Happy March everyone! Here's another month and another chance to make some goals and challenge ourselves to keep moving forward in the process of weightloss.

The rules of this thread are simple. We are here to provide each other some accountability along the path to weight loss. So, you just set your weight loss related goal(s) and it gets added to a goal list. When you reach your goal, it gets turned Red. We have a sister thread for exercise related goals: February Exercise Challenge. All exercise related goals can be posted there. We love to hear about your success, as well as your challenges throughout the month. We're here to support and encourage each other to be our best. So, let's get started!

Ms P, thanks SO much for doing this thread again. I know it's really time consuming for you, but it's such a help to so many of us. When I've been around a little longer I'll be happy to help out with it.

I'm definitely in for March. I'll weigh on March 1 to get a start weight, and will set a goal weight then.

Hi, I'd love to join in this. I've really hit crunch time just now, so the more challenges for motivation the better.

My aim is to lose 5kg in March, it's a high goal, but I've still got a lot to lose and am planning on really working hard this month.

Starting at 89KG 196.2lb Target is 84KG 185.1lb

My non-weight related goal is to be successful in reaching week 7 of c25k by the end of March, and therefore be jogging 25mins non stop (which right now sounds far harder than losing 5kg does!)

Thanks for the challenge, and good luck to all :)

I came up a little short for February's goal, but I'm looking forward to this new month's challenge. My goal for March will be to reach 240 lbs. Today, I'm sitting at 249.4 lbs, but my official start weight will be determined at tomorrow morning's WI. As it stands now, that means 9.4 lbs for the month...I will update in the morning!

Hi!! I'd love to join in here.
I'm 147 now, but by the end of March I would LOVE to see 139.999 lol. I know it will be tough, but I'm going to try my absolute hardest to get there.

Good luck everyone!! Believe in yourselves!! You are the only thing that can stop you.

Let's see . . .
My goals for March are:
1) Lose 10 lbs from tomorrow's weigh-in
2) Fit into the dress I bought to see Les Miserables in at the end of the month
3) Finish c25k in the second week of March, then increase running speed by a half mile/hour.

I'm in!!! I need something to keep me motivated! I'd like to be 153 by the end of March. I think 5 lbs down is a reasonable goal :) Ultimate goal would be 149 but I'm not so sure that's realistic. It would be a nice birthday present to myself though! lol :)

*sigh* February was kind of a bust. =/

I mostly maintained my weight. Well, bounced is a more correct description. Constantly up and down between 169 and 166. But at least I didn't gain!

My March goal is 165 lbs. I may lower this after I see what my weight is following TOM, which should be here any day.

Ophelia - yay!! The loss is finally catching up!! I'm really excited for you. :)

My official starting weight as of this morning is 253.1 lbs., and my goal this month is to weigh less than my husband  . I used to weigh less than him, but a few years ago he dropped about 30 pounds just by cutting out regular soda. Last night I made him get on the scale, and he was at 243.2, so I'll make my goal 243.1 for this month to shoot for an even 10 lb. loss.

Start weight is 253.1 lbs, goal weight for March is 243.1 lbs.

Hello everyone! My goal is 180 for this month. I weighed in this morning and I am at 188 so 8lbs for this month. I started out at 200 Jan 1st so it is coming off slowly. When I lost my first 10, I bought a new nail buffer and nail polish. When I get to 180, I am getting my hair highlighted which it has been forever since I treated myself to something like that.

This is my first challenge, and I'm really excited! :D My 18th birthday is at the end of March, so I'm going to make this a BIG goal. It will probably seem unreasonable to most of you, but I'm giving it a shot regardless. I'm cutting out a lot of excess calories, and drinking plenty of water (usually all I ever drink is Diet Coke) and the weight typically comes off fast for me in the beginning, so here is my March goal...

Hey everyone :)

Im really struggling with finding balance. It's hard for me to stay on plan when im not totally consumed by exercising and eating. (and i cant be consumed like that when i have a 2 mth old ) anyway.. going grocery shopping today.. so at least having the right healthy options in my house will help!
Making some hummus today. i love that stuff.. and its so easy to make.. although my bf gets a little upset when i go too crazy with the garlic...hahaha

Happy March. I got below 150 for the last few days of Feb., but on March 1st I was 150.4, so that's my starting number. Bummer. My goal will be to get to 145 (It seems like that's the long term goal I haven't and can't seem to reach).

This is going to be a crazy month for me, with Mardi Gras that takes place in my neighborhood this Saturday (utter debauchery), and another big event later in the month with lots of eating and drinking and playing, so I'm going to have to work extra hard to stay on track.

I had the flu over the weekend and am not quite right yet--achy and headaches, just blah, so exercise has been difficult.

MsP: I will work on getting the updates done on the list tonight! Thanks for getting the ling list done!

Well into another OP day. It helps to have this day to plan and get stuff done around the house so I can be more successful the rest of the week.

dcapulet, ophelia, fauxtini - I am planning to start C25K this month as well. For some reason I thought my gym had an indoor track and so I was planning to do it there, but no track - so I guess it's going to need to be outside or on the treadmill. I'd prefer outside, but I kind of don't feel safe walking/running alone in the dark and evening is the only time of day I have available. I guess that means I'll need to start on the treadmill, where the svelte gym goers will be able to see all my jiggling and huffing :o.

