Good morning ladies!

I got the shot yesterday and so far so good. I wanted to do some more de-cluttering when I got home, but doctor's orders....I had to relax. So I'm upstairs taking pride in the progress I made yesterday and realizing I've got a few more hours of de-cluttering to go.

Happy -- My DH and I live about 1/2 hour north of Milwaukee. We actually met you and your DH a few years ago when you lived in Illinois. The snow storm hasn't hit yet, but we've got about 3" to 5" heading our way. Hopefully, closer to 3".

Rennie -- You mentioned your lungs won't let you do more than 2 miles of video. Do you have asthma too? I do. It's pretty much under control until I exercise. My doc suggested that I use my rescue inhaler 15 minutes before I exercise, and that usually helps. I'm not saying you should try that, but if you do have asthma, you might want to ask your doc. The WATP for the Abs, Waistline, Miracle Mile, Heart Healthy all sound really good! I will have to pick up a couple of those so I have options for days like today when it's too snowy to get to the gym. Did someone mention you're having surgery? What is the surgery for? Rest and take care of yourself, Rennie.

Cee -- that is sad news about your co-worker's granddaughter. So sad to lose a loved one, especially at such a young age and during the holidays.

Holly -- Your DGM looks awesome for 98! What nice photos you posted!! Thank you! My DGM just passed away in her sleep last month at the age of 95. She had very bad dementia for the past couple of years, and in the last 6 months or so, really wasn't alert or coherent. She had a very good long life and was loved by so many.

Melody -- Good for you for putting the pedal to the metal!!

Rose -- How wonderful that you got to celebrate the holidays with your DS and his family, and got to see your DM before they head south!

I like the "Great Chicks of the World Jabbering in January". And I like the idea of theme months too.

Not sure if I'm going to do Bob Greene or the BL or my own thing with this new year. My DH and I promised each other that we would go to the gym at least 3 days a week (though I plan to do more) and our goal would be to lose at least 1 pound a week, so that by the end of 2008, we'll both be at least 50 pounds lighter.

Forgot to mention earlier, when DH and I got together with his aunt, uncle and cousins...one of his cousins, who last year was MUCH heavier than DH, and his wife was as heavy as me or heavier, both had slimmed down A LOT! We asked what they were did, and they had just started going to the gym and exercising regularly. That's the key, isn't it. I lost so many pounds and inches when I was going to the gym regularly -- before I hurt my back. Time for me to get back on track and DO THIS THING! And on that note, I'm going to say TTFN and get to the gym (before the snow storm starts) and do the NuStep.

Be careful driving to Montana. Enjoy the visit with you mom and dad.

Ruth
Things will settle down.

I'm at work today. Will have 36 hours over time on next week's paycheck. We also had evaluations Monday and was pleased with that. Got a very good raise.

Carla
Quit finding Reenie's pounds.

Reenie and Madcat and diyana have a good day.

I did 1/2 hour on the NuStep at the gym and then came back home as the snow was really starting to come down heavy and the roads were getting sloppy, and they are getting worse and worse. We kind of live out in the country, so the plows haven't come by yet. Now on to the task of decluttering.

Cee -- congratulations on the raise and the overtime! I was putting in about 25 to 30 hours of overtime for most of the summer and fall....problem was...I was salary! LOL

I do have asthma but that really isn't the problem. I have low lung capacity because of all the scars on my lungs from being so very sick when I was a child and never going to the doc, we were pretty darn poor. Then having phenomena year after year as an adult just added to the problem. The doc has said the walking videos might do me a world of good. You can't really stretch out those scars to much BUT you can stretch out the lungs a bit with effort. I have made my lungs so much stronger just doing these videos. When I first started to do the walking videos I had to hit pause a lot just to get thru a 1 mile video. Two miles looked impossible. Now two miles are easy. I will get to three one day soon. Not sure I will ever get past 3 but 3 is good.

Melody
Getting fit with faith is great. Leslie is a Christian, if you didn't know that. She started giving lessons in a Church basement as I recall. The walk/aerobic video is great. The music is very inspirational and so are she and the rest of the people in it. We really can't separate our selfs from God. All aspects of our body and soul happen because of him. I sure know that without his help, I could never have made it to where I am today. Weight loss is just another thing he is helping me with.

Happy
Yes, I happen to like the original walk away the lbs one mile. Nice work out. Gets the body moving and makes you feel good. I like Leslie she is such a hoot. I love the way she gabbs and jokes around. She would drive some people nuts but then, I drive some people nuts. I tend to be perky too. If life gives you lemons make lemonade.

When I was told at about 20 years old, after a car accident, I would never walk again. I worked my butt off and prayed and screamed and worked some more and walked. When they told me I would be stuck in a wheel chair at the age of 40, because of my knees and hips and the damage that was done during the accident, I talked to God and kept on my feet even when I didn't want to. At age 46 I am still on my feet. I have a lot to be perky about.

