I really prefer the Fitbit One, although it won't give you everything you requested.
I love my Fitbit and it's been a big part of my weight loss. Whatever you choose, good luck and hope it's helpful.

I originally had the Ultra, and I liked it but the outer casing broke. When I got my refund, I chose the One, which I think is a newer version, and after using it a few months it seems better protected. It has a little rubber casing to protect it. Fitbit must have got tired of replacing broken Ultras

- a wristband

No, the One is a clip on like the Ultra. The Flex is a wristband, but I agree with movielover, I would find a wristband irritating. The One (or Ultra) is so tiny an unnoticable clipped to your waistband (or in your pocket).

- waterproof

None of them are waterproof, but they are water resistant (survives rain or sweat). I will say I dropped my ultra in the toilet (yuck! ) and it apparently survived the experience, but I wouldn't chance it. I've heard forgetting to unclip your one or ultra before sticking your pants in the washer is a common tragedy, but if you use it for sleep tracking this shouldn't happen, because you'll always unclip it for that.

- will tell me how far I've walked/run based on my stride

Yes. The one has a default stride setting based on your height, but you can easily adjust it online if you have a particularly long or short stride. There are different settings for walking and running.

- pace

Maybe. It's recording every step at exactly what time. So you can see charts of how "active" you were with a step count during a particular hour for instance. But I'm not sure if the particular # you're looking for can be found for a custom period. May be a feature I've never used.

- calories burned

Yes

- will link to my iphone and LoseIt

Yes to iphone. LoseIt supposedly too, but I've never tried it.

Thank you so much! I'm now leaning towards the Ultra. I think wearing something on my wrist all the time might cramp my style lol especially since it doesn't even have a display so what's the point?

I used to have an Omron pedometer and I had no problem with clipping it on to my waist or keeping it in my pocket. It even worked in my purse!! will the fitbit work in my purse?

So basically it's a fancy pedometer.

The great thing about the iSmoothRun app on my iphone is that it uses GPS to track my distance - however it also tracks the altitude so the hills I go up are also measured into my calories burned. The bad thing is that it's an iphone so it's not doable to cart around all the freaking time when I walk around the house.

I am not sure what the ultra does that the one doesn't do, but the One is pretty cool and you can get it for cheaper now!

I have the one. I almost always wear clothes with a pocket so I put it in my pocket. I like being able to pull it out and see the display.

DH just got the Flex. It is nice and in some ways more convenient since he can wear it night while I have to put the One in the wristband which is kind of a pain. He doesn't care that he can't just look at the display as he doesn't look at his numbers a zillion times a day.

The One and Flex will wirelessly sync with an iPhone. I don't have an IPhone but I do have an iPad and it wirelessly syncs with it. That is nice but the information you get from the app isn't as full featured as what you get on the website. Still it does show things like steps, calories burned, so it is good enough for just casual checking.

The One has the thing to measure how many flights of stairs you've climbed. I have a one story house so not very important to me. However, the Flex doesn't have that if it is important to you.

The Flex is kind of bulky and the band is stiff. It doesn't bother DH but I could see some people not liking it.

On the other hand, if I wear something that doesn't have a pocket then I have to clip on the One which I don't like while DH just wears his Flex all the time.

If I understand it correctly, the Ultra is being replaced by the One. The One is basically an updated version of the Ultra where they have worked out the kinks. The Ultra was less resistant to water, cracked easily because of the design, didn't have silent alarms and wouldn't synch through iphone/ipad bluetooth. It had to be through wi-fi, IIRC. I had both and when my Ultra cracked, Fitbit replaced it for free with a One.

Hello there -

I am looking into all the different Fitbits right now and am going for the ONE.

One question though: Are there any runners here? Do u bring it and does it work accurately? I use a Garmin watch but was wondering if I could just throw the fitbit in my fanny pack. The calories for the day must be off if I don't bring it.

I'm a runner and I train with Suunto watches now, but I used to train with Garmin's... I just clip my FitBit to my running shorts, not sure what putting it in a fanny pack would do as far as its accuracy is concerned... but you could always send of an email to FitBit support and see what they have to say...

I have the fitbit one. I never take mine off except to shower. I wear it on my bra and I find it to be very accurate. I have several friends and family and we are all friends and every so often we do challenges to see who is going to climb the most flights of stairs burn the most calories etc. for the month. It motivates me to do more to get more steps in than everyone else.

If any one wants to add me I am listed under http://www.fitbit.com/user/22HV5B

I have the Flex and I love it to death, but I do think I should have researched other bands (Jawbone Up and FuelBand) more thoroughly WHAT they track as opposed to Flex, which does tell me calories burned and active minutes but in a pedometer kind of way.