So... my weight was down a little more yesterday morning, my normal weigh-in day... and the scale put me right at my first real milestone: 10% body weight lost! So watch out 20% - my sights are set on you next!

Ms Perception

Well, I went back up 0.8 to 247.6 this morning. I didn't go over calories, and not too far over on sodium. If anything, I ate too few calories, which I suppose could be the culprit just as easily. Also, I worked out and was a couple glasses short on my water last night. Hopefully, the scale will show a loss again by tomorrow.

I would love to join in together, because I know if I'm going to be trying running, I will need all the focus I can muster to keep at it, haha. I'm going to try getting a good pair of shoes some time this month for it...are any of you getting specific ones, and - if so - do you have any recommendations? I never knew there were so many types of walking/jogging/running shoes until I started some research on it. I'll have to see if I can find an actual store who can help determine my gait, I guess...? Have any of you had experience with this, or are you just going to wing it?

My weight loss goal is to loss 9lbs in March.

opheliaphoenix
03-07-2011, 08:08 PM
Hey guys! Sorry about forgetting to post on here yesterday.

Anyways, I got a new scale last night, because my old one was on the fritz and inconsistent. (I've been needing to do this for quite some time!) I've already made a post about it in comparison to my old one, so I hope you guys don't mind if I just quote the relevant bit of that here instead of retyping it all:

Well, today was the first weigh-in with my new scale. I stepped on it several times for confirmation, and it was much more consistent than my old one. It weighed me in right at 244.0. I compared to my old scale to see how different they were, and it read 245.4, so today will be my official transition post. I ended up actually being 244.0 (woo!), but there was only a -0.8 loss since yesterday. I will be reflecting the accurate weight in my long haul ticker, but my lbs lost for March will stay consistent with my actual loss from the beginning, and then April will be a fresh start for everything.

So, I'm a tiny bit lower in weight than I thought, but I'm still measuring for my March goal as actual pounds lost. So, that means I still have 5.4 lbs to go to reach my goal for this month, because I'm not counting the base weight difference towards any loss. Hope that makes sense! Just wanted to make sure to give that update.

----------------

Carved - Congrats on hitting 20 lbs lost! :yay:

Takingcontrol - Wow, look at you...you're doing awesome staying on plan like that! Also, how have you been liking the C25k so far?

MsP - Great job staying on plan, too! You guys are doing great. :)

OklahomaChick - Almost halfway there, you can do it!

BBWDIVA - Welcome to the thread!

LouisaH

MsP: I'm so proud of you--spread some of that go go juice over this-a-way! I tracked my food today for the first time in forever. I seem to start it and then blow it off halfway through the day, but I desperately need to get back to it for the accountability.

I had a pretty irresponsible Mardi Gras weekend and paid for it on the scales today--151.6 yikes. That's up 1.2 from the 1st, so it's time to get my rear in gear and get my weight down before the next big weekend that's coming up very soon! What happened to my motivation to exercise for two hours to make up for the parties? I'm hoping that as it warms up and it's time to start shedding some clothes, my inspiration will return and I'll be ready to take off the winter fat!

It's exciting and inspiring to see so many great losses right out of the gates here--keep up the good work, chicklets, you're doing so great!

Horrible weigh-in. Went back up +1.4 to 245.4...think I may be mistaken about being able to handle the 1400 calories and still lose. Last night was my first workout since adjusting my calories a few days ago, though, so maybe I'm just retaining some fluids from that. I hope so. Completely deflated this morning, but will keep on track today and see what happens tomorrow. I started this month out with a bang, but it's pretty much slowed to the pace of cold molasses since. I'm not overeating, I'm drinking my water...maybe I just need to escalate my exercise to the next level? Will use today for pondering. Hope everyone else is having a good day today!

BBWDIVA28-Good to have you with us!

Thanks for the encouraging words, ladies! Today marks my 7th day tracking and I was rewarded with a 3 lb loss last night at WW. :D I'm using Mondays as my weigh in day for here since its my WW weigh in day too.

I feel very encouraged in general, but today I'm feeling hungrier than normal...maybe it's cycle related since there's no reason for it otherwise. So it's my first test...can I be self-controlled during ALL stages of my cycle? The week or so before TOM is when I get super munchy and feel like I'm being starved when I stick OP, but that shouldn't be until next week. Oh well. One day at a time and be thankful for the losses.

Hi all! Sorry I haven't posted in several days... I always think to come on my official weigh-in days, but that's just once per week and I really need to get to this thread more often. It seems like lots of you have had a ton of progress - awesome!!

Ophelia - you were 247.6 on 3/4, and today you are 245.4 - that's a big difference in 4 days, even if you take the 0.4 lb difference between your scales into account! I know it's frustrating seeing the up and down, but don't feel deflated - the weight IS coming off, even if the number looks different each day. On the shoes front: I plan to go to a running store nearby and have them size me. I know the shoes will be a big expense, but I'd rather that than an injury with my current shoes (which should have been replaced a while back). My biggest hurdle, I think, is figuring out the sports bra thing.

carved - congratulations on 20 lbs lost! That's a big milestone! :carrot:

takingcontrol - that's a fantastic loss! You're motivating me to get started on the C25K ASAP :)

okhlahoma - amazing, congratulations on the 4 lbs down!

