  • I love lists. They help keep me organized. I also love nyquil. Wouldn't get sick without it. It totally konks me out. The only thing is that I have a hard time getting off it once I am better.

    Ok, Favorite Thanksgiving Foods

1.Bread (I love bread, it is just so good. I baked my first loaf of whole wheat bread yesterday. It was really good.)

2.Pie: pecan is my favorite (and it probably has the most calories and fat), chocolate is good, chess is good, I like mincemeat (yea, yea, I know that is weird)

3.Stuffing (but then, that is a bread thing)

    4.olives

    5.Turkey sandwiches (the next day)

    6.Celery stuffed with cream cheese.

Of course I love other parts of the dinner, but these are my favs. I am lucky, only one dinner for me. Which is good, because I know how I like to pig out around all that food. It is really hard not to.
I am responsible for the mashed potatoes(real of course), 3-4 loafs of bread, olives (black, I would rather go with an expensive green olive, but I am out-voted), stuffed celery, beverages, and I think that is all.
Have a lovely Monday all. I have to work today, as I am off on T-day.

    HAPPY TURKEY DAY
  • My Favorite Thanksgiving Food
Hi! Hard to think about food after coming from the denist.

    My Favorite T-Day Foods

    1. Stuffing- probably my worst indulgence
    2. Harvard Beets-like candie I could eat a ton
    3. Acorn squash with maple syrup and vanilla creamer baked another dessert tasting vegetable.
    4. My BIL Dale's Famous Punkin Pi -It's infinitely good (don't mind the geek humor)
    5. Seven Layer Salad- mine usually has 10 layers. It's nice that I work where corn syrup is accesible, this has taken the sugar lumps out of the dressing.

Looking at this list no wonder it was so easy for me to be a vegetarian in my youth. But alas this old lady loves her steak-RARE

By the way Rusty I LOVE UR CALORIE GRAPH!!!!!!!!!!! Bad as me keeping a speadsheet of my calorie consumption on my IPAQ. Technology and EXCEL RULE!
    Miss Chris
  • For the uninitiated, and us foreigners, what goes into a seven (10) layer salad ?( besides corn syrup!)

  • Sorry folks I haven't been around this weekend it was just crazy at work. When I wenrt in Sat I found out that I could start my new hours ( almost double my old ones) and that I could start filling the new shifts for the girls on the floor( I work in a Nursing home) so I spent all day sat on the phone trying to cover shifts and Sun i did much the same. So today was a chance to see what it would be like to put in a full day, sure did keep bust all day. I guess I never got much done when I worked only 4 hours. O hope everyone is well, im off now to finish dinner.
  • 7 Layer Salad
Feel free to substitue anything you like! Start with layer 1, lettuce in a bowl!

    My MUST HAVE LAYERS
    1. Frozen Peas-16 oz bag
    2. Vivaldi Onion

    Other Layers
    Green Peppers
    Bacon
    Tomatoes
    Boiled Eggs

    Top Layers
Dressing-Mayo in full fat or fat free version with sugar or corn syrup till it tastes right. It must be sweet but not over powering with NO bitterness.
On Top of that cheese and more crumbled bacon if you like!

    NOW I AM HUNGRY!
    Miss Chris
  • Ok Miss Chris I drank almost a whole bottle of rum and still have the creapind crud so now what? As it srands right I could be a spokesperson for campbells chicken noodle soup. Drather have something with lots of veggies in it but hey I can't taste it at all. This has been a wonderful weight loss for me. When I went to the dr today I was down 5 lb from last wed.. I think that has made my day, esp. seeing how it is my tom to be comming around. My dr was shocked that I was almost ready to start I wasn't suppose to have one for a few months. Shows what they know. Question out there for everyone. My friend told me today that she was goin to have her stomach banded does anyone know anything about this surgery? By the way I got hungrey just readin what was in the 7 layer salad.

  • My Seven Layer Salad has
    1.Full head of lettuce, chopped
    2.1/2-1 head cauliflower, chopped
3.Lg onion, red or vidalia in slices
4.Full pound bacon, diced then fried til crispy
    5.1c. mayo
6.1/2 c. sugar (which I don't like, but I put in anyway, cuz everyone whines and cries about it, and who wants to hear it?)
    7.1 c. shredded cheese, I like cheddar.
    Salt and pepper to taste

I think it's supposed to have a layer of peas, but I don't like them, and almost everyone in my family doesn't like them, so I leave them out. What would taste really good, just thought of it, instead of the onion, slice up two bunches of green onions. Yummy!!! Chris, the tomatoes sound really yummy too. Maybe an eight layer salad. MMMM. Ok, now I'm hungry too.
dollar, glad to have you back. Hope the extra work doesn't wear you out. You go girl
gigglez, lay off the rum. She was kidding, get some nyquil. Trust me, you will feel much better.
    morningglory
  • done the nyquil and all it done was to keep me up all nite. I think that it is time for some antibotics amd some tlc from the tool man. Mg I think that the idea of the green oinions are better, plus I agree with the sugar dont need it
  • That acorn thingy sounds really yummy Miss Chris. As does the 7-layer salad. I should make one of those for T-day. I should just make one for right now. Yea, that sounds really good.
wykyd: I usually make mine (7-layer salad) the night before, stick it in the fridge. I wilts the lettuce and just sorta lets the stuff get all nice and married. I leave the layers as they are (don't toss it) until the next day.

