I've never been openly mocked, or had an experience described by others here, even at my largest. I have, however, been the wallflower at bars as all kinds of men flocked to my hot, skinny, blonde friend. While watching the sausage fight was somewhat funny, it's also humiliating to be the one sitting alone while your friend is preoccupied. Looking back, I think it was awfully rude of the friend too.
