threshold. My first weight where I'll feel like I've accomplished anything will be under 282 - that's the weight where I ended up in the hospital a couple of years back. And no matter how well I do, there are times I mentally beat myself up for gaining some of the weight back. Every loss reminds me that I'm losing the same freakin weight over. Sigh, that's enough self pity for today. Hey, good luck on your date.

Heather_dw - are you still weighing yourself daily? Anyway, congrats on the overall loss. Don't sweat the daily/weekly stuff. I know I couldn't weigh myself that little, but I've become more interested in the monthly losses. They seem to be less subject to up and down water weight fluctuations.

Debbie - glad that you're feeling a little better. I think we're all sick of this winter. We had agreed that we weren't going to call the pool guy until the end of the week, but my mother jumped the gun and called him today. We probably need a new pump so I think part of her rationale is that we should make sure we have it for the day he opens the pool. There's still ice on it though! Pretty sad looking ice, and I can see the cover through parts of it, but still - there's ice on it!

Catherine -
you just stay in bed (or on the couch) and let him take care of you. I'm sure the last time he wasn't well you babied him. It's definitely your turn.

Debi - you're just a constant reminder that I should probably finish the cleaning out of my drawers I started a couple of weeks ago.

Mandy21 -

Cyn - good luck on the calorie counting. In the end I've found that it works best for me. The lifting program I've been doing pushes 30% protein/30% fat/40% carbohydrates, which I think I ignore except for the 30% protein (which is hard). I've just found that counting calories allows me to eat what I want, and just adjust small things to keep within my limits.

Bernice - congrats on surpassing your exercise goal for March. You may not need to double April's goal, but you do likely need to increase it.

TheWalrus - wow, Friday and hopefully no more cast. Hope that it happens for you!

Well, the good part is that I'm finished catching up (well, a little). The bad news is that I forgot to put the oven on, so dinner will be a little later tonight. I'm starting to feel the after effects of my lifting today so I should probably at least go upstairs before I'm too tired to do so. Hope everyone is having a good day and that the week continues so. I will try to pop back in, but likely just reading, not replying. Unless I decide to completely forget about studying for the math test and accept that I'll be doing some kind of summer/evening course to make it up. I think I'd feel better about it if I knew what I was going to be tested on. Trying to cover my old high school math... well, some of it seems easy, and other bits I don't remember at all. I suppose that's the difference between the stuff you've used in the the last 20 years and the stuff that you never needed again!

Catherine: Isn't it nice to discover how much our guys care -- even if you have to feel crappy to find out! My husband's definitely over having to cater to my needs, though he's still taking very good care of me, but for the first couple weeks in particular, he was just lovely -- he even admitted that he liked being the caretaker for once

Catherine-glad to see you are feeling better enough to toot your DH's horn!!! Isn't it a blessing to have a DH who will take care of you?

Anne- Yes I am excited that I surpassed my goal.......but I know I did not set out on a "scheduled" line of attack on it....it was definately hit or miss on days of the week that I exercised.....so if I were to double it and divide it into 3Xs a week it would work out to a comfortable routined workout......if I don't make the doubled goal I will be happy with 50% more......so anywhere between 600-800 mins will work for me! I guess I will set it for 600 and shoot for the 800!

Debbie-yeah it was a great trip to see DD! She was surprised! We all enjoyed eachother's company and got to meet her boss and the kids she takes care of....now I know why she enjoys them so much they are wonderful!

Well today at work was much better except for a small teenage-boy bathroom incident.......that I don't care to elaborate on......LOL .........you can use your imagination.....geeeeeze you would think Spec Ed students would/could be exempt from that.....but unfortunately they are not.....and us teachers are subject to discussions we really would rather not have to touch! LOL ok enough said on that subject!LOL

I am so glad WI was down 2lbs this week! I was kinda hoping for below 290's but will live for another week or so to get there......I can't wait! each 10lb mark is so exciting! that means its 10lbs closer to the 100's!!!! LOL

ok well I better get off of here.....been working on stinking FASFA paperwork for over 3hours tonight!!!! and still have to call the two college's to figure out what all I probably didn't process properly!!! wish they could just use the same info from previous years.........but ask for our income updates..........its just alot of paperwork times TWO!!!

LOL ok I'm off the soap box!

toodles poodles!
