i wear saucony 3d grid - but the best thing to do is go to a running store and get yourself fitted - I lost a toenail training once because I had the wrong shoes on! Gross and painful (it is back now though )

run safe!

I agree that it's a good idea to get fitted for shoes at a running store, my mom has done it twice actually, the first place was at New Balance, and her shoes were not the best for her feet. But the second place we went suggested a different brand, Brooks, I believe. She LOVES them!

So I finished week 1 of C25K, and am excited to start week 2. I finally got a stretching thing down so that I'm not sore the next day.. makes such a huge difference

Tonight I am off to a Martini party... but my runner friend will be there.. I guess that doesn't count as training of any kind, eh?

haha - I had a martini last night (and a gin and tonic) with a triathlon member - i don't think it counted

yes - make sure you get fitted at a non biased shoe store - aka not nike...

bida - I definitely had more than one martini, but I guess they are better than some of those cocktails out there.. lower in fat? I am trying to be positive about this

How often do you all run? The training program I'm following says 3 times a week, I am concerned that it's not really enough? I was reading a magazine article that says 45-1hour of exercise a day! I'm thinking of adding some other exercise in, any ideas?

I just do my running/training program the 3 times a week, the other days I do other cardio, I would love to do more, but right now the 3 times a week is enough... But if you feel like you can do more, I'd do it... just don't strain yourself

Got in my running, W1D3... I think I might stick w/ week 1 for 2 weeks though instead of just the one, because its a little easier, but still a little tough.... Good luck ladies! Keep it uup!

Hmm.. I thought I had posted here today..

Started week 2 day 1 today, it went well. My legs are super sore from doing like 100 squats and 30 lunges yesterday.. but I made it thru it!

What other sorts of exercise are you gals doing? I want to let my muscles recover from running, but also really want to lose some of this darn weight!

Hey all - I feel like i've been MIA lately.
I run like at least once a week doesn't that sound awful - but I try to do it 2 - in the summer I was doing it like 5 times a week. NOW I also do spinning twice a week - and have been really bad about excersize lately - f()*& writing it out makes me realize i need to kick my butt back into GEAR!
thanks!

You guys are moving pretty fast!

I definitely agree with getting fitted at a non-biased store. THe second I get some extra money I'm going into Runner's Roost for a fitting. I'm still in the same shoes as when I was 210, so they are quite stretched. I'm also getting a nasty callous on my pinky toe and am losing the nail (hello yucky feet!)

I'm never running with our hockey director again! He nearly killed me! Keep in mind this man is 6'5 and 250.... It was a great motivator, though. I've been at a faster pace since then (5.4 up to 5.7). I guess you need a push once in a while to get going in the right direction.

Ok girlies can I rejoin the running cult? I have been on and off with my running. I am stuck at about wk6 of the c25k everytime I try to progress I end up making my shins very very angry at me lol. I have having to stay there till I am comfortable enough to move on and then I feel failure and stop running altogether. I am going to have a cramped schedule soon and no gym membership. I own a treadmill at home and I miss the feeling I get after a good run! Y'all have inspired me, I am running this afternoon.

I finished my second workout of week 2, I was SO SO sore today. For some reason I decided to do Tae-Bo yesterday, for an HOUR! Not going to do that again! I feel a long way away from running 30 minutes straight, more stretching tonight in hopes that I can get some kinda workout in tomorrow.

i had this big reply to you stephie - i don't know where it went. but basically it said - have you changed your shoes in a while? is there proper cushion in them? also do you ever run on soft surfaces - not concrete - and I believe the treadmill is also hard to run on. I am lucky and have never had problems with my shins - even when training for hte marathon - but once they get hurt i hear its bad news (easier to hurt again). I heard you could do weights for them - and make sure you stretch them and your achilles heal.

So on wed we had track work out - wee did 8 400s - progressing from a slow 400 to a fast 400 in the fourth rep - then back to slow and up to fastest by 8th rep - 90% - resting in between each one for half the time it took you to run the 400. So I did a 400 in 1 minute 50 and then would rest for half that time (that was my fastest) - Imagine I could run a mile at that pace - wow - I would be under my goal of 8 minutes - super cool. wonder what my time would be if I did just 1 mile... haven't done that in forever. I did a 740 in HS and would love to get back to that.

Oh - that was called a taper run - because it was shorter - I ran an extra mile at the end bringing my mileage up to 4 miles for the evening.

Go me!

bida - congrats on getting faster

So running is put on hold for me until the end of this week, maybe longer, we'll see. Yesterday I broke my middle toe, I stubbed it against a wall, it's looking pretty gross. And I definitely don't want to hurt it even more.. so for now I let it heal. Which is SO frustrating!!!
