Slavika Thanks for the update on DH. Glad he is enjoying his cousin's visit. See you later still have company.

Hi Everyone:

Had to finish some more music yesterday and today. A friend from up north sent me some great songs. have you ever heard a song 'Baltimore Oriole" by Hoagy Carmichael. It came from the old movie 'To Have and Have Not.' It is the funniest song, and I have a guy who is just the one to do it as a solo.
Our main theme this year is Birds. and I am calling the show, "It's for the Birds" It should be fun. Found another one called 'Shady Lady Bird" .

DH's brother is in big trouble. First a pulmonary embolism, next possible congestive Heart failure, and then tonight, SIL said that he flunked a stress test, and they feel he has some blockages. So they want to do a heart catheritization, but he is taking blood thinner for the lung, so right now he is between the proverbial rock and a hard place. She didn't know when they could do the test, and because of all his past history he is not a candidate for by-pass surgery.

Peggy: Nice to hear from you. Even if life isn't eventful, drop us a line now and then.

Maria: your Country Music Festival sounds like fun. I like some country music, especially the up-beat songs, but the nasally twangy singing is not for me. Maybe those are the mournful ones you spoke of. Hope you have a good time. I am definitely not a 'neatnik' in my house, and especially now, as I am still not supposed to do some things.

Slavika: Hope you and DH and cousin, have a great visit. Steak dinner sounds good. We'll be waiting to hear how all goes on Friday.

Eileen: I lived on the border of Canada and U.S. but it was separated by the St. Lawrence River. So I don't have so much of the phraseology, but I do recognize the Canadian accent quickly.

Hello to Lily, Glenda, Karen, Trudy. Have a great day. Ann

Guys, what a day! Actually last night I had a belated massage. It had been 2 weeks because of the ice storm last week. By the time this one came around, I had about 4 days of achiness and even a little nausea, but I think it is from taking pain killers. I think I still need these massages. Just going to the chiro only once a week from now on. Stupid little wreck! Or maybe it is just Old Me!

Maria, we love country songs. My favorite all-time singer is George Strait, but Alan Jackson is coming up fast. Everytime I hear an Alan Jackson song, he touches on something I have felt or gone through. That is what makes country so appealing, but I agree about the real twangy stuff.

Ann, what are some of the other songs you are planning? If you have people who like to have fun, this would be fun, but if you have old stickinthemud types, it could be frustrating. Sorry to hear about your BIL. It does sound like he is in a pickle, but eventually the embolism will be gone?

Slavika, still praying for your DH. And I know he is enjoying his cousin. We all go full circle, but seem to come back to many of our family and old friends we have known forever. Something about shared history.

I am going to the eye doctor in an hour. Going to get glasses. Haven't had glasses in years. Also need to get new contacts as soon as possible. It is awful not to see very well.

Here it is a sunny very cold day. At least it isn't gray. Not my favorite month of the year!

Smile Hi everyone

It is cold and sunny here today too Glenda. I am with you on the gray days... just hate them worse than the cold. Sorry to hear you are still having trouble from the car accident. We don't bounce back like we used to. Last night my DH asked me how my foot was (it has been bothering me for a long time, I think it is coming from my back), then he asked about "the tooth" (I am supposed to have a root canal but been avoiding the dentist), he moved on to my tummy problems (lots of nausea and dizziness making me generally cranky).... we then had a good laugh, it seems I am in a "holding pattern circling the airport" with this old body of mine.
Maria kd lang is a favorite of mine. She has a great voice. I have heard her new CD, but don't have it. I think true western music is the twangy stuff of Hank Williams. I like the new country, but not fond of Shania Twain type songs. One singer I don't care too much for is Celine Dion.. her voice is nice (when she doesn't warble), but I just hate all her gestures and find her very full of herself during interviews.
Also.... if you pictured my home as neat you were mistaken. I have a fridge and stove sitting in my living room and all sorts of boxes and stuff piled up in the rec room, it is quite a disaster here. It is warm and cozy though... Ann You are sounding like your old self again. Nice to read about your latest musical production. Do you play any musical instruments? Have you always been involved with music?
Slavika You sure have been busy these days. It is really thoughtful of you to keep your DH from dwelling on his illness. Tomorrow he will have the answers he needs. However.... I miss seeing you....
Peggy Bowling is a lot of fun, but it can be a shock to the system, heaving those balls down the lanes if you aren't limber. I found that out the hard way a few years ago. Our Church ladies had a bowling night and it was years since I had played.... ouch.... I know the pain you speak of.
Eileen.. do you really think Canadians have an accent? Never thought I did.. . I know the French Canadians have one and the further East you go into the Maritimes there is a definite accent, but west we all sound the same.
Karen Your family and friends must be pleased to have someone to visit in Florida during this long winter. I know you are very happy to have made the move. How is the little sprout doing?
Lily Don't you have a pc at home? I always thought you did...

