Morning all. Thank you for the feedback on the ties. I called my sisters for suggestions and all told me absolutely not to wash the ties. Right now they don't stink but they have the unique smell that was my Dad. So, as much as I want to start with absolutely clean items, the only ties that will get washed are the ones that were destined to be thrown away due to stains just in case I need extra material.

I'm coming out the other side of this migraine (finally). This was a 4 day head banger. I range from silent migraines where I get the other symptoms (light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, etc) but no pain to being slammed with pain, nausea, etc. This one was the full blown disaster one. As long as my stomach isn't involved and I don't feel like I'm spinning, I fight through. I was off Thursday, went to work Friday with my head pounding because I could hold down food, and went to the laundromat yesterday. I was raised to keep going till you can't anymore. My mom rarely took to her bed with a migraine. I'm the same way. In one way it's good since I don't miss work or fall behind on things that need done around here. In another maybe I wouldn't have them so long if I gave in and let myself be sick. I don't know because I can't make myself give in to them. Old habits die hard.

Lemon glad to see the scale moving again for you. I know how frustrating it is.

I need to share a tidbit my doctor shared with me when I told him I was struggling the first time I lost weight (2 years ago). He said your brain does a body scan daily like a computer scans for problems. While you are losing the brain says, "ok some weight is coming off we better monitor this." After a certain amount is lost the brain goes"Whoa! Hold up everybody! Something is wrong. Don't use more fat cells until we make sure we're not starving. We gotta hang on to the fuel." That's when you hit a plateau. After a short time of you sticking to the diet and eating right, the brain goes "ok you can start using the fat cells again. Everything is ok. Then the next plateau the same thing happens. We just have to be patient and not give up and the weight will start dropping again. (My doctor is an old Italian who loves to tell stories to explain medical conditions.)

Hope everyone else is doing well. I'm going to allow myself a nap before I have to get started on this afternoon's chores.

Fire: well, that unique smell of your dad might just trigger memories for others. You never know. Nice that you are doing these type of special gifts! Glad the migraine is about over. I can't see or say anything exciting about such, just glad it's moved on for you. Thank you for your Italian doctors view on weight loss, it helps put it in perspective.

Les: Your cookies are lovely as are your crocheted pieces! Sorry, not hungry looking at them - I just had dinner so I was safe You do a really nice job with them. I have tried cake decorating for my kids cakes and my hand about falls off, so kudos to you for a great job! Yes and the scale moving was really a plus today I finally wore earrings! I haven't for a long time because my face has been heavy and I think it draws attention where I don't want it. But today I celebrated the move.

Hello all!

AM: I am loading up for another canning/freezing session for my winter stores. I have apples/pears/peppers/tomatoes and hopefully onions to get processed over the week and get in storage. I aim to be stocked full to get me to next fall when I will do it all over again. The grocery had sales on the pears and peppers and my ILS had a good bounty in their garden. Woot. Something more to add to my list.

Another small victory, i think my smallest back fat roll has left. I am not 100% positive as who can view their back well, but I noticed it's not there when I have my bra on today. YEAH.

Ok, I think I will go w/the slowness and just keep it moving as it moves. Just finished my 64 oz of water too. So my goal in 4 days is to shove off two more pounds. I will not hop on the scale until then. Here's hoping!

With gusto I attack today and will try to eat only the calories my app is allotting me. I went over by 100 yesterday. I can say this - I had to go to SAMS and I did not eat any samples as I walked around the store. I surprised one taste tester and said I was on diet and she gave me the funniest look. I know one little taquito won't kill me, but who wanted to open that door? Not me. Do any of you find you can walk by these people? I said no thank you. The only time was after 3 hours of shopping and my morning snack I did have one small piece of cheese pizza one was offering. That ended up being my lunch until I got home. I didn't want to be compelled to have a coke as I was ordering drive thru so, ignoring that I did ok.

What all do you find to be the food that is like your own personal gremlin - you know, the one that tempts and calls your name when you are fighting like heck to ignore a craving?

On my drive I noticed the grasses/corn and soybeans are all turning golden. NO! I am not ready for winter. However I am making sure to save summers goodness in the things I am putting up to enjoy in the winter. I may be getting two more bags of apples from the local orchard, one bag to peel and slice for the freezer and the other to dehydrate for snacks for the kids. That was my gift one year from DH, my dehydrator. It's mighty nice to have. I have made fruit leathers already this summer w/last season's fruit. What's your favorite meal in the cold winter?