Ms. P - I'm so excited for you!! You're doing amazing at staying on plan, and you are going to blow your goal away this month. I bet you'll be the first of us to reach goal for March - I am pulling for you! :)

Louisa - hang tight, the motivation will be back in no time... and in the meantime you could just pretend you're feeling motivated ;)

slimlizzie - stick with it, you'll see the drop soon :)

I'll do my official weigh-in tomorrow morning, but I don't expect much change on the scale from today or the weekend. I've been stuck right around 250 for the past three days despite being on plan... TOM is arriving and I'm feeling bloated, and I'm sure that's the reason. At least I have a drop to look forward to when TOM moves out!

Hey chicklets, I'm up 1.4 pounds from yesterday, which doesn't make sense. I wasn't exactly angelic yesterday, but all in all it was a good day, so I'm attributing it to the fact that I lifted some weights for a change and sometimes that makes me retain water. Either way, I am going to be better today, with the help of some of that Will Power Dust!

Thanks MsP, and super duper congrats on 7 days of tracking and being on plan. Three pounds is certainly a good motivator to stick with it!

Thanks Chickadee--ain't that the truth, mind over matter is EVERYTHING, in every aspect of life, really.

Shari, good luck with the job interview.

Sorry I don't have more time for personals--keep up the healthy eating everyone! We've got some fresh local spinach and lettuce coming in from a farm today, so I'm lucky!

I'm back down a tiny bit (-0.4) to an even 245.0, but still trying to get back to where I was the other day. Staying steady with the 1400 calorie experiment until I can get a better feel of how upping the calories will effect me overall. Also did a workout with a bit more focus on aerobics last night, so I may do that again tonight just to try sweating it out a bit.

Slimlizzie - I feel your pain, but keep at it and you will start dropping again!

Chickadee - Thank you. I'm still trying to learn how to gracefully accept fluctuations up and down, especially during times of experimentation. And, I think I'm going to do the same with getting some shoes. I found an actual running store in Oklahoma City that does proper fittings, so I will probably make a trek there sometime over the next weekend or two. It's about a 1.5 to 2 hr drive, but I think it will be worth it to get an accurate, safe fit and a decent shoe. The only nearby places for shoes are basic shops like Foot Locker and a sporting goods store that only has a small slat wall section of shoes available...not very nice at all, lol. Let me know how it goes for you when you get fitted, and good luck with finding a good sports bra, as well!

JasonsLea - Congrats on the loss, and !

LouisaH - Any time I do any exercise that is related to strength training, I always see a small jump the next morning, so I have no doubts that it's just fluid retention in your muscles. Either way, here is a little more dust for you today! :dust:

Bunneh - Congrats on already getting to the 165 successfully, and good luck with the updated goal!

Well done to everyone seeing loses, and chin up to those whose scales are being stubborn.

I saw 86kg when I checked out the scales today (naughty!) But not recording anything until Sunday, but that's given me so much motivation to go for it over the next two days now!

Had too much sodium and went a little over on carbs yesterday, so I was expecting a bounce this morning...but, I weighed in at 244.8, which is actually a -0.2 loss. Not great, but better than the gain I was expecting. Makes me wonder if I may have had a mini whoosh had I not had all that sodium yesterday. :headache: Probably not, but it still makes me want to kick myself...lol.

Slimlizzie - Don't you love it when the scale starts to cooperate? ;) Congrats on the nice loss!

Takingcontrol - Good luck! Looking forward to seeing what you get in two days' time.

Fauxtini - Sounds good to me! That's what I was planning on doing, starting on the 1st. Hoping that will make April a better month for losing than March is shaping up to be. Still need to make my 2 hr trek up to the city to get fitted for some new running shoes, but then I will be set. Starting to get excited! I really hope I can train my body to run without feeling like dying, haha. I've always been drawn to the idea of being a runner, but never thought I could do it. All these c25k stories have me pumped up too, though! :hyper:

TheBunneh-I changed your goal. GREAT JOB on reaching your initial goal! :cheer: Really you deserve RED, but I'm confident it will take you no time to hit 164, then we for sure will give you red even if you set another goal for the remainder of the month.

I have fluctuated a bit here. Last night the family and I went out to eat and I split a burger and fries with DH, so I got the taste I wanted but not the HUGE portion. So, I feel good about that, but I saw a small move up on the scale. Tomorrow I expect to see a more accurate read that I can report, though it's not official until Monday. I'm still down over 3 pounds even with the fluctuation which is encouraging. I'd love to reach goal by Monday just so I can actually set a new goal. I've NEVER had to do that! Being healthy ROCKS!!

Finally some progress again! I added in a long walk with my regular exercise program and increased my water to over 100oz yesterday + got to sleep in a bit this morning; as a reward, I got a little overdue woosh...-1.8 down to 243.0 today! Which means I am now halfway through to my goal for the month. I wanted to be further along by now, but my body has been having some issues with stalling, so I will take it and do so happily, lol.

