Thanksgiving comes earlier in Canada than it does in the US, but I'd like to target the American date since I'm going on a cruise that weekend :) I hope some of you will join me!

My weight loss has been slow lately, but I'm going to challenge myself to do better than I have been...so I'll aim for 6lbs per month, which will put me 30lbs lighter by our end date.

Since TG is on a Thursday I'll use Thursday dates, but weigh in whichever day works for you in that week.

I've also fallen victim to a very slow loss period and need to get out of my slump, and I like mixing up challenges with both mid-week and week-end weigh ins. With 20 weeks, I think it is possible that I could get down to the normal BMI range; so I'll shoot for 27 pounds total loss for the challenge.

I want to join this but I have a lot of challenges going on right now. I'll jump in closer to the end of my Lucious by Labor Day challenge, if that's okay!

I'm going to join this one too since I started a challenge in the chics up for a challenge board and this challange lasts about a month longer, this way I won't give up as soon as my other challenge is over. My goal for the first challenge is 215 by 10/31 so I would definitely love to make it to 199 by Thanksgiving, and be in onderland again at last.

I'm in. I am in a couple short term challenges, but this will be great for the long run. When I started losing in January, my goal was to lose 100 pounds by Christmas, but I think I can move that end date up to Thanksgiving, especially if I have a good challenge to keep me going. I have 30 pounds to go, so I think I might be able to do it, or at least get very close. I weigh in on Wednesday, so I'm going to use yesterday as my staring weight for the challenge. I'll just edit my original post on a weekly basis. Thanks for the inspiration. My goal for this challenge is to actually hit my goal weight of 152 pounds by Thanksgiving.

EDITED -Since I decided to hold at about 160 - 162 and am now maintaining, what I really should do is weigh in one more time on the first Wednesday in December to see it I managed to maintain over Thanksgiving.

July 6 - 182.0
July 13 - 180.0 (2 gone / 28 to go) Woo Hoo!
July 20 - 178.0 (4 gone / 26 to go)
July 27 - 176.0 (6 gone / 24 to go - what's up with the exactly even poundage all month?)
Aug 3 - 176.0 (same as last week! 6 gone / 24 to go)
Aug 10 - 172.8 (9.2 down / 20.2 to go)
Aug 17 - 171.6 (10.4 down, 19.6 to go) Not sure I'm going to make my 30 pound goal, but will keep on trying!
Aug 24 - 171.0 (11.0 down, 19 to go)
Aug 31 will be on vacation - hope this helps keep me OP
Sept 7 - 167.6 (Woo Hoo! Lost on vacation! Down 14.4, 15.6 to go) Just about half way through the 30 pounds!
Sept 14 - 165.4 (down 16.6, 13.4 to go)
Sept 21 - 165.4 (down 16.6, 13.4 to go)
Sept 28 - 164.0 ( down 18, 12 to go)
Oct 5 - 162.0 (down 20, 10 to go) but I'm now going to hold at this weight for a while
Oct 12
Oct 19
Oct 26
Nov 2 - 161
Nov 9
Nov 16
Nov 23 - 161.0 I'm going to post next Wednesday, too. Just to document the damage (or - hopefully - the lack thereof) done over Thanksgiving.
Nov 30 162.0 Not so bad!

Good luck to everyone!

this is a great idea angie!! the 4th of july challenge came around just as i was starting out, and it kept me on my toes. hopefully this one will keep me motivated just as that one did. i met that goal, and i really hope i can meet this one. i've set my goal for 225 which is 32.5 lbs away from today's weigh in. that's approx 1.6lbs per week through thanksgiving. good luck to everyone :D

I'm ALWAYS in for a cruise! :D Where are we going, Angie? We need to know which ship to meet you on... ;)

I'm in for the challenge as well... I'll be visiting my family for Thanksgiving and would love to be 194 when I get there. I've got what I'm calling "Cruise Fest Fall 2011" before Thanksgiving though, with trips to Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean; plus a business trip, a couple of weekends away with the hubby, and my parents visiting for a few days next week so hopefully this will help keep me on track though all of that.

I weigh in on Sundays, but I'll do my final weigh in on the day before Thanksgiving, which is when I'm flying home.

updated my thread, but also wanted to post so this gets bumped up.

I am (crazily IMO) putting my goal as Onederland. At my current pace, it's doable, but while I am thrilled at how quickly the Dukan diet has me losing at this point, I don't necessarily trust that rate will continue. But I am going to challenge myself to continue to remain Stuck Like Glue on my plan and see what happens!

linJber -

thanks for the vote of confidence!! I am normally around a 6 lb a month loser, which is not that bad, but with my current plan, it's been more like twice that. So I'm happy but just not sure that can last! lol! I'm going to keep on going and see what happens and if my best case scenario happens, I'll be thrilled. But really, if I am even in spitting distance of 199 and can get to it by the end of the year, I'll be thrilled.