Amber: How was your trip?

Les: As I said, you do a beautiful job decorating! Are you using a sugar cookie as your base? Is this your career? I can see where the sweets might get you! How did you get into decorating of sweets? Whats your favorite to do?

Mam: How's the healing going? Any good menu ideas for this week? I came home w/16 green peppers HUGE and the checkout gal gave me a strange look and asked how I was eating them. I said though I love a good pepper, these get chopped up and into the freezer for the soups/casseroles etc that I make all year long.

Fire: hope the headache is long gone and you are back to a good place! I bought two more small Christmas gifts yesterday and ordered two more online. Better to do it in small batches right now. You'll have to post a picture of your tie project, I am interested in seeing how you do them up, plus I'd love to see how wild of ties your dad wore back in the day!

Happy day Violets! Lets shake off some pounds this week. Does anyone have any mini challenges set for themselves? Mine is 2 more lbs by the 17th. I am not weighing until then if I can help it. Eat wisely today!

Hey violets,

Lemon good job on going by those tempting foods testers, I do not test anything with sugar. I will test proteins without batter.

I food that I stay away from is any kind of processed sugar. Natural sugars in fruits do not start a binge. But let me have a bite of cookie or cracker and it's the whole box no bars hold. I am like an addict I just CAN'T have ONE.

You live in the country? You do so much canning and freezing.

Amber hope you enjoyed Boston.

Carol if it is only smell in those ties, I would put them on the line outside on a cool crisp fall wind day. If your head can take it put some Febreeze on them first. And the longer they stay outside the better. Hope your headache is better.

My aim is to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week and be patient with myself. Being 56 I know I can no longer see big numbers on the scale. I will give myself the time I need to lose this weight. I must be happy with what the scale says or I will just defeat myself.

What are you looking forward to when you reach goal?

I am looking forward to just be happy in my own skin.
Also going places and not being the heaviest person there.

Mam: I look forward to not hurting every time I get up from sleeping or riding in a car. I aim to be able to enjoy chasing my kids more than I do now w/o petering out or not having interest when I should. And I like to wear a dress that doesn't have to be specific to hiding a body - no I am not talking skin tight - just one if it has a full or circle skirt fine. I have really been reduced down to a-lines because of my shape and sometimes those still look like an upside down umbrella on me. This is a silhouette I'd love to leave behind.

As for my location - northern WI, mostly rural. My town is one of 1400 and I have to go 45 minutes either direction for major shopping. Really major shopping is a run to the twin cities. My ILs have a farmette w/a huge garden, about a dozen fruit trees and a small barn for the animal of the year - last year it was beef this year pigs. Said pig will go to market in two weeks and I will have a freezer full of pork soon. I live in an area that is a heavy berry producer, apple orchards and such, so I take advantage of them. The pears I got at the grocery, as the only pear tree that beared well was one on my uncles property and he passed away two years ago. So I make due with what I can get. My kids love fruit as do I and in the winter, sadly our main fruits are apples, oranges and bananas. So if I can throw in summer berries it's a welcome change. Yes, I can get other fruits from the southern hemisphere when it's their summer, but a lot comes from Chile and I find that the produce always has a very strange taste, part metallic part something else so I usually do not buy grapes or other fruits during the winter because of this.

My house is smelling good - I am doing slow roasted tomatoes today, so very strong basil and oregano smell. By the end of the day I will have a whole bunch to put into the freezer for sandwich or pizza sauces. I keep them in their halves until I go to use them. Sometimes I just flatten them, sometimes run through the food processor. But as they roast it smells divine.

I best get on w/my day. So far so good. No strong urge to snack thus far - thankfully! That's always a huge hurdle to get over for me.

Hello everyone! My name is Sami and I live on the coast of Southern California. I have read all of your posts and would love to join your group for support. I used to follow an extremely low carb diet (under 20 carbs per day). I did lose weight doing it, however I just couldn't continue with consuming mostly eggs, meat, and cheese. I just felt sick all of the time. Then, I injured my back and couldn't exercise for two months. I gained most of the weight back. Now I am back on plan. I have decided not to count carbs (even though I do stay away from white flour, sugar and rice). I watch my calories and am just eating healthy. I get up every morning at 4 am and go to the gym for an hour of cardio. I have been doing this for two weeks and have made it a habit. That first 4 am wake up was not fun but now I love getting my workout completed before my day begins. Before, something would always come up to derail my evening workout.

I hope everyone is having an "on plan" day!

