300+ Sweeeet September Exercise Thread

WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME!!!

...To the Sweeeet September exercise thread! We're trying to make exercise a habit, give ourselves some accountability, and get healthier in the process!

In this thread, we track the number of MINUTES we exercise for the month
-- whether it's walking or swimming or sweaty housework! Most of us set goals for ourselves (I personally will not exercise much without a goal). If you are a goal-setter, early in the month set your own goal! If you're just getting started, feel free to start with a smaller number of minutes (I did!), maybe just a few hundred. It seems easier for many of us to build on the habit rather than meet a very high goal right away. However, you can also just jump right in without a goal, and you can join us anytime in the month!

And you want to jump in, because one of the main reasons to be here is to track how many minutes we exercise as a group! In 2006 we came close to 200,000 minutes. I'd love to see us surpass that goal this year. Here's where we stand!

Jan 19,532 min
Feb 14,818 min
Mar 20,190 min
Apr 18,336 min
May 16,343 min
June 21,703 min
July 23,253 min
Aug -- I'll tally it later
------------
TOT nearly 150,000 MINUTES to date!

We are well over halfway there!

Finally, if you're new to this, pay attention to how to add your minutes to the group... people get confused if they can't easily see our new total. I recommend showing the previous total, then your minutes, then the new total (which should be the sum of the other 2 numbers). For example, if the group had done 500 minutes already and you did 30, here's what you would do:

Group total ~ 500 + 30 = 530 minutes

Let's continue to make 2007 great by more moving and shaking!!

luja 08-31-2007 12:00 AM

It may be the insomnia talking but I am going with 1500 this month.

Nightkatt 08-31-2007 01:21 AM

Okee...

As I am rather out of practice I will stick to the basics of 300 min .. hoping to beat that Im sure :)

Vortex_VVV 08-31-2007 08:09 AM

In June I met my goal for the first time ever, then upped it to 620 in July and August. I haven't yet succeeded in doing 620, but I'm going to try again in Sept. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can....

Ratkitten 08-31-2007 08:43 AM

The time change is gonna put a crimp in my bicycling... so I'll stick to 1000 minutes for September!

Luv,
Ratkitten

Heather 08-31-2007 09:24 AM

Ratkitten -- What time change?

As for me... I think I will go with 1000 minutes this month. September gets busy, but I don't want to go too low with the minutes... hmmmm...

Ratkitten 08-31-2007 09:31 AM

Ooops, I meant the loss of daylight. The time change used to be in Oct, now it's the first Sunday in Nov!

Luv,
Rat

Since I made my time for August, I will push it a little bit further and say 1400 for September. It might be a challenge, especially since I have to fit things around my company's office move, but I need to learn how to keep exercise in my life even in busy times if I am going to be able to make this stick for life.

TheStorySoFar 08-31-2007 10:09 AM

Um, I'm in for 450 minutes of exercise for Sept.

losingjusme 08-31-2007 10:19 AM

oh boy, i've never done minutes before, always miles. mile goal is 240 for September ... i will commit to 750 minutes.

dogpal 08-31-2007 03:59 PM

Hi Everyone,

I can only walk this month and not very much since surgery so I am setting my minutes down to 300 for September.

Blessings all,
Annie

Idealmuse 08-31-2007 07:52 PM

Despite September being the beginning of my busy season for art shows, I'm just going to keep mine the same as last month.

Since I work out from home I should be able to keep fitting it in fine. And hey, I'm not all worried about if I make my minute goal as long as I keep doing around the same range.

September: 1,800

Realist 08-31-2007 10:56 PM

I am going to try

I am giving it the old college try. 600 minutes this month. One question...can I count things like laying flagstone and such? Or does it have to be focused exercise?

Real...

Heather 08-31-2007 11:53 PM

Real -- I count things like shovelling snow because it gets my heartrate up. Yardwork is harder to gauge. There can be more "down time" depending on what you do. I have been known to count portions of my time -- and focus on keeping the time my heartrate was up.

But I never count housecleaning for some reason... I think I never do enough of it in a sitting to make it worthwhile!

Other people count different things...