I'm probably not going to come and post every week (also, I weigh-in on Mondays and I don't like to have too many weigh in days :dizzy:), but I'll bookmark this thread and pop back in at Thanksgiving to share my weight. I would like to be 230 by Thanksgiving! I feel like that is entirely doable if I stick to my plan :)

Good morning all - I've been stuck at 182 all week - maybe tomorrow my official weigh-in will be better. There's a reason I only count Wednesday - weighing every day makes me nutty!

I've already been to the gym and have laundry going - if I could just get in a session at the tanning salon, I guess I could audition to be on "Jersey Shore." LOL. I tan without trying - sometimes that's worse than not getting any color at all!

Also got the potted tomatoes and peppers watered. Now to clean the kitchen . . . Such an exciting life! hope everyone has a great day.

I am determined to be to goal by next June, so a few challenges along the way are probably a good idea. I'm totally in. I didn't WI this last Thursday though since I was still on vacation. I will post Thursdays from now on though.I would love to hit 140 by Thanksgiving, but I will consider anything between 140 and 160 to be success (1-2 pounds per week).

Edit on August 25: We're about 1/3 of the way though this thing and I only have 6 pounds to go until I reach the high end of my goal weight range. I have decided to lower the high end to 155!

Since my WI day is Wednesday, I just updated my original post. I'm -2 for the week. Good luck to all of you who are using Thursday for this challenge. I'll look tomorrow for the results.

Good time for a challenge, Angie - looks like you have lots of challengers in here. I'm hoping this really keeps me on track because I'd LOVE to be at my goal by Thanksgiving.

I am down 6 for this week, though quite a bit of that is almost certainly water since I just came off of vacation for a week, during which I was totally off plan and gained 10.6 pounds.

Do you all think this it is too much to lose 25lbs by Thanksgiving? Should I say 160? Wouldn't that be more healthy as well as realistic?

I think 2 lbs a week MAX is healthy. that would be 38 lbs. However, since you are at a smaller weight Id say 1-1.5 lbs a week. so 19-28.5, at that calculation 25 is entirely possible! On the 4th of july challenege I aimed super high knowing that if I made it at least halfway I'd be happy and guess what? I made it a little over halfway! I am 7 lbs away from my 4th of july goal. and 17 from my labor day goal. Will I make it? Who knows. Is it entirely posible? Sure!

Thanks SMSDREAMER I appreciate your input. And since 150 was my goal for last year and I only got to 165 which was my lowest in Sept 2010. I would really like to achieve it this year :)

I think the fact that this is a long time for a challenge is good, as it allows us to put a pretty high goal number (meaning in terms of amount lost, not weight! lol!) I am doing some shorter challenges in the meantime, so those will be stepping stones along the way and if I can meet those, I'll be on track for meeting my Thanksgiving goal too.

But the bottom line is that if we make significant progress, we're all "winners" (since it's not a competition and EVERYONE can win!)

Rennie I think 150 is totally doable. You can be healthy and lose 25lbs in the time frame of the challenge. Since you're so close, it might a little harder, but that can be motivating. :)

linJber
07-15-2011, 11:23 AM
I think anything in the area of 2 pounds a week is doable and can be healthy. Just stay on your set program for eating, exercise, and water. As long as you are doing all that in a healthy way, your weight loss is healthy.

Being accountable to a group will help you stay OP for each day, each week. That's what leads to success.

JamieSue! Holy COW!!!! over 9 lbs in a week?!?! May I ask what your doing to get these results? Congrats!

Thanks Mango but I can't take all the credit. I had been retaining water pretty badly puffy fingers and swollen feet, ankles & calves for at least two weeks. So...a portion of the loss is just water. Other than that, I've been exercising everyday and keep my net calories AT LEAST -1,000, though some days it's been over -1,500/1,600. I'm sure to eat least 1,300 cals but not more than 1,700 /day. I've never lost that much in a week before though so I REALLY do think it's mostly water. ;)

Lin, You have very impressive weight loss stats yourself. Especially in light of that cruel joke mother nature pulled on women by not allowing you to lose weight as fast as us men can.

Since my official WI is on Wednesday, I may be a day ahead of most of you who are using Thursday because Thanksgiving is on Thursday. Anyway, I updated my original post - down 2 pounds for the week, so that's 26 more to go to meet the challenge and my personal goal of 152 pounds. Hope everyone else has a great day and a good weigh in tomorrow (or whatever day is yours.)

I'm off to do some yard work and water my tomatoes and peppers that are in pots before it gets scorching hot again. We expect 94 today. Then off to the beach for an evening of local bands and to watch the sunset.

Soo...I'm up again this week to 212. Hopefully I'll have a nice little 5-10lb whoosh to catch me up by next Wednesday :lol3:

Great work for those of you who lost (especially Allison!!)...maybe I should put the cruise up as a reward for our winner. Okay, if I win the lottery between now and then, that's the plan. ;)

Don't get discouraged, Angie. I don't know how hot it's been in Toronto, but I'm not too far away across Lake Erie, and it has been horrible here. I think the heat and humidity have a little bit of influence on how I lose. Maybe it's just that. And I'm betting you see a big loss in the next couple weeks. The great thing about this is the weeks where you have that surprisingly big loss you never expected. I have a feeling yours is coming.

