Lovely to 'see' you Ann, sounds like you have had a busy time.
Your description of your home is not something we really have here. It will be interesting to see all these differences when we do our trip.
Slavika Very interesting about the motor home, we thought they would be a lot more expensive. We are still thinking they would be the best option.....but who knows we may well change our mind again a few times before we make the trip.
Sounds like you are having fun finishing your decorating.
I have stopped and started this post about 1/2 a dozen times and I now have a customer visiting.........
Maria the reason you thought that motor homes cost more then I said is because they do!! I told DH what I told you and he showed me a book with motor homes for sale ...and even used ones can run to $40,000.00 to $60,000.00.
I asked him to check the board at the market anyway and he did. LOL LOL, it was NOT a motor home it was a used trailer that somebody had parked at a lake and used it as a "summer cottage". Sorry about the mis-information. Ann thank you for the information on your home. Your house is the kind I would like to have, and it's what I call a "mobile home". That was the kind that my aunt and uncle had in the park in Texas. Their's was not a double wide, however, it was very long, and had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, small laundry room, and then the living room and a kitchen. The kitchen window faced the front of the mobile home and that is where she had her table. Something like that would just be perfect for us and hopefully in our price range. Peggy wouldn't it be great if we all lived near each other so that we could give each other a hand......with all the talent on this board we would all be in great shape.
I have picked up my curtains, and the colour is good (oyster) I just need to do a bit of sewing on them so that the tops will fit the bigger designer rods. I will pick up the wood dowel rod and paint it tomorrow, and then get the brackets put up. I think that will work just fine.
I'll post the chicken recipe separately. Bye now.
Ingredients:
2 tsp dark sesame oil (I just used olive oil)
4 -4 oz. boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Salt and Pepper
15 oz can of Mandarin Oranges in light syrup
1/2 cup fat free chicken broth
1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce ( I used much less)
2 tsp cornstarch
Instructions:
Heat oil in large nonstick skillet. Season both sides of chicken with salt and pepper, add chicken to skillet and cook until golden.
Drain oranges and reserve 1/4 cup liquid. Add oranges with the reserved liquid to skillet and simmer for another 2 minutes. Whisk together broth, soy sauce and cornstarch in a small bowl; add mixture to pan and simmer until sauce thickens and chicken is cooked through, about 3 minutes more. ***** put the orange slices in right near the end so that they don't get all mushy looking. It makes a nicer presentation.
YIELD: One chicken breast plus 1/4 cup sauce per serving.
SERVINGS: 4
POINTS: 5 points each.
We thought it was too good to be true Slavika Now we know Canada is like everywhere else and not the heaven of cheap motorhomes that we thought it was for 5 minutes
I agree between the lot of us, our skills are quite diverse and how good it would be to all meet regularly at 'tea time' to do some sharing of those skills.
For the time being this forum will have to suffice.
I have had a busy few days. We had a great family dinner on the return of d-i-l from overseas. She brought me a beautiful painting from South Africa, it is difficult to explain but once framed I will take a photo and post it to share.
DD going through a bit of a 'down' time for no specific reason. Spoke to her on the phone for over 2 hours, she just misses us a lot and wished she was living in Adelaide so she could pop in whenever she felt like it. I think it might also be a good idea if she chucks out her psychology books and stops analysing every aspect of her life!
It is nice that we are so close and she can talk to me about anything and everything, something I was never able to dowith my mother. It is quite amazing how similar we are.
We are leaving on Tuesday for Melbourne to attend her graduation when she receives her double degree in psychology and nursing.
By now you probably all read my email about the weird emails some of us have been receiving, all very strange. DH has no idea how Lily got to receive an email from him with an attachment that certainly looks very much like a virus.
I have run my virus checker to just make absolutely sure there are no viruses present on my computer and I am happy to say, I am 'clean'.
HAve a great weekend and watch out for those viruses!!
I cannot believe it! I did it again! Lost another long post. Anyway, I will get to the short version. We got a new grandson last Wednesday. Our DIL was induced last Wednesay. She invited her mother and me to watch, so we saw little Jackson David come into the world. He weighed 7 3 and is just fine. What an emotional time. When I held him, he peed all over me. Told him I will be really important to him soon.
Maria - You are going to have a lot of surprises when you visit us. It really sounds like people aren't that much different, but we have a lot of different "things" we take for granted. Can't wait to meet you.
Marnie - I know all about slow weight losses. I am the champion in that department. Seems like I am usually a little loose when I have that problem with counting points or don't drink the water or exercise. But, relax, it will come off eventually. And the important thing is that you feel better while going down.
Lily - Daffodil Hill? Sounds delightful. We had some cut daffodils in the office 2 weeks ago--a fundraiser for cancer. It was so great seeing such bright colors for a while. I think we are all starved to color--green grass and early flowers. Happy anniversary!
I have lost 12 pounds exactly so far, but don't feel that I have lost anything this week. Shall see tomorrow. Saturday morning at 8 o'clock. Can you believe it, but I wouldn't miss for anything. And I stay for every meeting.
