Hi, Turtles,

Kathy, enjoy your soup. I have some beans soaking and I'm makig soup later this morning. It really fills you up. It sounds like you have a really good plan going.

WOW, Lauren--2.5 pounds. That's so great. It looks like you might make your goal. You've really found how to work with your body over the years and you're getting to your goal.

Judy, thanks for the words of wisdom. They're needed and helpful. I'm hanging in there. And doing what I can about my circumstances. Keeping busy with my book, the forums I'm moderating, and occasionally some fun cooking. It's funny about that because my husband found a recipe he wants me to try, but my son wasn't impressed. So my husband said that it was OK. He would be gone in a few days and then I could cook it. I do cook more variety when the boys aren't here because they each like such different things that it's hard to find stuff the whole family will eat. But my dh is either more adventurous or less picky, I'm not sure which. He'll eat most anything as long as he doesn't have to cook it.

Hi, Erin and Alice! Hi, lurkers. Hope you all are doing well.

Happy turtlin! (That's such a fun smiley)

Hi, tortoises.

Cat is still sick; vet doesn't know what's wrong. I'm supposed to take her back in tomorrow if she still isn't better. On the bright side, all this worrying is causing me to drop weight like nobody's business -- and this morning I hit 179.5. So I'm in the 170s at last, by the skin of my teeth. Looks like I'll make my pre-vacation goal at my "official" weigh-in next Tuesday.

My friend is still with us; her car is in the shop and won't be done until tomorrow. So she'll probably leave in the afternoon, and our OTHER friends arrive in the evening. And I just got a ton of new work from the local university. So things are hopping, and I'm feeling in need of that vacation next week. But if the cat's not feeling better, I'm not sure what we'll do.

Anyway.

Lin, good for you on the walking. It really does help depression. That's part of my problem right now -- my visiting friend doesn't like to to walk. The ones arriving tomorrow do, though. I hope your PMS isn't as awful as last month's. That calcium sure makes a difference; this month I had no PMS at all. Amazing. I'm so grateful to you for giving me that tip.

Judy, three pounds is wonderful! Good for you! It's great to see you motivated and doing well and happy about it.

Kathy, I love soup season, and we're there again. Time to trot out those soups. I like to make a bean soup with some Healthy Choice (or other light) sausage. I let it simmer for hours. Very filling and good. I wish I lost weight better when I ate beans, but I don't seem to do as well with starchy foods. So I have to eat them moderately (rather than beans every day, like I do during Lent, for example).

Hope everyone has a great Thursday.

Onward and downward,

Lauren

Hi T's!

!! We are all doing great arn't we!!! Well I am doing my Curves greast..Actually the last 2 days I didn't count points. I ate ok untill we we had dinner. I ate more desert than I should. But today is a new day. I will strat my plan when I get hungry. Haven't miss a day at Curves this week, and I am proud of that. I will go to WW and official weigh in on SAt.

Dh will be gone this weekend to a meeting, so Iwil be home alone from Fri to Sun... Besides work, Curves and a bit of housecleaning, I am going to start on a work shirt. I bought tons of material last year to make shirts after I went to Hawaii. Have I made any???? No..I must have 10 pieces of material. I think I will make Dresses and shirts. Our boss just told us we need to dress more professional and if we dont, they may put us in a uniform, you know one with a blazer!!!Ick!!! So my plan is to kinda do my own uniform, find a shift type dress that I can make in colorful hawaiian material, and make an unlined jacket short or long sleeved that corisponds to the dress, (solid so i can use the jacket with different dresses) . They are very popular in the stores and I am sure you all have some. I usta like to sew for myself alot but quit when I started quilting. I don't make fancy things, just easy shirts, dresses, etc. I use to be real good when my kids were small. Grandkids, watch out!!!

Anyway, Lauren, could you give us your healthy choice bean soup receipe!!! It sounds something I would absolutetly love. I had a bean soup 2 years ago at a quilt retreat and totally fell in love with it. I like Healthy choice sausage. It is like one of my favorite things to eat , but I don't buy it..why??? the only store that has it in our town is Safeway. I don't go there much, but when I do, I buy it!!! it is such a treat....I just discovered boneless skinless chicken theighs..I usually buy breast, but at this one shopping spree chickent theighs were cheaper...i fell in love with the juicyness and the flavor of them..

Do you turtles have a menu that you go back to again and again??? Could you share it with me??? I don't know some times I get into the same mode and I forget how toget out of it...I got to get busy and read receipes but if you could give me an example of your favorite menu/...