GOOD MORNING WORLDLY CHICKS
THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS I COULD SAY THIS MORNING BUT I THINK I WILL PASS. THERE IS A NEW YEAR RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER AND WE SHOULD BE CONCENTRATING ON A FRESH START AND TAKING THE HIGH ROAD. SO THOSE OF US WITH THAT PROBLEM, LET US NOT FALL INTO OUR OLD TRAPS. SO LET PEACE BE AMONG US AND THE "NEW YEAR NEW US" BEGIN
THAT BEING SAID.....
THE ELECTRIC ROOM WAS DRY THIS MORNING. I SET MY ALARM TO CHECK IT AND MAKE SURE WE HAD A LITTLE HOT WATER AT LEAST AND TO TAKE A FAST SHOWER. DON'T WANT ANY RASHES!!!!!! MET A FEW WOMEN ON THEIR WAY FOR BLOOD TESTS AND REHAB...WISHED THEM WELL ON THEIR JOURNIES AND GOT LOTS OF HUGS. GREAT WAY TO START THE DAY. I AM OFF TO CLEAN UP A WEE BIT AND TO SORT THE LAUNDRY ONCE AGAIN. SEEMS LIKE I SORT IT A LOT AND IT NEVER GETS TO THE LAUNDRY ROOM!! WELL NOW IT WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE PLUMBER NEXT WEEK!!

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND AND STAY SAFE

Quickie again.

Mel, I think I see blood running out of the corner of your mouth as you bite your tongue. Yes, 2008 will be better for us all.

I have two friends coming for lunch today. They were to stay overnight this week but got sick and canceled. I hope they aren't carrying any germs with them! I really can't afford to get sick with my operation and all the pre-op stuff scheduled in January. Lunch will be easy - I have a pre-baked tourtiere thawing, a cabbage salad ready and to **** with dessert! There's fruit and walnuts and the pleasure of my company!

Tonight I have free! No more company expected until Monday when I pick up Mel in Ottawa. Big carols and lessons service in Church tomorrow with coffee and cakes to follow and a dinner party in the evening. When will the feeding frenzy end!

Right now I'm going to zip through with the vacuum cleaner. There were three dogs here Christmas Eve so all food crumbs are gone but there are a few sparkly bits here and there from gift unwrapping and general Christmas dandruff. Then I'm going to sit and read until my guests arrive.

I hope you can grab little moments of tranquility this fifth day of Christmas. I'm still waiting for my five golden rings. (Actually Harry gave me five gold bangles on this day as an anniversary present.)

I Almost Forgot...jen And Richie Called And We All Had A Long Talk. Seems The Dad Took His Girlfriend On A Different Cruise After They Got On Their Ship For Jamaica. Lord Knows Where They Went. Richie Is Still Investigating! THAT'S NOT THE WORST...THE WOMAN IS COMING HOME WITH THEM. THE DAD HIRED HER TO TAKE CARE OF HIS BEDRIDDEN WIFE WHEN SHE GETS OUT OF REHAB!!! CAN YOU SAY THE WORD "LAWYER". THE KIDS ARE GOING TO HAVE YET ANOTHER MEETING TO SEE WHAT THEY SHOULD DO FOR THEIR MOM. VERY TOUGH SITUATION. AND EVEN HARDER TO PROVE.
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT JEN AND RICHIE ARE BEHAVING!! THEY'VE GROWN SOME THESE LAST FEW MONTHS AND THEY KNOW IT TOO. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Default 2008 will be great

Good morning to Mel and Ruth You two are early birds.

Mel
You are right. We should be celebrating the upcoming year. Do away with the old and begin anew I'm going to do just that. Some of my problems have been emotional ones that stems way back to child hood. I told myself the other day that I should forgive those and forgive myself. This is what I'm doing for myself. More trouble brewing on the home front. I think the dad should be examined. He's wanting his cake and eat it too.

Ruth
Take it easy this month. We want you healthy for the pre-op and surgery. Hadn't thought about it being the fifth day of Christmas!! hmm

Been getting ready for the new year at work. The boss brought over a new calendar and this year is leap year.

I'm off today and tomorrow and staying put for once. I told my aunt that I would probably not be there this week end do to the fact it was my short week end. I didn't realize I would be working 2 extra days.

We had evaluations this week. I'd brought my score up to in maintenance so that brought up my total score. I should start changing the light bulbs. I'm pleased with the results and the raise which is effective starting next pay check.

I'll be back to check on the others.

Ruth! You never told us Mel was coming to Ottawa!!! What time does she arrive? I wanna be there too!!!
Seriously though, I loved your comment about Christmas dandruff - never thought of it that way before, but it describes those little bits of debris perfectly. I keep wanting to put my big box of wrapping paper away, but then remember that the spot I usually store it in is full of summer tires.

