Default Thin4Life - Week of April 8, 2002

Good morning everyone!

Well, it appears as if Spring has finally sprung here! The temps are supposed to be in the high 50's mid 60's this week...woohoo! My daffodils are blooming and the lilac bushes are budding...I love this time of year. We changed our clocks (sprung forward an hour) on Saturday night and this morning was really difficult getting up. I need to get myself to bed a little earlier tonight.

Weekend was a tough one eating wise...Saturday I went overboard on some chips and just munching in general. A good thing though was that I went to the Rec Center with a friend and walked for an hour.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Good morning Melissa and everyone else. It's a beautiful morning here - not a cloud in the sky. We're seeing more and more things sprouting from the ground, the trees are in full bud - and the time changed on Saturday so there's more sunlight. All's well with the world.

I had a great weekend. Thanks to the flylady, got two rooms cleaned and my kitchen sink is still shining. Also picked up some paint samples - DH and I need to put our heads together over them this week and try to make a decision

Got out for a great run yesterday morning - 40 minutes. Eating continues to be out of control, but at least I'm burning some of it off. Weight still up around 148 - that's over goal by a pound and four over my comfort zone. But today's another day, right?

Whazz up with youse??

Hi everyone,

yeah, i am so glad about spring. It's not particularly warm, but the bulbs & trees are blooming, birds tweeting their heads off - so it's okay with me. Spent quite a good bit of time digging in the dirt and pulling weeds over the weekend. very satisfying.

I think (knock on wood, fingers crossed, etc.) that the eating within points thing is back on track. KNOCK ON WOOD! Need to lose 5# to get back to goal. Oy!

Hi everyone!

Its sunny and not so warm here, but outstanding for bulbs, drying laundry outside, pulling weeds and spreading manure. So, why am I stuck in an office all day?

Anyhoo, we had a nice weekend. Spent too much money on Friday on a pair of sandals, walked around downtown seattle, met some people from my other obsession (flying) and ate pretty sensibly.

Did tons of gardening, went to two plant sales , chores, flyladied bags of stuff from previous trips (receipts, junk), entertained a 2yo child (tiring) and worked out this weekend.

Made a nice bread pudding from stale hot cross buns that was pretty good too. You could even make it more points friendly by using egg beaters.

No real excitement here this week. Lots of work to finish.

I got a postcard in the mail from my WW leader. He must miss me.

Enjoy those bulbs, lilacs and dogwoods are next! Our peach and cherry trees are blooming. Quite striking. Maybe this year we'll get a nice crop.

Hi there! Sounds like everyone is really enjoying the spring weather! It's lovely here today; wildflowers everywhere, and the oaks are bright green. Just wish we'd have more rain; it flooded a bit north of us when the storms came through, and we got less than half an inch!

Dh and I went to a Cajun festival after WW on Saturday, and I went over points, but maybe danced off a few calories; anyway, it was lots of fun. He lost over 2 pounds at WW, and I lost .4, but am still just barely under my WW goal and nowhere near my personal one. I have to get going on this! Did well all week, and blew it on the weekend. Oh well, this week is off to a good start, anyway. Maybe I can bank some points for next weekend!

Everyone have a great Tuesday!

Happy "Hump" Day!

The weather is beautiful here today...sunny and cool but at least the rain is gone. Yesterday started out pretty warm (67) and then by the time I left work it was 40! Anyway, I'll take the sun and the forecast for the rest of the week is sunny and warmer (50-60's)...perfect spring weather. I was actually able to get to work a little early today so I was able to get a 15-minute walk in before I started...I enjoyed it. I love hearing the birds chirping in the morning.

Susan: My eating was out of control before as well and now it seems as if I'm back on track. I do so much better when I don't have the "extras" around the house to tempt me. Thank goodness the Easter candy is gone!

Lala: Thanks for the info on the Flylady! I love her philosophy. I've done the sink and now I'm finding I'm a little obsessed with the fact that no one keeps it clean, lol. Now to move to another section of the house.