Well, got to go. All of you, I really had personal responses to most of you, but can't rewrite that all again. I went out to find this new website that has so many restaurants with their points on their choices. You might already know about it---www.dwlz.com
You have to hit "restaurants", but it is an eye opener, for sure.
Glenda
Slavika: That recipe looks yummy! I get the email from WW to but I usually dont pay attention to it. Guess I should huh? WW came out with a new book to. Has recipes from Members Leaders and Rep's. Got it last night. Looks like some great recipes in it. Dont know if it is in your area but its called Winners Circle.
Maria: I thought it was stange that your DH would email me. That was my first clue as to deleted it Im always clean my virus checker runs non stop
Glenda: Congrats on the New Grand son! Love that name they picked out to. Bet it was great to watch! I love any kind of flower. Congrats on your loss! You are doing so good!
Hi everyone. I'm glad my virus checker (Norton) is constantly checking too. I seem to get at least one every day, sometimes two. How can you stop them?
Slavika: There are two parks here with the single-wide homes like you describe. They call ours a double wide. And all the homes here are like that. It is just all we need. We do have a very nice park, lots of trees, and flowers, and of course a lot of lovely people.
Glenda: Congrats on the new grandson. And how 'cool' that you got to see, and to hold him right away. I'm sure that won't be the last time you get peed on.
We have had a sad day today. One of our dear friends has been diagnosed with bone cancer. They come from England, and so their temporary insurance insists they go home, since they have gov. subsidy medical service. Today they were supposed to go, and they got to the airport, by ambulance, only to find that the plane wasn't equipped to take him in his condition. So they brought him back to the hospital, and now they have to go by ambulance to Miami to fly out from there and that is a 4 or 5 hour trip. What a big screw-up. It seems the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing.
I think I lost about 1lb. today, as I had my hair cut."D" It was so shaggy. It really looks quite nice now.
Guess it is time for bed. Hope to see tomorrow. I look forward to a Florida tea time. Ann
Glenda how gorgeous to be almost the first one to hold your new grandson. My dd said, when she witnessed her first birth, that she coudln't believe how emotional the whole experience was. She said she had a few tears in her eyes and she never knew the woman!!!
I like the name.
Well done on the loss, I have lost 9 lbs now and feeling so much better. I don't know why, but the ridiculous binge urges have disappeared.
I need to check out the website you posted.
Lily My dh is a friendly fellow but not quite that friendly to send emails to women he does not know.
Mind you having said that, he does feel that he know you all a bit as well and is looking forward to meeting you all.
Ann how sad about your friend , how long had they been in America? To have such an awful diagnoses and then to have to leave your home etc., it is just awful.
I also have my virus checker in the background but I still get it to scan my 'C' drive on demand when I get a bit concerned.
I just got a pohone call so I will go and take that........
Hi Everybody
We sure got a lot of rain today....even some thunder and it was very LOUD. That will help get rid of some of the dirty snow. Ann are the double wides shorter in length then the single ones but much wider? That is very sad about your friend having bone cancer and being so far from home. I have a cousin who has (had) bone cancer and last year he had a bone marrow transplant and is doing not too badly. He is in remission now. The cancer ate away part of his one thigh bone so he had to have an operation where they put in a metal plate to help support the bone that was left. He walks with a cane now but he was in a wheelchair in the beginning. He is 64 years old....and has been through a lot with that cancer but things are really looking up for him now. Glenda congrats on the arrival of your new grandbaby. I love the name Jackson too. I guess seeing your grandbaby being born is an experience that you will treasure forever.
I made the Weight Watcher Brownie recipe today. I haven't made it for such a long time and I don't know why because it is really good and pretty low in points. Lily and Maria I bought the Norton Antispam software today. I am sick of getting all that stupid spam in my mailbox. Some of it is really disgusting too!
Well gang, I guess that's my little bit of news. Talk to you all soon.......
After many weeks of glorious weather but no rain , we finally had some rain yesterday afternoon and last night . Our garden has an automatic water sprinkler system but nothing is as good as rain. Amazing how a down pour can transform the garden so quickly, everything looks greener and brighter this morning
Off to the podiatrist this morning and then home to pack the car for a very early start tomorrow morning to travel to Melbourne. We ended our daylight saving this weekend, nice to have that 'extra hour'. We will have the alarm set for 4 am and hope to get to Melbourne by early afternoon.
Slavika I am sure Lily will tell you the same but unfortunately there is very little you can do about spam. I would be interested to hear how you find the Norton antispam software, Norton being a well known and respected name in this type of software.
What I do to reduce spam is.........
I join up with many forums etc. etc., any that I suspect I will get spam from I give a hotmail address as my email address so all the spam goes there. I have about 4 hotmail addresses all under different names, I don't even bother to check any mail there and eventually hotmail just deletes the account when there has been no action on my part.
There is really very little spam I get at the address you all have. The weird emails at the moment I don't regard as spam so much but a twisted, sick attempt by virus makers to infect my computer.
I will call back later this afternoon before packing up my computer....