I've been having a no loss week so far - not sure why, because I have remained completely on plan. The only change is that I may be eating slightly less (eliminating a snack) but I eat when I'm hungry so it's not a conscious thing. Maybe just less hungry due to the heat?

I'm hoping I get some sort of whoosh going by my Sunday WI day.

down 4.7 pounds this week (i'm assuming a good chunk of water finally dropped off after my gain from redlobster-fest) so i'm down a total of 4 pounds since the start, trying to do about 1.6 - 2.0lbs per week to hit my goal... 28.5 to go!

Wyllobelle - I think you can meet this challenge. I started at 252 and have been losing an average of 2.5 pounds a week overall since January 13th. It seems to be slowing down a bit now, but I'm smaller now, too. Stay focused and let your steady losses be what keeps you on plan. You are a lot younger than I am, so you have that in your favor. I'm sure you can maintain at least 2 pounds a week for a long while.

Lin -- Yes, it's been super hot here in Toronto too, and I do find that makes me retain water. Last week I ate out about 3/4 of my meals, so lots of sodium. Hoping for some good news by this Thursday.

Rennie -- Thank you! Yes, I will work through this. I'm so grateful for good friends like you to support me :)

FutureThoughts - Thanks :)

Trish -- Good job on your 1.4 thsi week!

Larry -- You're doing great, if you keep that up you'll hit your goal for sure!

SevenCallMeMom -- Awesome job on your 2lbs

SMSDreamer -- Great job on your loss!

AprilSnow -- Hang in there! Keep working your plan and you'll see a loss soon. Oh, I see your update, great work!!!

Roxy -- You are rocking it! Good job :)

Mango -- Nice work on your 4lbs!!!

STar -- I'm with you...stick with it, we'll work it out.

Angie we have each other thank goodness. I am totally grateful to you for getting me through last year, you started mentally preparing me in October because your Thanksgiving comes earlier. Lin - Thanks for the support and Feedback. I appreciate it! I am tracking my food at Livestrong.com and I have it set to 2 lbs a week, so I thought that was a good starting place. I may lose more at first (That's the trend, right?) But I figured 2 a week is a good average.

your success is inspiring!

i think angie set up dates on her first post of thursdays, because goal date is thanksgiving in the US (4th thursday in november), but challenges such as these are uber flexible. if you've got a regular weigh-in, you can shift the dates forward or back to accommodate.

good luck!

Great job so far everyone! Looks like there were A LOT of losers this week!

Angie -- Awww...thanks!!! And right back atcha!

Wyobelle -- Ditto what Mandy said. My "official" WI day is Friday so that's when I'll post. But I do WI daily so I'll probably finish the challenge out with a Thursday WI. (NO WAY am I weighing in the morning after Turkey Day!) :p Oh yea, and ditto Lin too. Losing 2lbs/week is a completely realistic goal.

if you go back through the first page or two of posts, you'll see that people set up a post like this http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/3926255-post23.html and update our weight on it each week to keep track over time, along with posting a new post.

My standard WI day is Sunday so that's the day I'm putting in but I'll WI on Thanksgiving day to for a final weight for this challenge.

I weigh in on Wednesday, but will post on Thanksgiving as a final weight. VERY EARLY in the morning on Thanksgiving. WAY, WAY before anything hits my lips! And since my WI day is Wednesday, I have 5 whole days to get that turkey off my butt!

Actually, I spend Thanksgiving at my ex- SIL's house - with my whole ex in-laws! I have no family in the town where I now live. DD usually comes home for Thanksgiving. (She is in NC.) Her dad's sister has dinner and invites DD. So they won't be taking her away from me for the whole day, I get invited, too! Ex-husband, his wife, grandpa, aunts, etc, and ME. I love it, actually. And since I don't see them very often, it's gonna be GREAT watching their reactions! LOL. This challenge has pushed me to move my goal up to Thanksgiving. I hope to have lost 100 pounds by then. Nothing is going to throw me off this course - at least for vey long!

Tomorrow is WI day - hope for the best - I spent today with friends in Cleveland at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We had a great day. Packed lunch and tailgated, but had supper out. I ordered a great romaine / pear / blue cheese / balsamic vinaigrette salad with pecans, but there were several sides and appetizers ordered to share. Spinach and artichoke dip was to die for, but I only had a little. Very salty. Yesterday and today I was at 75 pounds lost - hope I can change my ticker in the AM!

Goodnight all.

OK - WI was good - down 2 for the week, so that's 6 so far, 24 more to go by Thanksgiving. Hope everyone else is doing ok with this one. This is my big challenge now since I unofficially decided I can meet my Christmas goal by Thanksgiving. We'll see how it goes with less than 25 to lose. It's going to slow down, I know.

