Talking GOOD NEWS!!! (Sorry to shout) ...

But I love Kaylet's recipes for sugar-free key lime pie. Thanks, Kaylet!!! I think I will try the first one tomorrow! I have time for lime on Friday!

I think there's LOTS of things, BTW, good about getting older ... guess my favorite is that if I'm getting older, I'm still ALIVE and I like that a lot!

I used to eat those older SF bars, but now they seem really dated ... actually I don't really like the new ones either (sorry, that's a negative, but they're kind of on the dry side, which is a GOOD thing for eating on the run because one doesn't get a messy wet thing all over one's clothing ... that's it! I knew there had to be a positive side to those).

In all honesty, I personally think it's best NOT to try to drink too much water if your stomach is upset, as in sick, but it's great for heartburn to SIP ice water (tons of ice) ... not lying down, though. A half glass of cold water after everything you eat can help garden variety heartburn (as opposed to acid reflux disease, though I'd imagine it couldn't hurt that either). Here's another weird memory ... I used to put tons of ice cubes or crushed ice in a glass, add a little water and then pour milk of magnesia on the ice and sip that when I felt sick. Glad I don't do that anymore.

Have a great night/day everyone! Follow your feet instead of your head! Thanks, Kaylet.

P.S. GOOD NEWS: Good Housekeeping magazine has a nice piece in it about how the "bigger" body is back, with Christie Brinkley talking about how her career went well precisely because she was a large person (by model standards) and how she refuses to starve herself, likes her body, etc. She's 46 and looks 26 and is just really a good role model for liking one's body.

Hello all!! Monday's almost over and that is GOOD NEWS!!

I guess all that nausea was a touch of something because I spent the greater part of the weekend sleeping- just could not move! but I got thru today and will be going to bed early soon --
and am starting to feel more like myself. ( did you notice I didnt say "old " self --hee hee)
Anyway,
do you vote thumbs up for the key lime recipe? would you make it again?

This weekend, inbetween naps, the Food Network was showing a "Cooking Thin" show. I wasnt paying much attention until I realized the topic was beating binge eating. Their philosophy is you CANNOT go "cold turkey" (sorry for the pun)--to plan and have a safe substitute. They showed a Strawberry Sorbet recipe that looked easy. Except they used an icecream maker. I told my husband who also loves sweet treats and I guess the icecream maker is his Fathers Day present. (Less than $30 at Kmart)

We made the recipe tonight ( a piece of the maker has to be frozen for 24 hrs) -- we didnt use all the sugar substitute in the recipe and it was still very very sweet-- But really really nice-- not anything like a "diet " icecream or yogurt. Very Rich tasting. Now to find other recipes for other flavors-- Anybody know how to do frozen yogurt in their icecream maker??

here's the Food Network link--
www.foodnetwork.com ---
there a lots of general recipes as well as specific recipes from the "cooking thin " show - there is a drop down box that will let you search by show.

So, onward, upward, we can figure this out!!!

Angry Yo!!!

I'm just finishing my second good day on the 21-Day Challenge and that is GOOD NEWS indeed ... as I kept starting over at Day One. I now feel I can make Day Three just as easily.

Kaylets: I made the Key Lime pie using individual graham cracker crusts and it worked out really nicely. I would make it again except I still have some left. I've frozen it to see how that works out. Thanks for the link to the site. Glad you are feeling better.

I had an ice cream maker for awhile but gave it away. It was just too much trouble and I didn't get good results ... glad you were more successful.

My dream is to own a top of the line Vita Mix. I love blended drinks, etc., but the Vita Mix not only does that but a zillion other things, including turning fresh vege into boiling hot soup. I keep getting emails and catalogs from them and I'd really love to have one, but they're are way out of my budget.

I'm kind of half asleep and trying not to eat anything, so shall trip off to bed.

Mom: Are you there?

How many smilies?

Good Morning World!!!!!!!! ( in the style of Robin Williams, "Good Morning Vietnam!!!!" )

The first good thing today is that ITS NOT MONDAY!!! Not that Monday was too terrible but Tuesday's are always better in the morning arent they??

Two days in a row IS an accomplishment when you are restarting!! Lately, I've been trying to make the "Get out of the Grocery store without going down the cookie, snack, icecream aisle challenge!!!" Its amazing what marketing will do !!!! Good Thing I know they are waiting for me!! Because they think they have figured out my "demographic" . HEE HEE-- Good thing I am in a state of change and can't be pinned down to any specific category!!!!

I am glad you enjoyed the Key Lime recipe. Which one did you try? I know someone I think would enjoy a Key Lime suprise- At least I could share and not be tempted to eat more than one!