NightAngel - Glad to see you pop in, even if only for a moment! Hope everything is going well for you; keep in touch!

Ms Perception, ophelia - thanks for recognizing me, sorry I haven't been as involved. I think weight loss has taken a back burner position to alleviating stress with food... I wish I could get my groove back but when I stress I eat so I don't blow up or fail because of stress.....

Ms Perception- hey looks like you're making good progress this month...congrats on the portion control, it can be hard.

Bunneh - congratulations on meeting your goal!! :carrot:

ophelia - I'll definitely let you know how it goes with the shoe fitting (I wanted to go to a "true" running store too), and please let me know how it goes for you as well. I really like taking roadtrips like that on the weekends sometimes. :) And YAY on the whoosh!!!! I LOVE those.

slimlizzie - woohoo! Glad to hear about the loss!

takingcontrol - that is where I want to be with the running! Until recently I never thought I might even want to run someday, and now I'm anxious to start. Crazy, huh??

fauxtini - I was hoping to start C25K this month instead of April... but I have a really big, stressful event coming up right at the end of the month, and so may switch my plans to April 1 and do that along with you and any others. I'll definitely keep you updated, as it would be fun to start it with others here.

NightAngel - I know how much you'd like to see the weight loss, and I am sure that when you're able to get back into the groove you will. :) We all have times when something else in our lives has to take first priority for a while.

MsP - You did way better than I would have with that burger!!! And being down 3 lbs. already this month is amazing. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you'll see goal at Monday's weigh-in!

After 5 days I finally saw the drop I was expecting yesterday morning, which was a big relief, but this morning I was exactly the same as yesterday morning. Not my normal pattern (I'm usually a few ounces down on the scale each day), and so I'm sure it's TOM plus the fact that I've not been eating enough this week due to feeling so crummy. But I'm feeling much better tonight, and am really looking forward to a couple of good days and then a happy weigh-in on Wed morning. :)

No loss in pounds for me I'm afraid :( However I did lose 3inches
I've been so busy with work this week I didn't really have the time or energy to workout. I did get back onto fit day to track my food & calories I am way down on calories so I need to start paying attention to food I'm hardly getting 1100 cals a day so that's probably where a lot of my engery lack is coming from.
Today is a new day :D Still down 2lbs this month and 3 1/4 inches so I'll take it with a smile and make a smarter effort for the rest of the month:D

Good afternoon everyone!

mystical-So good to have you back! Excellent job maintaining! What is you goal for the remainder of the month?

I've been crunched for time, so haven't been on here as much as I'd like, but that should end shortly. This coming Monday I take my big certification exam for work. It involves a raise and increased responsibilities, so I REALLY want to pass! I was going to take it the 28th, but it worked into the schedule better for the 21st. The material is really tough and I'm struggling wth recalling everything, so if you're the praying type, please send one (or more) up for me. I was a good student in school, but obviously it's been awhile since I've had to study because my brain is resisting me! LOL
On the health front, things are still going well, though they've slowed down. I'm less than a pound from my March goal now, but I was almost stagnant for the 4 days leading up to today. I was eating and exercising fine, but I know my water was low. Maybe that threw me off. Who knows? But, I'm glad I saw downward movement today. I needed the encouragement. I'm waiting to change my ticker until I see what tomorrow holds. I've been weighing 3-4 times a week (Monday counts officially), but I had weighed myself more this past week waiting for the number to drop...it just didn't until this morning. Maybe that was a sign to stop weighing myself so much! ;) Tomorrow will just be a confirmation weigh-in so I can change my ticker. Then I'll wait until the weekend.
I don't know why I'm rambling on. I'm off to study. Have a wonderful day!

I was back up to 202 this morning I seem to keep gaining and losing the same 2-3 lbs lately. I have lost well over 50 lbs but it has all been the same 1 lb so discouraging sometimes. But today is a new day and I have to just keep moving forward. Does anyone have any suggestions for dinner/super time? I have odd hours and do not get home until 7pm I am thinking it should be a lighter dinner but I am not sure what to eat... HELP please.

Goal for the remaining of the month is to lose 3 lbs to be under 200 and to once and for all stay there... Wish me luck. :)

dcapulet - CONGRATS on meeting your March goal!!! I'm thrilled for you! :carrot:

Ms.P - I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you with your exam! I am studying for an important exam as well, and definitely know the feeling of your brain not retaining as much information as you'd like. I am sure, though, that you will remember much more than you think you do. Keep going, and good luck!!!

Mystical - I eat my dinner very late almost every night - usually not until after the gym, which I get home from at 11pm. Maybe I shouldn't, but I usually just eat a regular meal at that time. Of course, I'm usually still up for another couple of hours after that.

So, this morning was my official weigh-in, and I was extremely disappointed. I am technically down 1.6 lbs from last Wednesday's weigh-in, but I have been at 247.8 or 247.6 since last Thursday or Friday and this morning I was at 248.0 :(. I have been under my calorie limit every single day, have been drinking my water, and have been exercising. There is no way that I'm not burning more calories than I am taking in each day, and so I am really irritated by this slight gain. If anything, I was too low on my calories on a few days due to feeling crummy with TOM (finally ended yesterday after 9 days), and I know I haven't gotten enough sleep (because of schoolwork). I can only figure that starting C25K on Sunday and doing it again yesterday, with a day of strength training in between, has resulted in some water retention in my muscles, as I'm definitely more sore than usual.

