JC - Ledom also posts on the Prevention Millenium Diet thread and that's where I found out about her kitty.
OH wanted to give you the info on the special GetLean price. To get the 'special' price ($60 vs. $80) you need to be a member of the Lean Body Coaching Club. Basically that means you go to the Labrada Site and 'join' the club. It doesn't cost anything - you just get a weekly email from Labrada - sometimes there's even good info in there. But that's how you get the discount on GetLean (although I still can't get myself to pay $60...now if it was $30 I'd have bought it in a minute!).
Virginia - this is a TOUGH TIME of year. Just take it one day - one meal - at a time. MY toughest time is at night after work. I really have to fight the urge to eat! Ultimately what I have had to do is not log into the Internet after 7 pm - our home office is in the breakfast nook of our kitchen...too darn close to the fridge, but the only place we can fit it.
Well I managed to survive the company pigfest yesterday...still drinking the bottled water that I grabbed though but now in our kitchen is a ton of food...one of our other departments on this floor has an annual potluck lunch and all the leftover stuff is in there now. AACKK! Stay away...back, Satan!!!
I am really not feeling well again...so i missed a work out today...i am hoping to make it up this weekend..I did go to the doctor today and i have some sort of virus...and my throat is sore, my chest is sore, i cough...and oh ya..i broke out in a very itchy rash all over my neck and arms...and down my chest...so the doctor told me to take some anti-histamine and some tylenol and sleep....so its kinda sucks...but that's life..i just really hate missing a work out..
thanks for your comforting words. Yes, JC, it has been a sad day in my house - we lost one of our cats to ... who knows. I found him today after he'd been missing for 5 days. It has really been stressful. It is a small comfort to know his fate because we were still waiting for him to come back home. Anyway, life goes on. We'll regroup and not feel so sad as some time goes by.
OSC - sorry to hear that you are feeling ill. Rest up and get plenty of water so you can come back stronger than ever!
Ledom - I am sooo sooo sorry. I have two Beagles myself and would just DIE if anything happened to them. Pets often become surrogate children and so when they are lost it is heart breaking. My thoughts are with you.
We had to put down our rescue Golden in the summer. We had him for only two years (rescued as a senior). And man! he was the best dog they ever made. We tried to save him with leg amputation surgery, but the cancer had spread too much so...... a very difficult decision. I have never cried so much. We had Murray cremated; his urn is on a shelf. We wanted to bury him in the shade hole he dug for himself in the yard, but we are renters. I miss him still.
You and Dd must be really hurting now, and nothing I can say will ameliorate that, but, it is as it should be. I am sorry that your last memory of RM was probably not a pleasant one, but I think it is a good thing that you, at least, have closure.
Ledom- Let me add my condolences, too. We lost our Burmese cat (another rescue sweetie) about 6 weeks ago, suddenly. I still think I see her around corners in the house, and miss her purring next to me. I'm so sorry for you. My dog is still looking for her. It is so hard to lose a pet.
OSC- Hang tough! This is such a stressful time of year, getting sick doesn't help either. I'm finding that the gym is what's keeping me sane.
Karen- Stay away from that hoard of temptation in yur house! You REALLY don't want it! I know I wish I had. Now fighting last week's 3 pound gain, and it sure wasn't muscle. The pans-o-meter doesn't lie.
I found out yesterday that I've been given a mandatory 3 week vacation. So life is a little less stressful as of tis morning, except for the fact that I had counted on being paid!!!! The funniest thing was that after my boss told me, she seriously asked if it would have any impact on when my current project would be done. Since I was planning on working except for Christmas and Boxing Day (day after Christmas) and my deadline for rolling out the new web-site was 1/15, I think there's gonna be an impact. I went to the gym right after, and was talking to the head trainer about it- he told me if I got certified, he needs to hire new trainer around March and I should think about it. He has no "older women" (as he politely put it) trainers and thinks he's missing a big chunk of business with 40-60 yr old women who are intimidated by male bodybuilders or cute 22year old girls who don't relate well at all. I'm seriously thinking about this and looking at various cert. programs.
I appreciate your kind thoughts. It is amazing how our pets become such an important part of our lives. Their companionship, their quirky personalities become such an important part of every day. I so understand how all of you feel about your "babies".
