Hi all,

Pat - Happy start to the christmas season?????That is another 3 weeks in my agenda! I have loads of other things before that...it is strange to think that christmas season has started at the other side of the pond. mentally I am not even at sinterklaas season yet, and that is december 6th, so next weekend. EEEKS!. luckily we celebrate 1 week later!

I am seriuosly drowning in work these days, I cannot contemplate that the end of the year is nearing without feeing panic rise. Fortunately I had my last course day yesterday, so I'll have my friday freed up again. The rest of the stuff is training on the job so hopefully it will take less time.

I have not done a sigle day of exercising last week, and I'm getting to the point where I haul myself back into the groove again. I think I'll do another stretch of 1-hour-per-day exercise but for a limited amount of time: a 10 week challenge. That will take me into january and over the holiday season. any execrcise will count: biking, lifting and yoga and zuma. I want to get more stuff into the routine because the weather is getting worse...rain and storm all week, so biking is going to be less in the next week.

I'm into a weekend of grocery shopping, cleaning, picking upping and cleaning.

Cheryl, Shannon, Birch & everyone else,
Enjoy the holiday season,
Rabbit

I can't even think about the Christmas season without panic setting in. We celebrate Hanuka and Christmas, and I still haven't finished clean up from Thanksgiving. I may NEVER host another holiday beyond my very immediate family. My knees and hips are sore from cooking, cleaning, then cleaning up. My brother -in-law mentioned friends that had gone to a local country in for T'giving dinner and the "outrageous" price they paid. I just stared at him. I spent almost that much money per person, had to do ALL the work, and no one lifted a finger (except my dh) to help me clean up afterward. I'm feeling rather scroogey about upcoming holidays.

Yesterday dd and I went to CF- she did amazingly well for not having worked out that way before. It was a simple w/o by Crossfit standards and she does go to the gym almost every day. but the concept is very different from pilates or lifting on your own or doing the elliptical for 20 minutes. She won't go today- says her traps are too sore from the power cleans. But I'm proud of her

I have no idea what 2 days of holiday food did scale wise. My jeans are a little tighter.... but I'm off to CF this morning, and we are almost out of any tempting goodies. ds is home, so he will polish them off and I'll be back to lettuce and chicken breasts

Have a good one!

Mel: Obviously he was never sent to the grocery with the complete list. Like we all keep a twenty pound bird in the freezer just in case extended family happens to pop for a free meal right...?!

Awesome job to your daughter in her first CrossFit workout. Wouldn't it be fun if they handed out t-shirts stating "I survived my first Crossfit workout"

I'm feeling the end of the year and impending holiday stress too. I'm attempting to sit for my test on the 5th of December so that I can at least put that thing to bed. I keep having conversations with myself that if I gave myself an extra week then I would be so much more prepared. (There is a lot of memorization with this exam) If I put it off, it hits right into the holiday season. Ick. I've got way too much to take care of here so I know i really wouldn't study for a month.

What's the worst that could happen, I don't pass and I pay to sit for it again. Not the end of the world. But...if I do know enough to pass this thing I can move on and actually enjoy my kids.

Eh...I'll keep you all posted.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Mel - ouch on the thoughtless comment of BIL. Hosting & catering to a familiy event is a HUGE task...too bad no-one except DH chipped in to lend a hand. At the very least you have an excuse for future events too come...

Lydia - good to see you! Do sit the test, you mentioned you were in the 90th percentile on trial runs, you'll surely ace it!

Went grocery shopping this morning and cleaned a little, and I'm exhausted again. sigh. I really really hope my energy will improve as this is no fun at all. Its dark has been raining all week. I cannot use all this exhaustion right now.

Have a great day all,
rabbit

Morning, snow stopped early last evening, but the roads - icky! (a DH report) Hopefully they're better today as I have a gym/grocery run scheduled. A friend of DH's is coming in about 1/2 hour to help put all the furniture back in our newly recarpeted bedroom. Yay!! I should just then move the living room furniture for the Christmas tree while I have an extra strong body here.

Mel - your BIL was so out of line! Maybe next time you should take the $$ and take them all out to eat. Much less stress for the same amount. I really enjoy going to our next door neighbors for holiday meals. Her 4 daughters and several adult granddaughters cook pretty much everything. ANd there's all the little kids to enjoy - and be able go home to peace and quiet when we want - with no leftovers to call our names.

Lydia - hopefully your DH will be around for part of the holidays? I think you're ready for this test (there is over-studying like overtraining, no?) It'll be so freeing to have it over and done and be able to enjoy your holiday.

Rabbit - do you take Vitamin D? The doctors here have found that people who live in northern latitudes have a high percentage of deficiency. You're about 9 degrees further south than we are, but most Alaskans need some supplementation.

GOtta run, dryer is buzzing....

Pat, I should probably try that, too, the vitamin D, I mean. I'm feeling good, but it can't hurt, and we don't get much sun, compared to folks closer to the equator.