Thanks, April Snow! We are the same height and staring weights were close, too. And it looks like you're losing at about the same pace as I am, too. Or at least the pace I was at a while ago. I just know it will get harder as the excess gets less, so I'm prepared for it! I really don't want to have to buy winter clothes twice this year.

When I started losing, I got by with ill-fitting winter clothes until I lost over 25 pounds and then I took my jeans and nice slacks in - twice!. And I only bought a few things for summer. Several nice tee's, but not too many shorts and just one pair of jeans. I hate the thought of having to buy more than one set of the more expensive winter stuff.

But . . . I know I can get by with just 2 pairs of jeans (I work in jeans or shorts) and can get them at thrift stores or lower priced dept stores. Sweaters will be OK - there is a much larger range of pounds where they'll fit. And I'm never one to like really heavy coats, so I can probably get by with just a fleece jacket for most things in the winter. I kept my favorite old fleece jacket because I figured I could put it over anything I wear this coming winter if I have to for warmth. I don't think you can freeze to death going from the house to the car or the car to the grocery store. Shoveling snow is a different story, so if I have to wear the old one over the new one, I'm OK with that.

I know the world won't end and my spirits won't be crushed if I don't meet my new moved up Thanksgiving goal, (or even if I fall short of my original Christmas goal) but winter clothes shopping would be so much easier. It's bad enough that you have to replace everything but your socks several times during this process! Thanks for the encouraging words.

Lin

April Snow

Lin -

So exciting to think about all the fun new clothes you'll be able to get when you get to goal. And just because you may not buy them at the beginning of the winter doesn't mean you won't be able to get your winter wardrobe a little bit later but still this season. (but you will probably get there for your goal on time anyway!!)

As for me, I'm amazed at the pace I'm losing and totally credit the Dukan Diet for that - I have NEVER lost this quickly and this consistently before. And even though it's a very restrictive low carb/low fat plan, I find it easier to stick with than anything else I've ever tried. Go figure! lol!

Great Job, Lin!! Great job eating out, too. Your salad sounded delicious! And I think taking a taste or two of things is actually pretty smart. I mean, you came away thinking it was super salty - which for me, helps me remember that I don't want it in my body.

Woot for a good WI!

April Snow - I actually bought a bunch of sweaters on total clearance in February that were several sizes smaller than what I was wearing. Six crew and/or V-necks with small ribbed cables from K-Mart for about $3 each, two or 3 Old Navy hoodies that I loved in the bigger size for $10 each, and two Liz Clairborn (did I spell that correctly) from Penney's that I needed to get through spring, but they're ribbed and pull in nicely and will be good next winter, too. It's the coats and jeans that are so costly. And I want the jeans to fit nicely now. I wear sweatshirts with our company logo to work and I think I can alter the ones I just bought last fall. I took my favorite concert tee-shirt apart and made it fit, so I think I can do it with the sweatshirts, too. Then I can shop on "Black Friday" and wait for other clearance sales to get more stuff. And I kept the big Old Navy hoodie sweaters - they are now stylishly oversized look kind of neat over jeans.

Wyllow - thanks for the encouragement - and the salad was really good. I love salad with pears and bleu cheese. Who would even think that would be a good combination? And you're exactly right about the salty taste to the dip - a good reminder that my tastes really are changing.

Welcome Sarabrooke!

LinJ - our goal for this challenge is close, I am worried about the weightloss slowing down too...but where ever I end up as long as I am making progress I will be THRILLED. Sometimes I find some nice jeans at a local consignment store. I am going to have to dress business casual starting at the end of Aug. Right now I have 3 or 4 pairs of slacks I can wear and when I need to replace them I plan on getting 2 or 3 pairs of slacks and 7 or 8 tops. It seems to take atleast 20lbs for me to change pant sizes, so I will get a few months out of them.

SweetTreat - I update my original post and then cut and paste the section above.

I am MAKING myself stop though. Today I got up, weighed in, went for my walk, and then did nothing but post process photos (I'm a photographer). AHHHHH. Okay, back for personals! I've never had so many losers for friends... :D;) Good job folks.

Rennie - You and I will have to have each others backs for our respective Thanksgivings this year. I'll actually be celebrating both as my cruise is a Thanksgiving Cruise (leaves the Sunday after Thanksgiving). That gain will be gone by next week...I think there is a lot of sodium in that weight.

Kiki -- Weigh in on whatever day works for you. I set up the dates for Thursdays because of the Thanksgiving theme originally, but people all have their own dates so aside from our last weigh in, it doesn't really matter.

Lin -- Your TG with the ex-inlaws sounds so nice! That's fantastic that you can all get along so well. That salad you had in Cleveland sounded fantastic by the way. Congratulations on your 2lbs for the week, that is very good. I'm starting to think about some fall/winter clothes in smaller sizes too. I got a great deal today on oxford type shirts for $12, so I bought one in pink and one in blue. I should have got white and grey too, then I'd basically be set for work, different shirt for each day. :)

Sarabrooke -- Welcome to the challenge!