Well, here is a story. You know, tomorrow is my last day of the 12 wk challenge? I went to buy groceries yesterday and without really thinking about what I would be able to eat after tomorrow w/ a free concience I stocked up w/ 6 cartons of CC. Couldn't pass up the sale (2 for $3), but truthfully I wasn't even thinking about eating any other way. Well, that isn't really true, when I passed the pistachios and banana chips I thought to myself, that will be my treat food this week. It just struck me this morning, hey I have all this CC and that is a good thing.
OSC, so sorry you are under the weather. Try not to worry too much about what you "ought" to be doing and just get well.
Virginia, hang in there, you can do it.
Mel, now that sounds like an opportunity that you would be great at. Sounds as if you have a good attitude about things too, but jeeze louise w/ that supervisor. Give me a break!
What a nasty week or actually 2 weeks! UG. Husband's schedule got changed last minute (co-worker got kicked by a horse and broke his hip! Yowch!) so Mike had to go into work on his vacation which means every single business meeting I had scheduled had to be changed. No one wants to reschedule next week (Christmas) or the week after (New Years), so I have to wait until the New Year. Needless to say, I am getting nothing done for the next few weeks. HEY! This is a great time to get caught up on laundry, cleaning the house, cleaning car, laundry, and did I mention laundry!
I actually have been really stressed about all these last minute changes, so I have been eating not so very clean! But, just writing this had made me more relaxed about the whole thing. Thanks, you guys are great!
Ledom - So very very sorry about your kitty. They do become part of the family and it's so hard when they're gone. After my big ol lug of a cat died, I used to feel him jump on the bed just like always.
You sound very excited about your workouts - that's great. Waking up ready to go and visualizing the workout is wonderful. It's nice to have something to look forward to!
Virginia - Now about that a$$ kicking you asked for! What is going on? Ya didn't give any details. Work stress getting to ya? Just take it one day or even hour at a time. Think about your goals and your "why" for doing this. Hate to sound "new age-y" but be good to yourself. Eating everything in site is harmful to your body as well as your mind!
OSC - rest rest rest rest rest. Truly, you will come back stronger if you just rest. Your body is telling you something (rest) listen! Hope you feel better.
Patt - So, these ladies that haven't noticed, eh? Maybe when ya show up this summer in a cute little pair of shorts and a daring top they will! You noticed, right!? I know it feels great when someone else says something - it's validation for all your hard work. Keep it up. And about your 8 YO counting the days til Christmas - how funny! They just love it, don't they! Mine tells me everyday how many days until her birthday - it's the 29th, and she's been bellowing since November!
Mel - Trainer huh? Sounds great! You'd be good at it. Just from reading your posts. Go for it! Show those "younger " women how it's done.
Karen - can you tell me a little about your cardio routine, please? If I read it right, you do it everyday? I could have read it wrong, it was late! Glad you hear your party went well. Loved the pics from the show last weekend.
Hope I didn't forget anyone! Have a great day. Going to hit the gym hard in a few!
Good morning everyone! Just looking out my office window at the storm comin' our way. Gotta love El Nino - NOT! As it turns out, I have a riding lesson after work...in the lighted, covered arena that is. Still gonna be COLD though...
Mel - actually I should have clarified - it's not in my PERSONAL kitchen - but it's in the office kitchen close to my desk. Actually it's history now - I came in this morning and there were still brownies and fudge sitting on the counter (had been sitting there ALL NIGHT LONG) and I tossed 'em. Heck, no one needs that crap around here, least of all yours truly
And you would be AWESOME as a trainer! Though I agree with you - it's so difficult to figure out what the 'best' certification is - there are so many of 'em out there, I'd go nuts
Taking a mandatory unpaid vacation eh? Jeez. No way could I afford to do that...they won't let you use your accrued vacation time? That really sux.
Susie - about my cardio - I do it every day but sometimes it's moderate, sometimes all-out. If I don't have time to do it then weights take precidence...remember though that I'm not on BFL right now - anyone starting out should follow the book to the letter and do the 20MAS 3 times a week. Basically, when you're just starting out in weight training, that's the optimum time to build muscle - so you want to stick to the 20MAS. It's really a question of intensity rather than time - you get MUCH better results from cardio doing a 20 minute MAS or HIIT (both interval training) than doing, say, an hour or more of cardio in the (so-called) "Fat burning" range (you know, the range listed on the machines).
