Ok wk5d1 of my c25k program is in the bag. God this one felt good. I went out at dusk, thought the sun would probably go down on me. But low and behold it was still light out when I left. The first two running intervals were amazingly easy...what a difference from when I started. On the last 5 minute running interval I could begin to really feel it on the last minute and a half or so...but still I am just floored with my progress. Running is so addicting! That sense of accomplishment!

Ok just got day 2 done...wow I thought I was going to die when I saw those intervals increase by 3 minutes...but I got through it, amazingly easily actually. Peeked at the schedule (I need to stop doing that lol) and the next run has me running for 20 minutes eek! That is like 9 more minutes than I can ever remember running in my life. Feels awesome to have a chance of actually doing it though. God this program is great I feel like an infomercial...

So where is everyone? How are things going? Brito? How is your running going? Denice is week 5 kicking your butt too? Maja getting any more running along the beach in (I am still jealous!)

Stephie you are doing fab! By the end i know you'll be running 30mins non stop and kicking *ss! Do you have a 5k event lined up?

I just posted in the Exercise Forum about how unmotivated im feeling this week. i started off super motivated after the 5k on sunday but now my enthusiasm has hit rock bottom. I need an energy kick to get me going!

I was just thinking how everyone has disappeared this week! Come on ppl, get posting with your running stories! I love reading them!

So wk5day3 done YAY! Once again it jumped up a notch...went from two eight minute intervals to 20 mins non stop yikes! Got about 11 mins in when my calves started locking up...took about 30 mins to just walk and stretch them then started in again on my running and guess what...I DID IT! It helped that there was the gorgeous running goddess on the track with me, she ran faster and farther than I did, and then headed for the bleachers to run the stairs...I wanna be her... I am thinking about running a mock 5k in the next couple of days to get an idea on what my time might be.

bone idle - I have a couple of options as far as a 5k for the end of the program. I need to sign up for one to use as extra motivation.

Stephie - just sign yourself up! Its the best motivation knowing that you've already put your name down. It sounds like you're ready for the 5k already!

I went to a 5k time trial at the wkend. It takes place every week and your time is recorded and posted on a website. Its basically a race against yourself and everytime you go back you try to beat your time. I did 31mins 12 sec last wkend which is a 28sec improvement. Not much I know but any motivation is good!

Havent been out running since then. Am hoping to get out tonight but the combination of a driving lesson, sore throat and rain might just be too much for me!

Stephie you are doing fantastic! I think you should def sign up for a 5k! You can totally do it.

Bone idle, that's really neat about the time trial thing. That might be good for me to start trying even on my own. I can run far, I just don't get there very fast at all.

I haven't run since Saturday. I'm tired and lazy and just don't want to My roomie who I normally run with in the AM has been having to go in to work early. I just can't seem to get out of bed if I know she's not going to be waiting for me!

Any one want to kick me in the butt and tell me to get moving!

I finally went for a run yesterday, yay!
Just 16 minutes, and I covered less than 2 lenghts of my dirt road, but at least it was something - and I was quite happy with it, actually. I don't understand why I was so worried and scared... I'll do my best to keep with it now.

Denice, at the moment you can only guess as to whether or not you'll be able for it so keep going with the wk5 schedule. Give wk5 day1 a try and if it gets too much take walking breaks of 1-2mins to recover. You'll have a good idea then if you should keep going with wk5 or go back and re-do wk4.

Well wk6d1 is over and done with. Felt really good once again. I really tried to push myself. I could tell I was going a bit faster than I normally do and still feeling capable. Still not looking to day 3 though 25 mins in a row...brutal

bone idle - So I have been looking for an event but I cannot seem to find one near me...I have to travel soooo much for work I really don't want to have to go too far out of town. Oh well guess I will just keep looking.

AmberD - get moving! There did that do anything...Have you gotten a run in yet?

denice - just jump back in hun. Week 5 isn't too hard...the last day can be a killer though maybe do workouts one and two and see how you feel...if you need more time then to one and two again before doing the 3rd...

sushi - Glad to see you are running again. I know you will keep it up, you are so dedicated.

Ok so question for you all and esp. any one who has done the c25k program...

I am on week 7 now but thinking maybe I should repeat some weeks. Here is my rationale. The program tells me to walk for 5 mins then run for 25 minutes OR 2.7 miles...up until recently I had been hitting the local track and running for 25 minutes not worrying to much about my distance. Then it got to me...I am signing up to run a certain distance not a certain length of time. Maybe I should be running the distance regardless of how long it takes. SO Sunday I tried to run the 25 minutes like they suggest and see if I can up with the right distance...I was right at 2 mi. So now I am all bummed that my progress may have been superficial...When it makes a suggestion like 25 minutes OR 2.7 mi which should I do as a beginner? Oh and as far doing 2.7 IN 25 minutes - I am laughing already

Steph- I'd stick with trying to make your time if you aren't signed up for anything yet. When you are able to run for longer periods of time the distance will come easier after. If you are signed up for something...I'd start really getting the distance in and not care about how long it takes you.

I bet you can do the distance.

(Welcome back to thread Bida!) haha. I have been traveling for the past month and doing not so much running. First Vegas then NY (where I did the beautiful central park loop (6 miles) then Israel and Jordan and back to NY. Now that I am back in LA it is time to get SERIOUS again. Really!

So I ran for the first time in a while on thursday - well that was more like a walk for 2 hours and I ran a mile. Then on friday I ran about 3 miles - wierd thing was my body actually was really tired by the end - not my cardio, just my legs and stuff - it was odd. And then I ran again yest - prob about 3.2 miles - but I was a bit tired again.

I am thinking of getting the ipod nano with the new nike miiage counter thing (of course that doesn't come out for another month) - anyone see that or have something similar? I would love to get a heart monitor GPS thingie - but so much $$$!!!

So steph to continue my reasoning, you can already run 25 minutes - you have been doing that for a while it seems - so I think you can push it up a notch - so you are running 12.5 minute miles - there is nothing wrong with that - and that means in another like 8 minutes you will be doing the other .7 - think about what 8 minutes is - not a very long time - it seems like forever when you are running perhaps - but that is when the distraction comes in - notice things around you - the trees, the people, how good it feels to accomplish your goals.

if you really want to start getting faster then you will have to start incorporating speed workouts to your training - these are things like sprinting and then resting sprinting resting (resting means walking or slow jog) - I need to start doing that! (plus its a really good cal burner!)

I still have to catch up with the thread as this is my first post since I've been back - but proud to see the runners thread is still going on!

oh yeah - and I wanted to post this - if I can (it's a link) to a routing planner - it's pretty cool - can map the mileage with the click of your mouse!

pilatesgrl - I have my first race on Aug 6th, but I think you are right about keeping with time since that is what I have been doing.

bida - Wow sounds like you travel quite a bit, hope you had fun. I have just a mp3 player and was thinking about getting a chronograph for my mileage and lap storage...I had heard about that ipod though, sounds awesome! I think I am ok being slow for now since I am just starting out...but speed work will be right around the corner. PS That tool you posted is awesome! Will be one of my lifetime bookmarks!
