Great job all around for all those numbers heading downward! We're collectively doing a fantastic job of recovering from / pushing past that dreaded holiday season.

Rosinante - Your progress pics are looking great! Have a fantastic time on your trip!

I haven't tried a zumba class yet. BUT! After much pleading I convinced my sister to try an at home dance fitness video with me that had gotten fairly decent reviews on Netflix. We cleared out the living room floor and got started... After fifteen minutes of flailing around our eyes were getting wider and wider at all of the crazy "choreography" that the girls were doing on screen. You mean you want us to move our arms and legs, AND torsos, all at the same time?? In different directions??? Ha ha. So. Maybe a bit more practice in private before I take my skills (or lack there of) out to the zumba floor. I am going to check out our Aquacise class Tuesday night after work with a friend though.

I think I owe a weighin! Only a pound down, but since I gained a bit after the last weighin, it feels like more! Feel like I'm making good choices this week! And all this talk about Zumba had me interested! Gonna have to check out the DVDs!

The only thing I know about Zumba is what I have seen from the class that is right before my Spin Class.... It looks like they enjoy it! I for one, LOVE spinning... I am addicted! :D

That's such a great way to look at it! I was feeling a little bit down that I hadn't lost MORE by this point, but I like the visual of 20 sticks of butter! It's so much more motivating!
Thank you!

I hope linking to this is okay.... I did a google image search for a visualization of fat volume a couple weeks ago. This is a result that comes up for 5 lbs of fat. I can tell that I am looking less pudgy when I look it the mirror, but it is hard for me to tell where 6 of these would have come from off my body so far!!

The challenge is still going well for me, still hitting up the gym as much as I can! Although today when I walked in, they were taking my favorite cardio machine (a seated elliptical) out on a stretcher. :( Hopefully they'll bring it back soon, I loooove how much of a workout it is for both my legs and my arms! It is definitely helping with toning.

I'll be leaving for my own vacation on Tuesday probably, and then no gym for me for a whole week! I hope I won't turn back into a puddle when I get to resume working out.... or eat too much delicious food and push myself back even further from my next mini-goal. 199 is feeling soooo close!

The Last Noel 01-20-2011 11:14 PM

Hahahaha! I didnt know you guys were chatting in this thread. I've just been updating my first page.

I might need to up my goal loss weight. I've lost 13 lbs in my first month. If I can maintain that for two more months well...that would be awesome!

Tried hummus for the first time today. Man that stuff is addicting!

MadamButterfly 01-21-2011 12:20 AM

See it even LOOKS like butter

Patrizia, look at the pic kaebaka posted of the 5 pounds of fat (20 sticks of butter) it even looks like butter and butter is after all just fat . . . just wait until you lose 10 pounds, that's 40 sticks of butter . . . THAT'S A LOTTA BUTTER!!!! Besides I think it helps when your losses are smaller, it's always a lot of butter . . . just keep on moving . . .

foodmasochist - 2 pounds is nothing to sneeze at, it's a great start and from what I understand it's better if it comes off slower . . . don't know for sure but it makes sense . . . we didn't put on the weight in a month or two and we surely are not going to take it off in a month or two . . .

kaebaka - hang in there on vacation, maybe take a DVD, if you have one, sometimes they have DVD machines in the rooms . . . or take some long walks, either way I'm sure you'll do just fine

LastNoel - WOW, 13 pounds, that's wonderful . . . I'm sure you worked for it too . . . keep it up!

Easter is coming and we are all going to melt that butter AWAY!!

Patrizia 01-21-2011 01:09 AM

kaebaka & MadamButterfly: I LOVE that picture (by which I mean, it terrifies me...)! I wasn't quite seeing the difference but now I'm starting to notice it! I actually managed to go to the gym every day this week (exercise is always the last thing I manage to get down...) so I think that is definitely helping my mentality and attitude towards the whole process! I just feel... healthier.

Also, the idea of a seated elliptical sounds wonderful! Do upright ellipticals ALSO help arms, or just the seated version? I've been doing the elliptical at least 30 mins a day (plus some other stuff, of course), but I wasn't sure if it was working more than just the legs.

kaebaka 01-21-2011 12:29 PM

I think that upright ellipticals are also supposed to work your arms, but for me I just feel like I end up waving my arms around! My legs are used to carrying 200+ pounds of weight around... but my arms whine if I try to lift 30. With the seated elliptical (at least the one at my gym) it has a set resistance level and you can sort of work on evening out the amount of work being done with your upper vs. lower body. Plus our brand (Octane) has a couple different workout-booster modes you can turn on and off. One of them is a muscle endurance mode where every 60 seconds it randomly changes the resistance and muscle group. If it switches to arms only, there are pegs above the foot pads to rest your feet on, and it's just your arms doing all the work (for 15 seconds) on a higher resistance level. Painful, but I love it. I can really tell a difference in upper body strength after just a few weeks.

I haven't been in to the gym yet today. I've been trying to get there around 9:30 am, but today I woke up and it was about -10 F outside. Ha ha... I will try to venture out after noon and see if it is warm enough that I can withstand scraping the ice off my car.

And yes, Last Noel. Totally agree with you. Hummus. Soooo tasty. :)