To add insult to injury, my husband happily announced to me last night that he's down to 236 pounds. Are you kidding me?? The man hasn't changed his eating (still eating lunch out every day, is having Wendy's and ice cream and candy and god knows what else), hasn't counted a single calorie, and hasn't done a minute of exercise, and he's down 7.1 lbs since the beginning of the month - while I saw a gain this morning, and overall I've seen only a 5.1 lb loss so far this month. GRRRRRRRRR!!! As you might imagine, my immediate response to him was more in the vein of "wtf??" rather than "congratulations, honey!" (and I feel a little bad about that).

I'm going to wait and see what the scale says tomorrow morning before I change my ticker, as I'm really loathe to up it by those 0.2 lbs. Hopefully, hopefully, some of this is water weight, and I'll see the change on the scale soon.

Hey everyone! I realized I hadn't been checking in on this thread very often as of late, so I just wanted to pop in and say hi and that I'm still here, lol. Congrats on everyone's losses & lifestyle changes, and welcome to anyone new! My quick update is that I'm down to 240.4, so closing in on my goal for March and hoping I can hit it sometime this week. Still 1.8 more pounds to go!

dcapulet - Hey twin! Haha. Congrats on hitting your goal for March, and sorry about being late on saying so! :yay:

MsP - Good luck on the exam! Also, you're getting so close...I'm cheering for you! :cheer3:

Chickadee - Yes, a lot of those things can contribute to a bit of a stall -- i.e. not enough sleep, too few calories, new workouts causing water retention in the muscles, etc. So, don't give up, it's only very temporary. I've noticed that I tend to stall up with all of those factors. Also, the DH thing, I totally understand! Lol. Everyone loses weight differently, but there is an even farther gap between men and women and how they lose weight. Men usually have a much easier time than women because of their body composition vs ours. More base muscle mass as opposed to fatty tissues will always = higher metabolisms, plus the higher testosterone lends itself to more efficient fat loss to boot! Not fair! :p

Thanks for all the encouragement for my exam, ladies! I sorta already feel better about it. It changes day to day! Anyway...

mystical-I'd be using the crockpot excessively. I don't think that's too late for a normal (not huge) meal as long as you're not going to bed right away or anything.

chickadee-What are you studying for? Bummer about DH, but my guess is you're not eating enough. We forget that can stall us sometimes. That's a tricky balance sometimes though, but keep on doing the right things and the weight will drop!

Time to study again. Lots going on here...very hard to focus on anything. My weight was almost as low as yesterday today, so I'll change my ticker to today's weight.

Ophelia and MsP - thank you for the support. :) I have been trying to make sure I eat enough without adding empty calories or too much of a particular food group, and somedays that seems trickier than others. Unfortunately I never seem to be interested in eating more vegetables at the end of the day, which I could really use!

This morning I am back down, to 247.4 lbs. Not the bigger drop I was hoping for, but I'll definitely take it instead of the gain!

Ophelia - congratulations on the loss, and getting so close to your goal! Any day now... :)

MsP - I am studying for my qualifying/preliminary exam for my PhD program. My committee grilled me for 3 hours at my pre-prelim meeting, when I presented my dissertation proposal for the first time, and that was supposed to be the low-pressure, casual meeting! I'm pretty terrified about the upcoming exam.

I found a cookbook for slow-cookers that I must have bought a few years back and didn't even realize I had one. There is a breakfast cereal that you can make, so when I wake up I will have a delicious bowl of oatmeal not to mention the house has a wonderful cinnamon, brown sugar smell :) I have been trying new dishes with couscous and quinoa lately and the family has been really supported about trying new things :)

I'm having trouble with food *sigh* I feel your pain chickadee ;) I've started using Fitday to track my calories and I just can't seem to eat enough! My choices are good ones but I'm way under for calories, I just don't have much of an appetite :(

This is EXACTLY how I feel lately; thank you for commiserating. I'm really sorry you're having trouble with this too - it's frustrating. I have to find a way to get more food in, during the day especially. I think I need to bring some good, healthy snacks to work so that I can grab something fast and easy whenever I can get back to my desk.

Congratulations on being down 1 lb this morning! :carrot:

Still doing alright, but had a naughty treat today. I don't think it'll have any effect on my weight since it was relatively small, but this weekend is DH's birthday. That means a couple meals out as we celebrate. I know I can make healthy choices at one of them, but DH wants the other place to be a surprise. He's chosen a new spot to try out and won't tell me what it is.
It's been warmer here, so I've actually taken walks on my lunch breaks the last 2 days. That's been a nice change of activity from doing exercise dvd's.
With everything else going on it looks like my grandma is only going to last a couple more days. My other grandma just passed away last week, but we weren't as close. This grandma who is fading was a super special woman and will be dearly missed. We thought we were going to lose her a few months ago, but she hung on for awhile at home with hospice care there. Now she is fading fast and in the hospital again. I guess we'll see.
I better go get some rest. Have a good one!