Talk to you all later....

I came back to add this little article from 3fc home page... I found it interesting and can relate to it. I never sleep well and wake up so many times, always hungry and craving something sweet.
Lack of Sleep Contributes to Weight Gain 06 DEC 2004
According to a new study, losing sleep can raise levels of hormones linked with appetite and eating behavior. Participants who slept only 4 hours a night showed an 18% reduction in leptin, the hormone that tells the brain when the body is no longer hungry, and a 28% increase in ghrelin, which triggers hunger. The study also noted that the participants tended to reach for sweet and starchy foods after a short night of sleep. Eve Van Cauter, a professor of medicine at the University of Chicago who led the study, said "Since the brain is fueled by glucose, we suspect it seeks simple carbohydrates when distressed by lack of sleep.

G'day all,

My visitors are still in bed so I would quickly check how everyone is going.

Glenda I have not heard of the country and western singers you mention, I must keep an eye (ear ) for them. How annoying for you that these aches and pains still keep bothering you. How long now since you had that little 'bingle' in your car? I agree with Trudy the older I am getting the harder it is to get rid of these aches and pains.

Ann your musical sounds like a lot of fun. I can picture you being very involved in it all. No mention of your dh, does that mean 'no news is good news'???

Trudy I so agree with you about Celine Dion, she is just too good to be true. I have seen her on the Oprah show, talk about the mutual admiration society and as far as her singing, I guess she has an incredible voice but it is not the sort of voice I like (Whitney Houston is another one I cannot listen to) I cannot listen to a whole CD of Shania Twain, but I do like some of her songs. I also like Dolly Parton eventhough some of her songs are so pityful that it almost makes you puke! WE often listen to her CD's whilst driving and one of my favourite songs of hers is 'Love is like a butterfly'.

Guests are stirring, boy they make me look good, they are soooo extravagant!
Lion King left me speechless, tell you more later.

Cheers
Maria

G'day all,

Visitors gone, sheets washed, beds remade ready for next lot of visitors in about 3 weeks time

If any of you have the opportunity to see 'The Lion King' DO, it is the most visually spectacular show I have ever seen. It is only showing in Sydney and will probably take about 3 years before it gets to Adelaide so I am very pleased I have seen it. Words really cannot describe it adequately, what talented, clever and innovative people who put all this together

It was quite a hectic 4 days with my sister in law and her girlfriend. Both of them do nothing on their own and I had to be the tour guide, cook, and shopping advisor. DH said that his father always called his sister 'lady muck', and boy she lived up to her nick name!!! They both bought so much stuff, all for themselves, and I was quite appalled the way they spoke of their husbands after a few glasses of champagne Both are in their mid sixties but act like a couple of teenagers. I had seen glimpses of their behaviour at home but never having lived with them, I did not realise how stupid they both were.
Enough already, the best thing is that it makes dh and I realise how lucky we are with each other

Nice to see you Lily, I am glad you liked the Blue Mountains, they certainly are spectacular.
Not many other postings, I hope everyone is OK, especially Slavika, I thought there would have been some results last Friday

I am off to town to have my eyes tested, I am really noticing a deterioration.
Friday off to the Tamworth Music Festival, should be fun.

Take care all,

Cheers
Maria

I feel like i can repeat Maria word for word. Company is gone and the room was cleaned and made ready for SIL to return. We picked her up from the airport yesterday. She was so glad to be home she was kissing the house. Her Sons house had 16 stairs she climbed a thousand times she said. She was doing a lot of running with her son something she doesn't do at home. Some time if it wasn't for the visits to the doctor it would be weeks when she doesn't want to leave the hous. I don't get it. So anyway it is back to the 4 of us. (I include Sprout in that )

Sprout and i were out for our evening walk that he takes me on That little guy can easily do a mile and want to do more. If it wasn't dark i would go around again. But I really hate walking at night alone. Guess I'll have to get DH to go with us. i don't like to be so dependant

Well i too had hoped we would hear form Slavika . but maybe the old saying no news is good news.

Have to go
Karen

I didn't get to come back here lastnight.

We have a beautiful sunny day here. It is cool but at least we are not stuck in the house.