I am going back to reread the thread and take a look at the other thread you suggested.

So, with tongue in cheek, my word gem of the day ( or at least of the hour ) is " A moving target is hard to hit"

Am I the last one who has come to the realization that belonging to a gym AND having excercise equipment at home is really a good thing ?? It wasn't until this morning I realized that the more variety, the more convenient, the MORE LIKELY I will use it.
Good thing !!

Good-morning!!! Can't do colors as even though it's 3:17 a.m., I have a really slow connection on here. Not sure what my problem is, but the GOOD thing is, it's making me sleepy, so ...

Insomnia IS a very positive thing sometimes because it allows one to enjoy the best part of an Arizona summer ... it's only cool in the dead of night!!!

Kaylets: I'm thinking this thread is dead except for me and thou ... I love talking to you, but I need to cut back on web time ... I was on the net 78 hours this month!!! I could earn a master's degree in that time or train for a marathon ... the site here also moves really slowly on my computer ... not sure why ... it takes a long time to open a thread and there's a delay in typing ... then it mysteriously gets better and I start posting away all over the board ... so I think I'll limit myself a bit to just the 21-day challenge ... if you're not into any of the other challenges maybe you'd like doing that ... it's really helping me focus EXCEPT that I'm starting over yet again ... but I'm finding it motivating at the moment.

I made the recipe you posted first ... the second one had yogurt and I'm not a huge yogurt fan, although I like it in smoothies and also eat it sometimes for my stomach (works wonders at keeping that in order). I haven't taken the leftover pies out of the freezer yet so we'll see if that worked.

I know how hard it is not to let that hand reach for what one doesn't want in the grocery cart (if that sentence doesn't make sense, it's now 3:33 a.m. ).

I'm trying to ban the dulce de leche and I go into the convenience store and literally reach out for the bottle, pick it up and put it back. I have to force myself to pick up a slimfast or lowfat milk instead. It's just a stupid habit, I tell myself, you don't really want that fatty unhealthy drink in your body, but of course I do. Why do they put a picture of a popular athlete on something so unhealthy and sell it to young people (such as me)! Did that popular baseball player (whom I shall not name but you can guess by looking at where I live) get to where he is in life by drinking copious bottles of creamy high-fat and caloric caramel? I doubt it. If this were not the POSITIVE thinking thread, I'd express my real annoyance at the crass marketing technique but ...

I agree about having a gym membership AND exercise equipment at home ... currently I have only the latter, but I have a room in my house dedicated to weights and a VCR for tapes plus an aerobic rider, which I don't use aerobically because it doesn't get my heart rate up ... but it's good for stretching, hanging on to and some resistance work on abs and knees.

Well, I really am toddling off to bed now ... KEEP LOOKING UP ... THERE ARE STARS OUT THERE!!!

Thank you, Crone and Kaylets, for posting here even while the rest of us languish in Lurking Land. I relate to your vow to cut back on Net time, Crone ... it's amazing how many minutes computers take from our days sometimes.

I have to stop having weeks like this past one. Really. I'm moving into the new house slowly but steadily -- have moved only a few items in because I'm painting and repairing a few things there while also making repairs to the old house, working full-time and part-time jobs, training for the next race, gearing up for a big fundraising session for the Leukemia Society .......

*big, deep breath* GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS! I'm busy, my life is full, I'm painting my new bedroom in a soft lilac, the cats are adjusted to the dogless new house and the dogs are adjusted to the catless old house, I have petunias on the porch, my lemon trees on the deck, and I love walking just before sunrise, when the scent of honeysuckle still claims the air.

I hope everyone feels rested!!

I hate moving! The only good thing about it is that (unless you pay someone to move you) it burns lots of calories the whole time you're packing , moving and unpacking.

Insommnia would put my plan in a tizzy. I cannot imagine being awake and out of points. I would have to use that equipment to
burn off the extra food.

My new job has a "daily thought of the day" . I thought today's was worth sharing

People divide themselves into four classes:

1) Those who never do what they’re told – always less
2) Those who will do what they’re told – never more
3) Those who will do things without being told
4) Those who inspire others and make them do things.

There seems to be some activity on my scale. The GOOD NEWS is that I think its dropped some. I didnt write down the first weigh in so I cant be certain. Heee, hee,. That'll teach me !!

Garden is starting to look good too. My husband is doing as much as I am out there so its something we can do together.

Ok, let me give this 21 day challenge a gander.

and by the way, I found an equation for water-- divide your weight in half and drink that many ounces.-- Any thoughts??