Happy Spring! :flow2:
I'm still struggling to stay OP. I weighed 246.0 this morning :(

Don't know if I'll make this month's goal..... but if I don't try harder I won't even come close. I'm planning an OP day today.

At least the weather has turned warmer and the snow has melted so I can get outdoors and get more exercise.

I'm still struggling :( I've gain more weight this month instead of losing.

So I've change my March goal from a weight goal to behavior goals for the rest of the month.
1)Check in on this thread daily
2) A daily walk - no matter how short

I've also changed my long term weight goal to 199.8.

Changing that goal is more of a psych boost - but the fact of the matter is anything under 200 lbs. would be an improvement to my life.

Hope your day is a good one!

I've been making sure to eat above 1200 calories each day, and yet am still right where I was on Friday - 246.0. Grrrrrr. The scale dipped on Saturday to 245.4, then up to 246.3 yesterday, then back at 246.0 today. This is making me a little nuts. I don't know if it's the stress I'm experiencing, or sodium, or the exercise (I recently both upped the weight at the gym on strength training days and started C25K), or not enough sleep, or something hormonal, but my weight has been wonky for the past 3 weeks. I get stuck somewhere and just sit there for several days, then see a drop - though not as large of a drop as I would expect. I am drinking tons of water to deal with any sodium (yesterday over 100 ounces), but that doesn't seem to be helping things much (or maybe it is - maybe the fluctuations would be worse without the water!). I need to get past my exam next week and then really figure out how to tackle this problem. In the meantime, staying on plan is the best I can do.

Weight was 245.2 lbs at my regular weekly weigh-in this morning. That's technically 2.8 lbs down since last Wednesday, but only 0.2 lbs down since Saturday with all the bouncing around I've done. I'd really love it if my losses went back to the predictable pattern I'd become accostomed to previously, as the ups and downs when I'm totally on plan are making me a little frustrated. At this point I'm still 2.2 lbs from my March goal, with my toughest week of the month ahead (exam is next Tuesday). I really want to make my goal, but I don't think there's anything more I can do to make it happen than what I'm already doing. OK, I could get a little more sleep, but that's about it.

MsP - I am so sorry to hear about your grandmothers. I can't believe I didn't see that until now; I really apologize. I hope your grandmother who had been back in the hospital was improving or resting comfortably, and I really hope your family have been doing ok this past week. Also - I went back and checked, and saw that your exam was at the beginning of this week. I hope it went well for you, and hope it feels like a relief to have gotten past it!

susiemartin - I'm sorry you've been struggling lately , but I'm glad yesterday felt better for you! I think your behavior goals are great ones, and I'm impressed that you're able to find strategies to work through the current struggle. Whatever you can do that helps you toward your goal is worthwhile.

Sorry I've been so wrapped up in myself around here. I am really very stressed with my upcoming exam, and wish I had 4 more weeks instead of 4 more days to study. I just can't retain all the information, and some of it seems so useless for me.

I finally had a little whoosh this morning, and am down to 243.8 lbs, which puts me 0.7 lbs from my March goal. Normally I'd say that I'll definitely make it, but with the way my weight has been all over the place lately, I'm not sure! I will keep working at it though.

It's been about a week since I've posted here; sorry for being so MIA! I've been bouncing around on my last 0.5 lbs or so to goal for days now, so I haven't really had the heart to keep posting in this thread until I had some kind of definitive move in either direction. That being said, I am pleased to announce that I finally had a mini-woosh this morning, and I weighed-in at 237.4, which actually puts me -1.2 PAST my goal...yay! I can finally go red this month! :yay:

MsP - I am so sorry to hear about your grandmothers...my thoughts are with you!

Chickadee - You've been doing great this week! So close to goal now! I also saw that you've started c25k...did you ever get a fitting, or did you end up just picking some out on your own?

Susiemartin - I'm glad everything is starting to work out a bit better for you! I also think behavior goals are just as important, if not more so, than weight ones, so good for you!

I still need to get fitted for both, but just haven't found the time. I am hoping a can figure out a way to get to the store next week after my exam on Tuesday so that I can meet my March goal of buying those items, lol, but it's going to be tough as my work schedule is going to be completely crazy Wednesday through Friday. Chickadee - Thanks! And, no...I still haven't made my trek up to the city yet, either. I had some unexpected dental stuff come up this week, and DH got a speeding ticket last weekend (:frypan:!), so funds have been a little tighter this month. I'm still wanting to start my c25k on the 1st, and I would hate to put it off over shoes, so I will probably just start it out with my old shoes (which I've literally had since PE classes in HS...eep!) for the first week or so. I will still want to get new shoes before getting too far into it, though, so Ill be trying to make my way to the store ASAP.

How have you been liking the program so far? Has it seemed manageable/difficult/etc?

Eeek, sorry about the dental problems! Those aren't ever fun. If you do get to the store for shoes before I do, please post and let me how it goes!

The program... hmmm. Well, I think the jury is still out for me. I think the program is a good one - I am seeing improvements already - but I'm not sure I'll ever like running or get to the point where I feel reasonably comfortable doing it.

