Yay Lydia! I'm so happy for you!
Mel - we have thunderstorms predicted for every afternoon here, our mornings are pretty sunny. I did my strength workout yesterday, and cut 3/4 of my grass before the rain rolled in. Doubt I'll get out of here before the rain comes back today so not likely to be able to finish until tomorrow night, or maybe Thursday. So now I have a big mis-balanced yard. Ick. :dizzy: Thanks for the reinforcement guys! Getting back in the game. |

In haste but I expect someone else will be along soon. |
In addition to the clean eats, I also suggest logging everything into a food tracker such as FitDay. If you are unfamiliar with the program it is online and free. In the beginning I was really surprised by how much I thought I was taking in vs the reality of it. FitDay is also helpful because it allows you to track the percentage of calories that come from the three macronutrients of Protein, Carbs, and Fats. Generally I following a Body For Life style of eating with a breakdown of about 40% protein, 40%carb, and 20% fat.
You may access FitDay at www.fitday.com. Another useful sight is www.Mydailyplate.com. Same idea just a little different in info offered. |
Thanks for the replies, and thanks, Mel, for moving my post.
I'll look at these sites and use them; I'm sure that will help. I've just read your entire thread and I don't know a lot of the abbreviations that you use. But, I thought that you might get a kick out of knowing that I am 64 years old and leg pressed 450 pounds today. My trainer had to help me get the weight up off of the stops, and the presses weren't perfect, but I can do it. :woohoo: |
Welcome Tejas!! I'm 65, and also happily retired! I'm counting on weights to keep me feeling young(er)! :) And really, probably 90-95% of weight loss is - sigh - eating clean.
Lydia, Congrats on both selling your house and buying a new one! It'll be so nice to have your family all in one place I'm sure. Will you be able to move before school starts? I think we are earlier than many places; ours starts 8/16 this year. |
Thanks Pat. And wow, you do have an early school start. The boys will begin Sept. 7th and DS1 will be registered and settled in our new home in time for orientation to Lake Braddock middle school along with all of the incoming 7th graders. I'm so relieved that we were able to meet this deadline.
It WILL be nice to have the whole family together. I'm having a difficult time leaving Columbus. I'm just so surprised about how emotional this has become for me. However, a decent night sleep will probably cure all this. Off to get some cardio. |
Very exciting Lydia! I know it takes time to move but I hope you'll be happy in the DC area, I personally love it :)
I was going to skip Crossfit today as front squats then 30 rounds of clean and jerks were part of the program today. My wrists are still bothering me from Monday's workout and my bruise from last week is still sore (got a bruise on my chest from doing cleans). Of course now I woke up and I'm pretty sure I'm sick. First sign, I don't want to eat anything. Well that and my throat hurts and I'm a bit stuffy. |
Lydia! What wonderful news on your house!Congratulations and pleaaassse post pics of this important house on a WHOLE ACRE??? Did I read that right? that is about 200m x 200m.... overhere a house is daid to have a big lot if it is over 300 squaremeter (less than 10% of 1 acre)
You can think of yourself as the lady of the castle for sure, Rabbit |
Lydia & Pat - our kids go back to school on 8/5 this year. Our county school board instituted the 'balanced calendar', which means school buses full of kids with no AC in the 100+ degree temps predicted for the first half of August... But hey, they will get extra time off later in the year that will use up all of the vacation of every parent in the county to cover or will require 4 extra weeks of child care expenses at atypical times and will require extra staffing at child care and local spots at a time when they normally are cutting back staff. So hey, worth it I guess.
Nelie - hope you feel better soon. I got in a decent interval workout on the treadmill yesterday. Nothing spectacular, but at least I did it. :) |
Shannon, our kids get out before Memorial Day, which really gives everyone more "summer" as our fall often starts in late August.