Laurel: Glad to hear you're back on track! It feels good doesn't it? I remember how frustrated I was getting back in December/January when my weight was up at the top and over my range...ugh! Anyway, it's back down and I'm in my comfort zone and working toward my personal goal.

Janet: The festival sounds fun! Weekends are always a challenge for me...I tend to eat lower during the week so I have points to use for the weekend...this has worked for me throughout my WW journey. Planning is key for me, although I have weekends where my plan just goes out the door

I'm really working to staying on track because I'm going to Florida in May. Only 30 days to go...woohoo! I'm going down for a week to visit my best friend and spend some time with her. I need to make sure I have room to play with because we'll be visiting tea rooms...yum! Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey Patch: Where are you??? Hope everything is going okay...we miss you here!

Hi everyone!

Ah, the weather is rather seattle like, sunny for a bit and then cloudy and drizzly. I'll take it as long as it stays above freezing. I have seeds to plant!

melissa- I'm so liking the fly lady thing, but I can tell you, I'm certainly not giving up my housecleaner for love nor money. I hate bathroom cleaning and mopping.

I too am trying to remind DP that keeping the sink clear is a good thing. Can you train a mid-40 yo person that it takes a micron more energy to open the dishwasher and put the glass in it rather than leave it on the counter.

laurel- I understand the getting back on track thing too. Last October I was about 5 lbs more than I am now, I am about 10.5 lbs from goal and getting cranky. I have upped my workouts and trying to shake things up hoping it will help.

I can tell you my clothes are definitely looser than they were last year and that is a bonus. However, I buy pretty spendy things, so either I have to have them tailored or I look for a consignment place. Note to self: think target not facconable for the next six months

susan- Good on ya for going out there and running. I have been really lazy in the running department. I'm going to have to hit the track some evening.

janet- gosh, you must be into seattle summer temps by now! I love cajun food and I could have happily eaten my way through the weekend too!

hope everyone is having a great humpday!

Hi folks. Now for the weather from the east coast - rained all morning but it's clearing up and we're supposed to have warmer temps and sunshine heading into the weekend.

Melissa and lala: Ditto on the clean sink thing. DH was rather curious when he saw me scrubbing and looked a little nervous when I told him there was a "new rule" about the sink. No need, he pays no attention to my rules whatsoever I admit it's kinda hard not to get obsessive about it once you get started. How did I leave it grungy for so long? (lala - I'm not giving up my housecleaner either.. I'm not that enthralled with this flylady stuff.

Janet: It's hard for me not to be too envious of your weather. I have to keep reminding myself that I wouldn't feel the same way in the dead of summer when things are frying. I have a tendency to get cranky when it's too warm. But I am anxious for the risk of frost to be gone and to get down to some serious planting.

Kudos laurel for getting back on track. I took a crucial step yesterday - piled all of the junk food into a bag and asked DH to hide it, take it to work, anything, until I regain control. Normally it doesn't bother me but lately, I don't want to eat anything but calorie-laden goodies. Not good.

I've started half-marathon training on my own. I may not run in an actual official race, but I needed a goal, so bought a book at The Running Room and decided to follow the training for the next four months. The schedule is actually quite reasonable if your goal is "to finish upright and smiling." I'll keep you posted.

TOM hit with a vengeance today. That may explain why my back has been aching and I've been more than a little emotional with DH. I'll have to do something nice for him this weekend; I've been a bit of a b***h, I'm afraid...

Okay, here's a pretty picture. As I am sitting here reading the latest posts DH is putting (small) spoons (well, only 2) of icecream into my mouth. What a combo.

Hey, I wanna a cleaning lady!!!! Wah! Wah! Wah!!!! Came home to cat hair up to the knees and actually pulled out the vacuum cleaner. This is not pleasant, people.

Okay, now out into the garden. Gotta love that DST.

Laurel: I don't have a cleaning lady either...I'm it

I have to admit I like having it light out later in the day, it's not quite so bad getting out of work now. The winter days were hard...go to work in the dark, get out in the dark. I love Spring!

