I had a really great work out yesterday, but I couldn't finish all my lunges. I keep getting this odd pain my tailbone when I do them. It worries me because I've never seen this happen to anyone else and I'm not sure why this is happening.

So for now I do them until the pain starts up and then I stop. I have checked my form, so I'm wondering if it's a flexibility thing.

Have you guys ever seen anything like this?


Tejas, I'm 23 and I wish I could be happily retired! But I guess I've still got some stuff to do first, like get married and have kids, raise them and kick them out of the house, then Dylan and I can retire.
My grandma is two years older than you and she is not active at all, I wish she was. When I'm in my 60's I want to be energetic and healthy.

I had another attack of nausea after doing split squats, lunges and dip and pull up assists. I think it is too much exertion and too much up and down. I'm working on pre-workout nutrition and on hydration. If that doesn't help, we'll change the routine. I have to stop before I finish and I don't like that.

Stephanie, I wish I had started to lift weights seriously when I was your age. But, building muscle can be done at any age so I'm not really unhappy about starting late in life.

Tejas - I sometimes get nausea when I do situps at the gym, its definitely the movement but I've gotten better.

I went to the gym today, 5 days this week of CF (and I ran on the day I didn't go). I feel great. Anyway, today was Fran (and for you non CFers that is)

21-15-9
Thrusters (front squat to push press - I did 53 lbs)
Pullups (did my jumping pullups)

My time was 8:44. I'm working on deeper squats and wow the thrusters were killing me.

Hey Rhonda Sorry to hear you are still experiencing nausea during parts of your workout. Looks like some of the modifications you are planning are in accordance with what I found in this list as well. I'll post it anyway for you to look at and you can best determine if any of these variables could help.

Hey Peeps.

Sorry, been awol again, just busy here. Let's see...cutting weight for strongman contest (november), 8 weeks to go, 6 lbs to go...yeesh! I'm on track so far, but a pound a week is a pretty steep goal for me at this weight. Still getting PRs on max effort days, though, and been Rx'ing more metcons lately, so I guess I will keep on keepin' on and see what happens.

Nelie, great job...that's a good Fran time! Haven't done that one in over a year...means we're probably due soon...bleh! I hate thrusters, probably always will, and my pull-ups, well, glad to have them, but my grip is so cruddy, I can only do about 3 in a row before I fall off the PU bar.

We did a "Filthy 51" (Filthy 50 but with 51 reps) for somebody's birthday yesterday. Finally rx'd that wod, since I figured a way to get KTEs with an underhand grip and just jumping up to the bar. We only have one GHD (glute-ham developer), so usually do good mornings as a sub for hip extensions, but my trainer let me do the hip extensions since I asked....leg cramp city, but I felt like a stud for doing 51 of them, lol. Double unders are coming along..woot! 48:22 or something like that.

Today we did a memorial wod for 9/11, but a short one, since we did the big wod yesterday. I had to do it on my own, since I wanted to clean the gym first...I've tried it the other way around, and it makes the gym cleaning take for-EVER when I'm tired from the wod. The wod was:
9 OH Squats 95/65
11 Pull-ups
5 rounds for time
My time was 12:05. I normally use 53# for OHS in metcons with those reps, but went lighter, 45#, to try and keep it around the ten minute mark. As usual, pull-ups were slow, though, a few at a time. Maybe if I lost about 20 more pounds, my grip wouldn't be such an issue?

Doing a 5K tomorrow with my sister. She has finished her On Ramp class and has been coming to regular wods about 3 days a week since. She seems to like it, and will hopefully stick with it. She is losing weight and getting fitter every time I see her, it seems.

Better get some sleep. Have to be up early for the 5K start. Will be going an easy pace for this one, so a good recovery/rest day option. I hope. My hamstrings are still pissed about the Filthy 51 business from yesterday...squatting was lots of fun today..not! Begged the teenager to feed the dogs tonight, just so I wouldn't have to try and bend down to pick the dog bowls up off the floor.

Just joining this thread today. So many of you have gotten a lot of weight off and kept it there... congratulations!!! So impressive. Skimmed posts from the first part of the month but will read more carefully starting today, and hope Mel and her mom are doing OK.

I LOVE resistance training and had great success 8 yrs ago with Hot Point Fitness (5 min. cardio warmup, then 2 sets of several gym machines with targeted stretches between sets so h.r. stays up, then cardio at the end) so I'll be doing that for the next 6 wks. My h.s. son's getting ready for wrestling season so we're going to do 1-2 hr. workouts at Gold's most days. Finally somebody with high fitness goals to go to the gym with! Of course he'll do a Navy Seal workout there so I won't see him there but it's having somebody to get you there that'll help.

