I actually had a very disappointing workout :( My rack position for the front squat is a bit sucky but it is worst for my push jerk. The trainer gave me a 53 lb bar and I couldn't push jerk it, my wrists started bothering me. Tried 43 lb and could do a couple but wrist was still bothering me, finally had to go with 33 lbs. The good news since I was doing 33 lbs, it took me 9:53 and during my first round, I did 12 reps on everything because I can't read. So I wasn't planning to go to Crossfit tomorrow but with the workout I had today, I probably will go tomorrow morning. |
Lydia! Congratulations and good luck! I was looking online at houses in UA today...but we are at least 3 years from that :( Found yours, btw.
Nelie- the first time I did front squats, my wrists and forearms hurt for a week. You'll get better and more flexible. We found a fantastic Greek restaurant tonight. Not entirely OP, but pretty close. I had flounder stuffed with spinach and pine nuts. Mel |

The search continues. If I settle in closer to DC I'll consider the one above or maybe even CrossFit OldTowne. Otherwise it could be CrossFit Fairfas or HammerDown in Chantilly. Options. Lots and Lots of Options. Mel: Really, my house is still listed? Wow. The realtor took it down from her MLS a couple weeks ago but DH posted it on Trulia so maybe it's still there. I just can't believe that as I leave you may be moving here even if it is a few years from now. I'll have to let you know when I'm in town visiting family. :lol: |

Couldn't sleep and finally got up and went to the 7 am Xfit. I felt like I had just left there :lol: 150 squat thrusters @ 45 pds 25 sit ups every time you had to drop the bar. The first 30 or so were a piece of cake- it got increasingly brutal. Tomorrow I need to rest. |
I have a friend of mine who may be moving to VA as well but it is only a temporary assignment (initially) so she will be renting.
Obviously it is frustrating but hopefully you'll get there soon :) |

That is exactly where I am three days a week. I work with a personal trainer, and I'm happy with what he has me do, and with the mix of machines, free weights and simple body weight exercises like squats and lunges. I've got a question about diet, weight and this kind of work. I have been at 176 for two months and the scale does not move down. I've tried everything I know to do. I do not want to run because of spinal disk issues, and much of the normal cardio bores me stupid. HELP! Any ideas about food? Thanks. |
Today was a much better CF workout.
We did 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Goblet squats (16kg) handstand pushups (I did my incline pushups although I did move to a shorter incline) double unders (I did single unders although I am getting better at jump rope) wall balls (UGHHHH) I finished in 24:11, in a pile of sweat :) |
Lydia, there's a CF gym in Alexandria, VA, CF Old Town, that has an excellent reputation. You might check that one out, if it's in your new neighborhood. Hope the sale and house hunt/move will go smoothly for you...you deserve some good luck after such a long wait!
Nelie, that last wod looks brutal, nice work! I'm having slightly less wallball hate these days, but only because I dropped to a lighter medball and refused to move up until I could do a hi-rep wod without my form falling apart. I've been using the 10 lb ball for a a while with good results, so will try the 12 soon. Mel, sorry to hear about the arm issue...hope it was just tired and not an injury. I never could make progress overhead like I did on other types of lifts, but now that my biceps tendonitis is healed, I think I just had that problem even before I started CF, and didn't realize it wasn't "normal" pain, until it was gone. I'm taking it easy, though, as I'm definitely gun-shy and not wanting to reinjure the thing by going too far too fast. Pat, glad you are feeling better! Everybody else, :wave:! I haven't had a workout since Thursday. Friday was spent running errands/cleaning/prep for the level 1 cert this weekend. Saturday I spent at home, got a dump run in, did some yard work, took care of some dog business stuff, met with my elderly neighbor to get a list of what yard work she wants done next. In the evening, I collapsed and listened to the remainder of the Stephanie Plum audio book I'd been listening to. On Today's agenda: another dump run, some yard work here and probably for the neighbor, gobs of laundry/housecleaning/pre-cooking meat for the first part of next week. May or may not do a CF type wod at home. Probably not, since I just have so much else to do, and will be at the gym tomorrow morning anyway. The dump run and yard work might be the workout for today. I'll alleviate the guilt by writing up a nice warm-up for Monday morning. :D |
I have been so slack about posting in this thread, and as I look it is totally because I have been slack about exercising. And about my diet. And about remembering to brush my hair in the morning before I get dressed work. (Started showering at night before bed so I dry my hair then, don't move much at night so sometimes hair looks the same, but jeez, I still need to care enough to brush it!) So, I am going to get back in here posting something. Even if that post is "I didn't do crap for exercise yesterday" that is what it needs to be. I find that I hate hate hate posting things that I feel are inadequate, so I will be more motivated the more times I have to say "didn't do anything"...
On that note, I didn't do crap for official exercise this weekend. I did put up a closet organizer on Saturday, which I'm counting for something at least. And I did workout Thursday last week, my heavy day of Krista's 3 Day FB workout, day 2 of the week. Never did day 3. Likely starting back with Day 1 today. |
Welcome to Day 1 Shannon! After taking all of last week off from lifting (though not from cardio) I'm there as well. And after square dancing 6 times (for at least 2 hours each time) in 4 days, I'm thinking that a UBWO is on the schedule today. My poor legs are achy. Not sore in the squat/lunge way, but definitely aching. :)
We have painters here doing the outside of our house, so one of us needs to be home and DH has gone to town for his turn. I'll get to the gym likely early afternoon now (it's nearly 11 now). It's creepy in the house with the windows covered in plastic.... |
Shannon - Until the past few weeks and joining Crossfit, my workouts were very sporadic. It always helps to check in because at least it is in the forefront of your mind :)
Today's CF workout was rough. Buy-in Sumo stance deadlift - 3-2-1-1-1 with the 1's meant to set PRs. I had never done them and we had to share weights so I was a bit conservative. My last single was 153 although I felt I could definitely have done more. WOD 5 rounds of 10 SDHP (38 lbs - scaled from 53) 10 pullups (I did ring rows) 10 Thrusters (38 lbs - scaled from 53 and ugh my wrists were bothering me) 10 Burpees Took me 30:58. Cash out- 100 abmat situps Of course the funny thing about the abmat situps is I was just thinking yesterday that I'd like to do some situps. |