Sweettreat -- Nice job on the 3lbs this week, great way to start off the challenge.

Envelope -- 4lbs this week is awesome, good job!

FutureThoughts -- Good job managing this week, I know you had some extremes so it's great that it didn't end up with you way over last week. Thanks for the encouragement, I'm feeling good about the way I'm eating right now and want to stay focused. :)

Mandy -- Congrats on your 1.7 this week!

SMSdreamer - 1.2 is great, you'll have some bigger week and some smaller weeks. I think 1.2 is quite respectable. :)

Wyllowbelle -- Nice job, over 4lbs in your first week, fantastic!

Sevencallmemom -- You too, you are rocking this challenge! Congratulations on a great week.

Where are you sailing from, Angie? I've got several of my favorite clients leaving from New Orleans on Voyager of the Seas that same day. They really are a fun group, it would be great if you got to sail with them. :D

BTW... It is totally possible to go on a cruise and not gain (or... gasp... even lose a few pounds!). Just don't weigh yourself the day you get home, I usually give it a few days back on plan because you WILL be retaining water when you get home.

Well, I'm UP 0.9 for this week. I definitely struggled but not with staying OP -whew! Between camping and TOM water retention - I just couldn't swing a loss. I was DEFINITELY OP though and am certain of a continuing LONG-TERM downtrend. The good news...I'm 33% of the way to my goal weight and only 20% through the time frame so that means I'm WAY ahead of the game! :D

It's gotta be either Glory or Valor... they both sail from Miami on Sundays.

Staying away from the bread has definitely helped me when we cruise. I also try to use the stairs as often as possible and hit the gym. I once lost 2 pounds on a 15 night cruise. :D

My company's intranet posts daily inspirational quotes...and today's was so fabulous, I just had to share! In fact, it's so good, I added it to my signature.

I am not sure what my upcoming August 4th reading will look like. I had a huge water gain. On July 28th I weighed 220 on august 1st I weighed 245 a 25 pound gain and on August 2, today I weigh 230 a 15 pound drop from yesterday and from that 25 pound gain.

My starting weight was 226 and my goal is to lose 2 pounds a week which would equal 42 pounds. This makes my Thanksgiving goal weight at 184 pounds

I'm on my way out of town this morning... I've got a couple of days of classes for work in Chicago, and then I'm going to spend a few days with my family since they live in the area. Staying 100% OP probably isn't realistic under the circumstances, but I'm going to work really hard at staying 90% to 95%.

Since I'm going to be out of town on Sunday, I weighed in this morning and am down another pound since my last weigh-in. :carrot:

SevenCAllmeMOm -- Nice weigh in! Good job on your 4.8 !!

Well, I'm down 0.4 this week. It's a lackluster ending since I couldn't manage to shed what I gained last week. BUT - I'm 35% of the way to my goal weight and 25% of the way through this challenge. So far so good when you look at the long term!

envelope -- GREAT attitude. If we stick to our plans, the weight WILL come off!

FutureThoughts -- :woohoo: Like you, the challenges help me stay on track as well. For some reason though, the weight just isn't moving much the last two weeks. I'm staying strong though and have been perfectly on plan for...gosh...for a long time so I KNOW the weight will move again soon. :)

Samadhi -- Awesome job this week! Good luck next week with your travelling. You CAN do it!

SweetTreat -- Good job. Slow and steady wins the race!

1oftheLuvs -- Congrats on being a pound down this week! I think 90-95% OP is a good goal to reach for. GOOD LUCK!

Trish -- Another awesome week for you! Woo hoo!!

Roxy -- YAHOO!! Great week girly!

Kiki -- Nice loss this week! The water quote was a powerful one for me too!

Any chance your scale needs new batteries? Those are some crazy swings with numbers higher than I've ever seen before. Just seems like there's something even squirrelier (don't think that's a word) than water retention going on there...unless your primary food is a salt lick! ;)

BTW - the quote in your siggy in HILARIOUS!

My scale is mechanical so no batteries and my 25 pound gain was verified on the doctor's scale. One week later the same doctors scale showed a 26 pound loss for the week. Welcome to my roller coaster ride. Have a seat and buckle up.

I had a huge water gain. On July 28th I weighed 220 on august 1st I weighed 245 a 25 pound gain and on August 8, today I weigh 219 a 26 pound drop in one week. My scale does not use batteries and my doctor's scale confirmed my readings. I visited the doctor on August 1 because of the gain and had a followup appointment today August 8th. Yes I really did gain 25 pounds and lose 26 pounds in a week and a half. I was retaining water like crazy and the doctor is still doing testing to determine why. My glasses are clean.

