Aphil I love KS, but I know how it is to be irritated at mannerisms on a video. You should check out her vol. 2 LWTLW -- it's more, um, sedate, and the exercises are very innovative. Also, the Secrets of a Great Body series is VERY low-key.

Re Videos: The advice you've gotten so far is good....Margaret Richards is terrific for beginning lifters, as is Kathy Smith. Richards tapes are expensive however. You can find them at The Body Electric Website...they're not in the stores. I've found Kathy Smith's tapes at Target. Tammilee Webb's "I want those arms" "I want those abs" and "I want those legs" series, are really good; they consist of short segments of lifting (starting with a basic 15 minute setand then getting harder with a second set). Cathe Friedrich is a great instructor--you can find her tapes on line, but she's tough, and generally not geared for a beginner. I don't like Joyce Vedral...and I've heard the same complaint from many others, that her form is poor.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the good advice everyone. Hubby came home with one 5lb barbell(he didnt think i would need 2 i guess lol). So, until I can get back to the store, I will use that one and just alternate hands. i am going to print the barbell exercises off of that website you recommended and start with those until I buy a dvd. I saw the lifting for dummies one the other day but didnt buy it because i didnt know if it was any good,..lol