WEll got to clean so I can go exercise..

Kathy

Of course, Kaylets! Wonderful to have you. Love the picture icon you're using.

A quick intro to me -- I live in Michigan, have a wonderful DH and two fur babies (cats), one of whom has been a tad sick lately which is why I've been losing weight more rapidly. I'm a chronic worrier. It's not one of my better traits. I'm a freelance writer, I guess, since I lost my job in the computer industry (usability specialist) more than a year ago. I currently write pieces for a local university (newsletter articles, mostly).

I've been on WW (more or less, sometimes less rather than more) for almost 4.5 years now. As of today, I've lost 95 pounds. That's 20+ pounds per year, which is good for me. (One of those years, I ended up where I started -- which I considered a victory for various reasons.) I tend to lose in spurts, though rarely more than a pound or so a week. The past few weeks have been unusual; I'm not sure what's going on.

I credit this little group with a very large portion of my weight loss success. I also read groups over at Dotti's Weight Loss Zone, which has also been extremely helpful. I love being with people who understand that this is not a quick fix, that this is a lifelong journey that never ends, and that losing slowly is just fine -- and maybe even the smart way to go.

I look forward to getting to you know you.

Kathy, I don't really have a recipe for the bean soup. Here are the general ingredients, though I tend to mix it up depending on what's on hand or how I feel:

-- Bag of mixed beans (dry kind -- you can find them in the soup section)
-- Chicken broth (rather than water)
-- Healthy Choice sausage (or other light sausage) cut up
-- Celery
-- Carrots
-- Onions
-- Canned tomatoes (usually diced)
-- Spices (bay leaves, sage, rosemary, savory, thyme, pepper, salt only if the canned veggies and broth don't have any)

That's pretty much it. I soak the beans a bit, do the quick soak sometimes (where you boil them for a bit then drain them). Then I throw all that stuff in and let them cook for a few hours, whatever it says on the bag of beans.

Hey, folks, I hit my Adirondacks goal today. I'm officially going to stop weighing myself until Tuesday now. Amazing what peanut butter and a bit of worrying can do for a person.

Onward and downward,

Lauren

Welcome Kaylets,
Of course there's room for one more. Move over gals! Good luck and I hope our group helps you a little.

I'm Judy. I'm sixty years old. Turn sixty-one this week. I teach second grade here in NY and I usually like it. I have a dh and three great kids. Last year I became a grandma for the first time and that same couple is expecting again in February. Life is good except for my excess weight. I weigh 224 right now, having just lost 4 pounds in the last couple of weeks. I tend to do real well for many days, then socialize too much, each out too much, etc. etc. And yes, I know you can point it all out, but sometimes I just want to eat a lot more than I can afford to.
I am enthusiastic about ww, knowing it's a lifetime lifestyle change. Right now I realize this socializing isn't helping me and I'm trying to curb it a little. I don't exercise any where near where I should, but I think about it a lot. LOL.
I find this group a Godsend because the gals all have great staying power, lots of good ideas, and lots of valid info.

Hope you stay with us.

Hey Miata,
I don't have menus per se, but I like making these things for a change and having them in the fridge or freezer for something different:

Impossible veggie pie
chili with beans
soup, all kinds
pork chops, a small potato, and mushrooms made into a creamy gravy w/ milk and a bit of flour
poached egg on lite Eng. muffin
oatmeal any time of day
chicken cutlet stir fry
can of tomatoes with green pepper, onion, garlic, mushrooms--then I add a bit of carb. and cheese--sometimes couscous, rice, or even pasta. Very easy and loads of veggies and I love the way it tastes.

Hope this helps a bit

Lauren,
For heavens sakes! You are fabulous! That's so great about hitting your goal in advance. You've gotten so close to goal.
I hope Kitty feels better so you can have your relaxing vacation.
Good vibes for you all.

Miata,
Enjoy making your dresses and jackets. I like to sew too, but clothes have gotten so cheap around here that it almost doesn't pay anymore. I love Hawaiian prints--pretty. Great going on your weight loss.

