Default Compliments are wonderful!!

We've all had our share of awful comments ... about our weight... the food we're consuming, what we "should or shouldn't" be eating...negative comments that make us feel bad, frown, even cry.

Well, I want to share some positive reinforcement! -

A few days ago, as I was exiting a grocery store & making my way across the parking lot, a guy sitting in his truck looked at me & just said "DAY-UM!" - HEH!!! I said "THANK YOU! - that's the best compliment I've received all day!!" and he nodded & smiled and said "you deserve it!"

And this morning, a male colleague said to me: "Wow! you're getting so skinny! seriously! - you look great!" Well, that just MADE MY DAY!!!!! Even tho I wouldn't say I'm "getting so skinny"... cause hey, 5'3" & 159 lb here, not skinny... but definitely thinner than what I have been in a long time!! It just really made me feel good

Please - share COMPLIMENTS you've received!

After all - we have 100's of threads of negativity and how awful we feel about our weight, etc... and we are working hard at our goals, so how about some positive reinforcement? WE DESERVE IT!

Hows this? I was honked at while I was jogging a few weeks ago. I stopped and looked at the guy because I thought I must know him... who else would honk right? Realized that I didn't know him... turned several shades of red and kept running.

And... went for coffee with an old friend and she asked when the other half of me was going to show up An oldie but a goodie.

Well, although I am still early in my weight loss and haven't received the "you look good" compliments yet (hehe), I LOVE the idea of this thread!

Come on ladies, let's post the positive comments!

I went to visit my husband on his ship a few weeks ago (he's in the Navy) and one of his female co-workers apparently commented after I had left how "hot" I was. This made my husband's day! Haha

I think the *best* compliment I've received so far was when I went to see my family doctor in August, and when she walked into her office and saw me she said, "Holy crap, where's the rest of you?!" *L* To hear that from a doctor just made it that more enjoyable.

But I think that my favourite compliments are the ones that don't specifically *mention* my weight, know what I mean? Like, plenty of people will say, "Oh, you've lost so much weight, that's fantastic!" but I especially love the ones where people say stuff like, "You look great" or "You look like a million bucks" without actually saying anything about the fact that I've lost weight. I mean, yes, I know that they mean I look fantastic *because* I've lost weight, but still. *L*

My OB/GYN also congratulated me on my weight loss - it DOES feel good when your doc gives you accolades!

Just today I received a compliment! It was in the form of a totally out-of-the-blue FB message from a girl I worked with on a class project a couple years ago but haven't seen around campus much.

"Hey! I just saw you walking around (I was outside <on-campus eatery> with my boss) and wanted to tell you that you look AWESOME!!! Seriously."

Made my day!

I have gotten a rash of "I hardly recognized you!" lately. I love it! (Although it is slightly weird to think that people recognize you by your body shape rather than your face.). One coworker greeted me with "good morning, skinny" and I said if he could do that every day, I would appreciate it

I have a love/hate relationship with compliments. On one hand, of course, I LOVE being told I look good, who doesn't?? But on the other hand, it makes me uncomfortable when people always bring up the fact that I used to be big, and now I'm thin, and I look "soooo much better now." Just kind of an awkward thing to say.

The "compliments" I've liked best are really just comments. Mostly from people that I met more recently after I lost the weight and have just always known me as a thin person. When somebody says something like "Megan, you're tiny" as if they were stating "Megan, your hair is brown"...that's what really makes me feel good.

One time I had a very intoxicated girl...who I thought was thin herself...bump into me on accident. In her drunken state, she started yelling at me for bumping into her. She said "Get out of my way, skinny b*tch...I could snap you in half!".........I think it was the best compliment I ever received, lol.

I consider myself very, VERY lucky (especially when I see some posts on here) that I have had nothing but supportive complimentary friends, co-workers and family members. I receive compliments on a near daily basis to the point where it is almost embarrassing.

This wasn't exactly a compliment but while I was running Tuesday, a guy in a pick-up truck was watching me so closely that he did not see the car in front of him stop at a stop sign and actually rear-ended her. I felt bad, but I was like "Woah, I just caused an accident!"

My cousin whom I haven't seen for 6 months saw me today and said "holy bat sh*t you look amazing" and that just made my day. I haven't gotten compliments like that in years (my husband doesn't count).

I'm a substitute teacher and it's always interesting how kids react to me. This week, I was greeted by 2 different students (at different schools) with "You're pretty." Both times it was the first thing in the morning, so I don't think they had ulterior motives .

This kind of thing has been happening a lot with students recently, which always surprises me because these are kids who are just meeting me for the first time. They'll do things like blurt out compliments like this or won't stop caressing my boots while I'm reading to them. Very sweet, but this never happened when I was heavier. It could be that I am more open and carry myself differently. Or it could be that the kids have already learned some very interesting things about our society's standards of beauty (i.e. thinner= prettier).

At any rate, it's helping me learn how to accept a compliment (which has always been something that made me squirm a little). You can't reject a "you're pretty" when it's followed by a toothless grin .