The first day I tried it was terrible - I made the mistake of trying to do it in my neighborhood, and between jogging too fast in the first run intervals and the hills, I was just dying. I couldn't make it through all the runs. So I re-did Day 1 a few days later on the treadmill at the gym (with a slight incline), and that was much more manageable. Since then I've done both the treadmill and outside (on a mostly flat path that runs around the football & baseball fields at a local middle school), and have noticed that my gait feels more comfortable and natural (and therefore my legs don't get as tired) when I jog at a faster pace, but my lungs have trouble keeping up at the faster pace. For me, the faster pace is around 5mph (outside), and the slower pace is more like 4.3mph (on the treadmill). So still really slow either way, lol. Going from week 1 to week 2 felt ok. I liked the longer run intervals better (because there were fewer of them!), even though the by the last one I was really beat.

I feel like the program is helping to improve my cardiovascular fitness and is definitely helping me move toward the point where I could jog with more stamina, but I'm just not sure I could ever really enjoy doing this. Right now it's still too hard for me to enjoy it (especially compared to my brisk, much longer walks on the treadmill with increasing incline, which I truly enjoy), and what's getting me through right now is that I don't want to quit and really want to have the ability to run someday.

I hope I'm not scaring you off by giving you an idea of how it's working for me. I should note that I have never been a runner, at all, and always disliked cardio everything in the past. I dreaded having to run the mile in high school, and had a lot anxiety over it despite the fact that I was much fitter and thinner back then and could actually get through a mile without stopping. I just hated it. So, if you're someone who has ever enjoyed jogging at all in the past, or even just didn't mind it, you will probably enjoy doing the program a whole lot more than I am. I definitely hope you do, and I really look forward to hearing about how it goes for you. :)

chickadee32 I am really wanting to start some kind of cardio program. I too have never really been a cardio person, but I would just like for once in my life be physically fit enough to run a 5k if I so choose. Does it help you to stay motivated. I could really use some motivation this week :cb:

Ms Perception Glad to see you are getting out and walking. I would love to be able to do that. Just has I thought it was turning spring we got another snow. I just have had no motivations for anything for myself this week.

My week has had many ups and downs this week. The good news is that I finally got a contract at work I am now officially the Quality Programs Assistant. Has been crazy with meetings and learning all the systems. It has not been good for my health this week though, have been so very tired haven't been to the gym not even once, and the cold weather did not help with the motivation factor. I have not eaten clean this week either has not been crazy bad but just not where I know it should be. Have been eating soup from the crock-pot lots of veggies but think it must be a little high in salt since my weight is up to 203 today :?: So needless to say I have to work really hard for the rest of this week and next to get to my goal.. Still have 4 lbs to lose now. Help! Help! somebody please :)

Hope everyone else is having a wonderful week :) I will check in again tomorrow.

Mystical - I think it could be good for motivation. It motivated me because I didn't want to let myself quit, lol. If you're not a cardio person, though, maybe just start with some long, brisk walks (outside or on a treadmill)? For me, that was a much easier way to get started... but I had a LOT of improving to do, and I'm sure you have much less. :)

susiemartin - Great job making improvements every day!! I'm not sure any of us is EVER at 100%... there are ALWAYS things we can improve upon. Just working toward our goals every day is an accomplishment.

carved - Sending will power dust your way, and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!!

takingcontrol - Congratulations on meeting your March goal!!! :carrot: That's fantastic!

MsP - Just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking about you. I hope you're doing ok.

Edit: I have nothing new to report, lol. Weight is up by about a pound, which is no doubt water weight as I've been exercising and have been within my calorie range but a) have had way too much sodium the past few days, and b) am likely also retaining some water in sore muscles. I am patiently waiting for it to drop back down, and as long as that happens by my last weigh-in this month I'll be happy. :) I did decide to stop doing C25K, which was a hard decision (I didn't want to "quit") but the right one I think. It's just too much strain on my body and is causing me more anxiety than it's worth right now (and I burn more calories with my incline walking anyway!). I will add some jogging to my walks on the treadmill at my own pace after my legs heal a bit and when it feels right.

So sorry for being MIA this past week and a half. My grandma died last Monday, so we headed down to be with my family for a few days. It was a good visit and my grandpa seems to be doing well, so it wasn't tense or difficult. We are just blessed with countless wonderful memories of my grandma and she will be dearly missed, but we're thankful she's not in pain anymore.
I passed my test Monday, so there's a huge weight off my shoulders there! It was a kind of emotional day, getting the call about my grandma at 2 a.m. and then taking my test at 10:45 a.m. The good Lord gave me the strength to deal with it all and it went well.
Next week we go down for the memorial service for my other grandma. I wasn't as close with her, but we wanted to be there for my dad and say "goodbye".
My eating has been a disaster since last Monday, so I am nowhere close to reaching my March goal anymore. I'm disappointed in myself for being so out of control, but I went to WW yesterday to stop the downward spiral and get my head back in the game. Today is not going to be OP with my bowling banquet at lunch and going out to my DD's favorite restaurant (it's her b-day) for supper, but I got up and exercised this morning and ate a light, healthy breakfast. I am going to plan healthy meals for the rest of the week and stick to the plan. I can do this. I don't know why I let things derail me so easily.