Sprout has had his walk for this morning and i will be taking SIL to her appointment this afternoon. DH took her this morning. we must take turns you know.

Again have to go and get things done before I have to leave

Slavika, where are you? I too am anxious to hear what happened at the doctor's on Friday.

Karen, so are these the doctor's appointments for your SIL you were concerned about a few weeks ago? I am so glad she has you all and that you do get along well. Sprout is definitely your fourth person. Works until you want to play bridge.

We were off yesterday for MLK birthday. I saw Oprah's show regarding the tsunami and have been in such shock since. I guess I have not seen that graphic of pictures before. The land looked like a barren wasteland.

Maria, your SIL does not sound like fun. I have been known to do a little "man-bashing", but kind of in good fun. You know, like "It's a Man-Thing", regarding anything negative. But I sure do love my hubby and would not know what to do without him. These ladies almost sound like selfish little debutantes, except for their ages. Oh well. you don't know anyone really until they have visited you for a few days.

Hi Everybody

Sorry I have been so long in getting back here but there have been so many "if's and maybe's" going on that I thought I would wait until I had some concret information to share with you all.
We did meet with the new specialist last Jan 14th and he told us that he felt that all the tests were inconclusive and he wanted DH to come back on Monday January 17th for yet another of those horrible bone marrow aspirations....that would be his third one. Our son had some rearranging of his schedule but did meet us at the Cancer Clinic (what a sweet son we have). The fellow that did the procedure was very good at it but it still hurts like #$@& and my DH was squeezing my hand so tightly, I told Trudy, that my rings were embedded into the sides of my fingers. Our son did his part by trying to cheer his Dad up by saying it's going well, you're doing good, it's almost finished. DH was laying on his tummy and the nurse said, she would explain all the steps as the fellow did the procedure and my son is waving his arms around and "mouthing"....no, no, don't explain. DH, finally said no don't tell me anything, just tell me when it's finished, I don't want a play by play. If it wasn't such a serious and painful procedure it would have been funny. They said that this bone marrow would be sent to Mayo Clinic and we would get the results in 3 days.......that was yesterday.

This afternoon, DH own oncologist calls him and said that she just spoke with the specialist and that he now agrees that DH does have Multiple Myeloma. Apparently the prednisone pills he is on have already begun to show some positive progress and they were getting conflicting results with the blood tests and urine samples and the number of M-Protein cells in the marrow. She said that the cancer was treatable and they would be starting him on a 3 drug chemotherapy. We will meet with her on Thursday at 10:00 and hopefully we will get going on all this and start to make my DH better, and get him into remission. I feel like they made DH go through with that bone marrow aspiration for nothing yesterday, but then I thought it wouldn't do any harm to get yet another opinion. Our guest, DH cousin left yesterday morning for the airport at 7:00 so it is back to just the two of us. It's nice to have company, but it's nice to be on our own again and not worry about somebody else.
It was nice reading all your posts, talk to you soon. Bye.

G'day all,

Just back from the gym and saw your post Slavika sounds you are making some progress which is great. I know what you mean, nice to be just 2 again as nice as company is, especially in the case of your dh's cousin, one really appreciates just being 2 again after visitors have left.
You do have a lovely son, it is times like these when you really do appreciate his support. Sounds like you are both on the same wavelength ie ' my son is waving his arms around and "mouthing"....no, no, don't explain.'

Nice to 'see' you also Glenda I agree the Tsumani disaster is just unbelievable and just so incredibly sad for all the people that have lost loved ones and all their belongings. I do think the positive is how it has brought the world together to come to the aid of the stricken countries, it is a pity that there has to be a disaster to bring the world together.
Yes you are right about my sister-in-law and her friend, you gave a very apt description of a couple of spoilt debutantes

A very hot day here today hence an early trip to the gym for me this morning. I am now going to 'de-fuzz' myself, have a shower, turn on the aircon and I am ready for the day!
I have ordered some very dramatic looking glasses, they are a bit different but not too way out. I will pick them up in 2 weeks and I will see the world a lot clearer....I hope!

Have a great day all,
Cheers
Maria

Here is Ann's post

Hi Everyone:

Something has changed since the last time I was able to post and now I can't get logged on. They had given me a password, some time ago, but now it is considered invalid. So I have made contact with the web master, and am waiting for a new password. So just decided to post to you all this way, except that I miss Eileen.

Things have been busy around here, and frustrating as well.
BIL is holding his own and making some improvement.

