I hope everyone had a great week and are doing well. It's been awhile since I checked in and wanted to before we moved to page three of posts . This was the first week since my staff person's last day last Friday. I'm whooped doing keeping both his and my position tasks. I hope you'll allow me a few moments to vent.

It's also been an odd week emotionally. I think I've mentioned in this thread that my working time with this particular person has been an ongoing challenge of helping him overcome procrastination, meeting deadlines and having him grow services for our transfer students that fell under his purview. Of course he was never alone in these tasks as I was often there to help, support and build alongside of him. What I realized after several years of working alongside of him is that he was very good if assigned a specific task that needed to happen in the moment. He was also outstanding at supporting others' ideas. What he wasn't very good at was working in the abstract or innovation. He couldn't really develop anything on his own even if I provided the idea. Folks who are good at the abstract are great at taking something and running with it and taking calculated risks. After awhile I just stopped putting new ideas out there because I knew he couldn't execute. This week has been an eye-opener for me and has made me realize that I had built up a pretty big head of resentment toward him and his approach to work. Now that I'm back to working so closely with our peer staff (whom he supervised), I'm seeing how his work habits and disorganization has rubbed off on them. You may be wondering why I didn't just fire this person and it's a legit and good question. I work for a major university in Student Affairs and he is a staff member I inherited when I became the director of this unit. Once you pass your six months probationary period it is d*** near impossible to fire someone unless they do something illegal or truly egregious. And to be honest, he did a lot of good work and was a fantastic adviser to our students. He was also the kind of colleague I, or anyone else in the unit could ask for help at any time. This position wasn't a fit for him. I hope he finds that perfect fit. In the meantime, this whole experience has given me greater insight into the qualities I need in his replacement. [End of rant.]

As for my weight, I was surprised to see 204.5 on the scale this morning. I've been on the go all week and while I have eaten full meals and not gone hungry at all, my eating has been off. I've also been exhausted so some nights this week it was all I could do to eat a little something, watch some television and then go to bed.

I appreciate you all and indulging me. I'll try do some individual replies this weekend.

Wishing everyone a great start to their weekend

Good morning everyone,

I hope you're all having a great weekend! CurvyNotLumpy, Congrats on seeing 204.5. You are getting closer to onederland!

All is going good with me. Eating was good this week and I've not missed a day of exercise since 1/1. The scale has been slow moving but I'm ok with that as I usually don't lose as fast when I up my exercise.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

GettinFit: Way to go, you’re on a roll!

Curvy: Hi there! That situation with your former colleague sounds incredibly frustrating but I completely understand what you mean. As you said though, a great silver lining is that now in his absence you have a much better understanding of the qualities that would be beneficial for his replacement to have You’re so close to Onederland!! You’ve got this! Hope you have a great weekend

I woke up early today (have to work tonight) and finally got a chance to collaborate with my friend’s sister (she lives far away and we keep missing each other with calls/messages) to put the finishing touches on her bachelorette weekend. Right now the bride believes her bachelorette is going to be an old-school, low-key party the night before the wedding after the rehearsal; little does she know her boss and coworker are in on the surprise with us and are taking her out of town to our party location under the guise of a work expo. I can’t wait to see her face when she gets to the hotel and sees all of us!

Not as much of a bump up today as I was expecting after working out yesterday. Dinner for work this weekend is keto-friendly stuffed peppers, arugula salad, and the usual keto chow shake. Hope everyone has a great weekend

RunningRedHead that sounds like a great surprise you have planned for your friend's bachelorette party. Takes a lot of planning and coordinating to get that done, Glad to see that are you over the worst of your cold.

curvynotlumpy rant away anytime you want, this is a safe place for it. I hope you will be able to quickly fill the position left vacant by the member of your staff who left the other week, don't want to overexert yourself. Despite all of your frustrations with this person's work over the years, at least you are now in a position to replace him with someone better equipped to handle all of the various tasks required in this job, and not just some of the work load.

GettinFit you are being so consistent with your plan, I am impressed!

Here we are the 13th of January and I am still eating on plan. I am now focusing on drinking more water, after one week of getting to 1L each day. My goal this week is to do one workout each day that I have off from work, when there is no excuse not to exercise. I'll build on that eventually, I feel that this is what I can handle right now to start.

Hope everyone will have a great week ahead

Good evening everyone,

Martine: Your plan sounds great! I need to join you on drinking more water. I've only been averaging about 5 glasses a day. I can't believe we're already 13 days in. Keep up the good work!

RunningRedHead: The bachelorette party sounds like so much fun! You'll have to be sure and let us know how the surprise goes.

Today has been another good day for me (except not enough water). I did a Firm DVD this morning. I hadn't done that particular one in a long time and I really enjoyed it. It was a great workout

I hope everyone has a great OP week

GettingFit: Nice to meet you, as well!

Martine: That is hilarious about the Christmas tree in the bathroom...definitely not something you see or hear about every day, that's for sure! I agree that it seems like an extraordinarily random/odd kind of prank -- wonder what made them think of choosing to do that specific thing, lol.

Kayla: Thank you!

Curvy: I'm sorry for all you've had to deal with at work with the colleague in question...I hope he finds a better fit in another position and that you can get things going smoothly again in his absence!