I don't know where the time goes. It is beautiful here. My daffodils are blooming like crazy. Have to go pick some and some sunshine inside.
Glenda congrats on the new grandson. Jackson must be the name of the moment. My friend had a new grandson and he also a Jackson. Been hearing that name a lot lately. I think he baptized you when he peed on you.
Slavika thanks for the chicken recipe. It sounds good and easy. I see you got a dowel. I just remembered when I was at a party in one of those million dollar homes in Michigan a few years ago that they had drapery treatments on PVC pipe. It was all covered and you would never know. It was a beautiful house-after being married for about 15 years and 2 boys the doctor decided he was gay. It was a sad thing.
Maria I have been getting some strange email too. I get so much spam in my yahoo account. I run Norton all the time. Interesting to hear how Slavika likes the Norton anti spam program.
I think Ann's park sounds wonderful and it has Ann. What more could you want. Those manufactured homes are really nice. I think they are bigger than my house.
Okay now I am getting serious about losing weight. Been playing around way too long. Summer will soon be here and I have to get rid of the spare tire.
Good morning all,
Just wanted you all to know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth just so much going on right now. I always check in so I know all of you are busy and all is going well for you. I will try and get back later today to write a real post.
Karen
Ann: Spam: Only way to stop them is get a new email address. But they will appear again. Dont know how they get the email addresses but they do. Sometimes they do get picked up from Forwarding emails.
So sorry to hear about your friend. What a shame that he has to take such a long trip to get back home
Maria: wow you are doing so good! 9 # is awesome! I do the same with the free emails. My Yahoo account must get at least 200 a day. They are pretty good about putting it in the bulk mail folder tho so I just empty it with out even looking. Really hate Spam. Should be a No spam list, like the no call list. Actually there was one but it doesnt work
Slavika: Let me know how that Norton Antispam works. I get alot of spam to. Sure do hit the delete button more than I read any mail
But I have 2 free email accounts that they go to. My ISP addy is safe as it has never been given to anyone except family.
Peggy: I agree those manufactured homes are very nice. I have seen several that are very nice. Some are huge! Just love daffodils. Mine already bloomed and died
Was DH Birthday this week end. I took him out to dinner. And we went for a very nice drive yesterday. was very Pretty. Stopped at one of those Indian Casino's to have lunch as there was no other place around. This place was as big as some one the ones in Las Vegas. DH said it makes about 6 million in a week. Just dont understand all the gambling I guess. Got better things to do with my money.
Hi Everybody: This has been a busy weekend. Our pastor of 18 years is leaving, yesterday was his last Sunday, so it was a special service, and then a reception afterwards for them. Our search team was in charge of the reception, and so I about ran my legs off, changing food plates, etc. I don't even know what I ate, as it was all on the run. A sort of bitter sweet day, as we do have a new Pastor coming May 1st. And it has all been a very positive process.
An up date on our friend. They spend 6-8 months at a time here from England. Then go back, maintaining their residence, see family etc, and then back again. They have been doing this for about 6 or 7 years. We have all become more like family to them and they consider this home. But because of the Socialized medicine, when there is a problem, they have to go home to England. They always have a separate insurance for emergencies and that is what is taking care of things now. They never did go to Miami, and are still here, having more Dr. conferences, etc. There is some thought that he may have a pinched nerve in the spine from the surgery, so we are hoping that they can get a second opinion from a neurosurgeon, who could maybe fix it. It is a very frustrating time for them both, and he has always been very active, and to just have to lay there is bad. And all these ambulances and flights etc. are quite costly for the Insurance co. And we all know they are about saving money.
Slavika: Our houses are wider that the ones you describe. But there is a connecting park to ours that are all what we call 'single side' mobile homes. We have friends who live there. They have some very nice units. Because some people call our homes 'trailers' that is why the idea of manufactured houses as a name came about. I can't think of anything more fun to have a Florida chapter of the feisty and Sexy gals.
Glenda and Maria: How great that you are have weight loss. I just seem to stay the same and that is not what I really want to do. Frustrating.
All your talk of daffodils makes me a bit nostalgic. I love daffodils and naricissus and all those lovely spring flowers. Of course they don't grow down here. But we do have other things to compensate.
Right now we are growing a pineapple. They do take a long time. The plant is on it's second year, but now we have a pineapple about the size of an orange coming. It has been a fun experience.
Lily: I'm with you on the gambling craze. And there are so many people who are as addicted to that as drugs and alcohol. and it destroys them. When we go on a cruise we take $20 each and just have fun on the slots. But if I win, I quit. This last time I came home $60 ahead. But that doesn't happen very often. More likely is to drop the $20 in just a few minutes and then we are done.
I have a dream. If we get all this clever group together in Fl. we can start our own craft shop. And those who aren't here, can send your contributions. Now how wild is this?
Marnie: You do quilts so quickly, that would be a great contribution. And no, I haven't been smoking any funny stuff!
Peggy: I think you should be the manager, since you have so much experience.
Karen: With all your experiece with bookkeeping with WW that would be a good job for you.
Trudy: Really - I'm not completely cuckoo. Just a little bit
