Question : 1/2 c fiber one cereal is 100 cals here in Canada...where as in America its only 60 calories. Why is this?? I feel so jipped lol.

Ali and Platform That helps a lot! Thank you! It helps to see an example.

Feral I was doing LA weight loss and then tried doing CC with that.. but I decided just to try CC. But I am going to try and use the same mentality as I did with LA... need to get all the food groups in.. especially veggies.

Jenny That is weird! Shouldn't it be the same?? I wouldn't think it would be made differently.. hmmm

Shortandfluffy - I think I forgot to mention, but SparkPeople tells me to eat 50% Carbs, 30% Protein, and 20% Fat - so I eat 190-270g of carbs, 38-66g of fat, and 60-148g of protein. Another thing I track is my sodium intake.

Kelli - I link my fitday, so you can see what I eat.

I'm in class right now and pretty unprepared. Whoops. Time to fake it.

I got my blood work results back from the doctor today and it turns out that my Vitamin D levels are low. I don't really know what it means, but my number was like 30-something and it's supposed to be around 80ish? (I might have the numbers wrong from one of the other tests). So, I have to take some vitamin D supplements. Anyone else been in this situation?

It's never been Vitamin D, but my iron levels are constantly low. I've been on and off supplements since I was a preteen because of my anemia. And on the opposite end of the spectrum, because of my PTC, I've had to keep Vitamin A to a minimum (which sucks because Vitamin A-rich foods are delicious).

That's weird that your Vitamin D is low. Your body naturally produces it if you're in sunlight. If you don't get enough, you can drink fortified milk/yogurt, eggs, mushrooms, and some fish species (I forget which one). I like getting nutrients from natural foods but I'm all for supplements as well if you need it

Feral - We need to catch up on GChat! Hope you're doing well and yay to coming back to calorie counting.

Haley - I'm going to make plain mac & cheese and later one I'll make my crazy version with a bunch of stuff. I'm thinking I'll make it tomorrow night so I can write the recipe and give it to you by this weekend.

Jenny - I had 1900 calories yesterday and was still hungry before bed.

And the reason for that is because I ran 4.97 miles. I was going to finish 5 and go for the full 10K but the treadmill quit on me after an hour. That's the max time limit you can run. Time for the 4.97 was 59 minutes. Not bad. Working my way up the running ladder!

mary- I'm from blue bell...which usually when I say that people mistaken it with Blue Ball which is near lancaster, or just have never heard of it. I'm 20 minutes from the greatest place on earth: king of prussia mall!

I'm going to the phillies game on my birthday, April 17. I'm SOOO excited!! I love my boys! And it's a must to go to one dollar dog night. If you go to a phillies game, you go for your all!

Jenny In the US, food manufacturers are allowed to subtract calories from fiber from the total calorie count. In Canada, they have to list those as regular calories. Have you heard of hungry girl? She wrote about in one of her articles.

feral I live in Stone Mountain, just a few minutes from the actual mountain. I think you have a great plan to lose the weight. Calorie Counting always works for me. South Beach, however, is another story. I felt like I was gonna eat my kid. I hope it works out for you, though.

Someone asked about a typical meal while CC-ing. Here is a typical day for me.

b-oatmeal with almond butter, .5 a banana, a little milk
s-fruit or TLC bar
l-sandwich thin with a morningstar burger or turkey slices, light cheese, fruit or vegetable or maybe baked chips on the side (sometimes fruit and baked chips)
d-on meat days I have baked or BBQ chicken or fish with a starch like a baked potato, whole wheat pasta etc. Salad. On non-meat days I might have black beans and brown rice topped with sour cream and light cheese with a huge salad.
s-I like to have Edy's slow churned or a bar while studying.

Jess ~ I don't like mushrooms or fish, most of the time go to work and leave work when it's still dark out, and really should drink more milk. LOL I have been thinking that I needed at least a multivitamin recently, so at least it's good knowing one area that needs some work at least.

How does this make sense - So I posted the question about fibre one and recieved a prompt reply about the rules regarding nutrition labels in Canada and US. Canada is to count 4 calories for every gram of fibre or something - hence why my 1/2c serving of fibre one is 100 cals, but in the US it is 60 cals. Strange isn't it - if I lived in America, I'd have 40 extra calories for breakfast (a serving of fat free yogurt, perhaps) ... Just some food for thought- kind of has me wondering!

Chele - Yeah, Vitamin D is naturally produced by your body so just go for a walk in the sun if you can during break or something! You NEED to get normal amounts of Vit. D though, cause it helps in calcium absorption and since we're girls, we're prone to osteoporosis. Boo@us.

Jenny - That's strange lol. I thought a calorie was the amount of energy needed to raise water one centigrade or something. It should be standardized. Who knows. You Canucks :P

Jess - LOL! If my fibre one was 60 cals, I'd be eating a heck of alot more of it! Maybe I'll pick up a box in Boston haha, then I won't feel guilty eating it!!

I can't stop eating - I even drank 2 ltrs of water in the last 20 minutes (which is dumb cuz now I'll be up all night peeing!!) and I'm effing hungry - but I shouldn't be!! I'm eating grape tomatoes - like the whole box!!! could be worse I supposed but for frig sakes!! I have no control - I'm blaming it on ovulation and the rainy weather and my sore back and everything else I can blame it on that I can't think of right now!

BLAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