And Crone, I had similiar computer problems as well until I upgraded my system. It just got too old, adding more memory wastn all it needed. I hated to spend the money but am really glad I did.

I think I can, I think I can , I think I can-----

I like hills. When you've been doing one activity for a long time, your body gets used to it. So the walking pace that used to keep my heartrate up to 140 bpm now just makes my heart yawn in boredom. So if I really, really want weight loss and improvement in my physical conditioning, I've gotta add some hills to my routine. And maybe some biking. And maybe some jazzercise. And maybe learn to swim.

Well, I WANNA!

Fortunately, as far as walking goes, I get to choose the hills. I wonder to what extent I choose the hills in the rest of my life?

Default VE ...

... be careful coming DOWN the hills, though!!! That's one of the things that messed up my knees over time ... running up hills and jogging down. Burned calories like crazy though and was lots of fun.

I'm still having trouble walking long enough or fast enough to get my heart rate up, so a suggestion was made to me to get one of those trendy (somewhat trendy, anyway) pairs of poles to walk with. I've often walked with neat sticks that I carved or found on the desert, but only one at a time. I thought the two-pole people were nerds! But these lightweight springy metal adjustable poles with straps and everything are really neat. I only used them about 10 minutes indoors because it's so hot, but after dark, I may take them out again. I can really feel the difference in my comfort level leg and back wise, but feel I'm getting more exercise by having the poles. So I'm a nerd now, too.

VE ... maybe you should come on over to the 21-Day Challenge and walk the block with us!!! Since you're a racewalker, you'd probably zip right past us all!

P.S. I think you will continue to choose the hills! I know I plan to, though at the moment I'm a bit laid-up or laid-back or something! Always go for the gold, VE, and NEVER GIVE UP THE RACEWALKER INSIDE OF YOU!!!

Have fun, always.

Hee, hee-- your "nerd" remark reminded me of a Sunday afternoon a long while back when my husband and I were OT for quite a while. We were at the gym and it was almost empty- just a few of us. Somebody turned the radio station to "Classic Rock".
There we were on the treadmill the whole "Jimi Hendrix Hour".

As I said to my husband that day" If you had told me when I first heard Hendrix in the early 70's that this is how I'd be listening to him in 30 years, I'd have said you were a liar"
Never say never--

Well, I;m glad its Friday for sure !! This is a GOOD THING.

Yesterday was crazy from almost the moment I woke up. Realized I had lost my keys and there was no way I could not got to work!! ( Havent even been there 2 weeks!!) Finally, my husband drove the 1/2 hr back home to bring me his set and I got to work about 45 minutes late. You can imagine the tizzy I was in. So, 3 Pria bars disappeared really fast. I had to work thru lunch to make up being late and you guessed it, hit the vending machine. But only did 6 pts damage there and was too busy to do any more damage. Got back to healthier choices for supper and managed not to go over but I really walked the edge of the cliff on that one!!
GOOD NEWS is that's behind me!!

hee hee

We dug our garden by hand ( its about an 8x12 ft garden ) and then had to turn up the soil, dig out rocks, lay the humus and manure, and then got drenched by rain as we started to do the plants.....LOL....oh yeah.....and I had to lug loads of the dug up grass/dirt chunks over to a dump pile.....LOL....so I got my workout for sure......

My 10yr high school reunion is next Saturday and I am a bit disappointed that I didnt make my goal for it....but I am not going to beat myself up over it...I can only hope for a better summer this year.......!!!

Glad to hear all is well with everyone.......VE and Crone....as soon as it stops raining here......we shall have our lemonade and carving session....LOL

Take care all.....LisaL

Default Yo!

Well, my 21-Day Challenge is back to Day One again, but the GOOD NEWS is that the bad news isn't as bad as it could be. I've been charting my calories for the past few weeks on a spreadsheet and I'm definetely getting the control back that I need.

Mom: Glad to hear you're happy and busy. I'll bet you'll love your reunion whatever weight you're at!! Why not come over to the 21-Day Challenge and do the block walk thingie with us? Kaylets is there, too! There is lemonade and carving available!

Kaylets: I love Pria bars, but three wouldn't do it for me after such a day as you had! The GOOD NEWS about that is it's all over and in the past and you only splurged on 6 points ... that's pretty darn good! With me, it wouldn't have stopped with Pria either, it'd be dulce de leche and heaven knows what else before the day was over, busy or not. So you're to be congratulated.

I think I need to phase out my posting activities on this thread for now and just do the one challenge thread for awhile ... need to cut back on the time I'm on the net and get more stuff done in 3D.

How many smilies? :