Have had really bad plantar fasciitis that's taken several months to heal so I can't power walk or hike yet, which was my favorite exercise (did Disney Marathon & 1/2 Marathon 2 and 4 yrs ago). Weight crept up and the less I exercise the more I stress eat... today's a new start, though, and I plan to lose 1-2 lbs a week for the next 6 weeks.

Oh, and what's a power cage? Our small town has what we consider a fabulous new Gold's Gym... so much more equipment than any other gym in the area, racquetball, lap pool and a movie theatre, too! Too cool. But not sure if there's a power cage there.

Hi busymovinmama! Welcome!
This is a decent picture of a power cage:

Basically its for doing squats and various exercises so that if something happens and you need to drop the weight, you aren't crushed and the barbell stays in the same area. Traditional gyms tend to have them.

Cheryl - I'm excited to hear about your strongman competition, it sounds fun! We were doing OH squats the other day for our 'pre-workout' and I was doing 43 lbs. Congrats about your 'filthy fifty-one' time. I think when we did the filthy fifty not too long ago, it took me just over an hour.

Today is rainy and I'm going to rest today but maybe I'll do some yoga or something.

Cheryl, what is the competition like? It sounds cool!

Do any of you guys compete? The only competitions I've heard of people doing so far are the body building ones. I used to work with a woman who did them, she made me cry when training me because she would go nuts just before one. I think she was just pushing her body too far for the show.

I'm feeling okay lately, weights dropping and it's reinvigorating me to focus more on my nutrition. I've been great about getting enough protein and not overdoing it with carbs. I need to go back to my doctor because I think I need to go back on my anxiety meds, it's been over a month and I can feel it getting worse as the days go on.

Nelie: I'm drooling all over the pic you posted. Nice cage. And it IS a good day for yoga and some rest. My dad and step mom are in town for the week so I'll be busy doing touristy type things. We took them on the Metro into DC yesterday. Basically just showed them around a little so that they can hit the museums at their leisure throughout the week.

Had to laugh about the sidewalk vs path thing you pointed out. Your right! I recall my realtor pointing this fact out to us as well.

Diane Can't wait to hear about your success this fall as you head back into the gym.

Cheryl: I am SO impressed with how you are hitting PRs while lowering your scale weight. You are doing awesome!

Mel: Any new information about your mom and brothers' homes? Or are you booking a flight as we speak.

I almost believe in miracles. The firefighters were able to hold the fire perimeter about 30 feet behind their garage, after retreating from about 1/2 a mile uphill where they couldn't stop the fire along the ridge road where the winds were highest. The house smells smokey, but there is no damage. Everything uphill and down into the neighboring canyon is gone. A total of 190 plus homes were destroyed. There are still hot spots, so they were allowed to go up to the house yesterday for a few hours, then had to re-evacuate. Mom said the food in the freezer was still cool, so they emptied that into the back of their SUV and took it down to my brother's in Boulder (who ended up NOT having to evacuate) and I think they are eating alot for the next few days. They expect to be allowed to go back by the end of this coming wee- but my mother has COPD and won't be able to stay up there due to the general smokey smell. Now they are devastated by their neighbors' tragedies.

The house was for sale- and no one was really looking. I don't think it's going to be a big selling point that it smells like smoke and all the surrounding land is charred. BUT we are all so relieved and grateful to the many firefighters, some who lost their own homes and stayed on the fire lines even though they were released from duty. They are the heroes.

I've been crazy busy here and pre-occupied. Sorry for being awol.

Lydia- The only solution to motion sickness I've ever found is to eat before I travel. However, take that with a proverbial grain of salt- my solution to all discomfort is to eat something!

I leave Thurs. night for Columbus. Probably will be scarce for another week.

Mel: Great news that the houses are safe. A little landscaping and a professional cleaning service and hopefully it will be good to sell.

Have a great time in Columbus next week. What's the plan? Visit with your daughter, house hunting, both? You can email me listings you are considering and I'll give you some personal insight into the area. One of the things I wanted to point out about Arlington are the property taxes. They have fantastic fire/police/schools services. One of the best library systems in the country (or so I've read in the paper Pat) that is independent of the Columbus Metro library system. Great parks...but, the taxes are little higher there than other northwest communities. Just a heads up. I love Grandview as well. Grandview Avenue with all of the restaurants, outdoor patios, wine bar, JENI'S! oh, and GO FITNESS to counteract all of the damage from the carbs you'll find at Stauffs... Grandview is nice.
