That is awesome JC... I'd love to have a new one. Maybe this year I'll be able to get one. The one I'm using now is a used one I got cheap from an ex-coworker. It suffices, but I'd sure like a nicer one! Have fun!

JEC 02-17-2004 07:27 PM

OMG I will probably do cardio twice a day for the next week at this rate of excitement!

JC, you're going to turn into the treadmill :queen: Funny how things look so much bigger once you get them in your place. Have fun with it.

This seems to be a board of shorties- oops! vertically challenged folks. Anybody taller than 5'4"? I'm a towering 5'3" and yes, I do seem to take 2 strides for every 1 that the person next to me on a treadmill takes. I wonder if that's figured somehow into the calories expended display at the end of the workout. Probably not :?: So maybe there should be a multiplier to factor stride length.

Hi Miss Chris  Glad you are back to lifting. Doesn't sound like you lost much strength. Are you lopsided?

Tik- Glad you didn't bash your dd over the head with the bat. And Congrats on the suit and heels. I can't remember the last time I wore a suit and heels :yikes: Dh and I were joking last night that once of the great things about my new job is the cheap wardrobe.

Dip- I used to take melatonin regularly to sleep but had to stop because of the horrible nightmares I started having. At first I just had very vivid dreams, but they got scarier and scarier. Just don't take it for too long.

Did long moderate cardio today. Anything else jars my shoulder too much and it's still really painful. Doesn't feel like much of a workout. Oh well, legs tomorrow so I'll feel like a real lifter again.

off to eat, then pass out :faint:

Mel: Sorry to hear that your shoulder is still sore - it isn't your rotator cuff is it?

Question for everyone - I did take my pulse rate last night on the new treadmill before I started walking and it read 51 beats per minute? Is that possible? It seems awfully slower than normal?

JC

JEC 02-17-2004 09:21 PM

Another question - does anyone know much about herbs? There are herbs etc in my new liquid multi vitamin stuff and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them? They are:

Oats (Avena sativa), Gentian (Gentiana lutea), Globe Artichoke (Cynara scolymus), Nettle (Urtica dioica), Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea), Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus), Hawthorn Berry (Gratageus monogyna), Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosis), Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

Thanks in advance,
JC

Hey, who you calling shortie! I'm 5'4.5"!

Dip - I usually only take 1/2 a melatonin at a time - they break in half pretty easily, and I never have issues with being groggy in the morning. And, I'm usually taking them because I can't sleep, so it's usually pretty late at that point.

JC - congrats on your treadmill - what a nice early surprise!

Guess I should read all the posts before I post. JC, it's entirely possible that your resting heart rate is at 51 - I reduced mine from 62 to 56 in the first 6 months of working out last year.

Hey JC, congrats on your new machine!!! I got one at christmas and I'm loving it. I have recently lost 1/4 inch around my calf and I attribute it to the tread. I am pretty tall compared to some of your folks. I am 5' 7 1/2". Still groovin' on my new routine, I got a new set of yoga tapes today that I'm anxious to try.

JEC 02-17-2004 10:31 PM

OMG I would kill to be your height ledom! My sister is 5'8 1/2" and she is perfect to me!

Hey, Everybody!

Sorry I went MIA yesterday but had so much to do, then study and the dreaded Incomce Tax. And I regret to say I was not walking the talk. I didn't even do cardio because dumb-as* me waited to do it in the evening, and was too tired. I also succumbed to a type of food (won't say what) that I never should have touched because one wasn't enough, and I didn't stop at 8. Lightbulb moment is that I have to avoid the stores again as much as possible. My weakness is getting the best of me, and since I'm still a little stressed, it's too easy to give in.

Tika - I didn't realize you are one of those cute little things. Maybe my legs aren't *that* short, but it's just the shortness of my stride which I try to lengthen when walking fast on the tread. And push off with the ball of my feet to pump up the calves.

JC - you're a shorty too! I always I wanted to be shorter. Why is it we want what we aren't? Girl, you are going to love that treadmill, and once you get used to looking at it, it will be just like another piece of furniture. Mine is in the LR, and I don't care what it looks like in there. If I get a chance later, I will post a photo of the view I have from my tread in our album. I'm not sure what my resting heart rate is presently because I don't think the electronics on my tread are all that accurate, but if I think about it, I can go down and compare it to the heart rate monitor on my bike. And sorry, no I don't know anything about herbs, not enough to comment on those in your new vitamins.

I've been wanting a new treadmill, and now I want one more! When I see them in the stores, I actually go up and touch them - same for new benches and cable outfits.

Ilene - WOW, sounds like you are 'one hot mama.' I didn't know you had restless leg syndrome - that has got to be the pits. Poor baby. I like the room very cool too but with a big fat quilt and top sheet. DH throws off much heat, and the poodles surround me like cord wood, so when the body heat flashes, I'm pushing everybody off.

Cindy - Thanks for the tip - I didn't think of just taking half, but will next time.

Melissa - hope your wisdom teeth extractions aren't too painful. Might be bad for a day or 2, but sure hope you heal fast and get back to yourself real quick!

Raven - I will check out that website, sounds neat. I got this training schedule out of one my mags, either Energy or Muscle Media. I subscribe to both.

Elasky - hope the baby doesn't get sick and is better today.

Mel - I need some encouragement. I had no idea that this course of study was going to involve so much physiology and it is all greek to me. I've had to take the route of writing words 20 times each, then the definitions, and then read the chapter, and do the review questions at the end of the chapter. It is going very slow, and I am so glad I'm giving myself 6 months before the test. What's really weird is that I have had to relearn to write again! I have used a computer for so many years for everything that my penmanship had become so slipshod, I couldn't read my own notes. But once I sit down and start, and I don't want to stop until my head is bobbing and I'm nodding off.

Hi Meg, Mrs. J, ledom (you go girl - ready to kayak yet?), Tidey, Chris, Klop and all! I need to get busy and hope to be able to check in later. Another one of those days ahead and I need to get started.

Have a great day - and be careful out there.

ledom 02-18-2004 06:56 AM

Sooooo.....ready to kayak. When are you going to get your boat back in the water Ms. Dip? It is going to be 65 and sunny here on Th., alas I must work, otherwise I think I'd be out there.