Another sporadic exerciser. I'm working from home this week, preparing for my holiday. No formal exercise but found my car with a flat battery and biked with DD on the back to bring her to a friend of hers to get her bike back, then biked to the next village & back to get a jump starter. Yesterday's Xfit was short and brutal: 9 deadlifts 5 hang clean squats same weight, AMRAP for 11 minutes. rx'ed was 95 pds, but 85 is my max for hang clean squats, and that's not in a WOD. I did 80- made for easy dead lifts and brutally hard hang clean squats. I was doing them one at a time for the last 2 rounds. For the sporadic exercisers, I really do think that checking in here and reading what others are doing is a good way to keep the exercise on your mind. Even though I'm not sporadic, often reading what others are doing makes me want to try something new, or a new way of doing an old trick. The same goes for the food- I don't post anywhere else often, but quick check ins in diet forums (Beck, Calorie Counters, and of course, Maintainers) keeps my mind on that as well. :yes: Totally agree that forum support helps with the keeping the workouts a priority. It's why I'll lurk even if I'm not posting. But admittedly, there is a direct correlation to the frequency of my postings and the intensity of my workouts. My frequency doesn't suffer, I'm a creature of habit, but I'm more likely to boost my enthusiasm for the upcoming workout by checking in with all of you. It helps me feel connected with like minds. :goodvibes:
So. Quickly, I just want to share that I found a house and we are in contract. It's through a relo company so there could be no contingencies which made things a little scary for us but our offer has been accepted and it's ours. :dance: We beat another bid by a mere 15 minutes. Seriously. There were a lot of people working their a$$es off to make sure that we got in that house before anyone else. We found it hours after it was posted on FranklyMLS, midnight Friday night, DH and my awesome realtor did a walk through Saturday morning and we submitted a contract an hour later. Did the home inspection yesterday and it was accepted promptly after. :dizzy: We are buying in Burke, Va. and it is on an almost full acre lot. And FLAT! The house is amazing. I told DH I"m not important enough to live in this house. :lol: He laughed and said, "Your right, but we're buying it anyway." It puts me about 20 minutes from the CrossFit in either Alexandria or Old Towne. I've already investigated both and Old Towne looks very exciting and just may be worth the extra inconvenience just to have the experience to train there. We'll see. I really want to heal first so I'll be doing a close by gym until I can squat again. :lol: |