My goal is to lose 2 pounds a week which would equal 42 pounds. This makes my Thanksgiving goal weight at 184 pounds

You guys ROCK! Me, I'm exactly the same. holding pattern. I am frustrated a little now because, well, I'm doing everything and it isn't wanting to budge. I DID survive TOM between WI's so right on. Here's hoping for a drop next week. (The last time I tried Weight Loss I did Atkins and the weight FELL off. This time, I'm counting calories and working out 2 times a day and it's.. s-l-o-w. SLOW! *grumble* I know the whole muscle versus fat thing but I thought I'd have to battle that a little later in the game. I'm filing this frustration away under "If 5 lbs takes so much to lose, is it REALLY worth that __________?") I'd REALLY like to make my goal for Thanksgiving. Now I'm wondering if 2 lbs a week was just too ambitious. So I'm focusing on the second part - learning my body - too. I'm still keeping the goal, though. Maybe, just maybe, the woosh fairy will come kiss me in my sleep!

Roxy -- Sorry about having to report a gain. You are a rock start though and I know you'll recover quickly! Good luck in the coming week!

Mandy -- Nice job this week Mandy. I'm impressed with how consistent your losses have been even with the extended down time due to your injury. I can only imagine how amazing these numbers will be once you're back to 100%.

Larry -- Whoooweee! I guess that water gain finally left and took a few friends with it, huh? NICE JOB! And reaching 100lbs lost too!?!? FANTASTIC!!

Not much time for personals tonight. My official weigh in is .2 below last week, but I'm pretty satisfied because 1) I lost 4 lbs last week, which is more than I lost in the month prior...and 2) I'm retaining a whole bunch of water right now...so I can be patient and wait for my whoosh :)

Hope everyone had a great week, I will catch up with reading tomorrow

Down 6lbs this week to 252.2. This is a NEW LOW for me and I've also crossed the 40lbs lost threshold!

Update: I'm 50% of the way to my goal and only 30% of the way through this challenge. So far so good...

:D

Star -- Grrr...is right. I had two WIs where the scale didn't budget but I must have scared it 'cause those numbers are on the run now. Yours will catch back up with you too!

Angie -- Nice job lil' missy with the cutest haircut EVER! ;)

Way to go everyone! You are all doing so well. :carrot:

I'm down 1.5 since I left on my trip last week, which I am really happy with... I certainly wasn't perfect while I was gone by any stretch, but apparently I was good enough to show a loss on the scale this morning. :D

April Snow
08-14-2011, 05:44 PM
congrats to all the great progress all!!

I'm down 1.6 for the week. I can't believe that I am even thinking "that's kind of low" but it's lower than I have been averaging. However, I'm good with it because I ramped up the activity the past 3 days and I think that I am carrying some water weight, if my sore muscles mean anything! So I'm pleased to see a decent loss and hope that at some point, there might be an extra whoosh. But mostly, I'm loving the exercise - I was walking about 30 minutes a day per my plan, but not really pushing myself harder, and I forgot how great it feels to push myself a bit more!

JamiSue3916
08-14-2011, 06:15 PM
1oftheLuvs -- GREAT JOB! ANY loss following a vacation is welcome, I'm sure!

April -- Sore muscles definitely mean something and it's all good. Water retention and fat replace are two of the most important. And both of those almost always mean a semi-stalled scale but also result in lost inches! Keep it up!

SweetTreat80

Larry - fantastic! ! ! Glad the water weight is gone. I can't even imagine how I'd flip out if I saw the gain you did! Any test results that you're willing to share as to what happened? Congratulations on the 100 pound mini goal. I'd call it a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT, however. I'm really excited for you to have reached this goal. Great job.

Lin

Lin I will be glad to share what happened as soon as I know. The doctor has another test to do but so far the doctor is still convinced that it was the combination of too much sodium, too much water and driving from New York to Florida. I did not have time for walking and the doctor thinks that the sudden high weight gain was related in part to Vasovagal response.

Dear Woosh Fairy,

I am not a patient person. I am trying to be patient. I look at this as an exercise in cultivating patience. That would be fine, but I'm already exercising ALL the freaking TIME already, so having one more thing to exercise is just... upsetting me.

WI is on Wednesday. But based on the 572 times I've already weighed myself during the last week, I'm not holding my breath. Unless it means I might drop a few pounds. Then, right on. I'm willing to try it.

Love,

-Kiki

WI is also tomorrow for me, Kiki. I'm stuck, too.

But don't hold your breath - push as much out as you can so you're lighter. And wash and dry your hair, then shave your legs. Heck - shave your body. Maybe exfoliate. Pluck eyebrows. Trim fingernails and toenails. ANYTHING to get rid of excess weight. I'm going to have to try it - not sure what I'll do the next week to eliminate baggage, but I might feel better this week!

Have a great day, everyone!

Lin

Larry -- Okay so I had to google Vasovagal 'cause I no idea what it was. And frankly, I still don't know. :) I just hope it's not something serious and that you're doing well now.

Lulu -- I think 30 lbs is agressive but I'm a fan of agressive goals. So welcome and best of luck!

Wyllowbelle -- Okay, your letter to the whoosh fairy cracked me up! I'm rooting for your whoosh too now! ;) Good luck tomorrow!