Shannon, my holidays used to be like that, run run run, or guests and cooking the whole day. About ten years ago, I realized that was NOT my idea of a holiday, so I started up with doing the whole family and friends thing on Christmas eve, leaving Christmas day for eating leftovers and just relaxing...what a difference!

CF was open yesterday, finally, and of course they tried to kill us. BB Thrusters were part of that, and I realized why I hate them so much. I can't get the momentum from the hip drive to go through the stinking bar, so I end up with a front squat strict press, instead of a push press. My trainer helped me to work on that some yesterday. He said that if the elbows are too high on the way back up out of the squat, the bar is not going to get much lift, so the trick is to switch the grip/arm position from the high elbows front squat position, to more of a push press position. I get that, but actually putting it into practice is a whole nother problem for me. At least now I know why the stinking bar wasn't moving, though, and have some idea of how to work toward fixing my form on that movement.

I'm doing my part of the gym cleaning today. Had planned to do it yesterday after the workout, but the guy showed up who does the vacuuming, and his laziness grates on my last nerve, so I decided I'd better wait and go in on my own today. I've gotten to where I can stop myself from cleaning up after the lazy guy, but I just could not be there yesterday, to actually watch the process. Killing is wrong. Killing is wrong...

Cheryl - just heard about some shooting where you are. I know it's a big place but I hope you and yours are OK. (I can't get over global news coverage sometimes.)

Shannon - leg is now colourful, thank you! Large egg swelling mostly gone and I can sit on the floor now. Ye gods!

See you all tomorrow. all

Morning all,

morning Birch! Good to hear the leg is flattening out & turning colourful.

Cheryl - Don't get me up on a soap box about men and cleaning, or even picking up after themselves... I said to DS some days ago that I feel that I have faileed as a mother because he just never picks up after himself. OTOH that might be just teenege boy behaviour, OTOH his father was the worst for doing close to nothing but acting like it was nobel prize winning. I love you christmas story.

Today is the hardest day of the next 10 weeks: I have to get myself into that groove again. Powerclass is planned, no biking, as I have another long and strenuous day ahead. Yesterday was pretty intense as well, working on a paper that is almost finished.

Have a great day all.
a word of for all the thanksgiving-holiday-partygoers- Weekend is over people! Time to hit the groove again!

Ah, today is the last day of November, and back to reality day for me. Got up at 5:15 and did the elliptical, raced through breakfast, then a shower in my FINISHED bathroom!

Off to work where I'm sure I have about 5000 emails and projects with a deadline of tomorrow And I'm wearing heels for the first time in 5 days That might be the worst part

CF tonight I did a double CF class on Saturday- CF strength then a regular WOD. Boy, was I tired. I'm amazed I wasn't excruciatingly sore, just exhausted.

edit: uh oh- just checked the CF site. Today is "Fran"

Have a good one!

Mel - there are some things you should never look at before you go - sounds like CF workouts is one of them.

We have a finished recarpeted bedroom! No more projects til painting the outside this summer. My sister has a new boyfriend (can you say that when they're over 60?) who is conveniently a house painter. They're supposed to come visit in Feb, and we may be persuading him to come back in the summer.

My PN program ends today. There is the option of an alumni program or another round both starting in Jan. I'm unsure what to do, as I wrote before. I'll ponder it awhile longer. For now I'm doing some previous workouts and as I mentioned, a series of swimming coaching sessions. My main goal is to make it through to the new year weighing the same or less than I do now. Thanksgiving is past, and I didn't gain anything.

BIrch - glad your bruise is resolving.

Whoops, looked at the clock, need to scoot.

Hello!

Been a while (July 21 to be exact), so I'll just dive right in...

Which CF site's workouts are y'all following? I've been doing the main site (crossfit.com) WOD, scaled down. It's fine -- and, of course, free -- but sometimes the number of pullups, even in the scaled-down versions, gets to be a bit ridiculous, esp. for those of us with less than stellar elbows.

Be strong,
K

Hello all! Today is the day I get back on track... I didn't make my UB workout after my run on Friday, was starving so started dinner instead. Then I spent five hours putting out Christmas decorations on Saturday, no real exercise. Sunday I went to the park with DSS & chased him around for an hour and a half. Exercise, but not the intensity I'm targeting. So today is back on the strength training track. Raining and cold, so going to run tomorrow instead of today. That sets me up for M-W-F strength, T-Th-Sa or Su run with the other day off. My goal is to keep on schedule the entire week.

Kaw - welcome back!

Pat - I would be torn between the full and the alumni, too. What is the price difference between the two programs? With the info you already have could you join the alumni version and just keep doing the main program anyway?

Mel - ah, the first day back after time off. I think the business clothes are the worst part!

Rabbit - how do you feel after your break? Better?

Birch - glad the leg is improving!

Cheryl - I don't blame you for leaving when the vacuum guy showed up. Don't let people make you crazy.

Good day everyone!

Shannon, the alumni is 1/2 the price, and probably about half the access. I could have a marathon printing session and get all the lessons and exercises from the program - they'll remain posted for 2 more weeks, then we lose our access. Decisions, decisions. Meanwhile, what I need is to get back to being consistent no matter what I do!