Patt - who's to say that they *haven't* noticed?!? Sometimes people can be so petty and jealous - they might have noticed but just ain't talking... Did you take 'before' photos? This might be a good time to take some 'progress' pix to compare - you might be surprised!
Ledom - take it from ME - don't go out of your way to eat crap during your time off. You've probably heard this at L&S - just because it's a 'free week' doesn't mean that you just eat eat eat all week...best thing would be to eat clean, maybe give yourself a small treat once a day IF YOU FEEL LIKE IT. You're kickin' butt - keep it up!
Well it's my last day at work before I have the week of Christmas off. I have been preparing for this day for the last 3 weeks so I find that I have very little to do today!
I am driving (9 hrs) to Melbourne on Monday to spend Christmas with my side of the family. My Mum has asked me to organise it so I have 3 busy days scheduled. I can't wait actually I have spent a lot of time planning it and it's going to be awesome.
The weird thing about planning and being organised is that you lose the last minute adrenalin rush of doing things. I got home from work last night finding myself with not much to do so hubby and I decided to go to a movie. We went to the mall and people were running around trying to shop etc before Christmas. We almost felt 'out of place' because we were so relaxed and everyone was hyped. I felt the strong urge to buy something so I picked up a $5 coin purse for myself and a wallet for hubby. It was weird to be there though with everyone rushing around and me with nothing to do! Anyway I will quit rambling now.....
Well I hope that everyone has a Merry Christmas and I will catch up with you all when I can, probably when I am fixing my Mum's computer!
9 hour drive?!? Hope you and Hubby are takin' turns behind the wheel - and I fervently hope that the weather in Oz isn't like what we're experiencing here now in the Bay Area...YUK! Worse yet, I have a RIDING LESSON after work - I'm looking forward to the riding, but dreading the drive to Woodside which normally takes 20 minutes...probably will take twice as long
Hey! One of my coworkers gave everyone See's Candy for Christmas - EXCEPT ME Instead, she gave me a $20 Target gift card which is something I can really use - rather than a pound of Nuts & Chews (my favorites!). SOMEONE out there is listening...I gave my boss an adorable Lenox crystal kitty that she LOVED - she's a feline fancier big time...and she doesn't need candy either...who does really?
JC - didja order the GetLean kit yet? I'm still on the fence myself...
Since there will likely be no riding lesson on Saturday due to the deluge (Dee has to share the covered arena and Saturdays are very hectic) Jim and I might venture to San Francisco to see the film "Standing in the Shadows of Motown". Supposed to be EXCELLENT - James Jamerson (the bass player behind most of the classic Motown hits) is a MAJOR influence for Jim, and we don't want to wait until it goes to DVD to see it.
Yes we always take turns - only 2 hours each plus we need to stretch the dogs legs as well.
I love the storms actually but only when I am at home - I hate driving in the rain. But alas it is hot and dry here - no rain or storms.
I haven't ordered the Get Lean kit but I am tempted. Are you planning on reading it and keeping it or do you just want to read it? Maybe we could work something out between us.
Just got in the door - actually it stopped raining and storming right before I left work (thank Goodness!). BUT I should've called to make sure riding was still on - it was CANCELLED and Dee left a message on her voicemail, but (duh) I didn't check it Oh well...I spent about 30 minutes visiting the horses - I enjoy just BEING with them as much as I do RIDING them - so it wasn't a total loss
Hm. I'm still waffling on the GetLean book - I've actually read it before - and tried it for a couple of weeks. It's definitely a competition diet - but it's not low-carb at all. Kinda cool how the diet works - you get complex carbs at just about every meal along with protein. I think 2-3 of the meals include veggies. I forgot whether it's five meals or six...but you need to follow the book EXACTLY for "X" (forgot the exact #) number of weeks. Robb, Swlsue, and LC have all been following Keith Klein - I've seen some other peoples' profiles and photos on GetLean but can't recall names. You can bet if I lived in Houston, I'd be going to Keith Klein for training, no question!! But there's something about paying $60 for a paperbound book that kind of stops me (I don't even have the VCR plugged in - and I have calipers). I keep checking eBay but it hasn't shown up yet...maybe I'll cave soon!
Ya know, when we're traveling Jim ALWAYS drives. He enjoys it and I'd just as soon relax and not have to get all anxious!