Lin -- LOL...pluck eyebrows and trim toenails! You girls on on it with the funnies! Good luck tomorrow!

Well, I didn't take any of my own weight shedding advice, but I'm down 1.2 to 171.6 for the week. Like you, April Snow, I'm going slower than I had been. I haven't upped my activity, though - have been working out almost every day for months. Slow and steady wins the race . . .

Lin

Wyllowbelle
08-17-2011, 12:23 PM
no movement. well - actually it's +.2

***PREPARE FOR WANK***

I'm not quite sure what else I can do. in the past month I have started walking 3 miles a day, alternating my "race walk 30 seconds, recover walk 30 seconds" walking with just my normal hilly terain 3.5 miles per hour walking. I do NIA (low impact aerobics) on the mellow walking days. I do Pilates and strength training (weights - 5lb dumbells for 15 - 20 minutes) on the Racewalking days. I work out 6 days a week. And even on the 7th, I tend to do Yoga.

I log my calories on livestrong and net between 900 - 1300 (after exercise - I'm actually eating between 1500 - 2000 daily). I drink 2.5 - 3 L of water a day. I juice my breakfast and my lunch so that I'm getting at least 50% of my intake from plants. I eat dinner (the only meat I have all day) and sometimes a few snacks (greek yogurt, cottage cheese, nuts, rarely whole grains) as solid food because I'm working out so much.

I am frustrated.

I think I'll take measurements. I KNOW there are changes happening. I just didn't expect to plateau the SECOND week of doing this. My friend Heather, who's been at this journey for at least 8 months, has dropped 45 lbs in 6 months. She told me she doesn't drop for 7 - 8 weeks at a time, then it's this huge WOOOSH. I'm not sure if I can take that, mentally. The common factor is that we both work out A LOT. so the muscle for fat thing could be happening. But man. It sucks. I'm this close to an out and out tantrum. :tantrum:

April -- LOL! Too funny!

Lin -- Still a respectable loss this week. Great job Lin!!

Wyllowbelle -- This journey is tough at times and our self talk almost always makes it harder. There are very few times where you want to live in a "bubble" but I'm begining to realize that weight loss is definitely one of those times. So many external influences alter our perspective. (i.e., how someone else is doing, whether or not others are noticing, etc.) that it sets up our expectations and we can sometimes fall short. (And trust me, I do that too...ALL the time.) Just keep doing what you're doing. Ultimately, I think most of us truly just want to be healty and you are...you're living a healthy life every day and the weight just has to catch up, which it always does.

Wyllowbelle—I’m so sorry that you are struggling. It’s good to have a weightloss/workout buddy but try not to compare yourself (easier said than done). We all walk this path differently. Every work out, every good choice is another step closer to your end-goal regardless of what the scale says. Measuring is helpful. Or try on a new goal outfit to see how much closer you are. Whatever you do, DON’T BINGE.

Hope everyone has had a great week.

Willowbelle - Any loss is a good loss...including measurement losses. I am getting ready to find a tape measurer (the kids always move them and do not put them back where they belong) and see what kind of loss I have from the tape measurer since the scale has decided to hold onto the 167 -168s for a while for me.

where are you in your cycle? not that weight loss is that straight forward anyway, but that would be a simple explanation of why they scale isn't moving at the moment.

I am down 1.4 this week. I was hoping for more since I was up last week. However, I have to remember that my body is adjusting to some big changes. I am just now hitting 2 weeks since the doc took me off of my diabetes medication. The fact that I no longer need that is a huge marker of the success of my journey. I am 3 weeks into P90X, which is a huge change in my workout schedule. I am also coming down from a serious sodium overdose from Tuesday (almost 3,500mg - smoked porkchops). So all in all, I am happy and have 0 complaints.

I think that sometimes when you hit a new low, your body freaks out a bit and starts trying to get back to where it was. A LOT of people seem to have this kind of up and down pattern. But hang in there, I know you will break through and get back that low and beyond!

Wyllowbelle
08-18-2011, 11:35 AM
Hey LooK! WI is on Thursday not Wednesday.

Aaaaaand.... I'm down a lb (and 1.2 from yesterday).

I did a naked victory lap around the bathroom this morning. (My folks have a HUGE bathroom. like I've had apartments smaller than this ridiculous thing). So I'll take it. It's just NICE to see numbers move. I know it's a fickle evil machine, but it's a drop. and even if it goes up, it usually returns to this point and drops lower. THIS gets a dancing Carrot, my friends. :carrot:

PS It's kind of sick and wrong how -1 little number can make such a difference in my mood. I'm working on perspective... really I am. I'm not sure I'll be dropping enough weight to meet my challenge goal, but I'm keeping it the same to remember the other half of that goal was to "learn my body." That means having real expectations about how this journey will look.

Thanks for the Love and the Support. You kept me saner than you realize!