Ratkitten 09-01-2007 11:33 AM

14.1 miles of cycling for 74 min

Group Total~ 74

Personal Total = 74/1000

Xena2005 09-01-2007 11:57 AM

I missed my July goal by a long shot. I have various reasons/excuses for it. But those don't really matter. It's a new month and a fresh start. I am going for 600 minutes this month.

30 minutes - WATP

GROUP TOTAL 74 + 30 = 104

Realist 09-01-2007 04:39 PM

30 min riding stationary bike (7.5 miles)

30 + 104 = 134 minutes

luja 09-01-2007 07:57 PM

circuit training 60 minutes

group total - 134+60 = 194

personal - 60/1500

Heather 09-01-2007 09:02 PM

I had to do an abbreviated weight workout today, but got in 30 minutes.

Group total ~ 194 + 30 = 224 min

And we're off!!

Idealmuse 09-02-2007 01:11 AM

End of the week Entry (only 2 days are September) including tomorrows 4-mile walk...

Group total ~ 224 + 130 = 354 min

luja 09-02-2007 11:19 AM

walk - 60 minutes

group total - 354 + 60 = 414

personal - 120/1500

Ratkitten 09-02-2007 01:11 PM

Biking 12 miles = 65 min

Group Total~ 414 + 65 = 479

Personal Total = 139/1000

Heather 09-02-2007 03:09 PM

30 min elliptical

Group total ~ 479 + 30 = 509 min

Realist 09-02-2007 05:01 PM

Two days in a row...yahoo!!

I know many of you may do that all the time, but it's an improvement for me.

30 min stationary biking (7.5miles)

Group total 509 + 30 = 539 min

Vortex_VVV 09-02-2007 05:50 PM

Whew. Lotsa walking in stores. I'm only counting half of it, but that still gives me 70 minutes for today.

Group total: 539 + 70 = 609

dogpal 09-02-2007 08:02 PM

Former Group Total 609 + 80 minutes of walking for me = 689 New Group Total

Idealmuse 09-03-2007 01:09 AM

I need to add 10 to my "estimate" of todays minutes... We biked instead of my 4 mile walk and I estimate we were out for about 80mins. We went about 14 miles.

Group Total~ 689 + 10 = 699
Persnal Total~ 140

MarinePrincess 09-03-2007 02:53 AM

DH introduced me to racquetball. :cheer2: So much fun. We played for about 2 hours, so minus breaks between games, I'd say I was active for about 90 minutes today!

Group: 699 + 90 = 789

Ratkitten 09-03-2007 11:53 AM

10 miles cycling.. 49min

Group Total~ 789 + 49 = 838

Personal Total = 188/1000

luja 09-03-2007 02:11 PM

counting 30 min of gardening/painting/mowing

group total = 838+30= 868

personal 150/1500

Xena2005 09-03-2007 02:27 PM

30 minutes yoga

GROUP TOTAL 868 + 30 = 898

TheStorySoFar 09-03-2007 03:58 PM

Walked a mile this morning...

22minutes.

Group Total ~ 898 + 22 = 920

Heather 09-03-2007 05:59 PM

60 min at the gym

Group total ~ 920 + 60 = 980 min

Realist 09-03-2007 06:33 PM

22 minutes on stationary bike

980 min + 22 min = 1002 minutes

Vortex_VVV 09-03-2007 08:28 PM

25 minutes walking

Group total: 1002 + 25 = 1027

losingjusme 09-04-2007 11:30 AM

at the gym this weekend and today = 177 (cardio) + 30 (strength) = 207

group = 1027 + 207 = 1234

Debbie54 09-04-2007 04:04 PM

20 minutes of walking

1234 + 20 = 1254

Ratkitten 09-04-2007 06:45 PM

50 min cycling

Group Total~ 1254 + 50 = 1304

Personal Total = 238/1000

luja 09-04-2007 07:21 PM

60 minutes walking

group total 1304 + 60 = 1364

personal 210/1500

NotTheCheat 09-04-2007 08:18 PM

I've been back and forth in my mind about how much of the last 3 days I am counting as exercise, and I have decided on 5 hours total - 2 each Sat. and Sun., and 1 on Mon.

The group total is now 1,364 + 300 = 1,664

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 04:20 AM.