--------------------------

Checking in at the end of the week now that it's my weekend. It's been rough getting my schedule switched around and is something I'm still working on. I've also been sick all week, which definitely isn't helping. Needless to say, I am TIRED ...lol. Speaking of which, my weigh-in of 173.0 today will almost certainly pop back up some tomorrow because I slept through my alarm by a good 4 hours, so I weighed in very late. I'm trying to keep a partial overnights schedule on my days off too so I don't have to keep switching back as much for the work week but am still able to see my family a little, but it's still a little rocky. I assume balancing the routine will become easier as time goes along. That said, classes started back up today, so I am using my alone time on my off days overnights to get in as much school work as possible to get a head start on it for the week. We'll see how everything goes...lol.

As for health and weight loss stuff...obviously, a 9.4 lb loss is definitely not indicative of a normal week, but it's still nice to see that holiday visitation bloat coming back off quickly. I think it's because the new job I'm working is very physical work, so it's like being at the gym most of the day, lol. At the very least, it's certainly made it a lot easier to surpass my step goals every day. Between that and being too busy to overeat on my work days, it's made it fairly automatic to stay on-plan. It will be my water intake and my weekends I will have to watch out for, I think....because I definitely don't feel like moving a muscle today or tomorrow.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Daydreamer: Welcome back!

---------------------

As expected, I jumped back up a bit today to 173.6, but that is fine considering the overall loss for Week Two. Hope everyone is doing well! I'm starting to get my ability to taste back, so I'm hoping that means that my being sick is nearing an end...fingers crossed! Haha. (Apologies for my weigh-ins seeming to be a day behind -- being on night schedule has my weigh-ins happening closer to 8pm now, and sometimes I don't get a chance to record them until the following morning, like today. So, there may be some posts made on the same date, but they will each reflect the correct day they were from on my post.)

Casey: Good luck to you this semester! Glad to hear you’re adjusting (sort of) to the wonder that is night shift. Hope you feel better soon!

Martine: It has definitely been a lot of planning, but the planning and “being sneaky” to coordinate what will hopefully be a memorable surprise has been so fun, I can’t wait to see the look on her face! Way to go eating OP so far, that’s awesome! Kudos on the water, also!

GettinFit: Will do! Glad to hear your workouts are going well and you’re still OP!

DayDreamer26: Welcome back! Great job on your progress so far

My posts may become few and far between; my semester started on Monday and I think the course load may be heavier this semester than last due to content, despite being the same number of credit hours. I’ve been using shark week the last couple of days as carte blanche to eat whatever I want (staying keto, but not really counting calories) and between that and water retention from this TOM, the scale is reflecting that. Now that the worst of the cravings have passed, it’s time to buckle back down and get back on track

SW: 228.6

Total for January: +2.2

Opheliaphoenix:OMG! You have done A HUGE progress, I remember being around when you first came back, I am so happy for you!!!! Makes me wonder where I'd be if I had stuck with it instead of going off and putting more weight on... Definelty an inspiration! I do hope you feel better soon, being sick is the worst!

RunningRedHead: Thankyou! ^^ You have also been doing amazing! I am sure you'll manage school just fine!

---

Weigh-in at 221.1 lbs this morning. Ever since Christmas weight loss seems to have slowed down a tad, probably due to the fact that I ditched the gym when December started due to "life" and I have yet to go back... I will definetly try to get my behind there at least 2-3 times by the end of next week. Hopefully I can start tomorrow.

I have been rather frustrated lately, I mean don't get me wrong I am happy to see how far I have come thus far , 28.7 lbs lighter is no joke, and yet... In the past when I have tried to lose weight my starting point was around 220 - 225 lbs and so, I have been trying SO hard for 13 weeks but it feels as if I have just started. I guess what I am trying to say is, I can't believe I got to be that heavy and I NEVER want to go back up that high. I keep telling myself progress is progress, and in another 13 weeks I should be about to leave on a trip, hopefully, another 34 lbs lighter.

Anyway,

SW: 226.6 lbs
GW: 215.3 lbs
To Go: 5.8 lbs

01/14: 221.5 lbs
01/15: 222.0 lbs
01/16: 221.1 lbs
01/17:
01/18:
01/19:
01/20:

Total Lost January: 5.5 lbs

GettinFit congrats on completing 19 days on plan so far. I too still struggle with water intake, 5 glasses a day is about right for me too. I remember seeing commercials for The Firm DVDs, brings me back.

opheliaphoenix I hope you will adjust even better to your overnight schedule. Have you ever worked nights before? Great job on losing all your Holiday gain so quickly.

DayDreamer26 welcome back I understand your frustration about currently being where you had your starting point in the past, but your focus should really be on the 28 pounds already gone which is fantastic! Wishing you success on starting back at the gym.

RunningRedHead what makes the course load more demanding this semester? Is it because it's newer subject matters, more reading/writing to be done at home? In college I hated courses which required a ton of work at home. I'm a procrastinator by nature so it made for very stressful nights before the class. Glad you are back on track after shark week.

I haven't reached my goals this past week. I did not exercise on my day off and I did not drink enough water. We also had take-out one evening because I finished work much too late and David's shoulder was aching so neither of us really wanted to cook. I did lose one more pound this week, bringing my total loss to 4 pounds this month, which I'm happy about. My goal this week remains to drink more water and exercise on my two days off.

Just like RunningRedHead said, everyone in the path of the snowstorm (like me) stay safe and everyone enjoy a great day.