-Kiki

It's been a rough week. First off - super stressful at work (since last week actually). Plus I started the challenge at my gym which as been physically exhausting. AND TTOM is just hours away. Due to the combination of these annoyances...the scale has been finicky...testing my patience. :dizzy: I full expect a gain for the week when I WI tomorrow but I've come to the realization that I am truly not stressing about it. I have been PERFECTLY OP for weeks upon weeks now and though I've had just as many ups as downs in the last month - I've continued to stay OP. I even realized this morning that going to the gym at 5:30am is just something I do now. When that alarm used to go off, it was a battle. I could easily convince myself not to go. But now, it's really not even a consideration. I might let myself stay in bed longer but I just ask myself...Can I be a little late to work today? I don't even consider skipping the gym! That's amazing..regardless of what that pesky scale says. :p

April -- You are SO right! Thanks!

Wyllowbelle -- Congrats! Here's hoping we all get a naked victory lap around our bathrooms!! ;)

Rennie -- Way to finish the week strong my friend! :carrot: I feel so much better this evening knowing that I don't have to go to work tomorrow. I have been under more stress this week than I realized. Definitely not stressing tomorrow. I am SO good with ALL the decisions I'm making right now. What more could I ask for? Thanks for always being such a great friend and an amazing supporter. I'm a lucky girl!

Star -- Excellent week! WTG!

BlueCat -- AMAZING job! It's tough to manage our results with our expectations sometimes (trust me...I know) but you DID have a great week and will have many more to come! ;)

Larry -- Nice job! So glad to see that the crazy water gains have stayed away this week. Whew!

Rashomon -- WTG! :D

you are coming off a week where you lost 4 pounds! (and not even a full week) That is HUGE, esp. when you aren't that big - that was over 2.25% of your body weight. Many people have a great first week and then don't lose anything at all the second week, so the fact that you lost another 2.5 lbs is incredible. You have lost 6.5 lbs in 2 weeks -give yourself some credit here!!! lol! You rock!

congrats on the losses Larry and Samadhi.

And congrats for STAYING ON PLAN, Jami! the fluctuations are so frustrating but you are changing your life, and that is happening regardless of what the scale says.

AprilSnow - Aweee, thanks so much AprilSnow! You are so sweet! I guess I lost sight of the big picture. Just saw that I didn't lose much for Dukan's Attack Phase, that I've seen folks posting losing big numbers...

How do you cope with no starch on Dukan?

JamiSue - That is so sweet of you! I guess I'm just impatient for the stupid weight to be gone! I commend you for making to the gym at 5:30 a.m.!! Wow!

Wyllowbelle - That was so cute! Naked victory lap around the bathroom! I wish I had a bathroom I can turn around in! LOL :D

I just hope I survive this weekend. As I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that dieting on weekend is the hardest part...

Grrr...up 2.9 this week to 255.1. It's definitely been a rough week for me but I know it's going to start turning around soon. Lot's of stress, new and VERY tough workout challenge at my gym, plus TOM approaching equals lack of sleep and LOTS of water retention. Took today off though and am already starting to feel a bit more normal.

Samadhi -- Nice job this week. You are doing this!

April Snow -- Thanks for the positive words and encouragement!

BlueCat -- You are very welcome and I meant every word. Keep up the good work and you'll reach whatever goal you set for yourself!

I was up 1.4 last week, but this week I'm down 4.2 -- so I'm pretty happy with that. I've lost about 7lbs so far through this challenge...not quite the pace I had hoped for, but I'll take it since it's going in the right direction overall.

Okay -- catching up on weigh ins since last Thursday...

Larry -- I just saw you hit your 100lb milestone, that is amazing! Congratulations on all the effort I know that you had to put into that. :hat:

Samadhi -- You're doing so well, 2.2 is a great week, adn you are down 11 lbs so far so I think you are on track to hit your goal and possibly even surpass it!

LBC -- I'm not doing Dukan, but I do follow a plan that is low carb...once I got into it a bit I found I don't really miss the carbs all that much. After a while you collect a bunch of new favourite recipes and you can have wonderful flavourful food without the wheat/potatoes etc. If you are looking for some meal ideas just ask, there are lots of different low carb plans and someone is bound to mention some that will appeal to your taste buds.

Jami -- Sorry you showed a gain last week, but I'm confident this is a temporary stop in your journey. There is no way you can eat as well as you have been and exercise as much as you have been and not see a payoff -- it's just taking longer than expected. How about water, are you getting lots of fluids?

AprilSnow -- Great job on the 3.2 this week!

Sickof300 -- Welcome to the challenge!! :welcome:

MT Linda -- :welcome: to you too!!

ShoeCrazy -- Congratulations on a great week... 2.2 is awesome!

Kismet89 -- Thanks for joining in! :welcome:

Envelope -- Wow, awesome week for you!!! You've passed your own halfway mark :) I like the way you track what's left.

Sweettreat -- You lost, so that's something to celebrate :) You could have stayed the same, you could have gained, but you worked it and you lost some. Next week will probably be bigger, not to worry.