Lydia - Can't believe your DS1 is going to middle school!! Nelie - sounds to me like you're sick..... Where is Alena these days? Rabbit - I hesitate to tell you that our house is on 2 acres. :) All of the houses in our subdivision have at least 1.5 acres, and my next door neighbor has 4. We are 3 miles from the center of town, what would be a village to you I think. |
Lydia! congratulations :carrot: I'm so happy for you that your family will all be settled together again soon. I'll miss my buddy in Columbus, tho :(
Today was a total wash for me. My knees were so sore after yesterday's workout that I skipped cardio this morning. An unexpected noon meeting kept me from yoga, and then I got dizzy doing the first few strength lifts at CrossFit. Getiing Dizzy doing a power snatch or overhead squat is probably not a good sign, so for the first time, I packed up and went home. :p Hi Tejas  You have a few years on me (but not that many). I think it's fantastic that we are still leaping around the gym and getting stronger rather than frailer. Congratulations! And where is Alena?? |
Thank you, Mel, and others. I think I'll come to this thread to get some more knowledge and motivation.
I'll tell you a bit about myself. I've already said that I'm 64. I'll be 65 in late September. I'm retired and now have the time to be a gym rat. I bought my first strength training for women book about 10 years ago, and put it on the book shelf. I've done a lot of aquafit over the years, but that was it, and I put on a lot of weight for no good reason. That weight is slowly, slowly, slowly coming off. For the past 6 months, I've had a personal trainer at a LA Fitness gym. I see him 3X a week for weights, free and machine. I also do aquafit, the bike, the elliptical trainer, and stair master. Stair master kills me, and I can only do about 15 minutes on it. I also was doing a lot of spinning, then stopped, but am now back at it. I like it quite a bit. But, really, my motivation for everything but weights wanes. I bet that is common at 6 months. I've also been hampered by degenerative disk disease in my neck on the right side. That interferes with my right arm. But, deep massage over the past 6 weeks has really helped that. The good thing is that I absolutely LOVE being and feeling strong. My forearms are amazing, according to my trainer who affectionately tells me I'm a "freak." So, I need to build on the good and keep moving. I was happy to read on some of your posts that you have days you don't want to do anything, days where you hurt, days that aren't as good as others, but you keep going. So, I'll post and look forward to getting to know you. My name is Rhonda, by the way. |
Pat : WOW! Talk about the wide open spaces....a 2 acre lot only 3 miles from town!
The 300m2 lots are in our suburbs. And my village is tiny at 1500 people. The next village is about 10000 people, it is about 4 miles away. And town, where I work, is 150000, and is 10 miles to the other side. I have a house from the 70's on a 1400m2 lot which is considered huge in the NL. Rhonda: nice to hear a bit more about you Today I'm in for house chores in preparation for holiday next saturday. I'm finally finished with all job related chores. And the heatwave broke so we are having more normal temperatures, which is a relief. I second the question...where is Alena? to all, Have a great day, Rabbit |
Ah, Rabbit, your village is small! Our town is about 5500 in the city limits, but the area served is closer to 20,000 (at least that's what we figured for the library). But the next nearest place - 12 miles west - is just slightly larger than our town at about 6500. There is also a small village of about 1500 about 15 miles north of us. Otherwise, the next largest place is Anchorage - Alaska's largest city which the internet reports as having ~685,000 in 2008.
Where are you off to on holiday? Wherever, I hope you have a great time. My DH left this noon time to go fishing for a couple of days. He expects to be home Friday evening, but we'll see. Meanwhile I'm in charge of the cats, the garden, the greenhouse and the painters! :) Weather improved dramatically this afternoon, so I'm hoping the painters will be back tomorrow. They have about 1.5 days of work to finish I estimate. And I got my grass mowed tonight, or at least all of it around the house. I'll do around the garden tomorrow. |
Hey there! I got in some good exercise yesterday - strength training, finished my grass, rode 12 miles on my stationary bike, did some yoga before bed. Kept the food nicely on track. Good day.
Going for a run today. Pat - that does sound like a great lot! Rabbit - I think my house is on ..64 of an acre, and it is one of the biggest in the subdivision. |