Hey violets,

Lemon I thought you lived in a rural area. I grew up in a rural area. Now I live in a more suburban area. Stores are 5 minutes away. If I really had to I could walk. But I would have a hard time carrying anything back. Plus roads that way are very busy.

Sam welcome to the garden. We will be looking forward to getting to know you and support you on your journey down the scale.

May you Shrink will us...

Sami: Welcome! Good for you for making exercise a priority. I find it hard some days to fit in with my kids and family and all that needs to be done there. But I do at least get there 3X a week. I'd like to do 5 as per my doctors recs but I am not there currently w/ all my projects. Hopefully your shrinking goes well!

Mam: Yep - total podunk here! It's nice, but when it comes to shopping it becomes a full day type of trip and trying to hit as much as I can do or my pocketbook can afford. I got 3/4 of the tomatoes done and I am finishing up the pears tonight. Tomorrow I will do the apples and maybe the peppers or if I am super ambitious I might do those during the 2 football games. Will see.

AM: Calories for day in and short 40, so that's good too. I think. I really filled up on veggies so that was a big help. Still did not hop on the scale today, so that too was good. I will not get to move tonight, I have been tied to my kitchen and will work on the foodstuffs some more. I just read an article that there is a group of people who think the worlds to end again. That's not why I am putting away my summer goods, but I guess it always amazes me who and what fear the end. The end is when you die but those are my beliefs.

In the meantime, my shorts are way loose today, as in I stand up and they are way down. Beautiful. Well I can keep that going I hope, the app suggested if I can keep pace w/loss I "could" be down to goal weight in 7 mos to 11. Well, that'd be a lovely achievement. Even being 233 in October, I haven't been that since last year.

Happy evening all Violets!

Hi everyone! Welcome Sami! This is a great group for support, so you are starting off well. Good luck!

Fire, I am glad you are finally starting to feel better!

Lemon, thank you so much! Yes, I love to bake and am trying to make a living at it eventually. I'm not too tempted while baking them. If they sit around here afterwards it can be a different story. but as long as I am baking for others, it's all good.

Mam, my biggest weakness has always been soda. I love it and one sip will turn into several sodas per day. I just know I will have to give them up forever, and I'm ok with that at this point. And I am looking forward to so much that's it is hard to pick just a few, but I'll try.

Trying on clothes and actually finding things that work for me and actually make me look nice and well put together. Feeling stronger. Having a body that works with me instead of against me. Being less tired and more present in my everyday life.

Today was another bloated day for me. Up 2.2 pounds from yesterday. Hopefully it falls back off soon. Happy scale still dropped my moving average by .4 lbs, so that did make me feel a little better.

Hope everyone has a really good week!

Les: well hopefully this morning scales reading was good.I haven't weighed myself since Sunday and will try not to until the app says weigh in. I kept under my 1398 calories yesterday and that was while I was canning and making my house smell good w/the tomatoes. Yes - your cookies - how do you decorate the top? I've seen similar but never knew how it was done. I am spread on the frosting type of gal w/ my sugar cookies and throw on some sprinkles.

Mam: how are you doing today? Are you upping your walking times as you heal?

Fire: how's the head doing?

Sami:
Did you make your workout this am?

Hello Violets!

AM:
Got my oven on and my big pot of water boiling as today is the rest of the tomatoes, the apples (canned) and chopping up my peppers for the freezer? Did I say my freezer is a big chest one? So right now it still looks kind of empty. Maybe a good time to defrost it soon. I am pleased w/that progress of putting things away.

My weight - well since i haven't been on the scale since sunday, I'd say ok. I kept under calories yesterday and I had 99oz of water and 4 cups of coffee yesterday, so I think I was hydrated enough. My belly isn't as easy to grab when I am lying down. Yes it's still there but it doesn't seem as pronounced. I measure on Thursdays so will see then. I do hope I have the energy tonight to go move. I didn't last night by the time I finished the pears. I sat down for a break and I was about ready to snooze then.

QOD: When you hit your 50% goal, what do you have plans to do to celebrate that? Or any goal really?

Happy day to all of you!

Good Morning! Thank you all for the kind welcomes.