Mousie and lurkers,
Take care of yourself and when you're not too busy, chime in.
Love and good vibes,
Judy

Smile Introduction

Thanks for the welcome-

Let me give a brief introduction- This is the 2nd "trip" with WW's in two years, the 2nd began mid-May and I am now 1lb below my where I was before my detour. I have been married nearly 12 years,( two stepschildren, the eldest, married - the youngest, still at home but when they're 22 that could change by the morning).
I have two dogs that are mostly beagle and am a buddding birdwatcher. I recently started a new job because my firm bought another but decided to merge my division into another across country. I enjoy reading, auctions, and music is a very special passion. ( just listening ! )

My DH is diabetic so we are both following WW's online. He has seen great improvement since losing 60lbs and hopes to eliminate at least one more medication by losing more. He has found that unprocessed foods break down more slowly in his system and keep his blood sugars level which allows him to eat more bread, etc as long as its made with whole flours. And I've found that I can eat carbohydrates w/o craving more an hour later.

We try to experiment with 2 new foods a week to broaden our horizons and keep things interesting. Sometimes, its only to never try it again, other times it becomes a mainstay.

There's the short of it- I'll check in later

Hi Turtles..Welcome Kaylets..glad to have you!!

This is my story...I live in California, have a dh that I have been married to for 31 years. I am 49, I have two daughters, 1 married and going to nursing school and the other in the Airforce. I have two dogs and my passion lies along the quilting lines. I absolutely love it. I am doing weight watchers on the Liberty plan which means i only pay 13.00 when I go. I haven't been able to go in weeks but might go tomorrow. I need to get more dedicted to the eating program, I just joined Curves, the exercise place for woman ony. I am totally excited bout it. I have about 60 lbs to lose.

DH went to a meeting for the weekend so I have the weekend to myself which is kinda neat. This doesn't happen very much, and I am going to have fun. I am working this weekend but when not working I will prob be sewing. Got a great idea for a quilt...I am planning on eating well while he was gone and I told him he was not allowed to bring any sugary stuff into thehouse when he gets back. Told his friends too. No food that I don't want to eat will pass my threshold!!!

well going to go to bed, and get up early and strart having fun!!!..Kathy

Smile Sat noon

Hello all!

Slept in late this am, almost 3 hours later than usual- Evidently, needed the extra rest!

Scale looked very good this am but maybe its always a little lower around 8 am - usually am at work by then! - I only let the number be "official" on Monday's so we'll see then.

We are still enjoying the cooler weather - did some errands this am rather than this afternoon as we have tickets for Cirque Du Soleil in Philadelphia. We are excited as the tickets were bought months ago and we've never seen the show live before. We're even planning a late lunch so we aren't forced to buy something off program because we get too hungry.( Show starts at 4).

Spent sometime in the garden emptying every pot, bucket, foutain, crook and cranny that was holding water from the big storm. Won't have any mosquitoes breeding here! That's one thing cold weather will eliminate! Am hoping to spend sometime out there soon and cut down the sunflowers and put some bulbs in. DH looking to put a composter in before long - between garden clippings and our salad leftovers, we might wind up with "black gold."

Ooops, times up - Take care all!

Hi Turtles,

I haven't been here in a while. I am down .4 lb. this week...now it's 9.6 lbs. in 5 months. My Dr. thinks that is fine. I don't though!!!!!!!!!!. He said that when I go back in 6 months... I should be down another 9 or 10 lbs.

I am hanging in there & am journalling my food.

Hi Turtles, I made it to the weekend! PHIEW!

I spent 3 hours in the Anatomy lab yesterday, whiew, that's a lot of memorizing. Fascinating, but a lot of memorizing! Kathy, has your nursing school daughter been through it yet? If not, tell her to grit her teeth, buckle down, and hold on!

Welcome, Kaylets. Turtles always love to welcome more people to our fold. We're been plodding along for years now, and we're a tight, close group.

I'm Erin, and I'm the youngest of the bunch. I'm 27, and I've been married to my Englishman for about 1.5 years (our 2nd anniversary is in February). No kids yet, thank the heavens! No pets, either (well, do fish count?). I'm studying full time at San Diego State University, working on a pre-physical therapy degree. I should graduate next year (YAY!) and plan to go on to earn a Master's in Physical Therapy. Having been through a dramatic car accident myself, my passion is health and fitness, and I want to help other people get better, too.

I'm always at the gym, I love to work out. I'm working with a sports nutritionist right now instead of doing WW (I was on WW for a couple of years, but I exercise so much that it stopped working for my body). I finally feel healthy and energetic again, so I'm liking my nutrition plan!

April, bits and bits and it'll come off! Keep your eyes on the prize. Wanna trade me, your results for mine?

Lauren, WOOHOO! You made it! I'm so sorry your kitty isn't well, but I'm glad that you were able to make your goal. Keep us posted about the kitty, okay?