    Things to be thankful for:
1.My family. As frustrated as I get with them I still love them very much. They mean the world to me.

2.That my daughter is still around. I am very thankful for that.

3.That I have the stuff that I need to take care of my children. I could live somewhere that doesn't allow women to be real people. I could live somewhere where poverty means living on the streets and being hungry. I am glad to live in the USA. I am thankful that I am an American.

4.My job. I like my job. Love my bosses. I like that they realize that my family is priority in my life. That what I do is important, but that it is not the most important.

5.I am grateful that I found this place. The people here are funny, sincere, supportive and just darn great!!! This place makes me happy.

That's it for now. Of course, I could go on and on and on, but I listed the highlights. Kiss kiss

  • Stomach Banding and Things I am Thankful For
Stomach Banding: A plastic band is placed around the stomach near its upper end to create a smaller pouch so you feel fuller sooner so you eat less. Apparently works fine for people with portion control problems and motivation to lose. If your a binge, emotional, chocolate, or ice cream eater it probably won't work.

I think any surgery is scary. I mean how many years have they been doing this? Sometimes I think medicine men and doctors have more in common than they would like to believe.

    Things I am Thankful for

    1. My Family- all of it from Tod and Bastian to all extended BIL's, SIL's, everyone. We wouldn't be the same family without a single person.

    2. My Job- I have been upset a bity lately. But I have wonderful benefits (hence my sore mouth today) and make an AWESOME wage for the midwest

    3. All those supportive people in my life from you ladies here, certain members of my family(MY MIL!), and my friends.

    4. Godiva - Life wouldn't be the same without 73% Dark Cocoa Demitasse

    5. Antibiotics, Indoor Toliets, My car, Sit down restraunts, DVD players and anything else that makes my life more civilized.

My wish for the Holidays: Peace and ability to see things from the other guys shoes.

    Miss Chris
  • Thanks Rochemist and MorningGlory, those salads sound yummy, (I think a salad for lunch might be in order....).
Oh....Godivas.... SO and I are stopping off in New York for a few days on our way home from Europe next March, and one of my plans is to pick up some Godiva chocolate like I have seen in magazines (you can't buy it here...yet.) Empire State.... Central Park.. yeah, yeah, just hand over the chocolate!

  • Things I am grateful for:

Living in a clean, safe, prosperous country, especially as a woman. Not having to live the life that some women on this planet do.

My SO, who loves, supports and believes in me, no matter how weird and crazy my ideas are.

My work colleagues, who wrapped around and supported each other this year under a new boss who was a tyrant, and tried to set everyone against each other. We stood up for each other and outlasted her.

The way my dog greets me when I come home.... no matter how frumpy or grumpy I look/feel, he adores me anyway. Whoever said money can't buy love never bought a puppy.

And last but certainly not least, Tim Tams. (a chocolate covered cookie) which are best eaten by biting the corners off and sucking hot coffee through. A NZ/Australian tradition. And it tastes sooooo good!
  • Wykyd
    I totally forgot that one.

Yes I am very grateful I live in a country where at least equal oppurtunity is idealized as a goal. Where I don't have to wear anything that covers my face. My husband can not get rid of me based on whim. No one tries to mutilate my private areas. I have freedom of birth control.

When I think of the struggles other women face around the world I am absolutely ashamed. Ashamed that my weight is a priority in my life when some of them don't have enough to eat. That I am worried about my hair when they don't have the right to cut theirs.

Maybe this Thanksgiving we should take a moment to remember our sister who have larger struggles than chocolate covered cherries in the house.

    Thank you for reminding me.
    Miss Chris
  • Here, here wykyd and Miss Chris. And I agree with you Chris, not that our problems are trivial, but that we should take some time to think of others less fortunate. Our problems may be trivial by comparison, but they are ours. I am very glad that I don't have to live like women in other parts of the world. I am glad that I have rights guarenteed by law. But, having fought and still fighting that battle (for equal rights), we have the right to move on and worry about other probs. I think that is why the journals are so popular. We can see a slice of someone elses life, and realize that we all have problems and we all suffer. But, hopefully, we all have joy too. I know I do. Hugs and kisses everyone!!