Lemon: I did not make it to the gym this morning! It is the first morning in weeks I have missed a workout. I woke up at about 3 am and it was pouring raining. It hasn't rained around Los Angeles in forever. I can't even remember the last time. The alarm went off at 4 am and it was still pouring. I knew there would be no way I would make it to the gym and back and still have enough time to get to work on time. I have to take the 405 freeway to the gym and it is bumper to bumper on the way back from the gym at 6:30 on a good day. When it rains here, people act like its a blizzard or something. Traffic comes to a standstill. (I am originally from Ohio, not a native Californian). Anyway, I will have to do my workout after work today.

I am so impressed with all of your canning! Reminds me of growing up with my Mom and Aunt canning. (I do not even cook, let alone can!)

Well, I have been feeling selfish lately. I am 45 years old and I have been a single mom (divorced) for the last ten years to one son. He is now a sophomore in college. He goes to college locally, but stays with his Dad during the week (its closer to his campus) and with me on weekends. I am finally to the point where I do not have to spend my time taking care of others. I am ready to focus on myself for a change. I am contemplating leaving LA and moving back to small town life near my family. Big changes ahead, so I want to be the best me I can be and enjoy the ride!

I hope you all have a great day!

lemon - I wish I had the patience to do all that cooking at once and can and what not! It must be nice to be able to just grab and cook

sami - welcome!

Sorry I was so quiet I was having a rough patch and just was getting over emotional about it lol Got back last night from Boston and it was such a good time! Me and my boyfriend both agreed our 2 favorite parts were Codzilla and the duck boat tour (which we originally thought would be super boring) We only ate about twice each day, nothing healthy lol but we walked and walked and walked and walked so im hoping it cancelled some of it out. I am 100% back on track today and feeling great about it. I AM NOT letting this slip up define me, I will keep this journey going!

How was everyones weekends?

Sami: I can certainly say that in this part of the midwest the only time you really have back up is when you are stuck in traffic w/Illinois people returning home from a weekend up north or of course for gawker alley. Can't say it's ever bumper to bumper in my state, maybe when work lets out and usually only w/in city limits, but generally not. That I don't think anyone would miss! Good for you for taking care of yourself. That's always a nice feeling when you say I will take care of you or treat yourself better than you have been.

Amber: Sorry you had a blue moment. Well, what else can we do but move on and keep going. I am glad you had a nice time in Boston. I hear you on the walking. When I went overseas we ate our way around and drank (it's the Italian thing to do) but I was walking lot. Funny thing was I came home about 10 lbs lighter than when I left. Its funny how that works out.

AM: DONE! for the moment I guess, I still have about 2 doz apples looking at me, I think I will dehydrate those tomorrow. I still have to dig my onions out, I let the weeds overtake them and didn't bother when it was so hot out. They might be icky but I will check and see, they do have to come out of the garden though.

I am anxious to see what the scale says. I was wearing shorts I bought at the start of the summer and they were falling down yesterday. Today not as much, but hey I will take that any day. (had to use that - this broccoli cracks me up, it's like me when I do not put gel in my hair!).

I have my 64 oz of water in me. Yeah! Been trying to be good about such. I guess my skin on my hands isn't as crepey today since I have been drinking so much. Oh well. Another hidden plus. Hey, we need to take our achievements where we can find them. Old lady skin banished! Now my bat wings can go with it and life will be good

Sorry about the rough patch, Amber, glad you're feeling better and back in the game. You are so close to 50 pounds down! Also, I'm glad you and the bf had a great trip!

Lemon, way to go on all the canning! You are making me feel lazy today. The cookies are all made with royal icing which dries hard and allows you to pipe out detailed pictures. I don't really know how I will celebrate my losses along the way. I know when I finally lose it all, I'm getting a tattoo to celebrate and remind myself not to go back everytime I look at it. How will you celebrate your goals along the way?

Sami, good for you finally getting a chance to be selfish. If LA isn't doing it for you, I say move. We only get one life!

I did drop just a little of my bloating water weight, but not the whole 2 pounds. Looks like twice a month I'll have to deal with this little setback, so it's good to get used to them now. My happy scale app still dropped my moving average today to 212, even though the scale is saying 214 this morning. So I'm feeling good anyway!

I hope everyone has a great week!

Oh lordy - I didn't do enough protein at lunch and I am chomping at the bit right now. I so want to stuff my face. So I am starting bottle of water #3 (33oz). Hopefully that tides it off until DH gets home. I can eat w/o him, but I like having family dinner time instead. But I may just have to say sorry I was starving.

Do any of you have go tos that aren't meat for protein that are both carb or calorie friendly? How do you deal w/the afternoon munchies? I am not doing well today with that. I could eat a house, but currently trying to stop said house at the front porch.