Kathy, I'm so glad you found a gym that works for you. It sounds like it's the perfect match, too. A friend of mine went to Curves, and her mom got into it, too. I'm happy for you.

Judy, can you share the recipe for "Impossible veggie pie"? If I ask real nice? And smile sweet?

Lin, I've noticed that my parents, as well, eat much more sophisticated food when none of us are around--salmon with fresh sauteed veggies and multigrain rolls, chicken marinated in spices and served over jasmine rice with veggies, that sort of thing. Who knew? I guess my palate's just not sophisticated yet, I still prefer simple foods.

I need to work on my anatomy, I'll see you later, Turtles!

I am sending a post to this forum because I couldn't get into another one. I should would like to turtle and not gain weight. I hardly ever turtle. I think I did twice in almost 3 years with TOPS. I mostly go up two weeks in a row and then come down a little the third week. I hope this counts as a post!

Hello ladies,

Do you mind if I join in your group? I definitely qualify as a turtle. Except lately, I think its more like a paralyzed turtle as I've been stuck at the same point for a long time. I've been posting on another thread for about two years but unfortunately its dying down. I'm looking for renewed motivation and friends so that I don't quit.

A little about myself: I'm 42, married (4th anniversary in Oct), no kids except for grown stepkids unless you count two big dogs and a horse. I've been overweight for all of my adult life. Its mostly due to stress eating, boredom eating or just plain foolish eating.

I've been trying to follow WW for several years and while I have not made a lot of progress, it has kept me from getting heavier. Following WW is a challenge because DH doesn't want to and chooses to act like I'm speaking in Japenese. He needs to lose weight too but he likes to eat and refuses to think differently. Its a struggle sometimes and unfortunately somedays I give in to the struggle and eat with him.

Also, I don't seem to lose weight without exercise and lots of it. I usually get up in the mornings and do about 25 mins of hand weights, situps, leg exercises and the like in the effort to build muscles. I have found that it helps my lower back and hips (areas that I am having more and more pain). I'm trying to work more cardio exercise into my routine by using indoor equipment, bike riding or dog walking. I'll get a good routine going and then poof, all of a sudden I can't get myself to be anything but a slug. So I'm trying really hard to stick with it this time.

I look forward to meeting new friends and getting past the paralyzed turtle stage.

April,
That's why there is this turtle group! You are doing great. Believe me, you really are. Don't worry about what you haven't lost. Think of how carrying around those ten extra pounds were a strain on your body. You are going in the right direction. Don't give up. Keep on doing what you're doing. Time goes so fast.
Look at Lauren's history to see a turtle who's reaching goal by staying with the race!
Erin,
I'd be glad to give you the recipe: It'll make my post real long, so I won't write much else.
Just want to welcome the other gals. We love to have new turtles and offer hope to all who want to be here.
I've done great this weekend. Had a happy friday night dinner, but didn't go hog wild. Then had friends over for Sat. night. Again, I ate well. This morning I did not pig out over the leftovers and even made a lettuce soup when I started getting hungry.
So for now, I'm on a roll.

Here's the Impossible Veggie Pie I promised.
1 box froz. chopped broccoli, thawed but not cooked (I use any veggie I feel like and they're all good)
1/3 c. chopped onion
1/3 c. chopped green or red bell pepper
1 c. shredded lite cheddar cheese (4 oz) or any lite shredded cheese.
1/2 cup LF Bisquik
1 c. skim milk
1/2t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1/2 c. egg beaters ( or 3 egg whites)

Preheat oven to 400F. Spray 9inch pie plate with Pam. Stir together thawed broccol, onion, bell pepper and cheese and pour into pie plate. Stir remaining ingred. until blended. Pour over veggies in pie plate. Bake 35 to 40 min. or until golden brown and knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 min.
Serves 6 Points 2-3/serving
I have frozen this in serving sizes and carry it to lunch to microwave reheat. I'm not especially fussy, so I think that works fine.
Good luck. Hope you like it

To Lauren, hope your trip is fun-filled.
To Lin, great to hear about your book.
To Miata, great to see your bio again.

Hey, just a reminder of something I did that worked for me. I went through 3fatchicks.com recipes and printed out the ones that appealed to me. Then I checked out other LF sites for recipes--plus my favorites from WW. I assembled them in a 3-ring looseleaf. I haven't tried them all yet, but there are some real keepers in there.
Good luck to us all--keep on keepin' on.
Judy