DH had his 3rd iron infusion yesterday, and today we went to the dermatologist for a check-up. Dh got zapped many times. He is now paying for all the times he was out on the bridge of ships in the tropics, and got sunburned face. He seems to be doing some better, a bit more energy. Next week is number four, and then the evaluation to see if it is doing what it is supposed to.

I have had two chorus rehearsals now, but most frustrating, as I sent for 2 pieces of music and 2 CD accompaniment tracs. When it all arrived they had sent an incorrect CD, and I had to return the incorrect one. Then when I came to pass out all the music yesterday, discovered that they had sent the wrong arrangement of one song. Called the company and it was their error, so they are sending the correct arrangement and will have UPS pick up the incorrect one. Just makes me angry. Why couldn't they have got it right the first time and save all this hassle?

Our show is entitled "It's for the Birds!" . We are doing a lot of songs that have to do with birds, the premise being that we are going on a bird watching bus trip. I found a lot of bird songs, but also we can sing some songs about where we might go, too. That way I can incorporate some music that isn't about birds, like MIssissippi Mud, and I'm Alabamy Bound, and Georgia on my Mind. - to name a few. We justs clown around and have fun. Found an old song called 'Shady Lady Bird. and we are going to have a good time with that.

Glenda: Hope your massage has helped. I know it helps me. I'm sure you enjoyed MLK time off. Big parades around here.

Maria: I think there is an old adage about how your can never really know a person, until you have lived with them for a few days. So now you really know your lady friends. We have a friend from up north who is coming to visit us in March for 15 days, but she has come before, and she is good company, so we don't mind that.

Slavika: We are all waiting for news. Hope your Fri. appointment had a positive outcome.

Trudy: That satellite page of views was awesome, and horrible. Pictures like that really bring home the somplete devastation. It will take years for those countries to recover. And now they don't want help from U.S. if it is delivered by our Military. Don't understand that mindset.

Karen: We had successful apointments today. But DH did get zapped a lot. We go to Dr. Clayton. Her office is in the Shady Oaks complex on the left on Thonotasassa Rd. Just down the street from a big Publix and also Buddy Freddies restaurant. We did have our lunch there. We will find a time to get together.

Peggy: I started a project today. have been watching 'Clean Sweep' on TLC and have got some great ideas about making less clutter. Stopped at Lowes on the way home and bought some canvas boxes, and re-arranged all of my linen closet. Can't believe how good it looks, and i got rid of some stuff that had been crammed in there, and I had forgotten all about.

Lily: I sure don't like the cold weather we have been having. I can handle a warm rain, but I don't like those gloomy gray days. You sound busy, but hope you can get in to 'see' us all now and again.

Guess I have bent your ear long enough. Hope I can soon say I will see you on the board. Ann

Good to hear from you Ann and nice to read your usual 'newsy' post.
Hope you will soon have the correct music CD's and also that you get your password rectified for our forum.

Hi Everyone,

Getting Ann's email reminded me it's been a while since I was here. I would be here more often but I have a hard time getting here. It is probably just my computer. I could fall asleep while this site is loading.

Slavika I bet you are glad that they are finally going to start treatments on your dh. I know I would want to be starting so I could get it over with. And I wouldn't want a play by play of what they are doing. To me sometimes ignorance is a good thing. Your son is very special.

Maria your sil sounds like she thinks she is a princess. I bet you are glad that your company is gone. I loved the Lion King. We lucked out and had 7th row seats and they paraded right by us. The costumes were incredible. I am not into a lot of country western songs. I remember a few years back traveling to Florida and all we could get on the radio were really strange songs. It was funny. But I love to do the line dancing. Wish it was warm enough to swim here.

Trudy my friend just loves Celine. We were at a friends for one of our chick flic nights and she brought a Celine video that we had to watch. I did see part of that Oprah show and she was too much. I like Cher and her costumes.

Glenda glad that the message is helping. Maybe it should be a weekly thing.

Ann your park has more fun. You should make a video and we could pass it around so we could see you all in action.

Karen all that walking with Sprout is a good and will keep you in shape. Our dog likes to "drive" and sometimes we let him. He picks the streets and we tag along.

It is soooo cold here now. Probably not as cold as the gals in Canada. One day is warm enough to go out in a sweatshirt and the next it is 0. I hate all the bundling up and I think my hands and feet are always cold. The sun has set a record-it has been sunny for 2 days in a row.

Been searching the net for some cute baby shower ideas. I am having one for my dil for my side of the family in March. I have found a few cute things. Think it is going to be a brunch one. Come early and leave early. She is having a couple of other ones but I want mine to be the best. They still won't tell the name they have picked out.

Just wanted to check in with you all. Take care.