Mel, I think your post sets a good example for the likes of me, and I'll try to join you on that high road. Good to hear all is well with Jen and Richie. The father sounds like a selfish idiot - no shortage of those in this world!

Happy, are you enjoying the weekend, relaxing in your own bed, with your own stuff, and with good weather to boot? I picture you humming to yourself as you putter in the kitchen, checking on Mr Feral Cat snug in his bed by the back door, considering and then rejecting the idea of a trip to those crowded shops...

Ceejay you're probably at work again, but at least now they're paying you more to be there! Congratulations on the good evaluation and the raise! The extra money will no doubt come in handy, and it always feels pretty good to have our efforts and hard work acknowledged officially. As Shad would say, good on ya!

Madcat, come out, come out, wherever you are! No doubt enjoying some of those daylight hours with DH. Anyway, we miss you when you're not here.

No sign of life from Shad for a couple of days now. Surely she isn't choosing time with DS1 and DS2 over posting to us!! The horror!! Maybe we've gone porno again? Maybe we should all give her a call. The line wasn't very good when we chatted, but I'm pretty sure she said that calls in the middle of the night (her time) were her favourite thing.

Diyana, Good for you for trying to stay active despite some physical obstacles. When I was still a runner there were a few people in the group with asthma. They would use their inhalers as needed, and actually found their condition improved because of the extra exercise! It doesn't work for everyone, but I'm glad to hear it seems to do the trick for you.

to those I've missed. Time to go read the paper, reflect on good and evil, and maybe pluck that nasty chin hair I just discovered. Why do they always seem to just appear, already an inch long? I do regular checks in the 10X magnifying mirror , but they still sneak in all of a sudden. And if any of you youngsters are feeling smug and thinking 'eeewwww - chin hairs, how gross' all I can say is 'better buy a stronger mirror, cause your best friends won't tell you!'

Scurrying around for the magnifying mirror to check my chin! What a bloody nuisance!

By the way, Chickies - the Mel who is coming to visit is not OUR MEL. I sure wish it was OUR MEL! Must check my AirMiles. Mel is an analyst who worked for me ten eyars ago. He has retired on disability, broke up with his boyfriend and is rather at loose ends. I'm doing a waifs and orphans NY Eve dinner with two other guys, Rob and John. They're a handsome bunch but all gay so don't be too envious.

Where the heck is my company? I'm ready! Maybe for every minute they are late, I can shove them out that much earlier! I'm just kidding - Shirleyanne has been my friend since we were 18 and her daughter Andrea is my Goddaughter and a real charmer.

I guess I'll go and dig through the freezer for a large hunk of meat for NY's Eve. Guys like roasts and I can do oven potatoes with it.

Happy Saturday morning chicks,

It's a chilly one on my side of town but the sun is shining away.

I think I'm going to follow Diyana's lead and do some decluttering myself. I like Ruth's phrase of Christmas "dandruff"

DH is busy measuring the floor, I guess that means he's serious about getting some tile to replace in the foyer. We need a new front door too - the one we have is an antique door - a real antique not just an old door but it's warped on the bottom and lets a nice chill in. We don't have many choices down here for home improvement outside of Home Depot and Lowe's so there's not much in the way to pick from. Didn't see much we liked the first time around so I guess we just settle for something just to get it done. The wallpaper we had put up in the kitchen is starting to come down too. Things just don't last anymore Good news is that we will surely keep busy in 2008.

Holy cow, going back to comment and I see that Carla snuck in a post while I was busy blabbering. You sneaky one you Oh Carla - you could have been writing my post right down to the CHIN HAIRS! I was sitting here reading and doing the and I felt one - yes they are coarse, yes you can feel them because you darn well BETTER believe that they are there and you can't see them. Just like she said. I remember sitting on the train going to work one day and checking my makeup in a hand mirror and ARRRRRGGGGHH there were about 3, one inch long (just like she said) under my chin. Why didn't anyone say anything? How long were they there? I tried to rip them out with my bare fingers but couldn't get a good grip so I had to walk to work with my chin tucked down. Fortunately being in I.T. (Information Technology) I always carry tweezers in my purse which are good for getting those tiny bits of paper that jam up the printers. Pluck, pluck. And to those who say it won't happen to them - well... it's a natural course of life as your estrogen starts to diminish and the testosterone is more prevalent. So let's all go pause a minute and go do a mirror check.

Ditto on the other things you said too Carla. What's this about summer tires? Don't they make the all season things up in Canada? I know you are close to the snows of Killamanjaro but really... We got plenty of snow in Chicago and I had all season on my SUV and with blessed holy 4 wheel drive, I made out ok. Anyway - hope you are having a nice weekend. Enjoying a bit of coffee. Some spinning or rebounding (what is that? Chasing a new man to replace the current boyfriend? ) Will you be home to celebrate the new year? Hope you don't have to spend it with Evil SM.

