We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.
We want to invite everyone (roosters as well as chicks!) to join us in our journey. We share laughter and tears, heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations. We also share what works for us and what doesn't.
We know the thread can move very quickly, and that people often make "personal" remarks and keep a number of conversations going. Please feel free to contribute even if you can't make personal comments all the time.
Finally, we also have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, Photos, Exercise, Info for Getting Started and more. Many of these threads are stickied at the top of the page. Please feel free to check them all out.
We have found this thread to be more than just a support group... we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.
I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.
If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for the Amazon "store" in the upper right hand corner of the screen on the PURPLE tool bar. A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.
Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

Xena, you go with those DVDs!! Keep up the good work.
Wyllenn, I do the same thing in my yard. I'll pickup dog stuff and toys, mow.. then before I know it, I'm pulling weeds and spraying and edging. My little sister cuts my Dad, her son and her hubby's hair. She buzzes them all! hehe. She's gotten good at it. Your experience made me smile cuz she did the same thing to their heads the first few times. It's funnier cuz they kept coming back for haircuts!!
Welcome back 2FForU!!
Battle, I agree, it's nice to have that little extra energy to do stuff during the day. Not just one thing, but several. Before, 1-2 chores would exhaust me. This weekend, I did a lot, just like you! Your supper sounds wonderful, I'll be there soon hehe
Debbie, any chance you needed something salty when you reached for the pretzels? There could have been way worse things to sabatoge yourself with... drinking your fluids to get rid of the extra salt will help. You are doing so well!! Don't beat yourself up. It's hard to walk forward with one foot kicking your behind.
PrincessPuffLuan, ow ow ow ow.. please tell us you cared gently for yourself this past weekend! I hope your job isn't too taxing today. No more tripping! (falling or otherwise.. hehe). Catherine has had experience with concussions and can tell you how important it is to care for yourself after a bonk.
Well, off to work. Will post more later.
Luv to all and especially to the lurkers and MIAs,
Ratkity
thanks Debie and rATKITY i am starting to today off on a good OP note .. just need to give myself a good talking too lol! Hello Ammie i hope to hear from you soon too! hi Annie!
I don't think I would be able to play catch up on personals, but I have to say...
Nancy: Regarding the brownie incident. I think we might be related I could easily see myself doing that. Better yet, when making chocolate chip cookies, I would eat a LOT of the raw dough.
Luan - OUCH!! Take care of yourself.
Hope you all are doing well. I had a busy week (I know...shocking ) and I veered off plan a bit on Saturday at a party and at dinner Saturday night at Chili's in the form of a fajita quesadilla, but I could only eat 3 of the pieces and I was FULL and I did NOT take the rest home. That would not have been smart. I know myself too well.
Speaking of Chili's I do have a NSV to share. The last time I went to Chili's was in January. Hubby and I sat at a booth and I barely squeezed in. I went with three girlfriends Saturday night and I fit in the booth with TONS of room to spare. These two friends are very supportive of my weightloss journey and when I told them about the last time I was there...we had a group high five.
I went right back on plan yesterday and am down 2 lbs this week. 1 lb to go to my mini goal and 2 lbs to go to break into a new decade!!
Peggy -- Great NSV! I remember just barely squeezing in the booths at Chili's and everywhere else. There is one Mexican place hubby and I used to go where the tables were not fixed, thankfully, because the only way we could get in was to move the tables out at an angle so that one could squeeze in and then do the same for the other. We don't go there often any more (I miss my chimichangas sometimes) because there aren't a lot of great choices for us, but the last time we went, we could just slide in!

These NSVs realyl do help us see our progress!!!!
Right! You know what I am talking about with Chilis. I wouldnt go back after that. I was too embarassed. I will say that I was concerned about going there Saturday because of the booths. The things that stay with us! Just crazy.
Yeah...I won't go there often either for that very reason, but every now and again I figure is not bad. I have changed in that I go right back OP afterward whereas in the past it could be a week or month before I would get my act together. I actually like how I am eating now so it is much easier to get back on track.
Peggy -- Now when I go to Chili's I stick with their "Guiltless Grill" menu. I love the salmon -- it comes with steamed veggies and a black bean dish (It seems like a holdover from the Atkins craze). Yummy. They claim it's only 480 calories, but I guess with the amt of salmon it has to be more than that... but, whatever. It's tasty and reasonably healthy.
Meta – Welcome back! I had wondered where you had gotten to. Thanks for noticing that my scale is moving!
Battle – Your dinner sounds lovely! You can invite me over any time. Having more energy is the best!
Annie – I love the pic of you and your DH! You make such a cute couple!
Peggy – Not being afraid of booths anymore – priceless.