Just checking in really quick...I was 235.4 this morning, but I've been sick today, so I'm not sure how accurate that is. I expect something a little higher tomorrow, but we'll see. Overall, that puts me 3 lbs past goal for the month. I'm starting to think there is something to the whole notion of the stress of trying to reach a certain number can cause stalls right before, but then - after that is stress is relieved - your body starts losing more consistently again. At least that's how it seems this time around anyway, lol. Oh well.

-----------

Chickadee - I've never been a runner, either...so you're probably right mentioning how it would feel, lol. But, I still want to try it out. I think finding an area to run in this town will be hard for me, so I may end up trying it out on a treadmill first, as well. There's no place in this neighborhood, so I will have to travel to find a good spot anyways, so it may as well be the gym if I can't find anything. Either way, I will let you know what I end up having to do! Also, I'm sorry the program didn't work out for you, but I think it's probably best to let your body heal, as well....you can always start it again later if you want, and adding in intervals of jogging to your normal routine first will probably make it alot easier next time around. (P.S. Just saw your last post....:congrat: on hitting your March goal! :yay:)

Susiemartin - Glad to hear you're doing well! :)

Carved - Good luck with the last 1.5! You can do it! :cheer2:

TakingControl - Congrats on hitting your March goal, as well! :yay:

MsP - I am so sorry for your loss, MsP. However, I am glad that you got to spend some time with family and enjoy your memories of her in life. She's no longer suffering, and I am positive she is still watching over you all in some way. I also feel for your other side of the family, as well, so I will keep all of you in my thoughts. As for the rest of your update, congrats on passing your tests despite everything going on, and I'm sure you will get back on track right away. I think your derail is understandable, considering. The important thing is to not let it keep spiraling, and it sounds like you're getting that under control.

takingcontrol - Thank you! :)

susiemartin - Congrats on the OP days, and seeing the scale move downward! You're doing such a great job of checking in regularly.

carved - Boo for TOM... but even if it impacts the scale, you still know you're moving down and will see the loss when the TOM water weight goes away.

MsP - I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. It is tough emotionally no matter what, but I am glad there is comfort in spending time with your family and knowing that your grandmother is no longer in any pain.

Also, huge congratulations to you on passing your test, even with all of the other stresses you've experienced the past month! I'm so pleased for you, as I know you worked very hard to prepare for this exam - it really paid off! And I agree with Ophelia - I think it's totally understandable that you haven't been on plan the last week or so. As important as our health and weight loss are, there are times other things just need our attention more and weight loss has to take a back set for a short while. I'm glad to hear that you're hopping right back into it now that some of the stressors have eased. :)

Ophelia - I hope I didn't scare you off at all re C25K, lol. Even though I stopped doing the program, I am still glad that I did try it. I'll really be looking forward to hearing about how it goes for you, and I hope you enjoy it a lot! I look learning from your experiences so that I have a little more knowledge going into it the second time around. :) And down three pounds past your goal for March.... WOW!! That is really big loss for the month! Congratulations on seeing all that work pay off... that low number on the scale is SUCH a nice reward. :)

So, not weight-loss related... but I had my qualifying exam for my PhD program this afternoon, and I passed!!!! I was truly terrified I was going to fail, and I am so.freaking.relieved. So now, I am officially a "PhD candidate" rather than a "PhD student". :D Now I just to keep myself in control calorie-wise when I go out to celebrate later tonight...

Oh my goodness, I stepped into a black hole this month. There's still some of it on the bottom of my shoe. I have had a decadent month, and was up to 154.6 a week ago, but I caught some little stomach thing over the weekend and ended up at 148.4 yesterday, which is a truly amazing thing. I did some circuit training yesterday, which always makes me retain some water weight, but I am still at 149.8, and I'm praying I can stay under 150.

MsP, my condolences on your grandmothers, both close and not-so-close. It's hard to just move on when there's a big chunk of your life missing. I think being in control is one of the things that help us move forward through the grief, when we're ready. Super big congratulations on passing that test, it must have been hard that morning.

Chickadee--congrats to you on your test. Wowza, that's awesome!

Ophelia--Hooray for you! If that's not a good reminder to DEstress, I don't know what is!

susiemartin--glad to see your back to your old OP self!

Hope everyone else is doing swell, and thanks MsP for starting the April (what? April?) thread. I'll post there at the start of the month. I'm sure I'll have the same hated goal of trying to reach 145...but not really caring enough to make it happen. What is my damage?

Yesterday was OP and today is going well. I'll use tomorrow morning's weight to gauge my March weight loss, sad as it may be.

susiemartin-Thank you and congrats on getting back OP. I'm with you in that struggle.

LouisaH-Thanks and I'm glad you bounced back down and accomplished staying under 150.

MsP and Louisa, thank you!

Final weigh-in this morning was 242.3, which is bs because I was at 241.4 the past two days, and I was on plan both days. Water retention due to TOM, exercise, sodium or something. At least it's still under my goal; total of 10.8 lbs lost in March if I use today's number. I refuse to change my ticker to reflect water weight though, lol.

Congratulations to everyone who achieved their goals this month!!