Ceejay - congrats on the good evaluation and the good pay raise. That's unusual as companies are all crying cutback and trimming so I'm glad somebody got a few extra dollars in their wallet. Did you draw the new year to work? That why you have a short weekend? Make the most of it, sometimes it's good to stay home and just hunker down on some projects. I guess if this is a presidential election year that would make it a leap year, wouldn't it? Good thing you said something, I might not have noticed until February 28

Mel, Ruth what's this about Mel visiting Ottawa? Why weren't WE invited? Ok, be that way Have fun together. That's a sweet thought about Harry, Ruth. Sometimes they surprise us, don't they?

Thanks for the wise words Mel. You must have been reading my thoughts too. A good thing to keep in mind going forward. What a sleeze ball Ritchie's dad is. Hope he doesn't take after him. I know you would never allow that Why do families have to be so much drama? Geez louise woman, speaking of drama in the building... glad they didn't burn you down or flood you out. What's the plan for the weekend?

Rennie, I agree that you can work the lungs somewhat. Deep breathing exercises help too. There's something that will help you even more but you will have to do that on your own - the sooner the better When you're ready we will give you all the support in the world

Diyana - what's a NuStep? Sounds interesting. Hope you didn't get 5 inches of snow - with a bad back shovelling is the last thing you need to be doing. Better to stay inside and do the wastebasket toss

Ok, gotta run. DH wants to go look at flooring... Sorry to those I've missed. Will be back later. Enjoy your weekend - come back Madcat - we miss you

New Year's Resolutions

January 1 is not only the start of the New Year, but is when many begin their New Year’s Resolutions. Manage stress. Eat healthier. Exercise more. Spend more time with family. Sticking to your resolutions and making changes can be difficult but not impossible. The American Psychiatric Association (APA) would like to offer tips and other resources to help families and individuals keep their resolutions for a healthy mind and healthy life.

“A new year is a great time to think about the changes we want to make in our lives. Being and staying well is a resolution many people make for the New Year, but those resolutions can lead to frustration when we find we have set unrealistic goals,” said Philip R. Muskin, M.D., Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Columbia University and Chair of the APA Council on Psychosomatic Medicine. “Making a resolution to change one thing that will make us healthier is a priceless gift that only we can give to ourselves.”

Try again: Everyone has made, and broken past resolutions, that does not mean that you won’t succeed this time. Start with a positive approach, including thinking about what has disrupted your good intentions in the past. Don’t discourage yourself with a negative outlook.

Don’t make too many resolutions: Trying to eat better, exercise more, quit smoking, and reduce stress is too much to tackle at once. Pick a realistic, attainable goal with a reasonable time frame.

Choose your own resolution: Make sure this is something that you want to accomplish for yourself and not for friends or family. When you attain the goal they will benefit from your success as well.

Make a plan and write it down: Plan what you’d like to accomplish in three or six months. Achieving small goals over time gives you a sense of accomplishment and motivation to keep going. Writing your goals down is a good way to keep track of your progress.

Involve friends and/or family: They can support your efforts, and can motivate you to keep going. Setting a personal goal is not a “promise” which can never be broken. Don’t paint yourself into a corner by overstating what can be a realistic change you plan to make.

Forgive yourself: If you get off track, don’t think that you failed. Review your plan and make adjustments.

Congratulate yourself: Reward yourself when your intermediate goals or resolutions are met.

The most important point to consider when deciding on your resolutions is to decide if you are truly willing to make the change in your life. Deciding to make the change just to have a resolution will not keep you motivated to attain your goal. Many people fail because they are afraid or don’t fully realize how the goal can benefit their every day lives. When you decide on your resolution, make a plan of action and list the ways it will improve your life.
Remember: When you can see the prize, you are more likely to keep up the fight.

Happy, a rebounder is a mini-trampoline. (The ex was an ordinary bounder, and I'm in no hurry to stick my neck out with a new model.) It seems a rebounder is also something you shouldn't spend too much time bouncing on if you already have a little bitty pain in your lower back from schlepping big tv's around. I took the cat out for a brief walk, bent over to bring him indoors, and my back went into a spasm that has me totally incapacitated and knocking back muscle relaxants. I always suspected exercise wasn't really healthy, now I have proof... Oh well, in a few days it'll be as if it never happened.

If most of the people you work with are around the same age as you, don't worry about the hairs - they can't see them either. There's a reason our eyes go dim as we age!

Mel, you're really getting into the whole resolutions thing. First opting for the high road, now working out a good plan of attack! I'm impressed, and appreciate you doing the ground work for us.

Time for more drugs.