All of a sudden the stress of my office move has hit me like a ton of bricks. I have 3 weeks to get us out of here and no idea if our new space will be ready. I work in a really small office so it isn’t that bad, but still. I need to slow down, breathe, and keep onto the next task. I start thinking of everything I have to do and coordinate and all of a sudden I feel immobilized, which doesn’t help at all. If I keep on doing the next task, then I know I can get it done.
You're all invited to dinner at my place at 7. Call for directions.lol
I'm down a fraction of a pound this week, not enough to move my ticker. I really worked it last week and hoped to see a bigger loss...but will have to keep the faith that the weight will come off. It seems that the scale shows a loss every 2-3 weeks. I am in my 40s; it's taking longer and more effort than it has before, but it is coming off and I'm feeling healthy and energetic.
This will be motivation to moderate my eating tonight. I'm trying to eat as lightly as possible until tonight, without setting off binge signals from eating too little. With the fabulous food on offer tonight, I don't want to be in binge mode. I want to enjoy it and be in control.
Have a great OP day everyone. Peggy, congrats on your loss and your terrific NSVs. Nancy, I'm sending Zen vibes to you.
Peggy -- I hear you on the scale woes. I got on the scale yesterday after breakfast and it was lower than today (official WI) before breakfast! By 2 pounds! We have an analog scale and I swear if you sneeze on it you'll get a different reading. I think it got shifted and that also changes the reading. I'd get a new one but this one reads lower than any other scale and I like the psychological boost!! Oh well, I'll just wait a bit and it will be back down again... someday!
Great news!! I'm in the "teens"!! I lost a total of 5lbs even with my little binge on pretzels. Of course that could possibly come back and haunt me...ya never know. I guess exercise does pay off.
I didn't really beat myself up too much over the pretzels. In a way I allowed myself to have some, it just went overboard. That's what I get for taking the half a bag that was left.
Luan, ouch!! Thats all I can say about that bruise. It sure looks painful.
Nancy, I feel for ya on moving an office. It can't be an easy task. Just center on one task and get it done and move on to the next.
Catherine, I hope all is well with you. I don't think I've seen you on here for a day or so, so I hope you're doing ok.
Battleax, a loss is a loss is a loss. At least you didn't gain. I take anything I can get. Just keep on doing what you're doing and you'll see a bigger loss.
Today I'm back on the exericse trail. I plan on doing the 2 mile walk tape again. I like the workout for the upper body. That's where I feel the weakest and I just don't like that feeling. When I used to work in electronics, I did alot of mechanical, and I used to break screwheads off all the time and get in trouble for tightening things too tight. Now I feel so weak, I'd probably get in trouble for leaving them too loose...LOL.
Hope everyone stays OP and drinks that water!!
Debbie
I’ve been AWOL working on my final. Did you ever have one of those teachers whose final exam was to come in and write on a black board that the final was to write down everything you had learned in the class? Well, I kind of got one of those. 10,000 words on how my view of Christology had changed during the process of the course. Good Grief. Remind me again why I decided going back to school was a great idea.
Luan-I did want to say one thing about concussions, and I’ve had my share. You have to be careful for the next month or two to not get another one. There is something called Second Injury Syndrome where if you get a concussion right after another one, you can get a serious brain bleed. People die from it. Long term, there are also things to watch for. I have among other things post concussion syndrome. It’s what boxers, football and hockey players get. You don’t want it. Even one bad concussion can make you more susceptible to early dementia. I use ginkgo and turmeric every day. Ginkgo increases blood flow to the brain, so don’t start it right away. Turmeric is the main ingredient in curry powder, and countries that routinely use it in their cuisines have a fraction of the rates of Alzheimer’s that the rest of the world does. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory, and I find that I have a lot less back and knee pain when I remember to throw it into my food everyday.
Heather-I love chimmichanga’s too. You can get almost the same thing by baking them. Pre-cook some chicken breast in salsa or some ground soy if you like the beef ones, wrap it in one of those low-fat wheat tortilla. Soften them first so that they won’t break when wrapping by moistening in water and microwaving for 30-60 seconds. Wrap them, put them on a baking tray, and spray with pure canola to get crispy. I’ve done them anywhere from 350-450 depending on oven. Just take out when they look crispy, and serve with fat-free sour cream and salsa. You can even put some shredded soy cheese on it.
I got woken up by a crazy husband this morning. He had gotten on the scale, and had lost 3 more pounds. He was acting like a teenage girl trying to lose weight before the prom. Surviving my own weight loss is hard enough; I hope I can survive his. If he gets any more energy, I’m going to have to take a vacation so I can get some sleep.