Went to my meeting today...my regular leader has been on vacation the past 2 weeks and is sorely missed. I'll be glad to have her back next week. She's a regular ball of fire and has a lot of energy. Happy to report I'm down .8 this week (137.4) which brings me a bit closer to my personal goal of 135. I'd love to get to this before my trip south but we'll see.

hi everyone!

melissa- you go girl! good on ya for losing! you'll be in ready for florida before you know it!

laurel- with jacques and roya and a house cleaner (domestic diety) - I still vacuum about 3 times a week. Its easier on my psyche and Jacques and I bay together at the vacuum. Its a bonding experience. Lets not talk about dp and dh and their desire to bond with us using food - can we say "chocolate chip cookies are not the way to lala's heart right now- how about you take out the trash". sigh.

doing pretty well on the eating and exercising fronts these days. Did some shopping through my closet and I have lots of ann taylor (run small) pants that I haven't been able to get into since gosh knows when. They fit and are side zip black pants, so they can be capried or kept at their regular length. They are a bit baggy in the hips and butt, so I'll see what my mom's tailor can do.

Lots to do and DP and I are going to discuss proposal writing while walking jacques here at work. At least we can count it as work and activity points!

Happy Friday everyone! It's been a busy week and tomorrow it will be just as busy for me. I'm working at WW tomorrow morning (7:15 a.m.) and following there have to pick up my son from soccer practice then head to the rugby field to watch my hubby play. Busy, busy, busy.

I ordered some muffins from Vitalicious and they arrived last evening. I'm anxious to give them a try as several members at my Wednesday meeting have had them and say they're good. I got the Apple Berry Bran and the Cran Bran. I brought one for my afternoon snack. A half of one of these muffins is a serving and it would be 1 point and for a whole muffin it's 3. Anyway, we'll see how they taste.

My daffodils are in full bloom...yesterday we hit 78 which is unseasonably warm for us...today is more Spring-like (67) and tomorrow it's supposed to cool down to the low 60's. I'm not going to complain because the temps could stay here for the summer and I'd be happy.

Hope everyone is doing well!

hi all-
i hope we all have a good weekend. I will be spending a good couple of hours each day at work. Sigh.

however, if we had weather like melissa, I would reconsider it.

Off to hit the pizza dough and consider a bit of slug tossing.

Default Thank you for the FlyLady

Dear Maintainers,

I was lurking on your thread to discover life changes to make the kind of achievment you share. I didn't intend to write in since I have over 100 lbs. to lose and tomorrow is only my 2nd weigh-in.

But I want to thank you for posting what you are doing publicly. It gave me a vision.

Once I stopped anesthetizing myself with food, I looked around and panicked at the chaos around me. I was despairing about how to get a grip on my LIFE that seemed out of control (work is OK, but my home is a wreck ) I didn't want to overeat, but what do I do with the feelings of being overwhelmed in the meantime?

You mentioned the FlyLady.

Well, I signed up. I have a SHINING sink. My children (who are young enough to do what they are told-- 6 and 8) put dishes in the dishwasher. DH does it at least 50% of the time. My kitchen is beautiful. I am doing the boogie, big time. Today I took off from work and carted out over 12 large garbage bags of junk. And her many notes are so encouraging and help to soothe away the waves of panic I am feeling (not being numb and unaccomstomed to the way life feels, I guess!).

Her tag line fits where I am in WW, too. "You are not behind! I don't want you to try to catch up; I just want you to jump in where we are. O.K.?" So I am doing what I'm told, a day at a time, counting points, exercising, and being a flybaby as well. I am very proud. And grateful to you for giving me a vision.

Hi there Gail and welcome to the club! Doesn't matter if you have 100 or 5 to lose, the basic feelings underneath it all are very similar, I think.

Now, I haven't read about FlyLady (will she come to my house and clean it??).

Good luck to you, just keep on going and little by little you will achieve your goal!
