Happens to me too, which is why I DO weigh in the evening!

Isn't it funny how different people can be?

Because my metabolism and weight loss is so much slower than it was when I was younger and healthier, I don't always see a measureable weight loss every week (and definitely not every day). My weight also fluctuates a lot because of water retention (I'm on meds, but a lot of things can affect how much water I retain - from diet of course but also from my activity level to the temperature).

Seeing the weight "loss" from the night before is reassuring, even if I know it's not "real."

It's also practical, because if I do not see a 2 lb loss from the night before, I've learned that can be an indication that I'm retaining more water than normal. That can be normal diet or TOM related, or it can be a sign of inflammation (if it goes on for several days it can even be a sign of my autoimmune issues flaring).

For example, even though it's TOM weight gain time, I noticed a few days ago that I was retaining more water than usual. Because I gain weight with almost any illness, I was afraid that the weight might mean I had caught my hubby's cold, and sure enough about 24 hours after noticing the weight gain, I woke up with chills, muscle aches, and a very sore throat.

I'm the same way, which is why I weigh only in the mornings.

People's water is highest in the evening. Which is why my home BMI reader says to use it at night. Works better.

So it is water retention, the food from the day you have not eliminated yet, and I'm sure other factors as well.

Yup, happens every day! My official weight is my morning weigh ins: after bathroom and before food or drink. I like to think its the most acurate on my personal weight and not just the food and drink still processing through me.

^^^ Totally agree with Amber. I figure water weight and the fluctuations probably don't effect my overall body shape (except my tummy) so I just go with the morning number.

Like others have said, I use weight as an instant motivator so I weigh daily, I just try not to get too obsessed with the number anymore, I guess knowing that the overall trend is downwards I don't sweat the small stuffchanges as much.

Yes!

I sometimes weigh morning before and after potty time, before and after eating, naked and clothed, at night before bed, in the middle of the night.
It allows me to learn my body and how certain foods/actions affects it. Example: I ate a hamburger, french fries and a diet soda and was +3.5 lbs! After eating a salad, I was +1 lb. That made me want to eat more salad and less burgers because I knew that 1 lb would go away a lot easier.

Thanks everyone!
